What did you learn?
Well I have learnt to give better briefings and debriefings to
others now. I'm more courageous in clarifying doubts by asking
questions instead of just keeping quiet and smoke my way through
any activities. Learnt that everyone in the committee plays an
important role in the camp. If anyone of us are unable to
complete the task, the rest of the committee have to do extra
work to finish things up.

What is the most memorable event in LTC?
The most memorable event in the LTC is the late night meetings. To be honest, I
couldn't really process anything that goes in my head during the meetings on the
first night because I was too tired but seeing everyone being as tired as I am, I feel
that I had no excuse and decided wake up and pay attention to details which are
important to the next day's activities.
And the final session where you can see how the campers have changed from those
shy/quiet dunmanites to those outspoken and enthusiastic leaders! Seeing the
process of how they are slowly cultivated to become leaders is what makes this
camp most memorable to me.

Benjamin Goh Sea Act

What did you learn?
I learnt how to properly tie the fishermen's knot, clove/half hitch
and square lash. I also learnt how to brief and present more
effectively as well as how to better manage time/stress in the face
of a very stressful time. To top it all up, I learnt how to lower a
flag :D

For me, the most memorable event would have to be during the second rotation of
sea activity (with Rubino and Amenthyst). Their enthusiasm, friendly jokes, and the
eventual success of the raft left a deep impression on me, probably because I was
reminded of my LTC Group (Leo) the year before.

I would like to take this chance to thank my department AICs
Shu Ya and Mandel for being there for Sea Act even when our
IC Seng Cheong went MIA. The two of them have really given
us the motivation, the inspiration and to a certain extent, the
relevant scolding to ensure that everyone in Sea Act gives
nothing but their absolute best. Lastly, would like to thank my
teachers for giving me this opportunity to continue serving the
school in this very special and meaningful way.

Raj GA

What did you learn?
Hanging the Instructor lanyard down my neck for the 9th
time, not only do I look forward to imparting what I have learnt
thus far and sharing what Dunman's servant leadership culture is
all about, I love coming back for the people - both new and old.
As much as I wanted to work at a more intimate level as a
FA, being back as GA I/C did allow me to hone the skills of the
Sec 3 leaders and new main comm members at a higher order of
creativity, preparatory work, organizational skills, ability to be
forward-looking and seeing the bigger picture.

I‟d best remember LTC2012‟s Campfire Night amongst many others I‟ve
attended, mainly due to the variety in programme and involvement of group
volunteers and FAs (many thanks to the MCs!). But especially because of the way
the night ended with the Mass Dance and everyone got together in a great circle to
slow-groove to the final emo song of the night! Showed the true LTC spirit
consisting of the campers, subcomm, subcomm of LTC2011, the alumni and the
teachers.

Raj GA

Farhan and Jolene for contributing and willing to explore and
push boundaries of the many activities and plans we had during
the Proposal phase. Their charisma and hardworking nature
brought out the best of what GA had to offer. Very strong
main comm I was blessed with!
Though randomly assigned, I couldn't have asked for a better
subcomm than Yanru, Zul, Jialing, Preeta, Xin Yi! Full of
ideas, willing to learn, highly adaptive to changes and have
grown so much in being more in control and vocal about their
thoughts and actions. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH GUYS!

Farhan GA

What did you learn?
Throughout the camp I think I learnt to always look at the bigger
picture, and start making decisions on my own, that will benefit
the whole camp. Also, to not be afraid to change things or try
something new as I know now that change is sometimes for the
better :)

The most memorable has to be having the campers come up to me and thank me for
the little things, like belaying them, and saying how they enjoyed synergy or night
activity etc. It really made me feel satisfied with myself, GA dept, and LTC! I think
seeing that the campers appreciate what we do and to see how much they grow is
most memorable.

Farhan GA

I want to thank Raj for being such a great dept IC. Me and
Jolene learnt so much from him, it‟s unimaginable, really. I want
to thank the advisors (Shao Jie, Jiang Li, Yong Zheng, Senior
advisor mentor Wei xin HEHE) For their support and
encouragement, asking us to step up all the time. AND all the
instructors for helping out in all the GA events in camp. It was
successful cause all of us played our part, so thanks!

