The Right Of Privacy And Protection From Government...
The right to privacy and protection from government abusing power has been a debatable topic for
centuries. Many American people struggled for years, arguing in courts, and proving their right to
privacy and protection. It is the fourth amendment that clearly states, The right of the people to be
secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall
not be violated ... So shouldn t the government refrain from violating this rule? Not according to the
FBI. In December 2015, the FBI recovered an iPhone (Apple Inc. cellphone product) at the crime
scene of a mass shooting in San Bernardino, California. The iPhone was claim to belong to one of the
terrorists involved in the attack. The FBI has contacted Apple requesting that the company disables the
security feature on the iPhone they obtained at the crime scene. Apple declines the requests with the
thought of its customer s privacy in mind. Even though the FBI does have probably cause, forcing the
company to comply to their request will contradict Apple s privacy policies that are insured to their
customers. Should the government be allowed to force Apple to betray their customers?
As of March last year, an estimate total of 94 million iPhones was in use in the United States. That is
potentially more or less of 94 million Apples customers that could experience the effects over one
iPhone dispute. The problem with unlocking one iPhone isn t merely just a matter of broken

The 1920 Wall Street Bombing
With Occupy Wall Street gaining headway and the country seeing greater inequality than ever,
anarchists and socialists protested in the streets of Lower Manhattan s Corner in a rage at the banking
systems. Before the turn of the century, the feelings projected toward the financial barons of New York
were all but tranquil. Because the majority of the wealth among a few happened at the expense of
laborers and echoed with Americans, its result lead to terrorism (King 2011).
On September 16, 1920, an explosion tore through the streets of Lower Manhattan s Corner . The Wall

At 12:01, with the echo of the last bell lingering in the air, the one hundred pounds of dynamite hidden
in the wagon exploded (Andrews, 2014). Shrapnel encompassed the immediate area; people were
dropping everywhere. The structures nearby shook as the shock wave slammed through the exterior
walls. The cloth awnings that overlooked the streets burst into flames (Bellows, 2007). Next, came a
rain shower of glass that drenched the streets from the shattered windows. Nearby, World War I
veterans experienced a scene of devastation very similar to that of the battlefields. They initially
suspected that cause of such destruction had come from the skies (King, 2011). One witness wrote, It
was a crash out of a blue sky, an unexpected, death dealing bolt which in a twinkling turned into a
shamble the busiest corner of Americas financial center (Gage 2002).
Thirty people were killed instantly. Eight later died from their injuries and hundreds of others were
injured. A majority of the persons killed were messengers making deliveries, stenographers, clerks,
and brokers (Gross, 2001).The blast was so strong it sent debris soaring as high as 34 floors and
derailed a street car one block over(Andrews, 2014). Buildings shook as their large windows burst

Hominin Naledi Essay
5 facts about the new Hominin Naledi
South Africa An international team of scientist led by Professor Lee R. Berger, announced on
Thursday the discovery of a new hominin species named Homo Naledi from the fossils found in the
Rising Star cave in South Africa. This adds a new branch to the human species family tree.
Modern humans, who belong to a specie named Homo sapiens, continue to be until today the only
living species in our genus. But 20,000 years ago there were other species of the genus Homo that are
now referred as hominins . The discovering of Lee R. Berger, an American paleoanthropologist who is
a professor of human evolution studies at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg,

The creature, which evidently walked upright, represents a mix of traits. The hands and feet look like
Homo, but the shoulders and the small brain recall Homo s more ape like ancestors, the researchers
said.
It s brain was no larger than a baseball, its shoulders and torso primitive, its fingers long and curved,
allowing H. naledi to climb and swing from the trees. [...] Its long legs and feet, nearly
indistinguishable from those of modern man, allowed it not only to walk upright but also to travel for
many miles at a time reported from The Washington Post Amy Ellis Nutt.
Scientists also believe that Homo naledi buried their dead. The number of bodies, their location, and
the hard access characteristic of the cave makes scientists believe that Naledi species left deliberately
bodies in caves as a way of burying them. This has been considered as a behavior limited to modern
humans and never seen before in such a primitive human, reported The New York Times. This could
have big implications for understanding the origins of modern human behavior.
They may have used tools. The hands suggest tool using capabilities as they had extremely curved
fingers. More curved that almost any other species at such early state of hominin, suggesting they had

The Gospel Of Biblical Worldview
Benchmark Assignment: Gospel Essentials Biblical Worldview is composed of a number of essential
elements. Including God who created the World, the human race that He created, the Son of God, and
His death on the Cross which Christians believe was the debt Christ paid for the forgiveness of
mankind s sinful nature. This poses the question: what are the basic beliefs and generalizations to a
Christian worldview, and is Christianity nothing but ancient tradition and biblical dogma, or is it more
than that. Is there some level of truth to life changing transformations Christians claim are the direct
result of a relationship with an omnipotent being whom they refer to as God?

