Ca n esten Vaginal Cream is a azole
antifungal used to treat a fungal infection in
the vagina and vulval area (thrush).
Canesten Clotrimazole Vaginal Cream
contains 20 mg/g (2% w/w) of clotrimazole in
a vanishing cream base. It also contains
Benzyl Alcohol 1% w/w and purified water.

Active Ingredient
The active ingredient present in
Canesten Clotrimazole Cream
is Clotrimazole.
It is available in tubes of 30 grams.
Each gram contains Clotrimazole I.P.
20 mg., Benzyl Alcohol, water miscible
base q.s.

What is Thrush?
Candida albicans is a yeast fungus that can
multiply rapidly and cause damage to the
vagina when other micro-organisms aren't
present in a normal balance. Some
situations which can increase susceptibility
to thrush are Diabetes, Obesity, Illness,
Fatigue, Hormonal fluctuations (pregnancy,
menstrual cycle, oral contraceptive pill,
HRT), Prolonged use of antibiotics or
steroids.

Thrush Symptoms
Thrush may cause the following
symptoms: vaginal itching, vaginal
soreness, A white odourless
discharge from the vagina (like
cottage cheese) and Pain during
intercourse.

Recommended Dosage
A small amount of Canesten Vaginal Cream
should be applied thinly and evenly with
gentle rubbing to the affected and
surrounding skin areas twice daily, in the
morning and evening.

Missed Dose
If you forget an application, apply
some ointment as soon as you
remember.
However, if you remember when it is
almost time for your next dose, take
only your usual dose at that time.

Contraindications
Canesten Clotrimazole Vaginal Cream
is contraindicated in the following
cases:
➔Known hypersensitivity to Clotrimazole or
any inactive ingredients of this medication.
➔Some of the symptoms of an allergic
reaction may include swelling of the parts of
the body to which treatment has been
applied; rash, itching or hives on the skin.

Storage Instructions
Canesten Vaginal Cream may be
stored in a cool dry place (below 25°C).
Do not store in the bathroom or near a
sink. Do not freeze. Keep away from
children.

Side Effects of Clotrimazole Vaginal Cream
The most commonly reported side effects are
Blisters, discomfort/pain, oedema, irritation,
peeling/exfoliation, pruritis, rash,
stinging/burning, genital peeling, pruritis,
rash, oedema, discomfort, burning, irritation,
pelvic pain and abdominal pain.
Inform your doctor immediately if you
notice any of the following:
Slight stinging sensation, Skin reaction to
the cream (stinging, redness, blistering,
peeling, swelling, itching).
