2. How would you define bullying?
We asked them this question first so we could see
what they thought bullying was and if they would
be able to give us a definition. When asked this
question a couple of people said that bullying was
when someone is repeatedly mean to someone
maybe because of their race or sexuality. They
also said that it could be cyber-bullying which is on
the internet. From this research I know that we
need to include a definition on bullying and the
different types of bullying into our anti-bullying
advertisement.
3. Have you ever been bullied or know of
anyone that has?
We wanted to asked this question to see if we
could get any real stories that we could base our
advertisement on. However all of the students had
never been bullied and didn’t know anyone that
had been bullied. We would like to find some trues
stories as this would really help us with our
production and it would be more realistic and help
us to plan the advert.
4. What are the reasons that you believe
most people get bullied for?
We asked this question to help us build a storyline
for our production. The focus group said that most
people get bullied for their race, sexuality, fashion
choices, image, financial reasons, social group,
family or intelligence. This information will help us
to build a storyline and we can include some of the
reasons in our production.
5. Where would you go if you were being
bullied both inside and outside of school?
The students said that inside of school they could go
to the hub, talk to friends and tell teachers. They said
that outside of the school they could go to the police,
family, friends and help lines such as childline. They
also said that there is the school email address which
is there so that students can report any bullying in the
school. This is good as it shows that students know
that there is somewhere for them to go if they are
being bullied. Also as none of them mentioned
beatbullying we can advertise their website which is
another place that they can turn to.
6. Do you think that bullying affects selfimage?
We asked this question to see what their opinion
on self-image was and if bullying and self-image
link together. All students agreed that bullying
affect self image as they said it can affect your
confidence if you are being put down. Also they
said you start to believe the nasty things that
people say about you which affect your self-image.
The information we found out showed that we
were correct in saying that bullying affects selfimage. We can use this in our production as we
can show the affects that bullying has on people
and how it makes the victim feel.
7. Have you heard of the beatbullying
organisation?
Has anyone ever used their website?
We wanted to find out if any of the students had heard of the
organisation we are focusing on, beatbullying. No one said that they
had heard of the beatbullying organisation but the students did say that
they should advertise it more on social networking sites such as
Facebook and twitter. They said that the school should have posters for
it and maybe even do assemblies on the organisation. This will help our
production because it means there is the gap in the market of an antibullying campaign for beatbullying. Also we could take their opinions
into account by showing our campaign on social networking sites to get
more attention for our target audience which is young adults and
teenagers.
When we asked them if they had ever used their website they said they
had not but wouldn’t as they wouldn’t want to speak to someone that
they did not know or trust. This means that in our production we could
show how they can trust beatbullying as should use their website and
mentoring chat line if they need help.
8. Have you seen any anti-bullying adverts?
Did anything stand out?
We wanted to see if they had seen any anti-bullying
advertisements before so that we could see what
they liked and dislikes about them. Unfortunately the
students and teachers in the room said that they had
never seen any anti-bullying advertisements. They
said that they should show more adverts so that
people know what do if they are bullied. Again this
means that there is a gap in the market for an antibullying advert. We should also include where
people can go for help in our advertisments
especially because the beatbullying website is
somewhere that they can go for help.
9. What would you like to see included in a
anti-bullying advert?
We wanted to get some ideas from our target audience for our
production we so we could include some of the things that they
would want to see in a anti-bullying advert. The students said
that they would like to see a demonstration of what bullying is.
They would want it to have information on where they should go
if they need help. They also came up with some good ideas of
where it could be show for example they said on TV, at the
cinema and on social networking sites. Also a couple of the
students said that if they saw a good enough anti-bullying advert
they would consider sharing it on social networking sites.
Someone else said that we should show the bystanders that
might not see themselves as bullies but may be recording the
bullying or encouraging it which is just as bad. This question
gave us ideas on what we could include in our anti-bulling
advert, we need to take their opinions into consideration as they
are our target audience and the people that we are aiming.
