Pigeonpea (Cajanus cajan L.), a protein-rich legume, is a major food component of the daily diet for residents in semi-arid tropical regions of the word. WRKY, a large transcription factor gene family involved in numerous biological processes like seed germination, metabolism, plant growth, biotic and abiotic stress responses was performed in pigeon pea. The study will be helpful to understand the evolution, regulation, and distribution of the WRKY gene family, and additional exploration for the development of stress tolerance cultivars in pigeon pea and other legumes crops.

Frederick Griffith’s experiment (Microbiologist): Streptococcus pneumonia or pneumococcus: cause blood poisoning in mice S form: (smooth colony in culture media): have coat, virulent strain or pathogenic mice died R form: (Rough colony in culture media): coat-less mutant strain or non-pathogenic mice live as it lack enzyme needed for manufacture of polysaccharide coat. Dead S strain \ Live R strain: mice live Mixture of both cause mice dead(live S strain present in dead mice) Reason: coat of dead S type transferred to live coat-less R type bacteria, become live S type. Transformation: transfer of genetic material. Oswald Avery’s experiment 1944: Oswald Avery along with Colin Macleod and Maclyn McCarty discovered the agent which cause transformation. Protein digesting enzyme, RNA digesting enzyme: No affect on transformation. DNA digesting enzyme or DNase affect the transformation property. Alfred Hershey and Martha Chase’s experiment 1952: viruses grown on medium P32 incorporated into DNA of bacteriophage, while viruses grown on medium S35 incorporated into amino acid (protein coat) of bacteriophage. Infected bacterial cell agitated to remove the protein coat of infected viruses from surface. S35 label remove from bacteria while P32 labelled transferred to interior of bacteria and found viruses release from infected bacteria. Hence, hereditary material inject in bacteria was DNA not Protein.

The AquaAdvantage salmon is the world’s first genetically engineered animal for human consumption. It is a patented fish created and owned by a leading aquaculture technology corporation. In 1993, the AquaBounty CEO had an idea of pairing modern genetics and land based agriculture, came up with the idea of faster growing AquaAdvantage Salmon, which would shorten production cycles by half and drastically reduced feed costs, could finally make land-bases fish farming more economically viable. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2012 issued a draft Environmental Assessment and then approved AquaBounty Technologies' application to sell the AquaAdvantage salmon to U.S. consumers on November 19, 2015.

Power Point for research paper presentation by Kevin Hugins. Through microbial endocrinology other treatments may be developed. As this paper has discussed, application of these techniques may one day provide a treatment for pathogens other than the traditional antibiotics. It may lead to techniques for dealing with auto-immune diseases. Considering the sheer numbers of microorganisms in our microbiota and all we have yet to learn on the molecular level, this field of research may answer questions we do not even know we have yet.

Mud crab (Scylla serrata) farming is one of the main sources of livelihood in Calauag, Quezon. Commonly, they use trash fish as their major source of feeds for mud crabs. However, fluctuation on its prices happen because of supply and demand, thus the use of other natural feeds were conceptualized. This aimed to determine if there are significant differences on the weight, protein content and meat characteristics of mud crabs fed with different natural feeds. It also aimed to assess the profitability of mud crab farming in plastic cages using different natural feeds. The experiment was laid out in Complete Randomized Design with three treatments replicated thrice: T1 – trash fish, T2 – horn snail meat and T3 – yellow corn. Results revealed that mud crabs fed with horn snail had the highest weight and protein content as compared to the other treatments. Hence, had the highest ROI. While, in the sensory analysis of its meat characteristics, mud crabs fed with yellow corn had the highest mean which was rated as very much juicy, flavorful and very much acceptable.

ABSTRACT- Reproduction is a vital process provided to all living individuals by the nature itself to reproduce their similar one after death. Channa gachua is used due to easily throughout year availability. Male gonad was removed during different reproductive phases. The nourishing protein contain was recorded by Lowry’s method 660nm during matured male gonad as 0.555 mg/ml. Sertoli cells were observed on their development and parameters were recorded with the help of phase contrast microscope (Phase contrast-Olympus) as total number of Sertoli cells 150±199 in number, diameter of the cell 0.1±0.2m perimeter of the Sertoli Cell 0.1 to 0.01m in matured testis on the colour intensity. Same conditions were used to abnormal male brooder in hatchery the nourishing protein contain was comparatively low about infertile male brooder in matured gonad as 0.467mg/ml. The development of Sertoli cell and its parameter were comparatively low as number of Sertoli cells 99±120, diameter of the cell 0.001±0.005m perimeter of the Sertoli Cell in male brooder. The lesser development of sertoli cell leads to improper development of Sertoli gives insufficient sperms cell count for abnormal fertilization. Key words- Testis, Ovary, Reproduction, Reproductive phases, Supportive cells, Channa gachua

Abstract Technology has significantly changed how research is done in biology. Along with this shift, it is increasingly easier and advantageous to operate in an open science framework. In this presentation I will begin by providing an overview of our research efforts with particularly attention to challenges in data analysis. Research in our lab focuses on characterizing physiological responses of shellfish to environmental change, examining impacts and adaptive potential from the nucleotide to organism level. A core component of this includes investigating the functional relationship of genetics, epigenetics, and transcription. In our research we leverage several computing infrastructure solutions that I will describe. In addition, our lab practices Open Notebook Science. I will describe the practical aspects of how we accomplish this including addressing some of the concerns and realized advantages. Beyond online lab notebooks, we are continually experimenting with different ways to use online resources to engage with a larger audience and improve science communication. I have found this is a complex balance of time and effort versus impact and will discuss how our lab group attempts to reach this balance. Bio Steven Roberts is an Associate Professor in the School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences where his research centers around characterizing the response of aquatic organisms to environmental change. Prior to coming to the University of Washington, in 2007 he was at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts and received his PhD from the University of Notre Dame. In graduate school he spent most of his time transferring agarose gels, and now he spends most of his time transferring files.

Heather Hedden, Senior Consultant at Enterprise Knowledge, presented “The Role of Taxonomy and Ontology in Semantic Layers” at a webinar hosted by Progress Semaphore on April 16, 2024. Taxonomies at their core enable effective tagging and retrieval of content, and combined with ontologies they extend to the management and understanding of related data. There are even greater benefits of taxonomies and ontologies to enhance your enterprise information architecture when applying them to a semantic layer. A survey by DBP-Institute found that enterprises using a semantic layer see their business outcomes improve by four times, while reducing their data and analytics costs. Extending taxonomies to a semantic layer can be a game-changing solution, allowing you to connect information silos, alleviate knowledge gaps, and derive new insights. Hedden, who specializes in taxonomy design and implementation, presented how the value of taxonomies shouldn’t reside in silos but be integrated with ontologies into a semantic layer. Learn about: - The essence and purpose of taxonomies and ontologies in information and knowledge management; - Advantages of semantic layers leveraging organizational taxonomies; and - Components and approaches to creating a semantic layer, including the integration of taxonomies and ontologies
