Design training has taught me to be informed, rational and analytical in the decisions
I take to start and complete any project. Working on varied projects throughout my
training has also made me spontaneous in my work and to think unconventionally
for solving any problem. I am hardworking, patient and am able to survive and
breakthrough conventions. Sincerity does not prevent me from managing a little humor
  here and there.

I look forward to travelling as it gives me an opportunity to experience differences and
diversity in places and make myself familiar with colours and texture which form an
integral part of my memory of the experience. These journeys and experiences serve
as my idea banks for future references. I greatly enjoy dancing and reading books
  when I am not moving.

I would like to call myself a designer rather than a product designer as my training
has given me the confidence and the tools to use design thinking to solve varied design
  problems.

                      ‹›
Background Silver Filigree is a traditional craft of Karimnagar, Andhra Pradesh. It is when beaten silver foil is drawn into
fine wires, which are then fashioned together to make an object. Traditionally, its applications have been in jewelry and
other decorative and utility items for royal households. It is now a dying craft and our challenge was to contemporize it.
About the workshop It was a workshop where I was introduced to a craft based industry setting and to the complete
cycle of ideation, conceptualizing, prototyping and finally manufacturing of a product.

Concept The products I have come up with are centered on combining filigree with other surfaces so as to accentuate
the beauty and aesthetic of it. Also, my intention was to bring in this craft at the level of an everyday interaction of it with
the user so as to bridge the gap between the craft and the modern market.

Brief This was a self initiated diploma project brief executed under the guidance of Neelam Chibber of Industree.
The project is about developing a range of products which embody the spirit and essence of Kabir’s poetry, the mystic
poet of India This embodiment of the spirit of Kabir’s poetry is concealed in the message, material, texture, form, color
and detailing of the product. In totality the product communicates the aura of the couplet/doha it corresponds to.
Concept This concept is based on building and breaking. One goes through a playful process of opening and shutting
the zips. This process is repetitive and sort of meditative. Hence the doha corresponding to this talks about form and
                              formlessness.

                      ‹›
Concept When I tried to find Kabir, he directed me towards myself. This search of the space within me began with
meditating and watching what goes on in my head, the thoughts which create noise and somehow distract oneself from
the search. During this process, I let my extremely talkative head just be its own nature. And I would pen down anything
that it thought. But sometimes it would be completely silent and I would feel a sense of light and openness inside me.
I would suddenly feel absolutely transparent like the air and the wind could pass through me. This idea of experiencing
the beautiful space within and the fact that beauty is in the inside and not really on the outside is what I want to convey
                              through the laptop case.

Concept Natural grass is seasonal and delicate like most other things in life. One needs to protect it from any sort of
harm. The doha associated with this laptop case speaks of the same transcience and temporarity in life.

Concept Fragility and the temporality of life and things is just a matter of time. To give this a fun twist, I thought of
eggs and how they are the epitome of fragility. One can instantly relate fragility to an egg shell. This laptop case is
made of papier mache which has the look of an egg tray in casing the laptop as though eggs are kept inside, the laptop
being as fragile and temporary as an egg.

Background This table was developed during a classroom project, conducted by Ariana Pradal and Frederic Dedelley.
Brief The brief given to us was to design as well as prototype a table for two people, in a limited time frame of 2 days.
The table could be pertaining to any circumstance.
Concept This is for a romantic candle lit dinner for two on a beach. It is light-weight, portable and eco-friendly(re-

Brief This was a self initiated brief.
Concept Resources on our earth are finite and one needs to use it carefully and intelligently. Just the way this tap
switches on and off, the water and electricity resources will soon deplete and disappear (will ‘switch off’), and the earth
will soon run out due to our thoughtless consumption. This action of turning the tap to switch on and off the light is a
metaphor for this impermanence and the limitedness of resources, thus conveying the finiteness in its availability.

Brief The phrase given to us was ‘tea-coffee for one’. The focus was on making a product related to tea/coffee with its
                              components mass produceable and standardized.
Concept Tea is traditionally grown in various parts of the world, each region having a different flavor . These changeable
handles in the cup represent the region from which the tea originates. Therefore translating the flavor into something

done with GI wire so one could refine the curves and bends.
Concept A hanger specifically for hanging stoles. This improves accessibility of the stole as opposed to normal hangers
where it is difficult to access any stole due to overlapping.

