1. Dear Parents,
I hope everyone had a wonderful break! I am
glad we had some nice weather!
This week in art, students made their landform
models out of salt dough. They have been drying all
week and we will be painting them in our next art
class. The landforms will be displayed along with our
classroom magazines we made at the Oxbow Expo on
April 24th. Please look for further information about it
in next week’s newsletter!
Today we had an assembly to celebrate March
is reading month. Each student received a
participation certificate. There were three students in
our class who received special certificates for going
above and beyond. Congratulations to Dylan for being
the most improved reader, Sarah for reading the most
minutes in March, and Audrey for being the most
expressive reader. Keep up the great work!!
Permission slips for our field trip to Indian
Springs were due today. If I did not receive a
permission slip I sent a new one home with your child.
If it is not sent back in by Monday I will assume your
child will not be participating and they will be placed
in an alternative learning environment that day.
There are many students who have turned in their
permission slips but have not brought in their t-shirts.
Please start sending them in next week. I will be
keeping them at school so no one forgets them on the
day of the field trip.
Thank you for all of the support with Weekend
Writing at home. It was great to hear all of the writing
today! A new topic was sent home with your child
today.
Thank you to all the wonderful parent
volunteers I have had this year. I will not be having
volunteers in the room for the rest of the year, as we
will be spending lots of time preparing for 3rd grade,
practicing for the MEAP, and finishing end of the year
assessments. I have appreciated everyone’s help and
support whether it was at school or from home. I
couldn’t have done many things this year without you!
If you have any questions, please feel free to
contact me. Remember you can reach me by our
folder, by email, or by phone.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Ealy
Letter from Mrs. Ealy
What We’re Learning About!
Math – This week we finished Unit 9 on measurement. We learned
all about area, capacity and weight. Unit 10 is on decimals and
place value.
Reading – During reader’s workshop this week we reviewed some
important things that should be happening during reading time. After
the break some students forgot what readers workshop should look
and sound like! We also learned about reading synopsis’s to help us
decide if the book will be a good fit.
Writing – This week students spent time learning how to write a
letter to someone. They learned about each component that is
needed for a proper letter. Students were able to choose who they
wanted to write to. We also did a fun activity where students wrote
to a funny monster!
Science/Social Studies – This week we did one last project to wrap
up our unit on landforms. The students were also introduced to their
next unit in social studies which is People Working Together.
