3.  Congratulations you have been selected to take part in
this Honors Science class based on outstanding
academic performance and the appropriate maturity
level to take on the responsibility and demands this
class will offer. Upon successfully completing this
class and passing the June Earth Science Regents
Exam you will receive your first high school Regents
credits. With this in mind you will need to maintain
well above average academics and display that you can
provide and maintain the maturity level to succeed.
Parents will be contacted as soon as any problems
arise and will be dealt with immediately.

5.  A binder in which to keep your Science materials
 Pencils and pens (black/blue, please)
 Access to a computer and printer on a regular basis
(school computers are available daily)
 Optional: Portable USB flash drive for backing up
files

6.  You can find daily assignments posted on our class blog and on the board that you are
expected to complete. Assignments can be placed in the bin on the front table at the
beginning of the class period on the day they are due.
 To sit for the Regents examination, a student must complete at least 30, 40-minute
periods (1200 minutes) of lab work and submit appropriate lab reports to be placed on
file by the teacher.
Late Lab Policy
1. Lab assignments are due one within one week of starting the lab and need to be signed in
at the beginning of class on the date due. Ten percentage points per day of the week
(Mon-Sun) will be deducted from late Labs.
2. Only Lab assignments turned in on time may be revised for a higher grade.
3. Incomplete lab assignments will receive the grade of zero.

7.  ALL classroom work is posted to the class blog:
earthskotnicki.wordpress.com. In the event that something
cannot be posted to the blog, a note will be made to see your
teacher.
 If you are absent, you are responsible for obtaining any missed
work from the blog and/or Mr. Skotnicki.
 All makeup tests/quizzes must be completed within 3 school
days (not three classes) of a legal absence. So, if you’re absent on
Tuesday, you must have made up assessments by Friday. After
this point, late penalties apply.
 Homework is due on the day you return to school. If you don’t
have class that day, leave it on my desk in room 224.
 On the occasion that you miss class due to a field trip or music
lesson, your work is still due on that day because you know about
these absences.

8.  I don’t give you grades; you earn your own marks.
Make good decisions! You will be rewarded for
them! There are four marking periods. Your grade
will be comprised of your total points earned in the
following areas:
50% Lab work
Approximately one lab per week
30% Assessments
Unit tests and weekly Quizzes
20% Assignments
Class work, homework

9.  Setting high expectations for student achievement.
 Presenting well-prepared, interesting lessons.
 Addressing various learning styles and interests.
 Providing extra help and encouragement.
 Maintaining a positive and respectful learning
environment.
 Informing parents when you are not meeting your
responsibilities.