The Impact Of Social Security On The Elderly Population
Social Security

Social Security
Introduction
14th August 2015 marked the 80th anniversary after President Franklin Roosevelt signed the Social
Security Act in the year 1935. The program has been important in alleviating poverty amongst the
elderly population. However, the system has started to how its age. The OASID (Social Security and
Disability Insurance Trust Funds) is presently running on cash deficit as the baby boomers retire. The
DI (Disability Insurance) program has been running on deficits for several uses and has been predicted
to exhausts the trust fund. The social security provides important income security to millions of the
beneficiaries but is on towards insolvency. Presently, the Social Security program pays more in
benefits that it is collecting in revenue and has been projected that the trusts funds will run out in the
year 2033 (Bernan Press, 204). At this instance, all the beneficiaries regardless of income and age will
face an immediate twenty three percent benefits cut. The longer term OASI would need more than a 4
percent point rise in the payroll tax so as to close the gap in funding over the next 75 years or benefits
would have to be reduced below the promised 27 percent level by the year 2090 (Bernan Press, 2014).

America s cities run on these types of institutions. Most of the anchor institutions remain
economically strong, even as cities fight job loss. Every anchor institution has planned something to
improve the economy of the neighborhoods.
The key strategies include so many things such as real estate developer; institutions can use real estate
development to anchor local economic growth. Institutions can also use the local workers to finish

Essay about Religion Purification in Taxi Driver
He s a profit and a pusher.
Partly truth partly fiction.
A walking contradiction. Kris Kirstofferson
In Martin Scorcese s Taxi Driver, Travis Bickle repeatedly expresses two ideas that are central to the
film. First, Travis has an undying wish to purify the world. He wants to rid his city of all the evil and
scum that currently inhabits the city s cold and damp streets. Second, is the method by which Travis
tries to obtain his goals. Travis Bickle tries to clean up his city by methods similar to those of religious
figures. He even takes on a role as a savior figure. Travis Bickle s quest to save the world via religious
ideas fails, and instead results is a bloodbath.

Much like Noah, he believes that he will be saved, while everyone else in the world perishes from the
torrents of water. Later in the film, Travis feels compelled to take action against this sleaze. He wants
to help purify the world by eliminating the sleaze by whatever methods he deems appropriate. Even if
this means killing his fellow man, then so be it.
Another instance where we see Travis revert to this theme of purifier is when he first meets Betsy. The
childish scrawl in his diary tells the story. I first saw her at Palantine headquarters at 63rd and
Broadway. She was wearing a white dress. She appeared like an angle. Out of this filthy mass. She is
alone. They cannot touch her. In these few choice words, Travis Bickle again reemphasis the recurring
religious references. In this specific instance, Travis s first words about his new love interest are, She
was wearing a white dress. White is traditionally a color used to represent purity. In Travis s eyes,
Betsy is the virginal ideal that he must strive to obtain. To him she is his perfect match. Possibly the
most important aspect of this quotation is the religious references that it conjures up. Travis refers to
Betsy as an angel; she is one of the few people who does not sink down into the muck that covers the
city.
Another interesting aspect of this

Imperialism And Darkness In Joseph Conrad s Heart Of Darkness
Joseph Conrad s 1899 novel heart of darkness, a story of madness and realization of the open world
giving the idea of imperialism and darkness. Mr. Conrad carried his own idea of the horror a story like
no other leaving the open ended idea of the horror which can never truly be defined. Therefore, Giving
the character of Mr. Marlow more ideas about the real world and imperialism, represented by Mr.
Kurtz. Power corrupts a man, Mr. Kurtz proves that point; Mr. Kurtz is the idea of imperialism,
controlling the natives( savages ) to keep as protection from harm and going insane. They were not
criminals, they were nothing earthly now, nothing but black shadows of disease and starvation, lying
confusedly in the greenish gloom. The policy of extending a country s power and influence through
diplomacy or military force. Subsequently, is exactly what Mr. Kurtz represents in the trade and
discovery of ivory which leads him to go crazy. Using fear and the gaslight method on the savages Mr.
Kurtz completes the task of controlling and gaining influence over the native people. Much like slaves
in the United States reacted the same way as the savages wish to keep Mr. Kurtz as he was in his last
days. Prior to their personal interaction, Mr. Marlow admires and knows Kurtz through his writings
and reputation concerning the civilization of the African continent. He then sets out a journey with the

James Fenimore Cooper s Last Of The Mohicans
James Fenimore Cooper s 1826 novel Last of the Mohicans, revolves around the journey a colonial
scout named Hawkeye, and his friend, a Mohican Warrior, Chingachkook, one day risked their lives to
help out guide 2 English sisters, and their two friends, a British Major, Duncan Heyward and David
Gamut, during the French and Indian War in 1757, the third year of the war, through hostile territory.
The way that Cooper got to pull his readers is by going from Colonel Munro, father of the 2 English

to put up an act in front of every person in the court, the other girls began to pick up the act she was

aside, and team up even if it s for evil. The majority of the girls were friends with the girl they were
teaming up against but they thought about what would happen if they didn t and they might have

