The document discusses collaborative transport and matching unused transport capacity with delivery needs close by through a collaborative marketplace. It mentions two examples of this approach called BringBee and Kartoffeltaxi that allow people to offer unused space for deliveries and earn money by picking up deliveries on their way. The goal is to utilize unused capacity to provide more sustainable delivery options.

26.04.12
26.04.12 Today our infrastructure is at its limits. The number of traffic jams has increased by almost 50% in the last 10 years and the demand for deliveries and transport of goods is projected to increase by up to 70% in the next 30 years. At the same time a staggering 70% of all transport capacities remain unused today.
26.04.12 I founded a startup with the goal to match these 70% of unused transport capacities with delivery needs closeby. With our webbased collaborative marketplace you can easily share your space on your everyday routes. You earn money for delivering packages along your way and save the environment at the same time by utilizing your free space. Or get something picked up and delivered conveniently and sustainably! The marketplace verifies users, safely handles payments between users, provides support and a transport insurance for all transactions.
26.04.12 To turn this into reality we now have two running projects: The "potatoe taxi" is a climate neutral delivery chain for local bioproducts. You order your biofood directly from the farmer and it will be delivered to your doorstep by a commuter on his way to the city. This pilot was so successful last year, that we relaunched it for potatoe season this Fall. Also we are about to launch a second product, BringBee in cooperation with IKEA Switzerland. With BringBee you can save a shopping trip to the big retail clusters outside the city and simply get your shopping picked up and delivered by another customer living closeby. We estimate a CO2 savings potential of more than 3000t only in Switzerland and we are hoping to expand to other use cases nationally and internationally. It is a novel, decentralized approach which does not require upfront investment in logistics infrastructure and offers an innovative solution to the last mile problem. With our collaborative transport network we incentivize people financially, socially and ecologically to change their mobility patterns and do our part to make urban transport smarter and more efficient.
