Enlightenment Impact On Enlightenment
Science and Culture, a Significant Impact on Enlightenment Era
The Age of Enlightenment, also known as the Age of Reason occurred during the 18th and 19th
centuries. It was a time when European politics, philosophy, science, and communications changed
the way people embraced the fact that humanity could be improved through rational change. The
Age of Enlightenment was a time of growth and change. It paved the way for major advancements
in technology, as well as the way people viewed life. New ideas circulated, and Europe began to
change as people questioned God s place and began to reposition their Christian faith. From the
early age of Enlightenment to the peak, the Enlightenment era had a significant impact on
economics, and politics, and religion. Ultimately, the impact that the Enlightenment periods had
influencing economics, politics and religion, created a culture influenced by science and change
that jump started a new Era. The culture change and scientific advancement created during the Age
of Enlightenment created a remarkable turning point in European history as scientists such as Isaac
Newton and writer John Locke, and female activists Mary Wollstonecraft questioned the status
queue and powerfully motivated change.
Impact of Science
Science began to make an impact during the Age of Enlightenment at the start. In the late 17th
century, scientist such as Isaac Newton and writers like John Locke began to question the old
order. People who were once believers of

Perks Of Being A Wallflower Reflection
The summer before 7th grade I was introduced to the movie, Perks Of Being A Wallflower, by
Stephen Chbosky. I label this movie the most influential piece of art that I have ever been
exposed to as it allowed me to familiarize myself with characters who held traits I d recognized in
myself long before but hadn t gotten the opportunity to learn. The movie followed an incoming
high school freshman, Charlie, and a group of outcast seniors he befriended Sam, Patrick, Mary
Elizabeth, and Alice all of whom, were characters who helped shape me into the person I am today.
Gay. I had heard the word before when I was younger, maybe eight or nine years old, from a sixth
grader who had been spewing forbidden words left and right. I remember asking them ... Show

Instead of only watching the movie because I wanted a sense comfort I had struggled in finding
before, I watched it with a more mature mindframe. One of the key components in Perks Of Being
A Wallflower is the Rocky Horror Picture Show. In the movie the characters put on a live
performance of Rocky Horror weekly. The show plays a big part in some of the characters lives
and it started to play a huge role in mine once I payed more attention to it. The more I watched
and listened to the story the more I was intrigued. Rocky Horror brought on a lot of firsts for me.
It was the first musical I had watched all the way through and enjoyed everything I saw. This
lead me to find some of my favorite shows and movies today, like RENT and Glee. Rocky Horror
also introduced me to the first transgender character I d ever seen. Granted, Dr. Frank N Furter
probably wasn t the best role model for a fourteen year old, but I was mesmerized by the sheer
existence of a happy community existing of people who were outcasts and shunned away from
society. Rocky Horror also showed in depth how people can change when exposed to new things.
Rocky Horror Picture Show starts with a conservative couple, Brad and Janet, who are terrified to
be anywhere around a house full of transgender people and by the end of it they come out non
judgemental and tolerant. It s a prime example of how you can shift someone who

Workforce Planning Paper
Workforce Planning prior to implementing actions to increase diversity in the IT department, it s
necessary to evaluate the diversity and characteristics of the current team to establish the best fit ,
such as the strengths of the department, the challenges, and how to build on the strengths and
address the challenges to create a diverse work environment (Harvard University, 2016). In
evaluating the current system, there must be a consideration on whether the future positions or job
categories are underutilized for women, minorities, or both as it pertains to the Equal Employment
Opportunity Commission (NC State University, 2011). In essence, the identification of CML s core
capabilities and the current and anticipated work demand along with... Show more content on

For example, the largest accumulation of IT personnel, Silicon Valley, lacks in diversity of
women and minorities and is largely dominated by Caucasian males (Rodriguez, 2015). As a
result, there might be a lack of diverse individuals to choose from when reaching the recruitment
phase of the project. In addition, the evaluation phase of the diversity project would take the time
to complete, since it assesses many aspects of the organization to gather a complete image of the
issue. However, the strategic workforce planning supports the overall CML mission to provide
excellent service and improve the efficiency of the organization through maximizing the workforce
potential (Klingner et al., 2010).
Rating: On a scale of 1 10, this recommendation receives a 10 because the implementation of
position management assists the employees with job descriptions the necessary skills and
qualifications to motivate them and complete their tasks. Additionally, the analytical approach to
workforce planning provides a fact based method to understanding the behaviors of the environment
and the people. In reviewing the culture of the IT department, it exposes the turnover patterns and
causes of the lack of diversity, which will assist the library in hiring and retaining the IT

