Our Stories - Online Oral History

Notas do Editor

  1. Helen Unlike a lot of people here, we decided to create our own website. How we came up with the project... brainstorming about hte need to document family history... students doing oral history in scjool... decided to focus on creating this site because we noticed there were't others out there. Here's a bit of background... will go into more depth in a few slides.
  2. Helen First- what is Oral History?
  3.     Helen   mention survey results: not as much experience as need for literacy
  4.   Amy   Web sites focused on particular topic Story Corps - more general, with personal stories Shoah Foundation - historical preservation of stories of holocaust survivors Witness to War - combat veterans
  5.   Amy   My Teacher My Hero - shares video notes praising teachers. Good site for enabling multimedia story telling Tangle - multimedia and online community   TENTATIVELY DELETE
  6.   Amy   OurStories  is a nonprofit educational    website that helps people create and share multimedia history projects. Our mission is to help people document history and stories from their families and communities. The site will offer resources for documenting stories and serve as an online community for these projects. As well as watch and learn from other projects.   How is Our Stories different? will be open to all, but utilized primarily in education. Primarily for educational use - (PICTURE OF SCHOOL KID AND TEACHER) But also open to anyone - But since it is open to anyone who would like to create and share a video history. Many adults realize that their time with their parents, grandparents and community members is fleeting and want to capture their experiences before they pass. Other people may use the site as research for a novel or period piece. History is not limited to the classroom. (ADULT INTERVIEWING - AMY PICTURE??) The focus will be on video oral histories, but projects on our site will include video, audio, photo slideshows and documents, allowing students to share any information they compile. combines - online storytelling, media literacy, video editing and production, - all the things we're learning about in the program

  8. Suna   Created a Usability Study plan that's a part of our final paper.  Just talk about survey, personas, and wireframe
  9. - Did a short survey of 40+ secondary school teachers technology & social studies asked a variety of questions, (Helen ref it earlier).    12 responses. One question was:   Do you see what is mssing? the answer "no"
  10. Suna One multiple-choice question yielded some interesting information on what teachers would find useful.  Majoriy would find having tutorials and general help with lesson plans and curriculum building to be helpful.
  11. Created three personas based upon our audience groups:   General User Persona Barbara is a middle-aged stay-at-home mom to two teenage children. Her father is a veteran of the Korean War, and has been opening up about his experiences since he had his stroke two years ago. Barbara would like to capture her father's stories before it is too late, but doesn't feel comfortable creating and editing video.   Student Persona Maya is a 10th grade student in a large suburban public school. She enjoys shooting silly cell phone videos with her friends and putting them on YouTube and Facebook. Maya has never interviewed someone or edited a video. She knows little about her family’s history, but is curious about her dad’s experience in the Vietnam War.    Teacher Persona "Cameron" is a social studies teacher in his 12th year of teaching. He is actively involved in school and has a good friend who recently completed a seminar in oral history curriculum. He wants to
  12. The survey and personas helped drive the sitemap. Broken down by audiene Not registered for the site   - kept in resources to help with SEO Progressive levels of availability
  13. Go over the home page in detail
  14. Suna Any user can see this.
  15. Say you've logged in as a student
  16. Pretty simple page of links, but shows some contextual content