HAHAHA the only secret about the GA dept is that.......... WE ARE AWESOME. and that's the
truth ^^ HAHAHA

Jolene Koh GA

What did you learn?
I've learnt that confidence is very important in every part of life.
With confidence, we can make do with what we have; such that
problems encountered may even become things that help improve
the original idea. Skills like making decision on the spot and
reacting to problems impromptu are also being learnt during this
LTC journey.

The most memorable event in LTC would be the Night Activities planned by my
department! I can never forget how SiHui was being tortured by instructors JiangLi
and WeiXin right in front of my eyes. I remembered I even supported the idea of
letting them draw on SiHui's face. I feel so sorry for SiHui because at that point of
time I really don't have time to get anyone else to help her with her cat's makeup. So
yes, thanks SiHui for the "sacrifices" made. This rare funny experience with the
older instructors was indeed memorable!

Jolene Koh GA

I would like to thank everyone that is involved in this LTC. It

What did you learn?
I learnt that when there is a time limit we should just use the time
given, no more no less. I also learnt that 2 1/2 hours of sleep is
NOT enough for anybody! I learnt to take initiative when people
ask for volunteers.

The most memorable thing for me is morning when we were punished by Jiang Li.

I want to thank Raj, Jolene and Farhan cause they were always
there for me and that they guided me and my dept! We wouldn't
be such a successful dept without them! XD

What did you learn?
I've learnt to treasure my sleep.
I've learnt how to act busy HAHAH.
I've learnt to be more helpful, to volunteer yourself, to serve
others.

Everything that happened throughout the whole course of LTC was worth
remembering, a memory. Everything was memorable: spending time with my
department, with the campers, campfire night, the punishments we had to endure.
EVERYTHING.

What did you learn?
I learn a lot of things during LTC..Like learn to be a better
leader, belaying during High elements, learn time management and
more..Not only that, it increases my confidence more when
speaking and more...My discipline and responsibility gets more and
higher..Improve a lot of things but there are still room for
improvement.

The most memorable for me was the High elements because it was my first time
belaying and its tiring but persevere makes me better .Also, the pumpings because it
was during a learning point for us..all our mistakes were put into punishments to
make us learnt something.

I would like to say thank you to My IC Nurhuda because she
teach us how to do things, how to handle them like the
equipments ,the proposals and others..Without her, I would not
succeed because she told us everything that we need to
know, sometimes she would keep quiet to give us hint that
maybe we did something wrong or not.

What did you learn?
Hmmm, I think I learnt to eat faster during LTC because when we
have washing point duty, we have to eat like mad and get to the
washing point before the campers do. If we don't they'll destroy
the washing point and we'll get punished because we were not
there to supervise them.

The most memorable event during LTC was belaying the campers! Yay! I really
enjoyed belaying them because
1) it's really fun
2) I like encouraging people
3) I get to feel this sense of pride for the campers when they overcome their fear(s)
and/or complete the activity

Actually, wee siang told me he had a crush on the life
science teacher-in-charge when he was sec 1 that‟s why
he decided to join the life science club and wash the

What did you learn?
I learnt to be a more responsible, vocal and spontaneous person.
From the start, I have always wanted to be a more vocal person.
Although I know that this is only the beginning, I thought that I
am more vocal now..... in some ways.

The campfire night was the most memorable event in LTC for me. I am sure there
can never be a cooler campfire than this. I‟m NOT joking. What's more fun than
having everyone dancing together as one?!?!?!

firstly, I wanna thank my department(orienteering) for being so
supportive and encouraging. Without them, I don't think I can
find the Christin that I am now.;) But I am very thankful for
the whole LTC committees. They have made this LTC 2012 a
SUCCESSFUL one :D YAY.

What did you learn?
I learn that 我要走的路还长得很，要学习的还很多. I must keep my
heart and mind open to be able to learn even more. 虽然我很讨厌从
他嘴里所说出的每一句话，可是我必须同意他说的这一点 "Only by being
humble, will we be able to receive even more and become an even
better person." 我必须找回从前的毅力和努力！

I met the funniest cat in the world that doesn't know how to behave like a proper
cat. Rubino really can do anything just for points, 他们居然睁着双眼说瞎话, they told
how pretty and sexy I was, even though I know they didn't mean it but I was happy
for that one second?