Essay on The Most Common Types of Systems Access Controls
The most common types of systems access controls
Access control requires unique user identification, emergency access procedure, automatic log off,
and encryption and decryption of data. In order to maintain confidentiality, integrity and availability
of data, it is important to control access to the information system. Controls prevent unauthorized
users from accessing the system and/or altering data. They also prevent authorized users from
making unauthorized changes to data. Some common examples are User based, Role based and
Context based access control with the strongest security on Context based access control.
Controls placed on access are categorized in three ways: preventive, detective, or corrective. The

Inadequately secured wireless communication
Wireless security isn t just a big issue for control systems, but for all uses, mainly because wireless
is becoming so pervasive, says Staggs. It s very easy to plug wireless in almost anywhere. However,
you have to be able to find the signals and know if someone has put in a rogue point.
Before installing wireless, it s important to do a complete assessment to identify the best areas for
wireless use and ensure that leakage out of the plant is minimized. There will be a wireless
leakage when you have transmitters or wireless enabled workers walking around with tablet PCs or
handheld devices. Those devices may be transmitting in an area outside a plant.
Solution can be separation by segmenting the wireless networks from the rest of the control
network. Additionally, it is strongly advisable to secure wireless access methods to include
requiring authentication and enforcing strict access controls for communications leading from the
wireless network into the rest of the control network.

Fuel Economy Regulations
Fuel Economy Regulations are Crushing the Economy In 1975, the United States government
passed the first round of regulations on fuel economy for private passenger vehicles. The
corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards were intended to gradually increase the
average fuel economy of consumer vehicles in an attempt to reduce the release of the global
warming gas carbon dioxide, as well as reduce the United Statesdependence on foreign oil
reserves. This action originally seemed to be very effective at slowly improving the efficiency of
cars and light trucks, but the bill s period of usefulness has since expired. When President of the
United States, Barack Obama raised the fuel economy mandates via executive order to 54.5 miles
per gallon... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sale of many cars that help companies comply with efficiency standards have remained very
minimal, because consumers do not want these less functional or comfortable products. In
January of 2015, the General Motors Company sold only 542 all electric Chevy Volts, out of 1.5
million total sales (Matthews). As vehicles are forced to achieve higher fuel standards, many
cars are forced to get smaller, which sacrifices areas such as comfort and utility in many of
America s cars, and consumers simply are not buying this. This lack of desire for fuel efficient
vehicles shows that the government, with its fuel efficiency mandates, working against the
majority opinion of the people. Also, over the years since CAFE standards were first put in
place, the sales of large cars and SUVs has risen dramatically, reaching 2.9 million of 4.9 million
total car sales in 2011 (Gardner). These large, heavy, high fuel consumption vehicles make it much
more difficult for auto companies to comply with the minimum fuel economy. Even though this
increase in the sale of low efficiency vehicles, average fuel economy has gone dramatically up, and
has, for all years, been somewhat higher than CAFE minimums (ANWYL). This shows that there is
still consumer desire to have fuel efficient vehicles, but it is not a top concern

Management Styles In Management
Every person brings a new management style with them to the positions. However, not all
managing styles are effective for a well ran organization with good employees. Some aspects of a
good manager are one who empowers their employees, motivates them, and in today s work
climate protect the staff from bullies. Along with personal issues that managers deal with in
libraries, new technologies are introduced quickly. Managers are responsible for staff training on
the new technology and creating new policies for the technology. Empowerment is one the most
important things that a manager can give to their employee. Sahoo, Behera, and Tripathy found
that employees who feel empowered are happier, do a better job, and they are more loyal to the...

