11. A Few Operations Process Definitions
Raw Material: Material procured from a Supplier (i.e. Vitamin
C powder) to be processed into a tablet or softgel
Tablet: Compacted and coated powder form of a vitamin or
mineral
Softgel: Liquid form of a vitamin or mineral inside a gelatin
based shell
Bulk: Container/tote of manufactured vitamins or minerals in
either tablet or softgel form
Components: Materials (i.e. Caps and bottles) used to
package Bulk to make Finished Goods
Finished Goods: Packaged material ready for distribution to
customers
11
12. Operations Process Overview
1. How do we know:
The number of bottles of Vitamin C tablets (Finished Good)
we need to manufacture for our customers?
The amount of Vitamin C powder (Raw) we need to procure
to make them?
3. What happens to the Vitamin C powder to become Vitamin C tablets
5. How do the bags of Vitamins C tablets become Finished Goods read
7. How do we distribute the Finished Goods to our customers?
12
17. Impact of Errors in E1…
Scenario in Manufacturing
● A Blending Operator is directed by the E1 system
to “Putaway” a tote of material onto a specific shelf
in the warehouse.
● The barcode for the location on the shelf is not
readily visible and the Operator accidentally scans
the wrong location into the E1 system after putting
away the material.
What different business groups are affected
by the error?
17
18. Downstream/Upstream Impacts
Impacts Downstream
● When the Compacting Operator is directed to “Pick” the tote
from the location shown in the E1 system the material will not
be there.
● The Compacting Operator will need to spend time looking for
the tote resulting in production downtime
● The schedule of all processes following (i.e. Coating and
Packaging) and overall Customer Service becomes affected
Impacts Upstream
● If left uncorrected Production Planning and Direct
Procurement will work from inaccurate inventory information
in the E1 system

Why we use Address Book We can’t show every single application and this class is taught to a wide variety of users Address Book is the equivalent of an online card file but also interfaces with other E1 systems and touches most other systems Simple place to learn the concepts of working with records Concepts learned in Address Book can be applied almost anywhere in the system Parts of the Screen Window will consist of task view to left and program to the right Application Area Open area to right of Navigation bar Applications will open here (i.e. Window Title) Header Enter won’t work for header selection criteria Is not case sensitive QBE Stands for Query By Example Powerful tool because it allows much more refined searches Type in exactly what you are looking for or use wildcards and operators Pharmavite’s QBE line is case sensitive. Toolbar and Exits We’ll go into more in depth later Status Bar: Appears at the bottom of the screen Shows status of process
Provides easy access to related information, other applications and online tools
Menu Bar Specific to Internet Explorer For the most part – DO NOT USE
Refresh Open Applications also Collapses al Menus Navigation Bar Will stay on Left hand side Includes: Open Applications “ New Window” button Fast Path Task Views Fast Path Command line to quickly launch menus and applications (basically used to bypass the tree) Favorites Handy place to keep commonly used (or hard to get to) tasks and folders Basically a way to create custom task view (menu) on the go Similar to creating bookmarks in Internet Explorer
Demonstrate the steps with an Example Sign into E1 TR environment with your assigned E1 Student ID Show where to change the Password Navigate to the Address Book Application screen Menu Path: Pharmavite Main Menu, Address Book, Daily Processing, Create AB Only Add the Application to E1 Favorites Click on the Find button Review the sections of the Application Screen Close the Application Sign out of E1 Concepts learned in Address Book can be applied almost anywhere in the system Students complete an Exercise The Job Aid will be in their Binder
Have students refer to their Exercise Hand-out
Changes to grids are captured as User Overrides Changes made will only be visible on that form (for that version of the application) and for that user New grid formats can be copied from one person to another (or many) by someone in IT
Two Ways to Create a New Format Click on Customize Tools, Grid Format Show where to select the format on the screen Explain what you’re about to do and why Make the most relevant Column into the first Column Reduce Column width to not waste space and have to scroll Change text to white bold against green Background to highlight the column Sort Row into Alphabetical order Remove blank columns that we don’t use…etc. to not waste space