Background This project centers around the concept of ‘jugaad’, literally meaning to solve a problem keeping the lack
of resources in mind as a major consideration. Hence every component and material that has been used to make this
products is, either a waste or natural. This philosophy has a strong undertone of concepts like waste management, up
                              cycling and sustainability.
Concept 1 The first concept is called Swajal Sejal which is intended for a typical urban apartment living lifestyle where
people do not have space to grow vegetables and have no time to water them.

Concept 2 is for public spaces. It is based on the principle of a weighing balance. A pulley system has been used for
hanging the whole assembly and to balance the containers in such a way that the water container is always at a higher
level than the soil container. Therefore maintaining a constant flow of water from one container to another.

Brief A metal frame stool woven with bhabar. Should be a low seating and organic shape.
Concept This is a stool inspired by the shape of the sitting position of the body. This product is designed as a low
seating stool, the base of which can be used as a shelf to keep some books and magazines. The metal profile makes up
its basic structure and then it is woven using bhabar grass ropes.

Brief The brief was to diversify the range of products made of textile waste. It was also essential for the product idea
to be simple in construction that made use of basic stitching skills. Since that was the only skill that SEWA (NGO) SHG
                              group of women possessed.
Concept To cut any shape and size of waste material into 1”X1” squares, stitch a sheet by joining them. This sheet
becomes the raw material to work with. This lamp is one variation of a lifestyle product I came up with.

Brief To make a product completely out of one material. The material I was given was rubber.
Concept The properties of rubber such as, its ability to float and become cushion like when filled with air, its ability to
stretch and regain form. This is made completely out of waste rubber tyres comes through as a comfortable sofa to sleep

Brief To develop a fun and quirky product range for Happily Unmarried.
Concept These beer glasses are inspired by a beer belly which one develops due to excessive beer drinking. This has
become the latest trend and the glasses are a fun comment on that phenomena.

Brief To propose concepts for ‘The Dot’, a mobile cultural space(vehicle). It had to be adaptible to various sites, col-
lapsible and extensible to be used as a performance, exhibit or workshop space, for a mixed user group
Concept 1 The Bamboo Grove is a grove on wheels which works on the principle of ‘growing one’s own space’ using
bamboo. The number and arrangement of bamboo is highly flexible and customizable. Not only does bamboo form the
structure of the space but also the interactive elements in it. For instance, bamboo has a brilliant sonorous property
which allows one to make musical instruments within the space and have concerts and jamming sessions with people
interacting and making music in public. This could also be a mobile bamboo workshop for children where they could for
instance be learning about making toys or musical instruments or furniture with bamboo.

Concept 2 ‘DIY Taash’ This mobile cultural space is based on the concept of one man putting together a space. It is
basically a pack of large strong planks which have the flexibility of various permutations and combinations due to a
                              common joint.

                              This arrangement has various functions:
                              - Backdrop for any performances.
                              - The various angles, permutations and combinations one can achieve through these units can be useful for cordoning
off spaces enabiling one to conduct different activities simultaneously.
                              - The different verticals and horizontals panels of the structure gives the user various interesting spaces to explore.
                              - The panels could also be re-cyclable- sun board which is discarded in very good condition after being used on
billboards. Honey-comb corrugated panels laminated with flex can also be used.
                              - These could also provide great spaces for public art and advertisements.
                              - Its openness of adapting to any space or site is of great advantage.

Background This concept was generated as a part of a workshop with the Freitag brothers, where we developed a
product and constructed a business model around it.
Concept It is a cable track laid on the wall with removable plug-ins (such as photo frames, shelves etc.). These once
inserted in the track, can be shifted and moved along it to suit the decor or need. The arrangement of the tracks can
be customized making a passive wall, interactive. The track can also be juxtaposed on a wallpaper in a way that it
corresponds to the image on it.

                              Brief Self initiated brief.
Concept When it comes to throwing waste, people don’t think twice (including me). Cardboard packaging boxes or
plastic bags, or empty bottles or containers or even scrap paper they never manage to find an appropriate use for these
things. I saw this as an opportunity and began my project called ‘Give it to me’. It proposed to offer a service which
takes waste (raw material) from the client, and is turned into attractive and functional products which is then either
sold back to the client or is sold in a retail outlet.

It’s organic and free flowing shape is inspired by the wave form of water. The advantage of a clay soap dish is that it pre-
vents the soap from dissolving in stagnant water. Also the form of it allows the water to drain away.

Brief To study products of a brand, their visual language and to develop forms that would fit into the product range.
Concept I developed various forms for locks for Pascal Bardel Designs. Products communicated a smooth, organic yet
mechanical look. I have tried to bring in the same in these products.

