1. Nanoscience
First grade students in Mrs. Skoczylas’ class were introduced to
nanoscience and nanotechnology during the week of February 7
– February 11, 2011. Through a program sponsored by Notre
Dame extended Research Community (NDeRC) first graders,
under the direction of Notre Dame Graduate Fellows, were able
to explore the nano world. Throughout the week, students
participated in many hands-on activities and were able to view a
demonstration of the atomic force (AFM) and scanning electron
microscopes (SEM). The following pictures show students
simulating the measurements of the SEM and creating models
of their measurements.
