fossil fuels poses to the humankind.
Teacher asks whether they have found
          the video frightening
and why. Teacher asks whether the
situation is similar in their city/region

3 Teacher Introduces the topic and the aims 3

words to illustrate the class’s preferences

7 Teacher sums up the class and gives
         homework. Students should collaborate to
         prepare a presentation/animation
explaining what sources of energy (for
what purposes) will be used in their city in
         2020

8 Alternative homework: teacher creates a
wallwisher and gives Ss the address of it.
Then Ss search at home information on
Internet and write their conclusions and
         attachments(e.g. video clips) about energy
sources. During the next lesson a teacher
         presents results their research.
It would be interesting to share this
wallwisher with Ss from other countries.

           project in the future?
           -what classes will be taught?
-will it be a lot of ICT involved?
-what other features do you think it will
           have?

2 Some of the students are invited to read 10 min

Content of the lesson:
1. The organizing moment;
2. Brainstorming: “What is the environment ?”, “ What is the Park City ?”
    “Do you like to walk in the Park City ?”;
3. Presentation of the stimulus materials: watching the video materials;
4. Web conference “Park City”;
5. Workshops:
    • Students will determine the height of trees using the similarity of the triangles and will solve
some applicative mathematical problems about the environment.
    • Students will produce, working collaboratively, a short presentation, in English, of the
different kind of trees and animals(birds, squirrels, etc.). in the city parks, using Prezi or
PPT (Google Docs?).yes to share materials and to make the collaborative ppt .
    • Students produce a video about their favorite park and use GeoGebra to find and highlight
mathematics hidden in the parks (geometric shapes, symmetry, etc.)
    • Students can work together using Popplet maps to present in french different activities that
everybody could do in a park or what they would do to enter the park to their everyday
       lives.
    • Small dialogues in French, suggesting activities or events (celebrations, anniversaries) to
the Park city/to our Park City .
    • Narration in French of events from pupils in groups in The Park City.
    • Students could exchange photos of their best park city, compare them and find the
       similarities and differences.
    • They also compare the attitude of the people towards the environment, they search in the
internet to find the legislation on the environment concerning their country.

                                                                                                    12
eTwinning Learning Event Future School - School in 2020 Tiina Sarisalmi

   • They could exchange some little trees, typical of their country and plant them in the
schoolyard, as a sign of ecopartnership, or organise a reforestation excursion ,in order to
plant that trees. Unfortunately in Greece, during the summer, we have many fires and this
kind of movements are very useful!

Imagine “tree stories’’
(writer’s team)
draw them (painter’s team)
make a tree poem from that stories or not ( poet’s team)
put the music in this poem (composer’s team)
Finally, they could create a board game based on questions about the protection of the
environment and men’s attitude.

Students will try to find out, what the historical background of the park is and will describe trees
and a well known statue(s) - the park is named after our former president - describe his
life/historical meaning , they will name trees and animals in German/English/Spanish/Slovene
language and will add activities, that can be done in the park in different lang., plus what it means
to them and the community, they will measure the path through park and count trees, make photos
of trees (name it in diff. lang.), animals etc., measure the weather (temperature, humidity) +
interviewing pedestrians in a local language and analyze it/compare it with standard language, art -
they draw painting of the park, music - write a poem about park - theme song with melody,
geography - localize it in Slovenia, Europe, world + soil structure, sports - run through park and
measure time, plant trees/flowers, thinking about the future of the park, environment ...

6. Conclusions made through reflection, analysis and synthesis denoted by pupils on
the “Park City” wallwisher, monitored by teachers. Thematic quotes.

7. End of the educational lesson.

                                     tools
                               ● Language studies (foreign / mother tongue)

  Tools: ● Web browser
●Computer with Internet connection and screen projector
                                      device for presenter
                                   ● Other high tech devices they are used to handle (maybe
beyond teacher’s knowledge) ie. smart phones, games
                                      boxes, mp3/4, interactive whiteboard..

  Learning ● video,

  podcasts, ● iPods/iPads/tablets/cell phones/x-Box and other games, ...
  websites, photos,
  text books etc.)