“It is the habit of the mind to be fearful, to cling to its boundaries and definitions. To lose them would be to lose one’s
identity. Naturally we are terrified of that. But long before we get to that point, we’re scared of losing our jobs, our
lovers, our favorite shirts. It is normal to be fearful and clinging. The dissolving of boundaries, however it may happen, is
automatically the dissolving of fear. Nirgun is nirbhay.” - Singing Emptiness by Linda Hess.

  • 1. about me resumé work click on the above options to enter spontaneous dough tanushri wahi product design
  • 2. home about me resumé work Tanushri Wahi (+91) 981 816 3106 tanushriwahi@gmail.com Design training has taught me to be informed, rational and analytical in the decisions I take to start and complete any project. Working on varied projects throughout my training has also made me spontaneous in my work and to think unconventionally for solving any problem. I am hardworking, patient and am able to survive and breakthrough conventions. Sincerity does not prevent me from managing a little humor here and there. I look forward to travelling as it gives me an opportunity to experience differences and diversity in places and make myself familiar with colours and texture which form an integral part of my memory of the experience. These journeys and experiences serve as my idea banks for future references. I greatly enjoy dancing and reading books when I am not moving. I would like to call myself a designer rather than a product designer as my training has given me the confidence and the tools to use design thinking to solve varied design problems.

  • 6. home about me resumé work products silver filigree project bamboo floor lamp laptop cases umbrella table drop of light cups hangers self watering systems bhabar ki stool recycled textile lamp rubber sofa beer belly glasses ideas + concepts form + material exploration illustration photography ‹› Background Silver Filigree is a traditional craft of Karimnagar, Andhra Pradesh. It is when beaten silver foil is drawn into fine wires, which are then fashioned together to make an object. Traditionally, its applications have been in jewelry and other decorative and utility items for royal households. It is now a dying craft and our challenge was to contemporize it. About the workshop It was a workshop where I was introduced to a craft based industry setting and to the complete cycle of ideation, conceptualizing, prototyping and finally manufacturing of a product.
  • 7. home about me resumé work products silver filigree project bamboo floor lamp laptop cases umbrella table drop of light cups hangers self watering systems bhabar ki stool recycled textile lamp rubber sofa beer belly glasses ideas + concepts form + material exploration illustration photography ‹› Concept The products I have come up with are centered on combining filigree with other surfaces so as to accentuate the beauty and aesthetic of it. Also, my intention was to bring in this craft at the level of an everyday interaction of it with the user so as to bridge the gap between the craft and the modern market.

  • 11. home about me resumé work products silver filigree project bamboo floor lamp laptop cases umbrella table drop of light cups hangers self watering systems bhabar ki stool recycled textile lamp rubber sofa beer belly glasses ideas + concepts form + material exploration illustration photography ‹› Brief This was a self initiated diploma project brief executed under the guidance of Neelam Chibber of Industree. The project is about developing a range of products which embody the spirit and essence of Kabir’s poetry, the mystic poet of India This embodiment of the spirit of Kabir’s poetry is concealed in the message, material, texture, form, color and detailing of the product. In totality the product communicates the aura of the couplet/doha it corresponds to. Concept This concept is based on building and breaking. One goes through a playful process of opening and shutting the zips. This process is repetitive and sort of meditative. Hence the doha corresponding to this talks about form and formlessness.
  • 12. home about me resumé work products silver filigree project bamboo floor lamp laptop cases umbrella table drop of light cups hangers self watering systems bhabar ki stool recycled textile lamp rubber sofa beer belly glasses ideas + concepts form + material exploration illustration photography ‹› Concept When I tried to find Kabir, he directed me towards myself. This search of the space within me began with meditating and watching what goes on in my head, the thoughts which create noise and somehow distract oneself from the search. During this process, I let my extremely talkative head just be its own nature. And I would pen down anything that it thought. But sometimes it would be completely silent and I would feel a sense of light and openness inside me. I would suddenly feel absolutely transparent like the air and the wind could pass through me. This idea of experiencing the beautiful space within and the fact that beauty is in the inside and not really on the outside is what I want to convey through the laptop case.
  • 13. home about me resumé work products silver filigree project bamboo floor lamp laptop cases umbrella table drop of light cups hangers self watering systems bhabar ki stool recycled textile lamp rubber sofa beer belly glasses ideas + concepts form + material exploration illustration photography ‹› Concept Natural grass is seasonal and delicate like most other things in life. One needs to protect it from any sort of harm. The doha associated with this laptop case speaks of the same transcience and temporarity in life.
  • 14. home about me resumé work products silver filigree project bamboo floor lamp laptop cases umbrella table drop of light cups hangers self watering systems bhabar ki stool recycled textile lamp rubber sofa beer belly glasses ideas + concepts form + material exploration illustration photography ‹› Concept Fragility and the temporality of life and things is just a matter of time. To give this a fun twist, I thought of eggs and how they are the epitome of fragility. One can instantly relate fragility to an egg shell. This laptop case is made of papier mache which has the look of an egg tray in casing the laptop as though eggs are kept inside, the laptop being as fragile and temporary as an egg.
  • 15. home about me resumé work products silver filigree project bamboo floor lamp laptop cases umbrella table drop of light cups hangers self watering systems bhabar ki stool recycled textile lamp rubber sofa beer belly glasses ideas + concepts form + material exploration illustration photography ‹› Background This table was developed during a classroom project, conducted by Ariana Pradal and Frederic Dedelley. Brief The brief given to us was to design as well as prototype a table for two people, in a limited time frame of 2 days. The table could be pertaining to any circumstance. Concept This is for a romantic candle lit dinner for two on a beach. It is light-weight, portable and eco-friendly(re- used discarded flex banners).

