Learning Objective: Increase knowledge awareness of employment opportunities for veterans in the energy field When you get past the defense department jargon, it’s clear that the men and women returning from military service bring with them an array of skills, invaluable experience, and a work ethic second to none on the globe. Veterans return home to the United States with the knowledge that they have proven themselves in some of the most challenging remote environments in the world. Military veterans, regardless of their particular areas of service, have all had: • Intensive exposure to advanced technologies, even in careers in traditional "ground-pounder" forces. • Extensive, government-paid education and training, in some of the world's best schools. • Long experience working in remote, outdoor environments • Extensive familiarity with jobs requiring work shifts longer than the traditional, eight-hour workday, and • A highly developed sense of personal responsibility for the lives, welfare and safety of their colleagues, because of their training, operational requirements and the exposure of facing off against hostile foreign forces, while often at the same time facing up to unpredictable weather forces that often seem equally hostile. This workshop will attract high interest from senior military officers as well as line and staff officer attendees. At the end of this seminar, participants will be able to: a. Examine strategies to discern the military resume and qualifications. b. Explore the skillsets that military veterans can add to the corporate environment. c. Discuss recruitment techniques for increasing veterans in the energy workforce.

Workforce Investment Boards have for too long produced substandard websites. The message on the website is diluted because WIB's are trying to speak to more than one audience. Additionally, WIB's are not engaging the website viewer appropriately because quite frankly, they do not know who they are talking to. Therefore WIB's are not delivering information on the website that is desired by those who should be the target audience for the website (employers). This presentation helps workforce investment boards retool their message so that the message addresses the needs and wants of employers. Knowing who the audience for the website is will also allow WIB's to set measurable objectives regarding engagement.

Anyone who has looked for a job in the last decade has a moment when they suddenly realize they really aren’t going to be treated like a customer. In fact, the staffing equivalent of customer service typically reminds you not to bother to email. So why should you care? Gerry will share 5 questions every recruiting leader should ask themselves before they even begin to think about what candidate experience should mean to you. He’ll also share a dozen best practices (and a few of the worst) before he’s done as he reviews some of his more unique research approaches- applying to hundreds of companies each year under an assumed name.

Sharing How Access to Resources Empowers... The SHARE Network is all about access to resources! The NEMO Workforce Investment Board is committed to providing quality services to the residents of Northeast Missouri. No matter what economic conditions we find ourselves in, we want to ensure that our services are fully accessible to those that need them. The NEMO WIB supports many locations through its traditional workforce development system along with non-traditional partnerships with Faith Based and Community Based Organizations throughout Northeast Missouri. The Northeast Region has been heavily involved in the SHARE Network Project since the beginning. These efforts are lead by key staff throughout the Region. Training and outreach has been and continues to be provided throughout the region to promote the use of the online Resource Directory and the development of SHARE Network Access Points (SNAPs). The region is using these SNAPs to provide Missouri Career Center services and access to other resources in all areas of our 16 county Region. Contact me today to find out more about how you can be a part of this movement!
