4. HALF-DAY POST-CONFERENCE WORKSHOP A
WEDNESDAY 9th APRIL 2014
Holiday Inn, Regent Park, London, UK
8:30 – 12.30pm
Integral Spatial Intelligence in
ISR Applications
Workshop Leader:
Peter Sapaty, Chief Scientist,
National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine
Overview:
The known failures of intelligence in world hot points and related
operations against terrorism and insurgency often result from
incapability of piecing together multiple scattered facts and
seeing the global picture. This should be done not only at but
rather ahead of real time to win and survive. Comprehensive
scientific analysis of these processes will be presented and a new
intelligent, parallel, and distributed networking technology will
be revealed that can effectively solve asymmetric problems in
dynamic and hostile environments. The approach is based on
holistic and gestalt principles rather than traditional
interoperability organizations, allowing us to grasp integral
spatial solutions on top semantic level while engaging available
human and technical resources not before but rather during
evolution of missions and goals. Exemplary ISR-related scenarios
expressed in a special high-level language and oriented on
both manned and unmanned solutions will be exhibited
confirming viability of the approach offered. Other discussed
applications will include human-robot interaction, cooperative
robotics, electronic and cyber warfare, command intent and
advanced command and control, as well as distributed missile
defence.
Programme:
8.30
Registration & Coffee
9.40
Spatial Grasp Technology (SGT)
• Expressing semantics of complex operations in
distributed environments in high-level Spatial
Grasp Language (SGL)
• Networked implementation of distributed SGL
interpreter oriented on coordination of large
distributed systems
• Expressing command intent and advanced
command and control in SGL
9.00
10.30
11.00
11.50
12.30
How the real world can be organized
• Traditional atomistic, agents-based world vision
and system management
• Holistic, gestalt-related comprehension of
complex systems and advantages of its
application in civil and military areas
Coffee Break
Distributed ISR scenarios in SGL
• Penetration, creation, analysis, and impact of
distributed infrastructures
• Global awareness and targets collection by
spreading spatial intelligence
• Simultaneous tracing and analysis of multiple
mobile objects
Other SGT applications
• Collective robotics and unified transition to fully
unmanned systems
• Electronic and cyber warfare
• Distributed integrated air and missile defence
End of workshop
About the workshop host
Dr Peter Sapaty (educated in power networks & missile control),
Chief Research Scientist, Director of Distributed Simulation and
Control, Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, is with networking for 45
years. Except Ukraine, worked in Germany, UK, Canada and
Japan as Alexander von Humboldt awardee, project leader,
research professor and invited professor, created and chaired
special interest group on Mobile Cooperative Technologies within
Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) project in the US. Invented
high-level distributed control technology used in different
countries and resulted in a European Patent and two John Wiley
books, with the third one in progress. Published more than 160
scientific papers worldwide on distributed system organizations.
Current areas of interest: models and languages for coordination
and simulation of distributed dynamic systems with application in
cooperative robotics, emergency management, command and
control, and infrastructure protection. Peter regularly served as
workshop organizer, sessions chair, keynote and invited speaker at
scientific and defence conferences in the UK, US, Japan, Portugal,
Spain, Germany, Singapore, India, and Turkey. His bio is in Marquis
Who’s Who in the World and Cambridge Outstanding
Intellectuals of the 21st Century.

About the workshop host
Robert is the Deputy Team Leader ISTAR at 3SDL Ltd and
has an interesting mix of military and commercial
experience in the Defence and Security fields. He has 10
years’ industry experience, most of which has been in
Defence and Security project, account and
stakeholder management roles.
He is currently
engaged in a number of Coalition-focussed ISR projects
across defence including cultural and organisational
change and Urgent Operational Requirement (UOR)
Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) stakeholder work. His
operational experience has been in the field of imagery
intelligence, including strategic analysis and
development of tactical Full Motion Video analysis.
Rob has extensive and continuous training and
workshop experience in the ISTAR domain. His training
style focusses on student participation, allowing them to
form their own conclusions when discussing often highly
complex subjects. His delivery is not about ‘death by
PowerPoint’; but instead the focus is on real-world
experience and its application through dynamic
workshops, exercises and discussions.
