• Simplified Release Numbering
Scheme: [major].[minor] (e.g. 3.0)
• Code migration to GitHub
• First “Developers Virtual Summit”
• “dspace-replicate” Add-On (keep?)
– Easier backups/restores (incl.
DuraCloud)
1.8.x Releases
• Release Coordinator: Robin Taylor

3.1, 3.2, etc. and released as needed.

• 3.0 Release Team:
– Sands Fish (MIT) [Team Leader]
– Hardy Pottinger (U of Missouri)
– Kim Shepherd (U of Auckland)

Code Migration to GitHub
“GitHub is like Wikipedia for
programmers… except you’re
working with source code instead
of encyclopedia data”
(Chris Wanstrath, GitHub CEO)
Code Migration to GitHub
• What does that mean?
– Anyone can copy code, view old versions,
see what changed from Web
– Anyone can modify the code (in their acct)
& easily submit changes back
– Collaborative tools to allow anyone to
comment on any code change
• Development is more open / visible
• All developers can take an active role &
share innovations amongst themselves

Notas do Editor

  1. NOTE: This is just the “active” committers team. The 9 Emeritus Committers (most of which had 5+ years of service to DSpace) are not listed. Fun Facts: 4 committers added in the last year 45% of our Committers are newer (< 3 years) to the team. At the same time, 40% of our Committers have also been helping for 5+ years This shows great balance on our team!
  2. Configurable Reviewer Workflow will be discussed in DSUG Technical Strand #1 (Fri @ 9am): “ Tutorial on configuration and usage of DSpace Configurable Workflow” by Bram De Schouwer, Lieven Doogmans A use case for SWORDv2 will be talked about in DSUG Session #1 (Thurs @ 4pm): - “ SWORDv2 solution for Norwegian master's thesis submission portal” by Kristian Roberto Salcedo, Richard Jones Curation Tasks will be discussed in DSUG Managers Strand #2 (Fri @ 11am): - “ Curation Tasks for Repository Managers : Staying in the Light and have a Dark Side” by Yanan Zhao, Kim Shepherd, Yin Yin Latt, S. Leonie Hayes
  3. Major releases include new features and potentially architectural or database changes. There will always be a migration/upgrade path from the last major release to the next one. Minor release *just* include bug fixes. (NO new features or architectural/database changes)
  4. Anyone can help out / follow along with 3.0 release planning, etc. by joining the ‘dspace-release’ listserv.
  5. The @mire features will be discussed during this talk in DSUG Session#1 (Thurs, July 12 @ 4pm) - “Contributions for DSpace 3.0”
  6. “ DSpace 2.0” was a 2009 prototype that helped us to envision what DSpace could become. Some of its code has already been adopted into out-of-the-box DSpace, and other code has been essentially abandoned and is not used. “ DSpace with Fedora Inside” is still in the brainstorming stages. (NOTE: we may either want to write in a better explanation here, or refer back to whatever Jonathan says in his talk during the DuraSpace plenary)
