And imagine if that recording also marked one of the earliest recordings of super soul singer far
Emilio Santiago?

Back in 1974 trumpeter and studio owner Bill Horne (known to Loronix fans from his many
appearances in the 'Guess Who' photo competitions) recorded this session with Vinhas backing
Santiago.

DISCOGRAPHIES
For many years the tapes languished on a dusty shelf in Leblon, but some years ago my
grandfather Jose Ignacio was given a copy, un-mastered and straight from the tapes but so
fantastic that it deserves to see the light of day for all dedicated Vinhas and Emilio fans. MUSICIANS

The musicians' names are long forgotten (but some Loronix fans please tell us if it's you

playing!) but are 'feras' in their own right.



And if this super rare session wasn't enough, I've included a demo recording of Emilio Santiago AGGREGATORS
that I believe was used to get his recording contract with Durval Ferreira at CID in 1975. Edson

Hello, good evening! This is an unscheduled post. Sarah Vaughan was recently released a couple
of days ago and I was waiting for a few weeks before taking this one in consideration. However,
every road leads to Sarah Vaughan today. My mother came here today and showed great
curiosity to hear the last, O Som Brasileiro de Sarah Vaughan. Everybody knows my mother is a
great fan of Brazilian divas of the last century, but such like me; she has a very limited
knowledge of international singers. I decided to take O Som de Sarah Vaughan for a spin and
she got really amazed, deciding to stay additional hours until this one gets finished.

It was one of those perfect days. My mother took her way home hearing this album, naturally,
my best choice for tonight. Let's see.

This is Sarah Vaughan - Exclusivamente Brasil (1980), for Philips, featuring the guitar of Helio



Delmiro, a gifted musician that I never had the chance to make before at Loronix. Helio
Delmiro has a really special participation here, which includes his picture at the front cover and
a whole track, 04 - Vivo Sonhando (Dreamer) (Antonio Carlos Jobim). Personnel listing was
credited by Philips and features Aloysio de Oliveira as producer with arrangements by Maestro

Hello, good evening! Carnaval has just started in Brazil. We have a big weekend ahead, a 5-day
long holiday. Everyone that has the opportunity to travel, do so, leaving their homes today and
returning only on the night of Wednesday. I'll be in Rio de Janeiro, as I use to do. Carnival
makes Rio a quiet and empty city, believe it or not. I will follow the example of most music
blogs friends of Loronix, showing something with Carnaval flavor. Let's see.

This is Donga - A Musica de Donga (1974), for the
legendary label Marcus Pereira. By definition, this ...OR USE YOUR FAVORITE FEED READER
is not a Carnaval album, but a very important
document featuring Donga, a musician who is part
of Brazilian popular music history. Donga is
credited to be the first to record a Samba tune in
the year of 1916, a very important song that we
know in Brazil by heart, Pelo Telefone, which is
the track 10 of this album. Anyway, the whole
album is delicious to hear with renowned
musicians performing Donga compositions, wtg
including Elizeth Cardoso, Almirante, Paulo
Tapajos, Dino, Meyra, Altamiro Carrilho, Canhoto
and many others.

In a couple of hours I will be updating Loronix with a new interface. If you are reading this text
with the interface already updated, I really hope you like it. This new look has many new
features that should be implemented in the forthcoming days. It is also faster than the previous €Advertisement

Hello, good evening! I was looking for something at Amazon.com this weekend when by
coincidence, I found this album labeled "This item has been discontinued by the manufacturer."
I believe that Balancamba was the last Lucio Alves album commercially available. This is sad.
We know these reissues are forged by the hard work of people who Love Brazilian music as we
do. I'm speaking specifically about Caetano Rodrigues and Charles Gavin, two great friends of
our community, to whom I dedicate this record, which will continue his public career -- on very
modest basis by the way -- here at Loronix. Let's see.

This is Lucio Alves - Balancamba (1963) for Elenco as ME-2, the second
album released by the anthological and very important Brazilian label.
Balancamba blends the words "balanco" and "samba" and makes justice
to this title. Lucio Alves's unique voice and sophisticated timing delivers
a repertoire with compositions by Ronaldo Boscoli and Roberto
Menescal, which is also here (probably with a Conjunto...). I was
wondering about the duo excitement when working with the great
master in a whole record... And to close the golden pot, Maestro Carlos
Monteiro de Souza takes care of arrangements and conduction. I think it
is time to stop. Lucio Alves does not need to be introduced. Tracks

Paulinho Nogueira - Sambas e Marchas da Nova Geracao

Hello, good evening! I am very proud to be in charge of the technology side of Musicos do
Brasil: Uma Enciclopedia Instrumental, the first Brazilian music Encyclopedia devoted to
instrumental music. The website was recently updated with new features and left the Beta
stage. When I have an album to share with the community, the Encyclopedia is very useful,
being a solid reference source. Follow this link to reach Paulinho Nogueira's entry and read
about this great master of Brazilian guitar.

