Goal! An evocative word. For some it prompts vivid images of
our national sport, of the FA Cup final, Wembley, our team
winning and the roar of the crowd. For others the word means
a direction, a purpose, an achievement and a measure of
success. Recognising the need to stir all of these aspirations
within young people in their community, Steelway Fensecure
pioneered the development of this design of a Multi Use
Games Area goal over 15 years ago.
Based in the West Midlands, Steelway Fensecure constructs Multi Use
Games Areas throughout the UK and overseas, that have free
unrestricted, unsupervised access. We realised that our product had to
be tough and highly resilient to meet and survive the challenges of ball
court users. In setting that goal for ourselves, we can now look back
with a sense of achievement in the knowledge that we have set a
benchmark of quality and durability, which has become the standard
for the Multisport industry.
Looking to the future we recognise that our customers want choice and
the opportunity to select the types of goals that suit their requirements.
We offer you a variety of goals including 5-A-Side, junior football and
hockey, with or without basket ball goals, cricket stumps and escape
routes. Complying to the correct British and European Standard of
BSEN 15312 is important to us and should be to you. It is your only
assurance that you are providing facilities which are safe and fully
meet stringent performance, structural and design test requirements.
Within the parameters of that standard we try to accommodate design

Choosing the correct fencing for a Multi Use Games Area
can be confusing and quite often the right specification may
be overlooked. Deciding the right height and specification
can make a real difference to the success of your project. FENCING HEIGHTS
At Steelway Fensecure Ltd we understand that budget is often the
driving factor in any project. As such we are quite specific with our
clients that during the planning stages of project specification the right
balance of price to specification ratio is achieved. Rectifying poor 1.12m 2.0m
specification or insufficient fence height several months/years later
can prove costly in the long term life of your Multi Use Games Area.
We have, through careful research and engineering knowledge,
developed the optimum specification in our Rebound fencing.
Due to the compact size of the Rebound mesh, the overall strength
is much greater than standard Weldmesh or larger mesh systems. 3.0m 3.0m
In addition our Rebound fencing offers a better ball rebound
action and combines security with aesthetics appeal.
Providing a sufficiently durable yet attractive fencing system that
will last for many years, without the costs of continuous repair, is
often less expensive than systems with lower initial outlay. 5.0m

ACOUSTIC TESTING
In August 2000 we appointed an independent
consulting engineer who conducted an on site
acoustic test on one of our installed Multi Use
Games Areas. The results indicated that so called
“Acoustic Dampers” were un-necessary and
largely ineffective. Their advice concentrated on
ensuring that the fittings stayed tight. Steelway
have now incorporated their advice into our
design process and now use a special locking
mechanism, which reduces the risk of fittings
coming loose. This area of research and
development has provided us with an accurate
insight into how acoustically friendly our Multi
Use Games Areas are.

Easy access and exit to would be players is essential and
whether you require open access or a gate the opening should
be wide enough to permit wheelchair users to pass easily. A
gap of 1.2m is commonly considered to be adequate.
Whilst many youngsters can enjoy a ball game and each others

and bullying, so escape routes through a second exit on the far side of
the court and/or through the goals is generally recommended.
Steelway Fensecure have extensive experience of working with

Teenagers enjoy meeting in groups, whether it is
congregating near shops, bus shelters, on
children’s playgrounds or playing ball games
on the road or nearby to houses and cars.
Unfortunately it is a sight that often provokes
negative thoughts from the local community.
Young people need to be able to go outside and
meet and socialise in a safe environment. Local
authorities and planners need to provide the space
and facilities to allow teenagers to integrate into
their communities.
Steelway have worked to develop products that
help to facilitate this need. Our Youth Shelter
offers a heavy duty vandal resistant place for
young people to meet.
The shelter is designed in segment form that allows for a minimum seating area for 6 youths (2 segments) up to a
seating area for 18 youths (6 segments) to suit any size of budget or space.
The shelters are ideal for location alongside a multi use games area or a local community area, school, park, public
open space and even outside places of work.
The shelters are available with a table to create areas for people to do homework, read and eat their lunch and
features a roof cover that provides shade from the sun and partial protection from the rain. The heavy duty grid
panels provide optimum visibility to deter unsociable behaviour and the seats are durable but comfortable for people
of any age group.

Children need a safe and welcoming environment in which to

of a standard and variety that attracts a wide range of age
groups and abilities.
Taking part in a sporting activity is not just about
developing skills but also about maintaining a healthy
lifestyle. In order to combat the increasing levels of
obesity in young people medical experts are advising that
children and young people need to do at least 60 minutes
of physical activity every day.

