Abstract   (n):  A painting, design etc which contains shapes or images that do not look like real things or people:  One night I had a dream, and this abstraction was the result of my strange dream.  Art  (n): The use of painting, drawing, sculpture etc to represent things or express ideas: Tomorrow will be open the art exhibition from 9am to 20pm.
Airbrush  (n): A piece of equipment that uses compressed air to send small drops of paint onto a picture or photograph:
Brush  (n): An object used for painting consisting of a handle with stiff fibres that are fixed to it: This yellow brush is my favourite one. Bricolage  (n): French word; best translation: do-it-yourself.  T he creative core of bricolage in an art context is an ability to make art out of any materials that come to hand: The artist created a bricolage with old stuff he found in his shed.
Canvas  (n): Cloth on which artists paint with oil paint: André Derain used to paint oil on canvas to show his style. Cubism  (n): A 20th century style of art, in which objects and people are represented by geometric shapes:  
Colour (n): An element of art that is produced when light,striking an object is reflected back to the eye: The artist used his favourite colour for this masterpice.
Dadaism (n): A post world war I cultural movement.This movement was a protest against the barbarism of the war. Depth (n): The apparent distance from front to back or near to far in an artwork. Techniques of perspective are used to create the illusion of depth in paintings:    The dark colour contrasting the green leaves, give us the impression of depth.   
Dimension (n): A term used to describe an object's extent in space:The dimension created in this landscape turns to be a pleasure to observe.
Expressionism  (n): A style in art, literature or music in which the artist emphasizes emotions and reactions to things rather than objects as they really appeared. Engraving  (n): A picture made by cutting a design into metal plate, put ink on it and pressing it onto a paper: I love working with engraving art, I always buy the different kits available.
Fauvism  (n): A style of painting that uses pure bright colours, which was developed in the early 20th century: By his fauvism style, André Derain was recognized around the world .  Form (n): The structure of a work of art rather than the ideas it expresses,events it describes: In this picture we can observe the head´s form of a dog publiciting Pepsi.  
Fresco (n): Method of painting water based pigments on freshly applied plaster, usually on wall surfaces. Fresco painting is ideal for making murals because it lends itself  to a monumental style, is durable and has a matte surface. The Toreador fresco , Knossos, Crete   
Gothic  (adj): Style of building and art which was common in europe between the 12th and 15th centuries: This cathedral of Nôtre Dame is one of the most influential masterpiece of gothic style. Graffiti  (n): Rude, humorous or political writing and pictures on the walls of buildings, trains, etc: A group of teenagers were caught by the police while they were painting a graffiti in the Council´s front wall.
Hue  (n): The common name of a colour: That colour is the particular hue that is seen when you mixture red and white. Hyper-Realism  (n): Term that appeared in the early 1970s to describe a resurgence of particularly high fidelity realism in sculpture and painting. Also called Super-Realism. Impressionism  (n): A style of painting used especially in france in the 19th century which uses colour instead of details of form to produce effects of light or feeling. Impasto  (n): A manner of painting where the paint is laid on thickly so texture stands out in relief: This impasto landscape is composed of several layers of thick paint. Japonisme  (n): French term that describes the craze for Japanese art and design that swept France and elsewhere after trade with Japan resumed in the 1850s.  "The Japanese Dress", By James McNeill Whistler  Juxtapose  (v): To put things together in order to compare them or to make somethings new  - juxtaposition (n)
Kinetic Art (n): The word kinetic means relating to motion. Kinetic art is art that depends on motion for its effects. Kitsch  (n): German word for "trash". The term started to be used in English in the 1920s´ to describe cheap, vulgar and sentimental forms of popular and commercial culture - kitsch (adj). "Kid Chocolate", By Valerio Adami
Logo  (n): A symbolic form that identifies organization, products, etc: Coca-Cola´s logo is known worldwide. Line  (n) : An element of design. a line may be defined as the visual path left by a moving point: The lines used in the painting help the viewers to convey the emotions involved in this painting.    
Magnum opus  (n): The greatest piece of work that an artist has produced: Leonardo Da Vinci´s magnum opus is La Gioconda. Medium (n): Any material used by an artist to produce a work of art. "La Gioconda", By Leonardo Da Vinci
N Narrative Art  (n): Narrative art is art that tells a story. Much of Western art has been narrative, depicting stories from religion, myth and legend, history and literature: Leonardo da Vinci´s The Last Supper is a masterpiece of Narrative Art. "The Last Supper", By Leonardo da Vinci
Oil paint  (n): A thick paint used by artists that contains oil: This picture was entirely painted using oils. Overlay: In animation art, a portion of a scene,generally a foreground element, painted on or applied to a cel and laid over the action to create the illusion of depth.
Palette  (n):  A board that an artist uses for mixing paints on: The painter bought a new palette. Pastel  (n): A stick of colour containing pigment and water: This picture was painted with pastels. Pastel  (adj): A pastel colour is pale and light: pastel blue.
Primary colours (n): Colours that cannot be created by mixing other colours, but that can be mixed to produce all the other colours:  I painted using only primary colours.   Pointillism (n): A style of art in which pictures are created using very small spots of colour:  My son uses pointillism at kindergarten.
Proportion (n): It is the relationship between objects with respect to size, number, etc.: The relationship in this drawing is not out of scale. Provenance (n): A record of previous ownership and previous locations for a work of art: The study of a work's provenance is important in establishing authenticity.
Q Queer Aesthetics  (n): Art of homosexual or lesbian imagery that is based around the issues that evolved out of the gender and identity politics of the 1980s.  "Winterblume", By Musk Ming
Representational  (adj): Art whose subject matter contains recognizable images from real life: Walking in the culture's house,  I found this representational art corresponding to Minguito. Repoussoir  (n):  Achieving perspective or spatial contrasts  by the use of illusionistic devices: Caravaggio had become famous for his  paintings of ordinary people or even  religious subjects in repoussoir compositions.
Rhythm  (n): The regular repetition   of particular forms or elements in a work of art. It suggests motion: The rhythm art exhibition was a great success. RGB  (n):    Stands for  R ed , G reen , B lue. In web design and design for computer monitors, colours are defined in terms of a combination of these three basic additive colours.
Sfumato  (n): A technique in which the transitions from light to dark are so gradual they are almost imperceptible: The Milkmaid by Johannes Vermeer van Delft inspired my love for the cooking .   . Space(n): It is an element of art that refers to distances or areas around ,between or within components of a piece: In the picture we can observe an effective use of space.
Staffage  (n): Human figures or animals added into a painting,especially in a landscape. Surrealism(n): A cultural movement in the 20th century  in which the artist connects unrelated images and objects in a strange way.
Symbolism  (n): The practice of representing things by an image,sign or symbol: The peace is symbolised by a dove. Synesthesia  (n): A feeling evoked in one sense when another sense is stimulated.
  Turpentine (n): A type of soil used for making paint more liquid or removing it from clothes, brushes etc. Tempera  (n): A method of painting in which the colour is mixed with a thick liquid such as egg. Texture (n): It is used to described the way  a three dimensional work feels when touched.
Ugly Realism  (n): A style of painting developed in the 1970s that highlighted the shallow and alienating brutality of the modern world. 
Value  (n): The degree of lightness or darkness of a hue.   Vorticism  (n): A style of painting that combines Cubist fragmentation of reality with hard-edged imagery derived from the machine and the urban environment, to create an expression of the dynamism of the modern world. Water-colour  (n): Paint that you mix with waterand use for painting pictures: In this picture we can appreciate the water-colour used py the painter.
X Xerography  (n):    Photographic process which uses an electrically charged metal plate. A powered pigment dusted over the plate is attracted to the charged areas, producing a visible image. Xylography  (n):    An early form of wood engraving, was first seen in China in the 1st century. It is the oldest known engraving technique .
Y Yellowing  (adj): A discoloration that can occur over time in oil paintings due to excessive use of linseed oil medium. Yellowing  (n): Applying any of the varnishes that are prone to yellow with age. Yellowing  (n): An accumulation of dirt embedded into the varnish.
Z Zinnober green (adj):  It is another name for chrome green.

