2. DESCRIPTION.
The Alhambra is an Andalusian palace city, it's located on a hill
above the town of Granada in the south of Spain. In winter
behind this building, you can see snow on the mountain tops
of the Sierra Nevada.
3. DESCRIPTION.
Outside the Alhambra it's very hot and there is a lot of noise.
One thing that surprised me was that the police doesn't drive
around the streets, instead they ride horses.
4. DESCRIPTION.
Inside there are a lot of beautiful rooms, the walls of the rooms
are decorated with many colors and the gardens with a lot of
trees and fountains.
5. DESCRIPTION.
The famous Court of Lions is at the centre of the palace. This
is an outside room full of sunlight . At the centre of the court,
there is a fountain with stone lions around it . Around the
sides of the court there are more than a hundred thin
columns of stone.
6. DESCRIPTION.
In the Hall of the Abencerrajes, when you look up you see a
great star with eight arms. Light comes through the
windows under the star. You think that the star is flying in
the sky.
7. HISTORY.
The Alhambra was built by the last Muslim kings of Spain. The
first Muslim arrived to Spain in AD 711. In less than ten
years, nearly all of Spain and some of France belonged to
them. Only a small part of north of Spain, Asturias, was still
Spanish
After five hundred years, only a small corner of the south-east
of Spain was still in Muslim hands.
8. HISTORY.
In AD 1237, Muhammad ibn al-Ahmar (Sultan Muhammad the
First) made Granada his capital city. His new building was a
fort. The Alhambra name means 'red fort'. Is was a good
place to put a fort, because up there on the hill you can see
If enemies are coming a long time before they arrive.
Muhammad ibn al-Ahmar lived here until his death in 1273.
But the kings who came after changed the Alhambra, it form a
fort into a palace, a beautiful home for kings.
9. The Sultans of the Alhambra stayed in Granada for less than
two hundred years. They left in AD 1492. But their palace on
the hill is still there. One of the greatest examples of Muslim
building, one of the greatest treasures Spain, and one of the
wonders of the world.
10. PERSONAL OPINION.
