5. TU Delft Masterscriptie Problem Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is a method to describe fluid flow and calculate pressures based on mathematical equations. A computer application based on these equations can determine the wind loads on a building. However, it has been reported that discrepancies are present when results obtained by wind tunnel tests, application of a building code and CFD-simulations are compared.
6. TU Delft Masterscriptie Result A literature study determined essential differences between assessment methods used to determine the wind load on buildings. Subsequently, the accuracy of wind tunnel tests performed at TNO and CFD-simulations, performed with CFD-application FLUENT, has been discussed. A study, including 21 simulations, has been performed regarding the application of CFD in building design. The simulations showed both good performance and shortcomings of the CFD-application.