Abstract  (n):  A painting, design etc which contains shapes or images that do not look like real things or people:  One night I had a dream, and this abstraction was the result of my strange dream.  Art  (n): The use of painting, drawing, sculpture etc to represent things or express ideas: Tomorrow will be open the art exhibition from 9am to 20pm.
  • 3. Airbrush (n): A piece of equipment that uses compressed air to send small drops of paint onto a picture or photograph:
  • 4. Brush (n): An object used for painting consisting of a handle with stiff fibres that are fixed to it: This yellow brush is my favourite one. Bricolage (n): French word; best translation: do-it-yourself.  T he creative core of bricolage in an art context is an ability to make art out of any materials that come to hand: The artist created a bricolage with old stuff he found in his shed.
  • 5. Canvas (n): Cloth on which artists paint with oil paint: André Derain used to paint oil on canvas to show his style. Cubism (n): A 20th century style of art, in which objects and people are represented by geometric shapes:  
  • 6. Colour (n): An element of art that is produced when light,striking an object is reflected back to the eye: The artist used his favourite colour for this masterpice.
  • 7. Dadaism (n): A post world war I cultural movement.This movement was a protest against the barbarism of the war. Depth (n): The apparent distance from front to back or near to far in an artwork. Techniques of perspective are used to create the illusion of depth in paintings:   The dark colour contrasting the green leaves, give us the impression of depth.   
  • 8. Dimension (n): A term used to describe an object's extent in space:The dimension created in this landscape turns to be a pleasure to observe.
  • 9. Expressionism (n): A style in art, literature or music in which the artist emphasizes emotions and reactions to things rather than objects as they really appeared. Engraving (n): A picture made by cutting a design into metal plate, put ink on it and pressing it onto a paper: I love working with engraving art, I always buy the different kits available.
  • 10. Fauvism (n): A style of painting that uses pure bright colours, which was developed in the early 20th century: By his fauvism style, André Derain was recognized around the world .  Form (n): The structure of a work of art rather than the ideas it expresses,events it describes: In this picture we can observe the head´s form of a dog publiciting Pepsi.  
  • 11. Fresco (n): Method of painting water based pigments on freshly applied plaster, usually on wall surfaces. Fresco painting is ideal for making murals because it lends itself  to a monumental style, is durable and has a matte surface. The Toreador fresco , Knossos, Crete