Literary Analysis Of Classical Landscape By Charles Sheeler
Classical landscape by Charles Sheeler is an exterior oil on canvas of the Estate of Mrs. Edsel B. Ford,
Grosse Pointe Farms (figure 1) filled with deep, hidden irony. It was painted in 1931, and is based on
a watercolor study. It s a calm, clean, and serene painting that takes your breath away. It s depicting a
place someone would want to be in, a place where things get done, and a place where one can go to
achieve this idea of the American dream. Charles Sheeler used American industry as a major theme of
his art, his work lends itself to an analysis in terms of geometric forms he examines his subject matter
so closely in order to fully understand the composition, the effect, and the design he wants to depict.
Sheeler painted the plant s exterior as an idyll, a beautiful, picturesque scene of the industrial age
booming; however, in reality the United States was in the middle of the worst years of the Great
Depression. Therefore, this painting done in Sheeler s hyper realistic artistic style is not actually
depicting what the factory actually looked like.
He is using his photographs to distort and change the perspective in order to better suit his patrons.
Charles s Sheeler is a commissioned artist. Classical Landscape was commissioned by Edsel Ford in
order to promote the Ford Company and increase the overall feelings toward industrialization . Sheeler
achieved this due to Classical Landscapes light color palette, clean lines, reduced forms, and intense
knowledge of the subject matter, his painting only hints at the machines domination of humankind ,
allowing for viewers to look at the painting and feel comforted by the lack of human presence but not
overwhelmed by it. Sheeler s depiction of industrialization lacked human presence. This was
uncommon at the time, and created a very different effect than other artists did. He focused on the
building in isolation rather than on the hectic activity around the assembly line this switched the focus
form not on the people of America but on the technological advances and the progress America was
making. Looking further into the painting s subject matter, it is intriguing to see that Sheeler chose to
depict something on cite that dealt with the

To start off, a part I did not like about the book was the part about Ove s dad. I felt as though this
complicated the plot a lot and was not necessary to the base of the book. It did not need to be added
into the book because it had no effect to my understanding of what was happening in the book. If
anything it made me more confused because it went back in time, then it came back to the present and
it was confusing what time period we were in at the moment. A good part of the book was when
Parvaneh was becoming friends with Ove because he needed to get out of his daily routine. Ove
needed someone to shake up the life he had been living for many years. I would not recommend this
book to adolescents because the book was confusing at some points and the humor was guided
towards the adults. Personally, I would read another book by Fredrik Backman because the book was
still very well written. I also could understand the book, for the most part. To continue, this book
would be better read by adults because the humor was more guided to that age group. Also, this book
is still relevant today because people do not live forever. We have to learn to move on from the bad
times just like Ove did. When a loved one dies we feel grief, but like Ove we use the people around us
to begin to feel better about what happened to us. In conclusion, this was a good book and I would rate
it three out of five

Sustainable Development Today Essay
Sustainable Development Today
Sustainable Development
The concept of sustainable development has become a major topic among intellectuals from various
fields. Sustainable development has gone through various changes in its definitions and at present
does not have a commonly accepted definition. The origination of the concept of sustainable
development is debatable. In 1974 at a conference on Science and Technology for Human
Development by the World Council of Churches the concept of a sustainable society is believed to
have been first noted. This early concept focused on equitable distribution of scarce resources and the
need for democratic decision making. In 1980 the currently used term of sustainable development

important is the recognition that sustainable development is about the balance of the connected Es,

The health of the earth degrades with the destructive activity of human beings. A recent study by a
group of scientists looked at twenty four different services that the earth s ecosystems provide for
humans, ecosystem services, and found that fifteen of them are in need of desperate help (Gazette 31
March 2005). These services are vital to the survival of both human and nonhuman life and include
filtering water and providing nutrient rich soils and ocean waters. Many of the members of these
various ecosystems are also decreasing in numbers. In a British survey of bird populations found that
in the 200 birds of Britain tracked there was about a 54% population decrease between the 1968 1971
tacking period and the 1988 1991 tacking period. In two other surveys of 254 native plant species
from the same area there was a decrease of about 28% during the past 40 years. Humans are pushing
the sixth mass extinction (Gazette March 19, 2004).
Many people believe that the Sustainable Revolution began with concern for the environment. The
way we portray our relation to the natural world has changed since the times of Thoreau and Emerson.

