2. WHY DO WE NEED WATER?
• Water is probably the most important resource on the Earth.
• We need water to grow and stay alive. In fact, we can live only for a few
days without drinking water.
• We also need water to grow plants, care for animals, cook
food, bathe, brush our teeth, flush the toilet, and wash our clothes.
4. WHY DO WE NEED TO SAVE
WATER?
• Look at the picture of the Earth. Most of the Earth’s surface is covered in
water.

6. WHY DO WE NEED TO SAVE
WATER?
• Look at the picture of the Earth. Most of the Earth’s surface is covered in
water.
• You might think that there is plenty of water for everyone to use. But did you
know that most of the water on the Earth is ocean water?
• Ocean water is very salty. You can’t drink it, use it for growing
plants, cooking food, bathing, or washing clothes.
• The water we use for these things is called freshwater. It comes from rain or
snow that falls in rivers and lakes. It is also found in rocks beneath the ground.
9. WAYS TO CONSERVE WATER
Each person uses about 50 gallons of water a day. When people use
water, they often waste a lot. Very large amounts of water go down the drain
without being used. To conserve water, try some of these ideas:
• Turn off the tap while you are brushing your teeth or washing your face.
• Check your home and school for leaky faucets, and tell an adult if you find
one that drips.
• Take shorter showers, and don’t fill the tub all the way when you take a bath.
• Don’t leave the garden hose on all night when watering plants.
• Make sure the dishwasher and washing machine are full each time your
family does a load.
12. WATER IN OUR BODY
• Your body is estimated to be about 60 – 70 percent water.
• Blood is mostly water, and your muscles, lungs, and brain all contain a lot of
water.
• Your body needs water to regulate body temperature and to provide the
means for nutrients to travel to all your organs.
• Water also transports oxygen to your cells, removes waste, and protects your
joints and organs.
13. WATER, TAKEN IN MODERATION, CANNOT HURT
ANYBODY.