Gothic (adj): Style of building and art which was common in europe between the 12th and 15th centuries: This cathedral of Nôtre Dame is one of the most influential masterpiece of gothic style. Graffiti (n): Rude, humorous or political writing and pictures on the walls of buildings, trains, etc: A group of teenagers were caught by the police while they were painting a graffiti in the Council´s front wall.
  • 13. Hue (n): The common name of a colour: That colour is the particular hue that is seen when you mixture red and white.   • 16. Kinetic Art (n): The word kinetic means relating to motion. Kinetic art is art that depends on motion for its effects. Kitsch (n): German word for "trash".   • 17. Logo (n): A symbolic form that identifies organization, products, etc: Coca-Cola´s logo is known worldwide. Line (n) : An element of design. a line may be defined as the visual path left by a moving point: The lines used in the painting help the viewers to convey the emotions involved in this painting.

  • 20. Oil paint (n): A thick paint used by artists that contains oil: This picture was entirely painted using oils. Overlay: In animation art, a portion of a scene,generally a foreground element, painted on or applied to a cel and laid over the action to create the illusion of depth.
  • 21. Palette (n): A board that an artist uses for mixing paints on: The painter bought a new palette. Pastel (n): A stick of colour containing pigment and water: This picture was painted with pastels. Pastel (adj): A pastel colour is pale and light: pastel blue.

Primary colours (n): Colours that cannot be created by mixing other colours, but that can be mixed to produce all the other colours: I painted using only primary colours.   Pointillism (n): A style of art in which pictures are created using very small spots of colour: My son uses pointillism at kindergarten.
  • 23. Proportion (n): It is the relationship between objects with respect to size, number, etc.: The relationship in this drawing is not out of scale. Provenance (n): A record of previous ownership and previous locations for a work of art: The study of a work's provenance is important in establishing authenticity.

  • 25. Representational (adj): Art whose subject matter contains recognizable images from real life: Walking in the culture's house,  I found this representational art corresponding to Minguito. Repoussoir (n): Achieving perspective or spatial contrasts  by the use of illusionistic devices: Caravaggio had become famous for his  paintings of ordinary people or even  religious subjects in repoussoir compositions.
  • 26. Rhythm (n): The regular repetition of particular forms or elements in a work of art. It suggests motion: The rhythm art exhibition was a great success. RGB (n):   Stands for R ed , G reen , B lue. In web design and design for computer monitors, colours are defined in terms of a combination of these three basic additive colours.

Sfumato (n): A technique in which the transitions from light to dark are so gradual they are almost imperceptible: The Milkmaid by Johannes Vermeer van Delft inspired my love for the cooking .   .   • 28. Staffage (n): Human figures or animals added into a painting,especially in a landscape. Surrealism(n): A cultural movement in the 20th century  in which the artist connects unrelated images and objects in a strange way.
  • 29. Symbolism (n): The practice of representing things by an image,sign or symbol: The peace is symbolised by a dove. Synesthesia (n): A feeling evoked in one sense when another sense is stimulated.
  • 30.   Turpentine (n): A type of soil used for making paint more liquid or removing it from clothes, brushes etc. Tempera (n): A method of painting in which the colour is mixed with a thick liquid such as egg. Texture (n): It is used to described the way  a three dimensional work feels when touched.
  • 31. Ugly Realism (n): A style of painting developed in the 1970s that highlighted the shallow and alienating brutality of the modern world. 
  • 32. Value (n): The degree of lightness or darkness of a hue.   Vorticism (n): A style of painting that combines Cubist fragmentation of reality with hard-edged imagery derived from the machine and the urban environment, to create an expression of the dynamism of the modern world.   • 33. Water-colour (n): Paint that you mix with waterand use for painting pictures: In this picture we can appreciate the water-colour used py the painter.
  • 34. X Xerography (n):   Photographic process which uses an electrically charged metal plate. A powered pigment dusted over the plate is attracted to the charged areas, producing a visible image. Xylography (n):   An early form of wood engraving, was first seen in China in the 1st century. It is the oldest known engraving technique .
  • 35. Y Yellowing (adj): A discoloration that can occur over time in oil paintings due to excessive use of linseed oil medium. Yellowing (n): Applying any of the varnishes that are prone to yellow with age. Yellowing (n): An accumulation of dirt embedded into the varnish.
  • 36. Z Zinnober green (adj):  It is another name for chrome green.
