2. ABOUT QR CODES
QR (quick response) codes are two dimensional bar codes
that are preferable to the traditional bar codes you may be
used to seeing at the grocery store. QR codes can contain
more information (both vertically and horizontally), are quick to
scan, and can be printed in a smaller space.

15. WHAT TO LOOK FOR:
• Should be free
• Should not have to create an account or provide personal
information
• Should keep a history of scans
• Do you prefer to click “scan” or prefer it to scan
automatically?
• Will it put the link on the “clipboard” so that you can email
it or forward it?
• Will it put the date into your calendar? Put the contact
information into your phone? Dial the person’s phone?
17. TIPS & BEST
PRACTICES
• Link to mobile friendly web sites
• Use URL shortener
• Aim for simple codes (avoid too much text)
• Be aware of cost to students if linking to
online resources (make students & others
aware)
• Consider those who don’t have a smart phone
or other device – have a text option if needed
• Size – the bigger the easier to read. Try to
scan it yourself.
• What is the purpose? Should save time or be
useful in some way – not just a cool thing.
