2. Molly lived in a black and white world. Her biggest thrill was to run down sidewalks and play in mud puddles. Sadly, Molly did not have many friends to play with since she had pale hair and pale eyes. Everyone else has dark hair and dark eyes.
3. Molly ran down the sidewalk as fast as she could to lunch. “Stop running this instant Molly!” Mrs. Yelnan yelled at her.
4. Molly stopped and waited for the teacher to catch up. “Really, Molly, what an odd girl you are. No more running after that butterfly. Now, you best get back in line.” Molly nodded her head and went back to the empty spot in front of the curly haired girl.
5. The curly-haired girl behind her mocked, ”You are so hideous, Molly, with your pale eyes and pale hair.” Molly didn’t say anything in return to the nasty comment.
6. The bell rang. “Yippee, school is out!” she cheered when she opened the door. Molly ran home excitedly, so she could see her mother.
7. Molly told her mom and dad all about her day and asked if she could go out and play. “Yes, but only for a little while,” her mom said while making dinner.
8. The neighbor kids were jumping rope, so Molly made her way over to ask if she could jump too. “May I jump with you?” Molly asked as politely as she could. “No you can’t. You are so hideous, Molly, with your pale eyes and pale hair. You are not welcome here,” the boy skipping rope replied.
10. The next day at school, Mrs. Yelnan announced that there was a new student from Blauren, a neighboring town, joining the class. The boy boldly stood in front of the class.
11. His pale eyes and pale hair made everyone grimace and look at Molly, but they all yelled, “Welcome!” Brrrrrrng! Everyone jumped out of their seats for recess.
12. Molly walked outside and found the boy sitting alone on the swings. Nobody had even invited him to play in the sandbox with all of the other boys. Molly timidly offered the boy a piece of candy that she was going to devour later after school.
13. The boy looked up at her. " My name is Milly. What is yours?” he asked. Molly told Milly his name while he ate the piece of candy. “Would you like to play on the slide with me?” Molly asked. “Sure!” Milly jumped up excitedly and made for the slide.
14. From then on Molly and Milly were the best of friends and had many wacky adventures. They made friends with new people along the way, but that is another story.