Sociological Aspects Of Gender Inequality In Boy Meets World
Gender inequality has been in existence for centuries and is still apparent throughout any given
society. This leads up to the topic of feminism, which addresses the issues of systematic
discrimination against women and the belief that men and women should be equal. In countless
television programs, women are commonly sexually harassed and no one generates a remark as well
as society deeming it acceptable without a second thought as they consider it conventional. In order
for the characters of Boy Meets World to grasp the topic of feminism, participant observation was an
effective way for them to serve it. There are numerous sociological components used within this
episode such as participant observation which highlights the theme of feminism within this episode by
displaying how Shawn felt as he responds to the situation that women experience due to the lack of
understanding that men have in this show.
To begin with, Chick Like Me from Boy Meets World commences with Cory Matthews writing funny
jokes for a column for the school paper and is encouraged by Shawn and Topanga to write about
something more meaningful and important. Topanga is seen walking with her friend, Debbie, who is
complaining about how boys only think about one thing as a result of attending several dates and
receiving nothing but physical touches when she just wants to have a meaningful conversation. She is
dismissed by Shawn saying that not all boys are like that without truly understanding the

To A Mouse Analysis
The best laid schemes o mice an men, gang aft agley. Robert Burns states this in his famous poem To a
Mouse, this is believed to have influenced the title of the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck.
The reason this line from the poem influences the novel does not seem apparent at first, but by the end
of the novel it becomes clear. This novel focuses on two friends, Lennie and George who are migrant
workers in the 1930 s during the great depression. They move from ranch to ranch with each other,
which sets them apart from most because they have each other, while the majority of migrant workers
travel alone. George is a small man who is smart and responsible, and takes care of Lennie. Lennie is a
very large, strong, man, but he is very simple minded, as he is a little mentally challenged. Although
Lennie seems intimidating, he is a very nice man and has the mentality of a child. The novel focuses
on the dream that George and Lennie have of getting their own farm. This is a very important
component of the novel, because presumably, it is the idea of George and Lennie s dream that inspired
the novel s title. Steinbeck conveys the message of Robert Burns poem by showing how easily a
dream or plan can be shattered.
George and Lennie talk about their dream of owning a farm near the beginning of the novel, so we can
assume that they have had this dream for quite some time, especially from the detail George includes
when telling Lennie about it. They want to have their

Edward Taylor Prologue Poem Analysis
In Edward Taylor s Prologue he seeks to demonstrate the inferiority of man in respect to God s glory.
Taylor begins his piece by creating a metaphor in which his own subsidiarity to God is described in
terms of physical stature and uniqueness. He then purposefully includes phrases with erroneous meter
and imperfect rhymes to demonstrate that his inferiority extends to his abilities as a writer. Taylor
further attempts to establish his lack of authorial skills by including repetitious words, implying that
he lacks an extensive vocabulary. When combined these tactics serve to support the idea that Edward
Taylor has many shortcomings, both as a human and a poet, especially in comparison to the greatness
of God. Taylor begins demonstrating his meagerness by describing the vast inequity between physical
standing of God and man by employing a metaphor. In this metaphor, Taylor is but a mere Crumb of
Dust in comparison to the glory of God s creation (line 1). This contrast firstly demonstrates Taylor s
inadequacy when examined from a physical perspective; Taylor is but the smallest piece of dust, while
God s glory is, comparatively, almost endless in size and scope. God being larger than Edward Taylor
serves to suggest that God is thus innately superior to Taylor, as greater size implies superiority over
those with smaller builds. Therefore, Taylor is not simply seeking to suggest that God is physically
larger than himself, but instead aiming to use their difference in bodily

Darwin s Theory Of Biological Evolution
Evolution refers to the processes that have transformed life on Earth from its earliest forms to the vast
diversity that characterizes it today (Campbell, 1993). However, a lot of things can change over a
period of time. The Father of Evolution who is known as Charles Darwin, developed the theory of
biological evolution. This theory has long been debated during and after darwin s time. Biological
evolution can be seen through a momentous change in organisms by changing of the genetic
composition. Darwin s theory did not only create a topic of controversy, but it was able to create a way
of understanding life through biological evolution.
The traditional Judeo Christian version of Creationism was strongly reinforced by James ... Show

It had a beginning, but it has no ending. Creation is always busy making new scenes, new things and
new Worlds (Weiner 3). In the bible it states that all living things were created at the hands of God. No
one has ever desired to challenge the Catholic Church of this belief. Until a man by the name of
Charles Darwin discovered the wonders on Daphne Major. After his survey of the island, he concluded
that there was something about the finches beaks that made them unique to each of the islands.
Making meticulous observations of the beaks he saw that each finch had a specific set of beaks. This
allowed them to adapt to a specific niche in their environment. What is more. the tame little birds that
Darwin had found hopping around beneath the bushes were unique too. They were not relatives of
blackbirds, walders, wrens, and finches, as Darwin had thought when he bagged them (Weiner 28).
Darwin speculated about how natural selection is one of the main concepts for biological evolution.
Natural selection consisted of descent with modification, known as a gradual process over time,
heritable biological traits become either more or less common in a population. When the next
generation of that species gains that dominant trait in the population, this is known as descent with
modification. Observing descent with modification is still prominent during that time period.
According to the Variation Lab, natural selection was the driving mechanism for biological evolution.

