This document defines and provides examples of different types of sentences: simple sentences contain a subject and verb and express a complete thought, compound sentences contain two independent clauses joined by a coordinator, complex sentences have an independent clause joined by one or more dependent clauses, complex-compound sentences contain adjective clauses, declarative sentences make a statement, imperative sentences give a command, exclamatory sentences express strong feelings, and interrogative sentences ask questions.
