An example of a good Year 9 piece of work about the congestion charge in London (Framingham Earl High School 2006/07)

1. CONGESTION By I and D and P and I (FEHS) And with some help from Brum the Cbeebies car!

4. oh no! Congestion! SO… Brum will pay his money to be put on the Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) which is a cosmical database of numbers and letters…which you can pay for also online!! When Brum drives through the congestion charge zone his number-plate is checked, by cameras, to see if he is on the database. If he is, he is allowed through, and his details are deleted. If he is not , then his details are stored on the database. He then gets a £80 fine if he doesn’t pay before 2400 that day, the fine is reduced if he pays in the space of 2 weeks, with either having to pay the money, or he is special and registered to have 100% discount!

6. When the charge is in operation: You get charged £8 if you go through any congestion zones between the hours of 7.00am and 6.30pm, Monday to Friday So if you just go through it on the weekends, on bank holidays and between 25th of December to the 1st of January… you don’t get charged :] at all!

17. When Lorry Drivers were asked: Did your journey time reduce because of congestion charge? The results were: Over two-thirds of companies found that journey times within the zone were unchanged. Surprisingly, only about a third said that journey times were faster once in the zone. Significantly, a number of companies that said they had experienced time savings within the zone When Drivers were asked: Has the congestion charge forced you to reduce the number of journeys you make into Central London? The results were: These results show that even though people have to now pay to go through these areas, they don’t mind or they have to put up with it on a daily basis, probably to get too and from work. However there are a few people who have reduced their travels , probably shoppers and tourists., who now use the underground more.

18. Our Opinion: Well… We think congestion charge is cool, and it has reduced TRAFFIC, ACCIDENTS, ROAD COLLISIONS, ETC. and this is good. In fact, traffic has fallen by 17% and accidents by 21.5%, which is fab! However, there are still traffic jams and accidents, and rush hour is a nightmare! We could improve the roads still, with a different, or improved system.