manager I want to provide my employees with a work environment that is safe from bullies.
Bullying can lead to staff absenteeism, depression, and high employee turnover (). Strong leadership
and clearly defined job descriptions are two things a manager can do to prevent bullying in the
library (). Another thing a manager can do is create an environment where aggressive behavior is
not accepted (). Situations where employees are experiencing heavier than usual workload or if
the organization is restructuring can lead to bullying behaviors. As a manager these are time I
need to be extra vigilant. Postorek, Contacos Sawyer, and Thomas suggest that organizations make
very clear in their policies what constitutes aggressive behavior. Also all staff member will know
the steps in reporting and the disciplining of the bully. An important tip they give is for hiring new
staff members. They suggest that when checking references to ask about aggressive behaviors so

The Scapegoat In Shirley Jackson s The Lottery
Numerous critics have carefully discussed Shirley Jackson s The Lottery in terms of the scapegoat
traditions of anthropology and literature, pointing out its obvious comment on the innate savagery
of man lurking beneath his civilized trappings. Most acknowledge the power of the story, admitting
that the psychological shock of the ritual murder in an atmosphere of modern, small town normality
cannot be easily forgotten. Nevertheless, beneath the praise of these critics frequently runs a
current of uneasiness a sense of having been defrauded n some way by the development of the
story on a whole.

Opium War
There were two Opium Wars. The first one was from 1839 1842. This war was fought between
China and Britain. This war was fought over the two not seeing eye to eye on a lot of things.
The second Opium War was from 1856 1860. In this war the British forces fought toward the
legalization of the Opium trade. The reason they did this was to be able to expand coolie trace, to
be able to open all of China to British merchants, and also to be able to expand foreign imports
from internat transit duties. This was when France then joined the British. In this essay we are
going to cover both of the Opium Wars.

Sao Paulo Research Paper
Sao Paulo is a megalopoly, has around 19 million inhabitants, with its mobility issues around 7
million cars and poor public transport infrastructure. The real estate speculation made the city
grow with hardly any urban planning and very few and far apart parks. Green areas were seen and
reserved to leisure time and not a necessary part for the citythe lack of contact with nature and it is
evident there.
The fact is almost no one know there is urban agriculture in Sao Paulo, even with its many
problems few initiatives are dotted around the city. The difference there is, while in developed
countries urban farming is somewhat seen as a new back to nature trend, in developing countries
and places like Sao Paulo this trend goes beyond that: it provides a vital source of nutrition and

Full Range Leadership Development Paper
Full Range Leadership Development (FRLD) and effective communication plays an essential
role in employee satisfaction and is linked to productivity and the financial success of an
organization. Dissatisfaction can result in people providing less attention to care in their job
performance and eventually quitting. According to (Daft, 2012) One secret for the success in
organization is motivated and engaged employees (p.451). Motivated employees are very
important for the success of the project, unmotivated employees are unlikely to work hard or to
be productive when compared to motivated employees. According to (DeRosa, 2010) Treat
people as you expect to be treated (p.73). Example; we should provide monetary rewards, like gift
cards or praising them for their efforts in front of their peers like in a huddle or in meetings.
Successful leaders use a variety of methods to motivate and lead the individuals they are

Fitting In Short Story
During HP English I have read four different short stories by various authors. These stories have
many differences like race, gender, age, and social class. But even thought there are many
differences in the stories, the biggest similarity they all share is that all four stories are about
fitting in the American society. This is an important theme to me since I am starting as a first
generation college freshman at Saint Mary s. So coming into this new school I will have to learn
how to fit in with the society of the school just as the characters in each of the four stories try to fit
in their own environment. Everyone has to go through some type of fitting in when they enter a
new environment. But how a person reacts to the process of fitting... Show more content on

Even though Cisneros is a successful writer, all she wanted was to fit in with her father and 6

Women of the Civil War
The Civil War is a very important part of American history simply put, it determined what kind of
nation the United States would be. The Civil War resolved whether the United States is what
determined the survival of the Union or whether the Confederacy would gain independence. It is
the battle that determined whether the largest slaveholding country in the world would continue to
exist as such since it thrived on the fundamental idea that all men are created with an equal right
to liberty. Many men were drafted and put their lives on the line during the war to fight for the

