2. Research and Planning
We did a lot of our research
on YouTube. We did this
because it allowed us to look
at other media products that
have been created that we
could seek inspiration from.
YouTube was also very useful
to us because we could
upload our version of ‘Baggy
Trousers’ to it and get real
feedback. It was a big source
of information for us and
without it our media product
probably wouldn’t look the
same.
3. We used Wikipedia to
research genre amongst
other things. We found it
to be a reliable source.
We used Twitter to look at
the bands official page.
We used this to look at the
sort of things they were
Tweeting so that when we
v=created ours we could
do something similar. This is the official website for madness. When researching this I
tried to copy the layout when creating my own site. I noticed
they had a main item in the centre and then little bits around the
edges. Using this as inspiration allowed my version of a bands
website look a bit more professional and realistic.
Research and Planning
4. Production and Construction – Equipment and Software 1
Something that played a big part in the production of our
video was the cameras we used. We used digital cameras to
film all of the footage we used for our video. Using these
cameras was really effective for us as we were able to get
a clear, good quality image out of the ones we used. This
made it look more professional and more appealing. The
cameras were easy to use and getting the footage off of
them and on to a computer was also a simple task. This was beneficial to us because it
meant that we could spend more time editing the footage and it was easy to move
around and change.
We also had the aid of a camera phone (iPhone4s). We used this camera to take still
shots for the location shoot and for taking other various photos of set-up, mise en-
scene and also pictures that would go on our Twitter and
Facebook page. The camera is 8mp which is more than
enough, it provided us with a clear image that was also easy
to place onto different sites.
The images for our digipak and advert were taken on the
Same camera phone as the location shoot. We were happy
With the quality it provided.
NOTE: These are not the actual devices we used but are ones that are similar in looks.
5. Production and Construction – Equipment and Software 2
We used Photoshop to create our digipak and magazine insert. We
thought it worked really well because it allowed us to create
something that ended up looking good and like a real thing. It was
easy to use and we were able to use it to manipulate images and
texts how we wanted to our desired effect. It was relatively easy to
used and overall I’m happy with how the finished product looked.
We used PowerPoint mainly for research purposes. It allowed us to
put a lot of information into one space which we could refer back to
whenever we wanted to. It has also shown to be a great way of
presenting our findings
With this came the use of SlideShare. Slide share is a website that
allowed us to upload PowerPoint's onto our website.
Wix is the main software we used in the pre production stages. It is
where everything is located, our video, our research and everything in-
between. Using this was really useful as one of our tasks needed us to
create a website for our band. We chose Wix because it was easy to use
and it would look proffesional.
6. Production and Construction – Equipment and Software 2
Use of Wix.com
This is the homepage for the website I created for the band. Personally I thik usikng wix was the
best choice as it makes it look more professional. It also functions as areal website and allows
you to navigate through to different pages using buttons. It can display various types of media
including videos, pictures, slideshows, PowerPoint's and a Twitter feed amongst many more.
7. Post Production – Equipment and Software
We used Sony Vegas Pro to edit our video as it was the best thing available to us. It was available
on another group members laptop so it was easy for us to edit the video whenever we wanted,
It was reasonably easy to use and allowed us to put all the video clip we had taken and create a
full length music video. With the additional use of things such as After Effects we were able to
create effects such as the shaking clock during our video and some of the transactions are also
done using this. We were also able to alter the lighting as that was one of the issues we came
across, the colours were also made more vibrant by the use of Sony Vegas Pro.
