Introduction Student Page Title Introduction Task Process Evaluation Conclusion Credits [ Teacher Page ] The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games are mere months away.  The count down has begun, the torch has been lit and the runners are running.  As an investigative journalist you have been asked by a sponsor to create a newspaper  highlighting the events surrounding  the Olympic games. Lucky for you other newspapers have already begun reporting on it. Your sponsor want s you to look at international newspapers to find out what other countries are saying about the Games.  This might be the most controversial Olympics in recent years, use your skills as an investigative journalist to find out what issues are affecting the Games. Introduction (Teacher) [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page This Webquest was created as part of a technology class at Colorado State University. The purpose of the class is to help future teachers become more familiar with using technology in the classroom.  The idea for this particular webquest was inspired by Mrs. Keough’s 8 th /9 th  grade Current Events class at Lesher Junior high in Fort Collins, Colorado. Mrs. Keough’s class has been learning about events around the world in an attempt to understand events that are affecting the world they live in. Learners (Teacher) [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page The lesson is designed for 8 th  and 9 th  grade Current Events students. Students will need to know how to conduct research online, and organize it into news articles.  The lesson will also test students writing ability when they write their newspapers. Curriculum Standards (Teacher) [ Student Page ] Title Introduction Learners Standards Process Resources Credits Teacher Page Students will learn about Current Events, researching online and writing their own newspapers. This lesson meets the following Colorado Department of Education Standards.  Standards: History Standards 2.2 Students know how to interpret and evaluate primary and secondary sources of historical information. 2.3 Students apply knowledge of the past to analyze present-day issues and events from multiple, historically objective perspectives. 3.1 Students know how various societies were affected by contacts and exchanges among diverse peoples.  English Standards  STANDARD 1: Students read and understand a variety of materials. STANDARD 5: Students read to locate, select, and make use of relevant information from a variety of media, reference, and technological sources. It will help them understand the controversy surrounding the 2008 Olympic games and the different perspectives around the world about it. The lesson also assists students in finding international sources online and hopefully encourage them to use these sources in the future.