Other women would serve as spies for the states or work as nurses on the battlefields. Many
women, however, took on roles at home while their husbands, fathers, sons and brothers left to
fight in the war. Free women were not the only women individuals affected by the war. It was the
war that was fighting for the freedom of slaves and thousands of enslaved women began
transitioning to being a free woman. Women played many roles during this time and refused to sit
waiting for the men in their lives to come back home from battle. No matter what roles/duties they
took on, it redefined the traditional role of a housewife and mother than women normally played
and their importance in the war effort was very significant.
It is speculated that there were hundreds of women that served as spies for both sides during the
Civil War. What these women would do was gather valuable information from the military by
flirting with male soldiers. They smuggled supplies, medicine, and ammunition across enemy line
by hiding everything underneath their skirts. A Confederate spy named Emeline Pigott would
gather information by entertaining Union soldiers at parties she held in her own home. She would
pass this information along to the Confederate army by leaving secret messages in hiding spots or
by crossing enemy lines and delivering messages by hand. However, not many women spies would

Evil Vs. Good And Evil
Evil vs. Good Which One Shall Gain Control?
Good and evil are a contradiction that works together. What I mean by this
statement is that although good and evil are two very separate things, they could not exist
without each other. Good is anything of which can be morally right. Evil is anything of
profound wickedness. They are very different, aren t they? Now, read a newspaper, listen
to a story, or turn on the news. It is not definite, but you most likely will hear about an
occurrence that caused someone harm. Nowadays, people mostly hear about slashing in
the streets, kidnappings, murders, and so many more gruesome things. These are all
examples of evil. Now, listen some more. In some cases, there are heroes, who protect
people from these tragic events. And, since heroes are doing good, while criminals are
doing bad, they sort of are working together.
I am not at all saying that bad things are really considered something we need in
our lives. For example, wouldn t it be so much better for kids to walk to school not in
fear that because they live in a shady neighborhood, they might get hurt? Or wouldn t we
all be happy if robbers did not exist and we would not have to lock almost everything we
own? Well, we would be happier, but there is very little way to stop evil, even in one
city! There is a population of approximately seven billion people in the world, so even
one city would be insanely difficult to protect. The truth is, there are so

Nuclear Energy Synthesis Essay
Across the United States 104 nuclear reactors generate around 20% of the nation s electricity.
While worldwide 436 nuclear reactors generate about 15% of the world s supply every year

nuclear power production. Nuclear energy may be one of the best ways to combat global warming
and reduce CO2 emissions, however if the radiation and nuclear waste that it produces is better for
our environment than the CO2 is still uncertain. In the United States the nuclear powerplants use
uranium235 as the nuclear fuel to produce energy. Most of the uranium that the United States uses

The Drover Wife And The Chosen Vessel By Barbara Baynton
Throughout history, Australian has always been perceived as a land of men. This is due to the
colonization of Australian during the eighteen and nineteen century, where men are seen inferior to
women. They also are domesticated within the house duties that the society has influence because
of their gender. Although, Henry Lawson the drover wife and The Chosen Vessel by Barbara
Baynton challenges the Australian society through Australian literature by placing women in harsh
environments. The drover wife is short stories about women who face the new obsolesce while
living within the harsh environments. The Chosen Vessel has a similar aspect of the drover wife
but the lead female experience the harness of the environment, which lead to her death. Both
women display their own straights and heroics while facing their fears, through their selfless action.
They are both portrayed of women of the bush but their fate had stored different outcome for both
women. This essay will examine both the drover wife and the chosen vessel both contain a simple
plot, but it expands on many issues of gender expectation and domesticated within the household

Research Paper On Russian Culture
Russian Culture: A look at its Religion and Art
Mankind has always aspired to be the largest, biggest, strongest, highest, essentially the best in
everything. This is not untrue for the Russians who have had the largest country in the world for
quite some time now. Russia covers one sixth of the entire world s land mass and has had a
significant part in modern history. However, in order to understand why a country has become what
it is now, one must look at its culture. A country s culture not only reflects its citizens now but also
its history and future.
Many things reflect Russia s diverse culture but two main things are art and the church.
Like many other countries, the church has played a great role in the formation of ... Show more

Other religious groups that inhabit Russia include the Muslims, Jews, Protestants, Catholics, and
Buddhists. The Muslims form the second largest religious group in Russia. They are concentrated
mostly in the ethnic republics of Tartarstan and Bashkortostan in the middle Volga region, and in
the republics of Chechnya, Ingushetia, Alania (North Ossetia), Kabardino Balkaria, and Dagestan.
The Jews and Christians are dispersed throughout the country and the Buddhists live chiefly in the
republics of Buryatia and Tuva on the Russian border with Mongolia and in Kalmykia on the
northwest shore of the Caspian Sea. (Microsoft Encarta)
Religion as one can clearly see had a direct impact on the Russian people but it also had a direct
influence on Russian art. Since art is a reflection of every culture, it is important that one studies it
when one is studying another culture.
The introduction of Christianity into Russia spurred the development of the country s fine arts. For
600 years, Christian forms of art dominated Russian painting, music, architecture, and literature.
Russian artists, however, applied their unique vision and dramatically altered the style imported so
it became their own. Especially in painting, the blending of foreign influences with native genius
produced some of the world s most beautiful icons. In the early 15th century Andrey Rublyov, one

The Bloody Chamber Analysis
The gothic genre is a style of writing that is characterized by components of horror, disquietude,
death and romance. There are many conventions to the gothic genre which indulges details on
gothic architecture, spirituality and lucid descriptions in the first person along with dialogues. It is
widely accepted that both the novella, Carmilla and the short stories from The Bloody Chamber
include these aspects of gothic literature. Patriarchal dominance is often defined as a system of
male domination and in gothic fictionit is traditional for the male to in fact save the weak and
fragile female out of danger; further dominating his role. Although Carmilla was written during
the Victorian Era, one would aspect a male dominated patriarchal system to be followed, but Le
Fanu doesn t succumb to the traditional but in fact subverts it by casting the villain as female
who preys on young and vulnerable women ultimately for power. However, where Carmilla does
indeed follow the traditional gothic horror narrative where the victims are always presented as
succumbing to a temptation that inevitably, has metaphysical consequences; in Carmilla the
victims die from an unknown malady. The Bloody Chamber reviews on how unimpeachable fairy
tales encompass strong socio political undertones such as gender roles and presents the nameless
heroine as woman whom is capable of changing her fate, whereby she doesn t die like the other
wives. Similarly, in Carmilla it can also be

The First Seminole War
The First Seminole War was the first of three conflicts in the early 19th century that involved the
United States Army and the Seminole population in Florida. At the time, Florida was still under
the control of Spain. Most of its population consisted of the Seminole Native Americans and
African Americans. The dates of the First Seminole War are debated but most believe that it
occurred between 1816 and 1818. This war took place after the War of 1812and tensions were still
high between the United States, Spain, and Great Britain. Spain still had control of Florida, but
they didn t do a good job of enforcing the borders (Mahon, 1998). In 1812, a fort was built near the
Apalachicola River in Florida. This was used as a strategic point during the conflict and tried to
recruit Seminoles into the American army.
After the War of 1812 was over, the fort built near the Apalachicola River was taken over by
African Americans and was then deemed the Negro fort. The people in neighboring states were
outraged by this and couldn t believe it really existed. General Andrew Jackson wanted this fort to
be gone and threatened Spain about it. Soon after, Fort Scott was built right above the Florida
border in response to the Negro fort. It was put there so the American troops could watch over what
was happening in Florida. The indigenous people, the Seminoles, still very much inhabited the area
and didn t like this.
In 1816, a supply ship that was transferring equipment to Fort Scott was

Brain Tumors
Brain tumors are devastating depending on their malignancy and also their propensity to cause
neurological deficits which may cause permanent disability. Malignant brain tumors can occur at all
ages [1 2] and are associated with poor prognosis. Surgery forms the mainstay of treatment for brain
tumors [2 5]. It is well known that significant tumordecompression is associated with a relatively
favourable prognosis [6 10]. An important challenge in braintumor surgery is the accurate
recognition of the tumor existence and positioning [11]. The tumor positioning has an unique
importance in brain tumorsurgery. Tumors in the brain are surrounded by normal brain tissue. The
lesions which are sited within the substance of the brain are called intra axial tumors. Those in
close proximity of the brain, but displace brain tissue are called extra axial tumors. Even extra axial
tumors may invade brain tissue. In both cases, the functioning brain tissue surrounds the tumor.
Various preoperative and intraoperative techniques have been utilized in neurosurgery for detection
and marking of the brain tumor position. The tumor boundary is defined by the operating surgeon