The Encyclopedia says that Paulinho Nogueira was more active as a teacher than as a studio
musician. I also learned that Paulinho Nogueira was a designer, an essential skill to forge his
invention, the craviola, an instrument that was adopted by Luiz Bonfa on his anthological
Jacaranda album. Anyway, it is better leave the discovery pleasure for you; in the meantime,
Loronix delivers another great Paulinho Nogueira record never released in CD. Let's see.

This is Paulinho Nogueira - Sambas e Marchas da Nova Geracao (1967), for RGE, with the
participation of Luiz Loy Quinteto and Os 3 Moraes. Sorry, for talking about different things at
this post, but I just received from our friend Warren a YouTube video that really worth to be
shared with you. It is about a guy that made a not authorized commercial movie about a store
using a mobile phone camera, here. You will understand why it is so great when you take a
look. Anyway, Paulinho Nogueira has the accompaniment of not credit musicians, singing on a
few tracks. Track 01 - Roda (Gilberto Gil / Joao Augusto) a perfect example of one of Paulinho
Nogueira's strengths, which is the way he creates a completely different version of well-known
compositions of other musicians. Tracks include:

Hello, good evening! Yet another tiny record from Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira
collection made available at Loronix, once again, another really worth checking release. For
those who do not know this collection, Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira was published in 48
issues by Editora Abril Cultural between the years 1970 and 1972. Each issue includes a
magazine with the size of a 10" record and a 10" record with a summary of the featured artist.
It is perfect if you want get along with an artist on a single hearing. Let's see.

This is Johnny Alf - Historia da Musica Popular Brasileira - 43 (1972), for Abril Cultural, featuring
the Bossa Nova giant Johnny Alf performing his compositions and other artists performing
Johnny Alf music. I said the collection is great, but the thing I like most is the magazine
featuring pictures that are not easy to find, such as the one I'm making available below. I don't
have muscles to transfer the magazine to digital format. My apologies. Perhaps one day I can

Hello, good evening! Here we have an album that does not need to be explained in details.
Tamba Trio was one of the nicest vocal / instrumental Bossa Nova combos from the 1960's and
it is very hard to find someone that doesn't have good feelings about these guys. This album
was released in the middle of two classic and well-known Tamba Trio records, which is Tamba
Trio - Tempo (1964) and Tamba 4 - We and the Sea (1967), for A&M records in the US. Thanks
Jorge Mello for another nice contribution. Let's see.

This is Tamba Trio - Tamba Trio (1966), for Philips, featuring Luiz Eca, Bebeto, Ohana and the
participation of Orquestra Sinfonica do Teatro Municipal. I have been digging Google's results
for additional information about this album, but my searches were unsuccessful. I cannot
explain why this album is a missing piece even in some important discographies. Anyway, there
is a bad thing about this post. I forgot to transfer and include the back cover at the zl ball,
which is a very important back cover written by Edu Lobo with detailed information about
Tamba Trio and the new composers Caetano Veloso (05 - Quem me Dera, 11 - No Carnaval),



Gilberto Gil (03 - Iemanja, 07 - Procissao) and Francis Hime (02 - Minha, 06 - Sem Mais Adeus).

I have a nice connection with this album and I'm glad it is back to Loronix again. The first time
it was made available, it lasts less than 24 hours. I made it by mistake, a few copies were
already being sold by an on-line store and now it has gone definitively out of print, which is a
shame, this is a classic. As I said, this album was important for my background as an amateur
musician and also to drag my attention to Brazilian music and the four giants that share the
role of main performer, the tropicalia legends Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and Gal Costa and
Caetano's sister Maria Bethania. Let's see.

This is Doces Barbaros - Doces Barbaros (1976), for Philips, according with many reviews I read
today, this is one of the nicest Brazilian popular music albums recorded in the 70's. The group
and the concert were assembled to celebrate 10 years of their artistic career. I also learn
something that I did not know today, a DVD was released with original footage of these
concerts as a documentary featuring backstage scenes and live performances. Meanwhile, let's
stay with this double album, in the spirit of Carmen Miranda Centennial. Tracks include:
