Wolf argues that women are oppressed by the pressure
to fit into a myth of beauty. She believes that although
women do have more rights, they are stilled held back
by an obsession with physical appearance and a very
narrow definition of beauty. This beauty myth is socially
constructed to help maintain patriarchy. Wolf argues
that women’s magazines have played a pivotal role in
the selling of the beauty myth.
3. Andrea Levy(2005)- raunch
culture
Levy attacks the increasingly sexualised culture that
objectifies women. She argues that women are
encouraged to see themselves as object and see sex
as their only source of power. This can be seen in the
increasing sexualised music videos by female pop
artists and also pop artists in music magazines.
