2. Introduction:
•Beautiful and attractive design combines the nobility of the past and
the renewal of the present
•Very conveniently in the heart of the city
•This year celebrates the thirtieth general
•The theatre is one of the most exciting architectural achievements in
the country.
•The theatre has seven-sided steel and glass module that squats within
the Great Hall of the Manchester Royal Exchange making it the largest
theatre in the round in Britain.
•It has a “the Exchange Suite” where there are an absolute privacy for
working lunch, and important business meeting, or simply elegant
entertaining. 2
3. History:
•For this building we believe that over the long history with 3 stages:
•Phase I: the establishment phase.
Built in 1792 and was a station for the exchange of commerce and
cotton, and continued until 1940.
•Phase II: post-World War II.
Destroyed large parts of the building and restored again and became a
shelter for the sick and the poor.
In 1976 the theater was founded by a group of directors and actors.
•Phase III: after the IRA bomb.
In 1996 the theater suffered great damage because of the bomb and cost a
lot of money for re-construction of the new until 1998, where he opened by
Prince Edward.

4. Purposes:
•To inspire audiences by creating and presenting excellent work which
showcases wonderfully diverse approaches to storytelling in our unique
spaces.
•Developing different ways for artists, audiences, and participants to
engage with our work locally, nationally and internationally.
•Creative collaborations - opening up the work and our resources to fresh
perspectives and more diverse influences.
•New writing (development, production and touring) – building on our past
record for producing new work and developing writers.
•To create a vibrant, welcoming, accessible, building that links to the
surrounding external spaces, opening up this architecturally iconic theatre
at the heart of Manchester to play a more active role in the daily cultural
life of the city 4
5. Advice:
If you visit the Royal Exchange Theatre mustn’t miss their
exhibitions, but don´t forget check the opening times before you
go, bear in mind that there may be many people waiting to enter and
you should book with time
