 Complete the application as directed.
 The funder’s guidelines will tell you what to
    do.
 Deadlines, online or hard copy, answer all
        questions, documentation
 Not following the guidelines could cause you
    to not get funding!
 At the beginning of your proposal or on the
cover sheet, start with a two or three
    sentence summary of your proposal.
 This will help your reader follow your
    application.
 Here you will convince the funder that your
    issue is important.
 Clearly explain the problem/situation/need
leading to your desire for a grant.
 Describe the situation in factual and human
interest terms. Adding good data shows that
    your organization is an expert.
 Don’t assume the funder is an expert on the
issue. You could add an informative article to
    provide background information.
 Tell what your organization plans to do about
    the problem.
 What are your overall goals?
 Provide details.
 Describe the target audience and how you
    will involve them.
 What are you going to do? Describe the
    activities.
 What project planning has already taken
    place?
 Who is going to do the work? What are their
    credentials?
 When and where will the project take place?
 What impact will your project have? What
change will result from your project?
 Be specific. Give details.
 How will you know if your project has been
    successful?
 Who will gather the evaluation information
and how will it be used?
 How much will the project cost?
 Expenses may be personnel, direct project,
    and administrative/overhead.
 Provide details.
 Know the submission deadline.
 Submit on time or early.
 Follow the correct format.
