So here's what you need to do, step-by-step:
Step 1: Open an account at Amazon.com, and login to your account (by clicking the "Your Account" link at the top right corner of the window).
Step 2: You need to setup your public profile now. At the very bottom of the "Your Account" page, there will be a section named "Personalization". Click on "Your Public Profile", then click the "Edit Your Profile" button on the upper right corner of the page.
Step 3: Add in your name, email and website URL (under "Web Page"). For your "Name", it is best to have something catchy - for example, if you have a baby gifts website, add "Best baby gifts online" or similar - this will work as a call to action when people see your comment. For the website URL, make sure you add in the "http://" prefix. Click on "Save Your Profile" on the top right corner of the page.
You are now ready to start getting traffic.
Step 4: First, find 5-10 products that are relevant in your niche, and most importantly - have at least 30-50 reviews. For more popular products, you might want to see 100+ reviews. This means that the product is popular and searched for, and that people open that product page a lot, and there are many people reading the reviews.
Step 5: Go to the reviews section and post your review.
Sneaky tip:
There's something sneaky you can do in order to get more eyeballs for your review (warning: this is not the 100% ethical way to review products). You will need to give a star rating for the product you will be reviewing - and you want to make your review stand out of the crowd. See which rating has the least reviews - for example, some products will have 125 * 5-star reviews and only a couple negative (1-2 stars) reviews. You want to add your review with a star rating that does not have the most reviews. For example:
For a product that has these reviews, you would want to add a 1-star rating, or a 2-star rating.
Another example:
For this product, you would get noticed by leaving a 4-star or a 5-star review.
Two things to keep in mind when working on this traffic source:
#1 - You need to really be careful and not overdo it. One review per day, or every other day, is what you can do. Do not be too aggressive, as this will not look natural.
#2 - One Amazon account per niche - because if you do reviews for health products with your gardening profile (and "name"), it will not look very good :-)
