Networking School
   Going Back To Basics!
   Building long-term relationships instead of
          collecting BUSINESS CARDS.

     Presented by Sven Johnston

Networking Observations
For some strange reason, people donʼt START networking
until they need something.

For some strange reason, people STOP connecting after
they have found what they are looking for.

Short term thinking is the worst mistake that most people
make, because this will not be the last time that you are
looking for a job, business deal and the list continues. Keep
the RELATIONSHIP building process alive or you start from
scratch every time.

Most people judge connections by what they individually
bring to the table, but forget that most SUCCESS will
develop from the people they have in their network.
Why Network?
People are more likely to help people that....
   They KNOW!

   They LIKE!

That offer to HELP in return!

   That ASK for help!

That are not trying to SELL them something!
The famous Networking
      questions...
WHAT do you do!

WHAT is your background!

WHAT are your target companies, industries, size...!

WHAT connections could help you!

HOW can I help you!

If you can’t answer these questions
go back to the drawing board.
What are the Keys to
  Networking success
Be MEMORABLE.

Setup ONE ON ONE meetings.

Offer to make INTRODUCTIONS.

Learn about their NEEDS.

Offer helpful ADVISE and TIPS.

CONNECT people that you think should meet.

Keep in TOUCH with your KEY Connections.

Have a NETWORKING RESUME if your job hunting.
Linkedin Does and Don’ts
Do have a complete profile (100% complete).

Donʼt just connect with anyone. Quality over Quantity.

Do add a photo to your profile.

Donʼt use the standard Linkedin templates to send messages.

Do make it personal, when sending a connection request.

Donʼt us the standard public profile URL that is assigned.

Do join GROUPS and its OK to have the max. of 50.

Donʼt ignore incoming request from members.

Do use Linkedin as your Marketing tool (Status updates...)
General Tips
Set up a GOOGLE ALERT for your name.

Look at all forms of SOCIAL MEDIA and see if it is for you.

Built your own BRAND separate to your resume.

Treat your Linkedin PROFILE equal or higher than your resume.

Attend a specific Networking event at least THREE times.

Always have BUSINESS CARDS job or no job.

Take every INTERACTION as a possibility of making connections.

Be CREATIVE to ensure you set yourself apart from the rest.

Believe and live the mission of “PAYING IT FORWARD”
