   The distinction between form and content
   Importance of creativity
   Multi-faceted research in message design
   Digital workflow
   Teamwork
 While germinating self-efficacy towards production?
Self-Efficacy
 Social Cognitive Theory (Albert Bandura)
   As we succeed at tasks we gain a greater self-efficacy
   towards the task.
   Students often have strong self-efficacy towards
   entertainment and social media.
   Students often find little stimulation from the traditional
   research paper.
Scrapbook
 Mass Media and Society (introduction to media)

 Students work in teams of 3-4

 Final project presentations

 Choose a topic that has been extensively
 covered in traditional and social media

 Create a multimedia scrapbook using
  PowerPoint
  Video editing software
  Digital audio software
  Print media

  Web and blogging tools

 Follow a media event and the way different
 media technologies/channels present the event.

Results
 Students used
 PowerPoint, Prezi, iMovie, Garageband, animatio
 n software, PhotoShop, and other technologies
 to tell create their presentations.
 The real messages behind cartoons
 Women in Media
 Evolution of Batman
Take away
 Challenging students to create media can increase
 self-efficacy towards complex technical tasks.
 Give them the freedom to explore a topic they are
 interested in.
 Creating multimedia projects about topics covered in
 social media and traditional media allows them to
 better understand McLuhan’s notion that “The
 medium is the message.”
