- Kutch Mahila Vikas Sangathan supported by UNDP began its broadcast in 1999 over AIR Bhuj. Today they are very popular in the vast reaches of the Kutch, where literacy levels are low and poverty makes it difficult for villagers to take advantage of newspaper and television. Was started by AID-Bihar as a community participatory radio program on a weekly 30 mins on AIR daltonganj in 2001. this program is now bi-weekly that reached a population of over 7 million covering Palamau, Garwah and latehar districts in Jharkhand. The program is aired in the local dialect Maghi unlike AIR programs in chaste Hindi! Was started in 2000 to empower the agrarian community by producing locally relevant information through community based audio and internet technologies, supported by UNESCO. Apart from broadcasting, they also narrowcast through loudspeakers in 3 neighbouring villages. The most unusual CR started by village teenager named Raghav Mahto with a total investment of Rs. 50! It was hugely popular among the local community till it was shut down by Government touting it as illegal, unlicensed ‘pirate’ radio station. Apart from them Anna FM (campus radio) and Jamia FM are worth checking out.