Notes On Self Assessment Tools
1. Self assessment tools can be found in several places from self help books to magazine articles, and
sometimes make grand and exaggerated claims. What are the advantages and disadvantages of these
self help tools?
Okay to start off, I decided to do a self assessment based on depression. It s only nine questions and it
was closed end; so the answers ranged from, no, not at all , on some days , on more than half the days
, nearly every day .
Here are the nine questions:
1) Have you found little pleasure or interest in doing things?
2) Have you found yourself feeling down, depressed or hopeless?
3) Have you had trouble falling or staying asleep, or sleeping too much?
4) Have you been feeling tired or had little energy?
5) Have you had a poor appetite or been overeating?
6) Have you felt that you re a failure or let yourself or your family down?
7) Have you had some trouble concentrating on things like reading the paper or watching TV?
8) Have you been moving or speaking slowly, or been very fidgety, so that other people could notice?
9) Have you thought that you d be better off dead or hurting yourself in some way? Based on your
responses today it s very likely that you could be suffering from some form of depression but only an
experienced health professional can tell for sure. You should make an appointment to see your GP as
soon as possible or call NHS 111. They will be able to help you and offer some form of treatment.

The Autobiography of Malcom X as Told to Alex Haley Essay
Statement of Purpose
Alex Haley is the author of the book. The central theme of the book is to reflect the perspective of a
black man in an era that called for equality struggles between races in the United States while battling
views on racism and his rise and fall within the Nation of Islam religion.
The author s purpose for writing the book was for the reader to gain knowledge of Malcolm X as an
individual and not as a phenomenon. He wanted to deliver truths that spanned his brief lifetime.
Alex Haley s qualifications to write the book were simply that he was a black man in America during
the same time span as Malcolm X and his earlier work had focused on the struggles of African
Americans in the United States in particular. Haley ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He becomes immersed in the night life and consumed with everything it has to offer. Just shy of being
twenty one he was sent to prison for 10 years. At this pivotal point in his life, he converts to the Black
Muslim religion. The other crucial life altering event took place in 1963 when evidence was
uncovered regarding the Honorable Elijah Mohammad s human frailties and lack of moral character.
This revelation prompted a holy journey that yet again changed Malcolm s thought process that was
evident at the end of his life.
Critique
This autobiography of Malcolm X was spellbinding. The fascinating persona of this man was
phenomenal. As he describes his education in one part of the book, Gentlemen, I finished the eighth
grade in Mason, Michigan. My high school was the black ghetto of Roxbury,
Massachusetts. My college was in the streets of Harlem, and my master s was taken in prison is just
amazing. This book did not contain any illustrations, pictures, or tables. The author was extremely
descriptive in telling the story. His writing style made the reader to become a part of the story telling
experience. I could visualize the experiences and places that were included in the book. For example,
when he told about the conking of his hair, how it felt when his scalp was burning, although it was a
painful experience, it was humorous to me as a reader. I could imagine the lindy hopping dances he
talked about. How he would whirl them around,

On Sunday, November 19, 2017, I visited First Presbyterian Church in Peachtree City for their 11:00
a.m. worship service. The outside of the church is pretty. It looked like how you would expect a
relatively modern church to look like. It had a bell as well. The main doors of the church were open,
and there was a man standing there greeting people as they walked in. I assume this is to make the
church seem welcoming. Upon entering the church, I noticed people were standing around and
talking. Some people were going into what I assumed was the room where the actual service was
going to be taking place. There were more men at this door as well. They were passing out little
booklets for the service. I decided to also go into this room. It was quite large. The first thing I noticed

It was not crowded, and there was a lot of empty spaces in the pews. Most people came with family.
There were many husbands and wives and some had children with them as well. There was a good

people were definitely over the age of 30, but there were also people there who seemed to be younger
than that as well. The races of the attendees was overwhelmingly white, but there were some people of
color in attendance as well. Most of the attendees seemed most likely to be upper middle class because
of the area surrounding the church and also from looking at the cars in the parking lot. Peachtree City
is a mainly wealthy area, so it makes sense that most of the attendees at a church in the town also have
a good bit of money. The congregants were mainly dressed in nice clothing. Women wore dresses,
skirts, or nice pants, and men wore suits or a button down shirt with nice pants. The children were also
dressed nicely for the most part, but some were more casual and had on

Origin Of Forensic Science Essay
ORIGIN AND SERVICES OF FORENSIC SCIENCE
For most people, forensic science means cops and fingerprints and DNA analysis. All of that is still
true, but these days forensic science encompasses much more. Forensic science, also known as
forensics, may generally be defined as the application of scientific, technical, or other specialized
knowledge to assist courts in resolving questions of fact in civil and criminal trials. In other words
forensic science, in its broadest definition, is the application of science to law. Forensic science is
carried out by forensic scientists, whose primary objective is the even handed use of all the available
information to determine the facts and ultimately the truth no matter who they are ... Show more

