2. ne thing for certain in life is that things change
and that is certainly true on a grand scale at
Skanwear over the past years.
At the turn of 2011/12, the board determined that we
should expand and develop our key area of expertise
in the ARC flash & FR protective clothing & PPE
marketplace.
We challenged ourselves to excel, innovate and lead the
field in this developing and extremely important niche.
To design and manufacture our own garments of the
highest quality, comfort and protection. ‘Life saving’
garments that are climate compatible, so we could
provide clients with a global solution…as 2015 draws to
a close this challenge has been accomplished!
The Skanwear team are passionate about Arc flash
clothing and protection, and for 2016 we are developing
a programme of awareness, training and education,
which will establish us as an authority in the industry.
Many new faces have joined the team as this new
direction gathers pace: in logistics, product development,
international sales and marketing – throughout this
newsletter we will introduce some of them to you.
Our sampling facility has been relocated to a much larger
department which is more suitable for producing design
prototypes, samples and bespoke items.
The impressive developments created in this facility has
resulted in our specialist garments being selected by
some of the world’s largest organisations.
Exciting times ahead!

WELCOME
O
Skanwear are always moving forward and looking for
ways we can make it easier to engage with, care for
and support our customers. With this in mind, at the
commencement of the year we launched Operations 360
– a project to give a 360º view of our clients from enquiry
to payment. Skanwear have selected a new ERP system
from NetSuite – the world’s leading provider of cloud-
based business management software.
NetSuite helps companies manage core business processes
with a single, fully integrated system covering ERP/
financials, CRM, e-commerce, inventory and more.
This is still in development and will be going live in Q1
2016. More to follow on this exciting project, but for now
we’re concentrating on caring for you, serving you and
delivering to you. So long…

ABB CONTRACT WIN
Skanwear are pleased to announce
the recent success in securing more
business with ABB. The recent UK
and Ireland contract win further
increases the business Skanwear are
doing with ABB
across Europe.
Angus Long from
Skanwear said. “We have been working
closely with ABB in the UK and Ireland since
2013, developing unique solutions and trialling
our products to ensure that they withstand the
demands of ABB field service engineers.
Some new developments are a new range
of formal Arc Flash clothing to protect sales
service engineers whilst enabling them to look
professional. The range includes formal style
trousers and formal arc protective shirts with
contemporary cut away and boned collars”
Skanwear are on a global
journey with ABB, to
develop a range of clothing
that is consistent in style and

formerly announce the opening of its first office in Germany from
January 2016, to provide a more bespoke service to our current
German customers and develop new business opportunities.
ABB POLAND WIN
“We’re delighted with the news that we have been awarded the ABB
Poland contract for Arc & Flame Protective Clothing & PPE”
After over 12 months of trials and commercial negotiations Skanwear have succeeded in
pulling the business over the line. Working closely with ABB Poland Country Service and
EHS personnel, we have developed an Arc & Flame protective programme that will give their
engineers the required protection from the potential fatal effects of an electric arc flash.
Clothing suitable for the very cold weather conditions of a Polish winter, as well as with the
warmer summer temperatures.

GLOBAL
If global companies with electrical workers scattered around the world were to ‘cherry pick’ a handful of
their workers and bring them all together in one place, then the above image is probably what you would see.
Global energy companies want a consistent protective clothing & PPE solution for their mobile workforce so that
every engineer, anywhere in the world will:
• Look the same
• Be protected the same
• Can work in comfort
“Our mission is to allow mobile workers that work for global energy brands quick access to a
controlled collection of Arc & flame protective clothing & PPE that is suitable for their climate.
The same style and safety specification as their colleagues in other parts of the world.”
Workers around the world are
dying and getting
seriously injured –
What can you do about it?

11. ARC FLASH MYTHS ARC FLASH FACTS
STOP TAKE 5 7 SAFEST STEPS
• Arc Flash itself is a myth
• Can’t happen, its only 240v
• In 20, 25, 30 years I’ve never heard about it
let alone seen one…... Why change now?
• Flame resistant and arc proof clothing are the same
• Its OK the door’s closed
• There’s no arc flash hazard if there’s no exposed
energized conductors or circuit parts
1. Think through the task
Ask yourself: What am I here to do? What are the risks to
myself and others? What do I need to do to control the risks?
2. Observe the work area and surroundings
Ask yourself: How do I get to / from the point of work? Is the
equipment safe to work on? Do I need to prevent third party
access? Do I know what to do / where to go in an emergency?
3. Check what else is happening in the work area
Ask yourself: Who else is working nearby? What risk to my
safety do they present? Do I need to coordinate my work
activities with that of others?
4. Identify any hazards present
Ask yourself: Do I need to use hazardous substances?
Will I need to work at height? Are there slippery surfaces?
Can I secure the work area from public access? Are weather
conditions an issue? Ensure all hazards identified are recorded
on your Point of Work risk assessment document before work
commences.
5. Satisfy yourself that it is safe to proceed
Ask yourself: Have I controlled all known hazards as best I
can? Am I confident that my isolations are secure? Have I the
correct tools and equipment to do the job? Am I competent
and confident enough to undertake the work?
• The bright flash can result in temporary or
permanent blindness
• Will set fire to clothing and severely burn human skin
in fractions of a second at a significant distance from
the event
• Will liquefy or vaporize metal parts in the vicinity of
the event such as copper, aluminium conductors or
steel equipment parts.
• Can knock people over
• Can cause eardrums to rupture resulting in
temporary or permanent hearing loss.
• Molten metal can be sprayed by the blast throughout
the vicinity
• Personal injury, and possibly death
• Equipment damage
