1. National Anthem and Traditional
Song from Ligoniel Primary School
and St .Vincent de Paul Primary

2. A National Anthem is a song that represents a country.
The National Anthem for the United Kingdom and Northern
Ireland is, “God Save the Queen”.
It is a very old anthem, dating from 1745.
3. It is sung when the Queen is attending an event and also on
major sporting events, for example during the Olympic gold
medal ceremony and when a national sports team plays
another nation.
4. It is expected that people stand up to sing the National
Anthem as a mark of respect for the Queen.
There are 5 verses but we really only sing the first verse
5. God save our gracious Queen
Long live our noble Queen
God save the Queen
Send her victorious
Happy and glorious
Long to reign over us
God save the Queen
6. The 4 countries that make up the UK also have their own
anthems that can be used on official occasions when the
Queen is not there.
England has ‘Land of Hope and Glory’
Scotland has ‘Flower of Scotland’
And Wales has ‘Land of my Fathers’
8. The Londonderry Air also known as Danny Boy
Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling
From glen to glen, and down the mountain side.
The summer's gone, and all the roses are falling,
It's you, it's you must go and I must bide.
9. But come ye back when summer's in the
meadow,
Or when the valley's hushed and white with
snow,
It's I'll be here in sunshine or in shadow,
Oh, Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so!
10. But when ye come, and all the flowers are
dying,
If I am dead, as dead I well may be,
Ye'll come and find the place where I am lying,
And kneel and say an Avè there for me.
And I shall hear, though soft you tread above
me,
And all my grave will warmer, sweeter be,
For you will bend and tell me that you love me,
And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me!
11. And I shall hear, though soft you tread above
me,
And all my grave will warmer, sweeter be,
For you will bend and tell me that you love me,
For and I shall sleep in peace until you come to
me!
And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me!
