This report is an important step to better understand children’s mental disorders, identify gaps in data, and develop public health strategies to protect and promote children’s mental health, so children can reach their full potential in life. Project AWARE would reach 750,000 young people. Minority Fellowship Program – objective is to train culturally competent behavioral specialists to deal directly with at risk minority youth. Healthy Transitions – objective is to support transitional youth (16-25 yrs.) at high risk for mental health issues and substance abuse. The Nation – Louisiana outranks the country in all child/adolescent emotional disorders and the level of poverty. The only place on the Survey where Louisiana outranked the country was in the percentage of children who had not received treatment or counseling in the past year.
