- 9. Ambassadors: Where are they now? Year on year, approximately 50% of our Ambassadors have opted to stay in teaching and continue to address educational disadvantage this way. Others have moved to a variety of leading organisations, including: ARK, Accenture, AstraZenica, Barclays Capital, BT, Capital One Bank, Civil Service Fast Stream, DCSF, Deloitte, EMI, Freshfields, Google, GSK, Hammonds LLP, HSBC, IBM, Imperial College London, JP Morgan, NHS, Oliver Wyman Limited, Procter & Gamble, PWC, Teach for India and many more……

- Paid, hands on training The Teach First delivered module of the Leadership Development Programme focuses on these three areas: Each of these areas will feature a number of optional and compulsory elements and events, formal and informal, which fit around your demanding teaching schedule. They combine to offer training in the behaviours of effective leadership and the skills that you will need to ensure you are raising the achievement of your pupils and setting yourself up to be a leader in any sector. - Teach First places participants in one of five regions, as educational disadvantage is very much a national problem, which we can only help solve if we are working with all the schools that need us most. Can anyone name one of our regions? We work with challenging schools, which will generally meet one or more of the criteria here. We equip participants to impact in the classroom by tackling the 3 a’s = Achievement, aspirations and access
- We have over 80 Supporters that agree Teach First is having a real impact in the most challenging schools in the UK, in addition many look to Teach First for their leaders of the future. We are also able to offer a deferred entry programme with five leading organisations : Accenture; BarCap; CSFS; P+G and PWC who will defer their graduate programme offer for two years so you can Teach First.
- So what do our ambassadors do? All sorts of jobs and ventures, we are pleased to say we have lots of ambassadors on staff, a number who have started their own educational charities and many who are taking their experiences to businesses and organisations, some of which you will recognise as Teach First supporters, across the country and the world. Of the 50% that are still in schools, many are now in management positions. The most recent (07) cohort has 21% of those still in teaching in a management position: this increases by roughly 10% each year to the 05 cohort where 50% of those in schools are now in leadership positions. We are also pleased to see our first ambassador become a head teacher and this year we have our first ambassadors taking part in our Teach First Colleges initiative reaching even more pupils.
- This September we will be able to make the biggest impact in education in England than ever before and we do still have some positions available for our leadership development programme starting in summer 2010. These are for shortage subjects only (Maths, ICT, DT and Science). If you are not eligible to teach one of these subjects, we will open for 2011 on 1st June 2010.
- After the minimum requirements, selection for the Teach First programme is based on your ability to demonstrate relevant subject knowledge and the following competencies: Focus on ONE and guide to website / brochure / 1-2-1 session as appropriate.
