Weekend

At Rutgers, you'll join a dynamic and diverse community of scholars and students committed to social
justice and individual, family and community well-being. We are one of the nation’s largest schools
devoted to education and research on social welfare and are ranked in the top 15% of “Best Grad
Schools” for Social Work by US News and World Report.
TRADITIONAL
The school's largest
program prepares skilled
direct-service providers to
function in both public and
private sectors of social
welfare; and also prepares
students for advanced
social work practice,
including administrative
leadership roles in the
state's social welfare
departments and
agencies, and at all levels
of government, as well as
in the voluntary sector.
Offered in Camden,
Newark, and New
Brunswick (the full range
of the school's offerings is
available on all three
campuses).
Full-time students
complete the program
within two years of
matriculation
Part-time students
complete the program
within four years of
matriculation.

BLENDED
The Blended Online
Program offers the
flexibility and convenience
of online learning
combined with a traditional
"in person" classroom
setting for advanced
coursework.
Students in this program
have access to the full
complement of courses
and concentrations.
This program is ideal for
New Jersey residents who
want to expand their
network through field
education and in-person
classes, while having the
flexibility of online learning.
Students in this program
complete their MSW in
three years. In the first two
years, classes are offered
solely online in an
asynchronous format,
which means they are not
typically held during a
fixed meeting time.
In the third year, students
take a combination of “on
the ground” advanced
courses and online
classes in other curriculum
areas.

INTENSIVE WEEKEND
Rutgers School of Social
Work's Intensive Weekend
MSW Program is designed
to enable students
employed social service
and other human service
related fields to pursue
their MSW while
continuing to work full-
time..
Students can expect to
complete their MSW
education in 3 years.
Students who possess an
undergraduate degree in
social work from an
accredited baccalaureate
program in social work can
be considered for
advanced standing
admission, when available,
and complete the degree
in approximately 2 years.
Students take one course
at a time and are in class
one weekend each month.
Courses are consecutive
and each course consists
of two sets of weekend
meetings, supported by
online activity in the
interim weeks.
The Intensive Weekend
MSW Program has
locations in Southern,
Central, and Northern New
Jersey.
For more information: http://socialwork.rutgers.edu/Academics/IW.aspx
ONLINE
Our 100% Online MSW
program in Clinical Social
Work is designed for self-
directed students who
seek the flexibility and
convenience of online
learning. The program
offers a robust online
learning community with
close interactions between
students and faculty.
Students in this program
complete their MSW in
three years and classes
are held in an
asynchronous format,
which means that there is
not a fixed meeting time.
Courses have regularly
scheduled assignments
and due dates, just like in
a traditional classroom,
and students and faculty
interact via threaded
discussions and other
web-based technologies.
Third-year students will
have the option of taking
their advanced clinical
courses in either an
asynchronous or
synchronous format.
Field Placement at a social
service agency begins in
the summer of the first
year and continues until
program completion. We
will help you find a local
field placement.
Currently Rutgers cannot
enroll residents of all
states into the MSW
program; an enrollment
coach will provide more
information.
State social work boards
determine the
requirements for social
work licensure.
Prospective students
should contact their state
licensing board to
determine if this online
program meets licensure
requirements.
For more information: http://socialwork.rutgers.edu/Academics/MSW_Online.aspx
