1. Android, leading the mobile application market!
Google is giving sleepless nights to Apple with the advent of Android. Android is catching
popularity in the mobile market like wild fire. A recent report states that, it is increasing at three
times the rate of Apple's App Store. There is a change in the number of the Android Market app
which has increased to 127 % since many months and likewise there is a rise in the number of
app in the Apple Market app which is 44%.
“Android is maturing fast”, in comparison to Apple App Store - stated by mobile security firm
Lookout, Chief Technology Officer Kevin Mahaffey. There is about 350,000 app for the iPhone
as compared to Android’s 88,000 apps which got doubled in August. So now, as per the analysis,
there are about 1, 50,000 Android apps.
Overall, if properly noticed, there is a clear difference which can be seen between the two
smartphones’. The android percentage has increased to 34% from 22% of the total amount since
August, whereas there is a slight decline in the total number of paid apps in the Apple App Store
from 70 % of the total to 66%.
If the same kind of progress will persist in the Android apps, then there will be more apps than
the Apple apps Store which will be visible till the mid 2012.
On the other side, it is observed that developers are still stuck to Apple more than Android. The
census says that the Apple App Store pulled about 23,000 extra developers between the year
2010 Aug and 2011 Feb, whereas Android market pulled just above 4000 Android developers in
the same time frame. The average number of applications allotted to each developer is 4.8 for
Apple App store and 6.6 for Android Market.
It is observed that there are many applications in both the market places which can access the
users’ area and contact information, even though it seems to be decreasing as the developers are
becoming more privacy concerned. The data suggests that there are 11% of the iPhone apps is
having access to contacts and 34% are having access to location as compared to 7.5% and 28%,
respectively for Android.
The outcome of the research is that there are 4 alternative app markets- 2 Android market places
aiming at Chinese users and two markets which provide owners of jail-broken devices access to
apps unavailable in the official App Store and to pirated apps.
2. At present, if we compare both the markets, iPhone Apps market is stable whereas the android
market is rising. There might be a stiff competition between two of them. If you want to keep