Teaching ● Constructivist and collaboratives educational paradigms
  methods:
                               ● Here are some advices for the teacher:

                               1. Make sure your presentation is dynamic and engages the
                                   students.
                               2. Keep moving so students have something to watch.
                               3. Try not to get stuck in a corner.
                               4. Make eye contact with as many students as possible.
                               5. Use positive rather than negative language
                               6. Limit the amount you read from the board, screen or script.
                               7. Add your own words and character.
                                8. Encourage the students to contribute every idea they
                                   possibly can!
                               9. When you want your students to be fluent, flexible, original,
or to elaborate, work very hard to refrain from any evaluation
or judgment of ideas. You will be able to analyze the ideas
                                   later.

                                                                                                             2/5
                                                                                                       23

class characteristics) - a compromise between both
                             is also possible):

                                                     PATH # 1

Orientation Focus and Review 10 minutes
and Take time to introduce yourself and share a little
motivation about your background and your interest in the topic.
Next, poll the audience to find out what they already
know about this topic. Then, share a little about
what you will be covering – just enough to peak their
                             interest.

                             Objectives
                             Tell the audience:
                                 ● Today, we are going to be learning how to
find a proper tool for a specific activity and
                                     how to use it

   Activities 20 minutes
Teacher creates a class Google Site and adds
students as collaborators. Also, teacher gives a
                             reflexion theme:
( for exemple: Where/what for can we use the Google
                             Earth tool?)
In teams or individually, students create pages in the
                             class Site with a solution.

Homework / Arrange students into groups of 4-5 and hand 50 minutes
independent them to research about one tool. Each group will
work represent a different tool. This tool can be a real one
or imaginary. Ask each group to invent a name that
represents their tool and its utility.

Activities As a class, discuss each tool and ask the class to 30 minutes
                             determine whether:
                             1. Is it real?
                             2. Is it also applicable in classroom in 2020?
                             3. Offer a demonstration of its use in learning a
                             subject of their own choice.

Conclusion When you are analyzing, comparing, or evaluating 20 minutes
and reflection ideas, be certain to keep a clear, sharp focus on what
you’re trying to do or develop using those tools.

Orientation ● Focus and Review 10 minutes
and Before the class (previous homework), ask them to
motivation bring to the classroom every tech device they have
                             and usually handle inside/outside school
The main idea is to make them feel important and
experts on the subject - that will be the key word for
                             their performance

                            ● Objectives
From their personal practical knowledge, ss will be
led to develop, first, their more theoretical knowledge
(researching) and then to develop their imagination and
creativity. Doing this they also learn how to use those
tools in their Personal Learning (at school level and a
                        precious Long life Learning competence).

Activities Face-to-face group work (brainstorming): 40 minutes
ask them what do they know about the potentialities
of the devices their group members brought to the
classroom - for instance by starting collaboratively a
wiki article (one page for each tool, made by a group
of 2 or 3 ss) - they can draw a mind map and paste it
                             in the wiki.

Homework / Virtual group work (wiki writing): 2 hours
independent ask them to create a school activity where they can
work use one of the tools they´re working about in the (but ss should
wiki (try to have so many different tools as possible be given a
in the whole class) - it’d be better if you give them a deadline to do
planning template to organize their work. the homework -
                                                                                       let´s say a week)

Activities Final presentation of each group work to the whole 50 minutes
                             class                                                     (7-10 minutes
                                                                                       each group)

                                                                                                               4/5
                                                                                                         25

Conclusion ● Cross-curriculum writing: brief report on 50 minutes
and reflection - what they have learned
                             - how they expect that knowledge will be helpful for
                             their future
                             - what they’ve liked the most/the less/disliked in the
                             activities
                             - and if they think that their present classes can now
                             live in that future already.

(this may be preceded by a live assessment discussion in
the classroom - co and hetero- assessment and activity
                        evaluation as well)

                              ● Publishing in Internet - ss love to share and see
                                  their work online

                              ● Maybe they could present the work to a larger
group - all classes from their level/from the
                                  entire school

                                                                                                          5/5
                                                                                                    26