I would like to thank Instructor Hector who had help me
greatly during Orienteering at the Unexpected Mission. We
were behind time and the groups had to be gathered at the
playground. To be honest, I find it chaotic, and in my mind it
was chaotic. However, Hector got things organised like almost
immediately. Really grateful for his help from the very start till
the very end of Orienteering. The way he reacted to the
situation really hit me that there is still a long way for me to go!

All male basket ballers 都一样欠打 (Antony and Xie Chao)! The girls would agree with me. They
are NO WHERE near being a gentleman. And, they have skin THICKER THAN elephant. (:

What did you learn?
I learnt that team effort is really important. Try to plan a whole
camp like LTC alone :O all of the instructors really made an
effort to put aside our differences, learn and work together and I
truly believe that is what makes a good leader. GO LTC!!! And I
am so proud I know how to tie knots and stuff like that, feel so
much more OUTDOORY (i know that isn't a legit real word).
hmm.. sleep was already important to me from the start.

HAHAHA The fire drill. All the campers were like O.O in the middle of the night.
But I felt that the fire drill did carry a lot of importance and that the incident had
actually discipline the campers a lot more and sped up their sense of urgency. YAY.
GO FIRE DRILL!!! and we did do pumpings after the drill. Where can you experience
fire drills? ONLY IN LTC... and during a fire... of course.

HAHAHAH of course Gim Ann (no I do not have a crush on
him) for being super supportive and nice and treating us to
lychee ice cream. Antony and Meiyee for always taking care of
us and being our supporting pillar too! Tian for always being the
mature one (BUT I KNOW YOU GOT A CHILDISH SIDE TO
YOU), Kang for always helping us compile WORK and being the

What did you learn?
For me, I think that I must always remember to think carefully
first before I say anything. There are times like during
debriefing, giving out instructions when I suddenly forget what I
wanted to say or maybe I just stutter on my words and talk
rubbish. HA. Another skill I learnt is that I know how to belay! It
is so cool, though I'm still not sure with the figure-of-8 rethread.

I think that the most memorable event is the high elements componet. Seeing the
Sec 2 leaders overcoming their phobia , failure and giving their all really makes me
feel touched and proud of them. Additonally, it also makes me feel honoured as we
played a small part in improving their character development!

What did you learn?
I learnt so much things it's impossible to fit them all right here.
But I'll try to pick a few. I benefited so much having gone through
this camp and learning all the things that I wouldn't have learnt
myself. For instance, the different knots for sea activity and high
elements. I might not have realised it before, but now I know
something that my siblings and most of my friends don't
muahahah. That's something to be proud of. Apart from
that, through all the adversity, I managed to flower and become a
better leader; a better person. It's all the things that I pick up
everyday in those four days from everyone around me, even the
secondary 2 leaders, that made me grow this much. woots.

Personally, the most memorable event for me is the entire 4 days of camp from Day 0
all the way to Day 3. I learnt the most during those four days. Not only have I
flourished as a leader, I've also flourished as a person. Not only that, it was those
four days that brought the special bond that I have with the fellow sub-comms
closer. This entire LTC, from our first meeting up till the last day of the camp, is, I
must say, an experience like no other.

I really want to take this opportunity to thank all the main
comms from all the departments. I'm really grateful to all of you
for all the assistance you have given me throughout the four
days of camp. To my main comms, I really am gratified to the
three of you for guiding me through this LTC journey. All of
you were the ones who taught me the most and I really look up
to you. If it wasn't for you, I, beyond any doubt, wouldn't have
flowered as a leader.

I don't think we actually have a dirty secret. But well. I do know
something that the rest don't. My department might not be as
27 bonded as the rest of the department is- given the nature of QM-
pushups but it doesn't matter. What is most important is we remained
together up till the finale of LTC. We might not be the most
appreciated department, but from behind, we get to smell the
success of LTC. And be pleased with ourselves. And well, although
the bond we hold is not that strong, a bond is still a bond.

What did you learn?
I learn To be responsible for my words and action. With greater
roles also come greater responsibilities! I learn how to protect my
own shoes tooooo!

Climbing the rock wall without using much strength!! Have to thank instructor shao
jie for this! OHOHOH, AND my face being coloured by Wei Xin and Jiang Li into an
avatar cat! Too torturous to forget!!! Special thanks to GA For the blue ears!!

Sim Tian Tian Ori

What did you learn?
I have learnt to work with different types of people like people
who are stricter, very serious in the work they are doing, people
who do not put as much effort as others, etc. Sometimes, it may
be hard working with them, instead of complaining, we should
find ways to work with them to get the things done. I think this is
a very useful learning point as I am sure next time in the
workforce I will meet some people whom I do not like and because
of that I cannot just stop doing the work required right?

To me, it is definitely the 100 pumpings, 50 crunches, 50 sets of jumping jacks and
running around all in one shot. It's the first and last time I hope I will be doing such
physical 'exercise'.

What did you learn?
Only by working together as a Team will success come. And the
beauty of LTC is that we're one big family :)
oh and initiative is very important, and so is sense of urgency.

What did you learn?
Before we can do the BIG thing we must make sure all the little
small things are done well. Because all the small details are those
which make up the BIG thing in the end.
Also, learnt to walk with eyes at the back... so not to fall over and
onto someone.>,<

hahha!!
1. seeing my cute children could not paddle in the water and drifted away with their
kayak! I can never forget their facial expression sio!
2. Being the angry old uncle the whole night and seeing all the campers got
frightened when I said HI!
3. Department meeting with all the HUNGRY ghost even though the month has yet
to come.
4. How the campers ignored me when they just want to take a solo picture with
instructor MANDEL!!!

What did you learn?
I learnt that a leader is most needed not during the good time but
during the tough time , that is , when the morale of the group is
low and when everyone thinks the group is not going to progress
.besides , I learnt many new interesting advanced unique
whatever-you-call-it knots for the building of rafts .

A memorable (but stupid event) would be 'destroying„ Mei yee's cards twice because
I didn't know how to use the laminating machine properly... LOL then Jiang Li
almost turned her into hulk.

Yong Xin Ee QM

What did you learn?
I have learnt about the backstage work that QM does and the
importance of every department in LTC. I have also learnt that it
is important to be flexible and to be able to adapt to anything
that comes your way. Lastly, to not complain about things we are
not happy about but are still necessary to keep the camp running
smoothly.

Seeing Abagail get pulled up the rockwall by Hector. ;P

What did you learn?
I learnt how to belay and it's very fun!!!! I really want to do it
again!!! hmmm... I also learnt that we need to be responsible for
our own things. I also learnt that we have to set the good
examples for our junior to follow. these are the main things I have
learnt but there are many more others.

When I read this question, everything about LTC just come flowing through my
mind. I think that LTC itself is the most memorable 'event'. Maybe, I could say that
I flew while belaying...or maybe Jiang Li's punishment...and the apologising to
campers on the last day for being irresponsible.

I think my department will agree on this secret...hehe...in our
department, the word 'test tube' is any form of word. It can be
something to express your anger or tease others...anything. You
can use it in any ways.

I think that firstly, I would like to thank my own department. they are the ones closest to me and
we are bonded throughout the whole camp. however I will extend my thanks to everyone else
including the campers as without them, there will be no LTC.

What did you learn?
I learnt to be a better leader, belay people and to appreciate my
house toilet.

My most memorable event is during out morning 'PT' on the second day because it
was a bad experience with my friends that we persevered through together.

What did you learn?
I learn that we must all work together to have a successful camp.
No one is a lone ranger and no one stands out as an individual.
The success of the camp requires the effort and dedication of
everyone and I believe without our main coms and all the
organisers or planners, we would not give the campers an
enjoyable and unforgettable experience.

My most memorable event in LTC is belaying people during the high elements
activity. Being the first time belaying, I practically had a good go of how it is done
and I had alot of fun doing it even though it might be tiring. The satisfaction it
brings after I safely belay the person up and down the rope course or rock wall
makes it a really enjoyable experience.

Erm I just basically want to thank everyone involved in this LTC
camp and gave me a wonderful experience of how LTC is like
and with this being my first time attending the camp, it was
really an eye opener for me. Thanks for basically letting me
experience one of the most wonderful chapters of myself.

I learn that sleep is important, staying fit more important! Must

What did you learn?
How to build a raft (that actually works)
Usage of Fisherman's knot - we usually teach it just to join two
ropes, but another usage would be to tie up the barrels with the
pipes.

The 2nd session of Sea Activities - its the session where I learned the most
regarding raft building.

Leow Gim Ann Ori

What did you learn?
I truly learnt the meaning of, "action speaks louder than words".
That one's actions will truly inspire the young leaders-to-
be, instead of one blabbering away with lots of words. A leader
just have to prove it with actions. "Do it, Prove it, Don't just say
it." There's no such thing as a NATO Leader.

It was definitely during ResiLANE, although it was super overran, I really felt the
camp spirit and the energy oozing out from every trainee. The euphoria induced
from the excitement from the campers really made me felt that this game was worth
it - it was worth the time and effort and brain-cells killed to plan for it.

Firstly, it would be my two lovely asst, Antony and Meiyee, who
had been supporting me. Next, will be my subbies, for tolerating
my "perfectionism" and killing much of their brain cells. And of
course people who came to help orienteering in preparing our
equipments, Xinee and Abigail. And lastly, RAJ! For the moral
support u kept giving me with regards to my proposal, a really
BIG thank you for that. :D

I guess my whole department will just suan one person, but I shall not add on to it. I want to say
that someone in my department is scared of "BANG BANG BANG!" :D

What did you learn?
I've learnt to be a better leader and to step up more. I've also
learnt to be more outspoken so that I can interact more with the
campers. But the most important thing I've learnt is self-
sacrifice, to put other's needs before yours.

What did you learn?
I learnt how tiring belaying is, especially if you belay 6 people
continuously. I also learnt that SLEEP, can make MIRACLES. 7
hours of sleep = A FULL DAY OF HYPERNESS AND
RANDOMNESS :D

CAMPFIRE NIGHT. Best part, even though there was some hiccups here and
there, I had fun emcee-ing as I could see that the campfire night brought smiles to

What did you learn?
I've learnt that in many things that we do, in teams, groups and
stuff, it's not just about getting your own part done and just
stand by the side, waiting for the others to finish. Building the
team spirit and helping them out with their tasks not only gets
everything done faster, but it also shows that we care about
them. :)

I had the least amount of sleep I ever had on the first night.. AND the 'PT' we had
with instructor Jiang li.. it was.. really memorable.. :X

What did you learn?
To me, the rewards I gained from participating in LTC year after
year (this is the 6th year I‟m back) is always much much more than
the hard work I put in. The satisfaction of the campers
succeeding in their activities; the sub coms evolving from campers
the year before to full fletched young leaders who are able to
lead their juniors; to main coms learning how to manage a
team, solving unique problems each year; to myself, serving as FA
to Elements IC, to Camp Chief and finally Advisor, I‟ve learnt so
much that defines who I am today.

The most memorable event has to be each time the campers get punished
(pushups, run) It is always during times of suffering where people learn the most
(pardon me for sounding sadistic as I didn‟t do pushups for a long time already, but I
think it is true. HAHAHAHA) During those times you will see instructors fussing
over the campers, checking if anyone is hurt or unwell, then proceed to take care of
them. To me, that show of concern is more than enough to warm the ham (cockles)
of my heart.

I would like to thank Wei Xin, for being there all the way;
Jean, for NOT being there all the way (just joking, I know you
still care even though you are faraway enjoying life in
Japan, having lots of fun shopping, looking at pretty Japanese

Within the Advisors we like to walk around acting busy (in my
case, taking photos) while the camp is running, simply because
we don‟t have much to do. We like to laugh at small little things

HAHA! Good one!) Then during times when we are needed – not
often, like debriefing and whatnot, speak from a high vantage
point because well, really – we are the only ones who can. We

What did you learn?
I learnt how to be a better leader and how to debrief + speak in
front of crowds! I also learnt how to tie knots!! Before being in
this camp, I've never actually known how to build a raft. OH, and
I definitely learnt that sleep is very important! NOT
FORGETTING SUNBLOCK TOO :D (i'm super tanned right now)

I can't choose!! Definitely our 'Morning PT' where we had to do 100 pumpings, 50
sets of 8 Jumping Jacks, 50 crunches and running from huts to huts! The Sub Comm
performance was really memorable too :) Oh & The search for Li ann's file + 2 other
lanyard nametags. (Our punishment was the 'morning PT' we did)

who have been helping us all along since we don't have an IC :(

What did you learn?
I learnt that people can bond through punishments..After the
punishment we got, all the sub comms became very bonded!

What did you learn?
I learn to tie knots during sea act. Also, I learn how to brief
campers and debrief too. I also learn that I can sleep for 3 hours
and still do lots of physical activities . My eyes are like =_= on the
second day....

My most unforgettable event is the pumpings. Even though at the start, many of us
were grumbling but eventually everyone kind of got used to it.I also cannot forget
the toilets there as I encountered millipedes and somehow scared me since I did not
see them until they were so near to me.Also, I lose a lot of sleep since we slept late
at 2 plus during the first day. Before I knew it , it was time to wake up so I was very
tired on the second day but I still tried to keep my energy level high for the campers
:)

I want to thank all FB main coms. They help us out a lot and
give us chances to do things like briefing and debriefing since
we have never done it before. They also help us out anything no
matter big or small. :) Also, not forgetting all the main coms
, sub coms, camp chief and deputy camp chief :) Without all of
you, LTC would not be such a successful camp !

What did you learn?
I have learnt that a leader is never complete. There is always
something to learn, something to improve and something to
experience. I have learnt that failure is a better teacher than
success. The pain will make you remember and cherish the
moments you have suffered together with everyone. There is
always a chance to learn specific skills in your own time, but
learning in a “safe-to-fail” environment is very hard to come by.

Definitely LTC 2003 at Labrador (old bird), I will never forget the chilling feeling
around my body when I encountered the weird behaving uncle, the uncomfortably
long corridor and the suspiciously-clean storage room. That year was definitely
unforgiving for those who were there. Be it the fire-drill activity or the “faceless”
murals. There are still other memorable events in LTC, but this is ranked topmost!

Well I have no crush or favourite instructor, but I do want to
thank the following for this long LTC journey. Firstly, I would
like to thank Mr Bernard R Bagtha for making this LTC journey
possible and being such a wonderful servant leader.
Secondly, my two very good friends (Gim Ann and Jiang Li) who
have been with me in my leadership journey. Lastly, the various
instructors that have shown me there is always something new
to learn and improve on, and my leadership journey will still go
on when I stepped down from LTC.

What did you learn?
I learnt a lot, from leadership skills, being patient with people to
time management and stuff. It's helpful as we will encounter all

I learnt to take initiative rather than following others. Often, the
first step is the hardest to step out but once you had your first

What did you learn?
I Learn skills such as debriefing, belaying. I learn values such as
having initiative and responsibility as a leader. I realise that we
tend to react to unexpected situation at certain point of time.
An example would be probably if someone couldn't make it for an
activity the other sub- committee would have to think of
solution, which is why I felt that reaction is something I learned
and its very useful.

The most Memorable event would be Day 1. It was great to see the campers so
bonded in their groups and looking at them so delighted of attempting the activities
planned by the various department.

I would like to thank Orienteering department, and other
departments. Basically, I would just say every single person who
is in the planning committee for LTC 2012 ! For putting the
effort to come up with the fun activities which build up the
camp.

I think that Christin is cute, but I have never told her or admit that she was even she asked

What did you learn?
LTC is a journey that is filled with many life lessons (I am sure
many of you will agree). From 2003, where I was a trainee, where I
have to jump down from my bunk bed during fire drill to being an
Advisor where I understand the rationale and planning behind the
entire LTC, this journey brings not only experiences but also
GREAT friendship! KUDOs to all fellow LTC-er.. You guys made
LTC 2012 a splendid camp!