HOW TO USE THE ZINC MILLENNIUM MAP
G Locate your project on the map Annual Average Atmospheric Corrosion of Zinc, UK and Republic of Ireland, 1998-2000
G Match the colour of the square to the key
G Read off the average background corrosion rate in lu m per annum
G Identify the minimum average galvanized coating thickness for
&
steelwork in lu m
S P O R T S
G Divide the coating thickness
(average 85 lum) by the
corrosion rate to obtain the
expected minimum life of the
galvanized coating.
This is an approximate guide and is
F E N C I N G ,
most relevant to static, exterior-
exposed structures. Specifiers will
need to take account of any site
specific factors which may affect the
corrosion rate.
Detailed data for individual sites and
advice on its interpretation (e.g. the
possible effects of a local micro-
climate on the corrosion rate
actually experienced by the
galvanized structure) is available
from Galvanizers Association.
ZINC CORROSION RATES
Zinc corrosion rates are represented by five
categories indicated by the colour codes
shown below. ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
- Agricultural Development Advisory Service (ADAS Consulting) for project management.
- Mr Tom Shaw for consultancy services throughout the project and for application of the Thiessen
Corrosion Category 1 2 3 4 5 method to the project data.
- Britannia Zinc Limited for provision of laboratory facilities.
Average Corrosion 0.5 1 1.5 2 2.5 - Mr John Curtain (consultant) and Mr Michael Taylor (Britannia Zinc Limited) for valuable project
rate (lu m/year) assistance.
- All those who provided sample sites for the project.

ADAS Consulting and GA are grateful to Orange Plc for provision of survey sites in the UK and the Irish Electricity Supply
(years) Board for survey sites that allowed corrosion rates at key Irish locations to be included in the Zinc Millennium Map. Further
studies are planned to extend survey coverage in the Republic of Ireland. For areas not yet covered, the rates indicated for
comparable areas may be used as an indication of likely corrosion rates.

F E N C I N G ,
Whether building a MUGA, installing a modest playground fence or street furniture we want it to be a stress free
experience for you.
We want to give you a peace of mind in the knowledge that your project is being progressed smoothly and moving
ahead through our system, managed by competent staff.
To deliver this we provide you with:
ASSISTANCE WITH FUNDING, DESIGN AND PLANNING.
We understand that planning a Multi Use Games Area, understanding where to find funding and knowing what kind
of equipment to provide can be a minefield if you have never done this type of project before. We will provide you
with advice on what to specify, Q50 specifications, planning drawings and guidance on where to obtain funding for
your project.
FREE SITE SURVEYS
To make the fence fit the plan and profile of the site we deliver a professional service by sending out a surveyor to
gather the full site information. In so doing we avoid the necessity of cutting and drilling on site, with all the potential
Health and Safety problems that brings. We also avoid damaging the protective and decorative finish that you have
paid good money for. Simply, this extra care means that you get a better finished project.
LAYOUT DRAWINGS
The information provided by our surveyor is passed through to our highly
equipped drawing office. Your project will be drawn up by one of our fourteen
experienced computer aided design operators to produce detail elevations and
layout drawings for your approval before any fabrication work begins.
MANUFACTURE
Once we receive your approval, copies of these drawings and component
parts lists are sent through to our production office for processing. If you want to track the progress of your order,
then by contacting us, quoting the job number given on your acknowledgement of order, we can easily provide the
information you require.

factory at any one time is yours.
By following this discipline we ensure that every single individual gets a quality of service and product that fully meets
their expectations………….and that includes you!
MAINTENANCE
It is important that once our Multi Use Games Area is installed that a schedule of maintenance checks are carried out
to ensure the court not only looks good but is safe for many years to come. A full maintenance schedule is available
from our sales department. A full range of spare parts are available for all of our products.
CUSTOMER CARE
All staff are responsible for ensuring that customer service meets the requirements of our Customer Care Policy. All contractors

SUSTAINABILITY
Steelway Fensecure Ltd believe that sustainability lies at the heart of our environmental policy. That’s why we are
proud of the commitment we make to preserving the planet for future generations.
All of our products are made from 100% recyclable steel which in itself is made from >85% recycled steel. We use
hot dip galvanizing as a minimum which can be recycled and because it extends the life of our products, it reduces
the need for maintenance and replacements. This means less landfill. Our polyester powder coating uses non-toxic
powder (not that we recommend you lick the panels even if they do look good enough to eat) and has low solvent
consumption. So with less pollution entering the atmosphere that ozone layer is going to last a lot longer.
DIVERSITY AND EQUALITY
All Employees are equally entitled to be treated fairly and with respect from all of their work colleagues. It is the
Company’s policy to promote diversity through training and education. Our aim is that our workforce will be truly
representative of the community we work in and society as a whole. The Company’s commitment to Equality and
