OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, SWBAT: 1. retell the information about written English 2. justify why Just Words is important 3. locate the sections of the Student Notebook 4. practice saying the vowel, consonants and blend sounds by tapping …80% of the time.
Let’s review!! Logographic writing system: Is a symbol which represents an idea, or a word. Alphabetical writing system: Each letter (or symbol) represents a sound or a combination of sounds. 26 letters, 44 sounds *** Both are systems of writing to communicate thoughts or ideas!!

we can make thousands of words by combining letters!YOU WILL LEARN TO… move around three letters to make hundreds of words! construct words and see how they work in English! know letters and sounds to build vocabulary of thousands of words!

Sound Cards Why are some cards peach?  Why are some cards yellow? Do you remember the sounds of each letter? Let’s sound them off!! When you put ‘c’ and ‘h’ together, what happens? What is a digraph? When you add a vowel to a consonant, like m + u = /muh/
Clipping Tapping fingers together as you say each sound of a letter Why is this important?  In order to blend them into words. Let’s make the word mat FANTASTIC!!
Reference Chart Let’s look at the Basic Keywords  How does the keywords help us in our study of Just Words? Keywords aid memory and provide reference to help you access the sounds. Let’s sound off each letter! We will refer to this page anytime to help remind us of these sounds!!
Keywords qu(sound card) q has a buddy u and they always go together to form a word as in queen! Some consonants are easy to remember and others are hard. With these consonants, sketch a picture that will help you remember their sounds… g= game j= jug qu= queen x= fox y= yellow
YOU DO! (5min) What do you call the letters in peach cards? vowels How important are vowel sounds? Very important because every word and syllable needs a vowel. Let’s say the letter-keywords-sound for each vowel: a=apple e=Ed i=ink o=octopus u=up SKETCH THIS ON YOUR STUDENT NOTEBOOKS!!

  • 5. Let’s review!! Logographic writing system: Is a symbol which represents an idea, or a word. Alphabetical writing system: Each letter (or symbol) represents a sound or a combination of sounds. 26 letters, 44 sounds *** Both are systems of writing to communicate thoughts or ideas!!

  • 13. Sound Cards Why are some cards peach? Why are some cards yellow? Do you remember the sounds of each letter? Let’s sound them off!! When you put ‘c’ and ‘h’ together, what happens? What is a digraph? When you add a vowel to a consonant, like m + u = /muh/

  • 15. Reference Chart Let’s look at the Basic Keywords How does the keywords help us in our study of Just Words? Keywords aid memory and provide reference to help you access the sounds. Let’s sound off each letter! We will refer to this page anytime to help remind us of these sounds!!
  • 16. Keywords qu(sound card) q has a buddy u and they always go together to form a word as in queen! Some consonants are easy to remember and others are hard. With these consonants, sketch a picture that will help you remember their sounds… g= game j= jug qu= queen x= fox y= yellow
  • 17. YOU DO! (5min) What do you call the letters in peach cards? vowels How important are vowel sounds? Very important because every word and syllable needs a vowel. Let’s say the letter-keywords-sound for each vowel: a=apple e=Ed i=ink o=octopus u=up SKETCH THIS ON YOUR STUDENT NOTEBOOKS!!