For example, when a car hits another car, paint from the first car will be deposited on the second one
and vice versa. Similarly, when somebody sits on a chair, fibers from his/her clothing will be
deposited on the chair and fibers from the cloth of the chair will be deposited on the person s clothing.
Although there are different people that can be cited for the start of forensics, many people still
believe that you can solve a case over night like how it s shown on television. Many people like all the
forensic scientist has to do is collect small evidences and presso the case it solved but their job is
much harder in real life then television. A lot of the information seen on television is misleading
because forensic scientists are involved in all aspects of criminal and civil cases as well as among
others, the family courts, immigration and employment tribunals and the results of their work may
serve either the prosecution, defense or either side in a hearing as well as acting more recently as a
single joint expert. Forensic science and the work of the forensic scientist does have an impact on the
number of cases entering our legal system by assisting the decision makers before a case reaches the
court, as the facts developed by the forensic scientist are based on scientific investigation which may
convince the prosecution team that the case does not merit a

How Did Gerald Nye Create A Strong Sense Of Isolationism
At the heart of the Great Depression in the early 1930s, America had remained extremely isolationist.
The United States was focused on domestic issues, and improving the economy with Roosevelt s New
Deal programs. FDR also succeeded in improving America s relations with Latin America in his good
neighbor policy, which renounced armed intervention. Across the globe, various totalitarian regimes
were emerging, such as Mussolini, Stalin, and Hitler. These powerful leaders began to militarize and
expand their borders. The United States sought to stay out of any European affairs, and remain in its
storm cellar . However, in the years leading up to World War II, America s long lasting isolationism
was challenged by growing interventionist sentiment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As early as 1932, the United States began warning Japan about its aggression toward China (Doc. A).
The U.S. claimed they would not recognize new territories because it violated the Kellogg Briand Pact
that made war illegal. They also chose to not recognize new treaties as the open door policy with
China was violated. FDR would later deliver his famous Quarantine Speech regarding the Japanese
invasion of China in which he encouraged the peace loving nations to take action against military
expansionism (Doc. 1). FDR also called for a quarantine of Japan through economic embargoes. At
this point, Roosevelt is still staying neutral, but is putting emphasis on morally siding against fascist
nations. This speech was the first action that ticked the isolationists off, as FDR seemed to be hinting
towards internationalism. Later that year, Japan would go on to sink an American gunboat, the Panay.
Japan quickly apologized and neutrality was kept once again. After war broke out and France quickly
fell, Britain was desperate for help. Roosevelt responded by trading 50 destroyers for eight valuable
bases, a negotiation known as the Destroyer Deal (Doc. 2). This was Roosevelt s first step away from
neutrality, and he wasn t stopping there. After shattering the two term tradition in the Election of 1940,
Roosevelt went on to pass the Lend Lease Act. This stated

Argumentative Essay Boxing
Boxing a violent cage fight, or a crowd pleasing sport? Boxing is a high intensified sport that can be
seen as helping the fighter in life or permanently damaging the fighters future. Many say that boxing
is one of the safest sports; however, boxing can leave permanent brain damage from constant punches
to the skull. The sport boxing is for managers to earn money while their fighter is in the ring fighting
against another human until one gives up, or gets knocked out. A fight could be the end of one s
career, or even one s life. Boxing should be banned because the money earned does not trump the risk
of death, the mixed messages from fighters in the ring confuse the laws regarding assault, and the
constant punches to and athletes head leaves permanent damage. The death of one is not worth the
money earned from winning a fight. This is important to realize because the expense of one s life is
worth way more than the winnings of a cage fight. In On Boxing, Joyce asserts directly why she
thinks boxing is not a humanized sport: In the boxing ring, even in our greatly humanized times, death
is always a possibility which is why some of us prefer to watch films or tapes of fights already past,
already defined as history (source c). Joyce is stating that many watch tapes from the past when
boxing first started because it was much safer then, than it is now. Also in On Boxing, Carol states
directly her opinion for the sport boxing: In no other sport can so much take