  • 17. home about me resumé work products silver filigree project bamboo floor lamp laptop cases umbrella table drop of light cups hangers self watering systems bhabar ki stool recycled textile lamp rubber sofa beer belly glasses ideas + concepts form + material exploration illustration photography A rough installation for a wall mounted lamp. ‹› Brief This was a self initiated brief. Concept Resources on our earth are finite and one needs to use it carefully and intelligently. Just the way this tap switches on and off, the water and electricity resources will soon deplete and disappear (will ‘switch off’), and the earth will soon run out due to our thoughtless consumption. This action of turning the tap to switch on and off the light is a metaphor for this impermanence and the limitedness of resources, thus conveying the finiteness in its availability.

  • 24. home about me resumé work products silver filigree project bamboo floor lamp laptop cases umbrella table drop of light cups hangers self watering systems bhabar ki stool recycled textile lamp rubber sofa beer belly glasses ideas + concepts form + material exploration illustration photography ‹› Background This project centers around the concept of ‘jugaad’, literally meaning to solve a problem keeping the lack of resources in mind as a major consideration. Hence every component and material that has been used to make this products is, either a waste or natural. This philosophy has a strong undertone of concepts like waste management, up cycling and sustainability. Concept 1 The first concept is called Swajal Sejal which is intended for a typical urban apartment living lifestyle where people do not have space to grow vegetables and have no time to water them.
  • 25. home about me resumé work products silver filigree project bamboo floor lamp laptop cases umbrella table drop of light cups hangers self watering systems bhabar ki stool recycled textile lamp rubber sofa beer belly glasses ideas + concepts form + material exploration illustration photography ‹› Concept 2 is for public spaces. It is based on the principle of a weighing balance. A pulley system has been used for hanging the whole assembly and to balance the containers in such a way that the water container is always at a higher level than the soil container. Therefore maintaining a constant flow of water from one container to another. The complete details of its functioning are on you tube http://in.youtube.com/watch?v=adFGGwlLM

It was also essential for the product idea to be simple in construction that made use of basic stitching skills. Since that was the only skill that SEWA (NGO) SHG group of women possessed. Concept To cut any shape and size of waste material into 1”X1” squares, stitch a sheet by joining them. This sheet becomes the raw material to work with. This lamp is one variation of a lifestyle product I came up with.

  • 32. home about me resumé work products ideas + concepts porous city able cable give it to me! form + material exploration illustration photography ‹› Brief To propose concepts for ‘The Dot’, a mobile cultural space(vehicle). It had to be adaptible to various sites, col- lapsible and extensible to be used as a performance, exhibit or workshop space, for a mixed user group Concept 1 The Bamboo Grove is a grove on wheels which works on the principle of ‘growing one’s own space’ using bamboo. The number and arrangement of bamboo is highly flexible and customizable. Not only does bamboo form the structure of the space but also the interactive elements in it. For instance, bamboo has a brilliant sonorous property which allows one to make musical instruments within the space and have concerts and jamming sessions with people interacting and making music in public. This could also be a mobile bamboo workshop for children where they could for instance be learning about making toys or musical instruments or furniture with bamboo.
  • 33. home about me resumé work products ideas + concepts porous city able cable give it to me! form + material exploration illustration photography ‹› Concept 2 ‘DIY Taash’ This mobile cultural space is based on the concept of one man putting together a space.
