Groups will be assigned a complaint from the Declaration of Independence and asked to create a protest poster supporting their assigned cause. The poster should include a direct quote of the complaint at the top, a drawing representing the complaint and slogan in the middle, and a restatement of the complaint in their own words at the bottom. Students are encouraged to be creative in their poster design and think outside the box to effectively convey their message.

2. Each group will be assigned one
complaint from the Declaration
of Independence. As a group,
discuss the complaint and come
up with a Protest Poster to help
support your cause.

3. Your poster should be set up like this:
Top of Poster
• Write the complaint found in the text. Please write this
one word-for-word. This means you are directly
quoting the complaint from the Declaration of
Independence.
Middle of Poster
• Draw a picture that represents your complaint.
• Write a slogan for that complaint (ie: “Don’t tread on
me”)
Bottom of Poster
• Restate the complaint in your own words.