  • 2. The Right Of Privacy And Protection From Government... The right to privacy and protection from government abusing power has been a debatable topic for centuries. Many American people struggled for years, arguing in courts, and proving their right to privacy and protection. It is the fourth amendment that clearly states, The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated ... So shouldn t the government refrain from violating this rule? Not according to the FBI. In December 2015, the FBI recovered an iPhone (Apple Inc. cellphone product) at the crime scene of a mass shooting in San Bernardino, California. The iPhone was claim to belong to one of the terrorists involved in the attack. The FBI has contacted Apple requesting that the company disables the security feature on the iPhone they obtained at the crime scene. Apple declines the requests with the thought of its customer s privacy in mind. Even though the FBI does have probably cause, forcing the company to comply to their request will contradict Apple s privacy policies that are insured to their customers. Should the government be allowed to force Apple to betray their customers? As of March last year, an estimate total of 94 million iPhones was in use in the United States. That is potentially more or less of 94 million Apples customers that could experience the effects over one iPhone dispute. • 13. Literary Analysis Of Classical Landscape By Charles Sheeler Classical landscape by Charles Sheeler is an exterior oil on canvas of the Estate of Mrs. Edsel B. Ford, Grosse Pointe Farms (figure 1) filled with deep, hidden irony. It was painted in 1931, and is based on a watercolor study. It s a calm, clean, and serene painting that takes your breath away. It s depicting a place someone would want to be in, a place where things get done, and a place where one can go to achieve this idea of the American dream. Charles Sheeler used American industry as a major theme of his art, his work lends itself to an analysis in terms of geometric forms he examines his subject matter so closely in order to fully understand the composition, the effect, and the design he wants to depict. Sheeler painted the plant s exterior as an idyll, a beautiful, picturesque scene of the industrial age booming; however, in reality the United States was in the middle of the worst years of the Great Depression. Therefore, this painting done in Sheeler s hyper realistic artistic style is not actually depicting what the factory actually looked like. He is using his photographs to distort and change the perspective in order to better suit his patrons. Charles s Sheeler is a commissioned artist. Classical Landscape was commissioned by Edsel Ford in order to promote the Ford Company and increase the overall feelings toward industrialization . Sheeler achieved this due to Classical Landscapes light color palette, clean lines, reduced forms, and intense knowledge of the subject matter, his painting only hints at the machines domination of humankind , allowing for viewers to look at the painting and feel comforted by the lack of human presence but not overwhelmed by it. Sheeler s depiction of industrialization lacked human presence. This was uncommon at the time, and created a very different effect than other artists did. He focused on the building in isolation rather than on the hectic activity around the assembly line this switched the focus form not on the people of America but on the technological advances and the progress America was making. Looking further into the painting s subject matter, it is intriguing to see that Sheeler chose to depict something on cite that dealt with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Sociological Aspects Of Gender Inequality In Boy Meets World Gender inequality has been in existence for centuries and is still apparent throughout any given society. This leads up to the topic of feminism, which addresses the issues of systematic discrimination against women and the belief that men and women should be equal. In countless television programs, women are commonly sexually harassed and no one generates a remark as well as society deeming it acceptable without a second thought as they consider it conventional. In order for the characters of Boy Meets World to grasp the topic of feminism, participant observation was an effective way for them to serve it. There are numerous sociological components used within this episode such as participant observation which highlights the theme of feminism within this episode by displaying how Shawn felt as he responds to the situation that women experience due to the lack of understanding that men have in this show. To begin with, Chick Like Me from Boy Meets World commences with Cory Matthews writing funny jokes for a column for the school paper and is encouraged by Shawn and Topanga to write about something more meaningful and important. Topanga is seen walking with her friend, Debbie, who is complaining about how boys only think about one thing as a result of attending several dates and receiving nothing but physical touches when she just wants to have a meaningful conversation. She is dismissed by Shawn saying that not all boys are like that without truly understanding the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 23. To A Mouse Analysis The best laid schemes o mice an men, gang aft agley. Robert Burns states this in his famous poem To a Mouse, this is believed to have influenced the title of the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. The reason this line from the poem influences the novel does not seem apparent at first, but by the end of the novel it becomes clear. This novel focuses on two friends, Lennie and George who are migrant workers in the 1930 s during the great depression. They move from ranch to ranch with each other, which sets them apart from most because they have each other, while the majority of migrant workers travel alone. George is a small man who is smart and responsible, and takes care of Lennie. Lennie is a very large, strong, man, but he is very simple minded, as he is a little mentally challenged. Although Lennie seems intimidating, he is a very nice man and has the mentality of a child. The novel focuses on the dream that George and Lennie have of getting their own farm. This is a very important component of the novel, because presumably, it is the idea of George and Lennie s dream that inspired the novel s title. Steinbeck conveys the message of Robert Burns poem by showing how easily a dream or plan can be shattered. George and Lennie talk about their dream of owning a farm near the beginning of the novel, so we can assume that they have had this dream for quite some time, especially from the detail George includes when telling Lennie about it. • 25. Edward Taylor Prologue Poem Analysis In Edward Taylor s Prologue he seeks to demonstrate the inferiority of man in respect to God s glory. Taylor begins his piece by creating a metaphor in which his own subsidiarity to God is described in terms of physical stature and uniqueness. He then purposefully includes phrases with erroneous meter and imperfect rhymes to demonstrate that his inferiority extends to his abilities as a writer. Taylor further attempts to establish his lack of authorial skills by including repetitious words, implying that he lacks an extensive vocabulary. When combined these tactics serve to support the idea that Edward Taylor has many shortcomings, both as a human and a poet, especially in comparison to the greatness of God. Taylor begins demonstrating