This document provides a quick guide to using the FindIt@ resource discovery tool at NMIT to search for and access books and other materials. It explains how to enter search terms, limit results to specific resource types like books, view detailed records for items, and place reservations for items that are checked out or located at other branches. The guide aims to illustrate the entire process from searching to accessing full details to reserving items needed for assignments.

2. Where all good stories begin...
This is the main search box where
you can find ANYTHING

3. If you know the title of an item
you wish to find you can enter
it into the search box.
If you are not sure of the title
you can enter keywords,
including the name of the
author.

4. The first thing you will notice after
entering keywords is the HUGE
number of results!

5. By default when you
search FindIt@ you
are retrieving EVERY
resource type that
NMIT has including...

6. To make your results more
manageable use the LIMIT TO
function to refine your results...this
is the story of a BOOK so we will
refine to Catalogue only!

7. After you limit your results will more
likely see results for item type BOOK.
This initial result will give you some
basic information including Title,
Author, Publication date, Location,
Call Number and availability Status.
If you wish to see more detail about the item
you can click on the item title...

8. By doing this you will be
given more information about
the book which you can use
to reference it should you use
it for an assignment.
If the item is not held at your
local branch or it is NOT
available you can place a
request for it by clicking
Retrieve catalogue record...

9. ...by doing that you will be
taken to this screen where
you can Place Reservation
and have the item set
aside for you when it
becomes available or sent
to your local branch if it is
held elsewhere.