his meagerness by describing the vast inequity between physical standing of God and man by employing a metaphor. In this metaphor, Taylor is but a mere Crumb of Dust in comparison to the glory of God s creation (line 1). This contrast firstly demonstrates Taylor s inadequacy when examined from a physical perspective; Taylor is but the smallest piece of dust, while God s glory is, comparatively, almost endless in size and scope. God being larger than Edward Taylor serves to suggest that God is thus innately superior to Taylor, as greater size implies superiority over those with smaller builds. Therefore, Taylor is not simply seeking to suggest that God is physically larger than himself, but instead aiming to use their difference in bodily ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 27. Darwin s Theory Of Biological Evolution Evolution refers to the processes that have transformed life on Earth from its earliest forms to the vast diversity that characterizes it today (Campbell, 1993). However, a lot of things can change over a period of time. The Father of Evolution who is known as Charles Darwin, developed the theory of biological evolution. This theory has long been debated during and after darwin s time. Biological evolution can be seen through a momentous change in organisms by changing of the genetic composition. Darwin s theory did not only create a topic of controversy, but it was able to create a way of understanding life through biological evolution. The traditional Judeo Christian version of Creationism was strongly reinforced by James ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It had a beginning, but it has no ending. Creation is always busy making new scenes, new things and new Worlds (Weiner 3). In the bible it states that all living things were created at the hands of God. No one has ever desired to challenge the Catholic Church of this belief. Until a man by the name of Charles Darwin discovered the wonders on Daphne Major. After his survey of the island, he concluded that there was something about the finches beaks that made them unique to each of the islands. Making meticulous observations of the beaks he saw that each finch had a specific set of beaks. This allowed them to adapt to a specific niche in their environment. What is more. the tame little birds that Darwin had found hopping around beneath the bushes were unique too. They were not relatives of blackbirds, walders, wrens, and finches, as Darwin had thought when he bagged them (Weiner 28). Darwin speculated about how natural selection is one of the main concepts for biological evolution. Natural selection consisted of descent with modification, known as a gradual process over time, heritable biological traits become either more or less common in a population. When the next generation of that species gains that dominant trait in the population, this is known as descent with modification. Observing descent with modification is still prominent during that time period. According to the Variation Lab, natural selection was the driving mechanism for biological evolution. ... The central theme of the book is to reflect the perspective of a black man in an era that called for equality struggles between races in the United States while battling views on racism and his rise and fall within the Nation of Islam religion. The author s purpose for writing the book was for the reader to gain knowledge of Malcolm X as an individual and not as a phenomenon. He wanted to deliver truths that spanned his brief lifetime. This revelation prompted a holy journey that yet again changed Malcolm s thought process that was evident at the end of his life. Critique This autobiography of Malcolm X was spellbinding. The main doors of the church were open, and there was a man standing there greeting people as they walked in. I assume this is to make the church seem welcoming. Although there are different people that can be cited for the start of forensics, many people still believe that you can solve a case over night like how it s shown on television. Many people like all the forensic scientist has to do is collect small evidences and presso the case it solved but their job is much harder in real life then television. A lot of the information seen on television is misleading because forensic scientists are involved in all aspects of criminal and civil cases as well as among others, the family courts, immigration and employment tribunals and the results of their work may serve either the prosecution, defense or either side in a hearing as well as acting more recently as a single joint expert. The United States was focused on domestic issues, and improving the economy with Roosevelt s New Deal programs. FDR also succeeded in improving America s relations with Latin America in his good neighbor policy, which renounced armed intervention. Across the globe, various totalitarian regimes were emerging, such as Mussolini, Stalin, and Hitler. These powerful leaders began to militarize and expand their borders. As early as 1932, the United States began warning Japan about its aggression toward China (Doc. A). The U.S. claimed they would not recognize new territories because it violated the Kellogg Briand Pact that made war illegal. They also chose to not recognize new treaties as the open door policy with China was violated. FDR would later deliver his famous Quarantine Speech regarding the Japanese invasion of China in which he encouraged the peace loving nations to take action against military expansionism (Doc. 1). FDR also called for a quarantine of Japan through economic embargoes. At this point, Roosevelt is still staying neutral, but is putting emphasis on morally siding against fascist nations. This speech was the first action that ticked the isolationists off, as FDR seemed to be hinting towards internationalism. Later that year, Japan would go on to sink an American gunboat, the Panay. Japan quickly apologized and neutrality was kept once again. After war broke out and France quickly fell, Britain was desperate for help. Roosevelt responded by trading 50 destroyers for eight valuable bases, a negotiation known as the Destroyer Deal (Doc. 2). • 33. Argumentative Essay Boxing Boxing a violent cage fight, or a crowd pleasing sport? Boxing is a high intensified sport that can be seen as helping the fighter in life or permanently damaging the fighters future. Many say that boxing is one of the safest sports; however, boxing can leave permanent brain damage from constant punches to the skull. The sport boxing is for managers to earn money while their fighter is in the ring fighting against another human until one gives up, or gets knocked out. A fight could be the end of one s career, or even one s life. Boxing should be banned because the money earned does not trump the risk of death, the mixed messages from fighters in the ring confuse the laws regarding assault, and the constant punches to and athletes head leaves permanent damage. The death of one is not worth the money earned from winning a fight. This is important to realize because the expense of one s life is worth way more than the winnings of a cage fight. In On Boxing, Joyce asserts directly why she thinks boxing is not a humanized sport: In the boxing ring, even in our greatly humanized times, death is always a possibility which is why some of us prefer to watch films or tapes of fights already past, already defined as history (source c). Joyce is stating that many watch tapes from the past when boxing first started because it was much safer then, than it is now.