The Dissimilarity Between Working Mother And Stay Home Mother

ENGL 1102

The Dissimilarity between Working Mother and stay home Mother During the early years of the
1900 s most women were not allowed to work, they also did not have any rights to vote. All the
women during these times could only stay inside the house and take care of the familial duties
and chores. Women were primarily cooking meals, cleaning inside the house, and also taking care
of their own child. On the other hand, most of the men were kings in the household who were in
charge as they are the main source of income for making money. Most of the kids growing up
during this time period ensured to consume a strong family background because the marriage was
everlasting one. Back in the day, the maximum of divorce rates was very low compared to a
present day, as of now, but how is that the divorce rates are high in the present today? That is
because of the authorization in the 19th Amendment which were giving women right to vote, as
they became more self governing (Harris). Women did not just want to cook, and clean working
as a house wife at home any longer, but however women desired to have a job outside just like
their husband earning all the money and have a nice working life. They wanted to challenge
themselves as they wish to follow their husbands footsteps, to prove that women can also do just
like how the men does. Even though how women began to work and women equal rights movement

Cultural Context Of Immigrants And Refugees
My Experience with the Cultural Context of Immigrants and Refugees Description of Context
The cultural immersion for the immigrants and refugees group is taken from a first hand
experience with a family from hurricane Katerina. Livingston, Alabama is right off the
interstate 59/20, which a main evacuation route from the gulf coast. When hurricane Katerina hit
in 2005, several families found comfort in our small town. I was able to form a relationship
with a family that occupied one of my friend s homes. The family was from the New Orleans
area. The family had three children. Majority of their belonging were left at home. The only
things the large family was able to bring was what could fit in one car. The oldest daughter
joined my sixth grade class. Experience Modality In 2005, a category 5 hurricane hit the gulf
coast, New Orleans, Biloxi, and Gulf Shores. This hurricane was well known before it actually
landed in the shore. Families had limited time to pack up their belonging and move in shore.
Livingston, Alabama was on the evacuation route for one family. This family made Livingston
their new home for about a year. They had communication with their community back home. They
had all intentions to move back to their home, but decided to state their new life in a different

An Buyer Owner Of The Land
Heidi
Heidi does not have a legal interest in Whitegates as Alex is the sole owner of the land. What must
be established is whether she has an equitable interest in Whitegates that will bind the purchaser
Molly.
The express creation of a trust is not the only method to create a trust. Trusts can be created by
the action of the landowner or by third parties. Heidi acquires an equitable interest in the land
under implied trust due to the deposit she made when Alex purchased the property (Williams
Glynn Bank v Boland (1981) AC 487). When this happens no formalities are imposed such as
registration of the interest (S. 53(2) Law of property Act 1925).
Having established that Heidi has an equitable interest in the property it must be determined how
this interest affects Molly s purchase of the property.
The Land Registration Act 2002 established three categories of third party interests. One of these
categories covers unregistered interests in land which are capable of overriding registered
dispositions such as the purchase of freehold. Heidi s circumstance would be relevant to this
category as her interest is unregistered.
In order to establish whether Heidi has an overriding interest in the property schedule three
paragraph 2 of the Land Registration Act 2002 must be satisfied.
Firstly there must be interest in the land. Heidi s equitable interest has been established by her
contribution to the purchase of the property.
Secondly, Heidi must be in actual occupation

Comparing the Intelligence of Women in Shelley s...
Intelligence of Women in Shelley s Frankenstein and Gould s Women s Brains
Throughout history, women have always aimed for a recognized place in society. Centuries ago,
people looked at the role of women in society as being sociologically inferior. Seeing the revival of
the Feminist movement, which boldly opposes the stereotypical characteristics of women in society,
on one hand, and promotes the elevation of women s status in society, on the other, one would not
find it hard to believe the drastic differences in opinion of people on this issue. What is amazing is
how these differences reflect upon scholarly works in science.
For example, in a play titled Frankenstein, based on a novel by Mary Shelley, ... Show more content

This shows that Mary Shelley must have been ahead of her time. Probably, it could also mean that
if Elizabeth had been a part of Victor s experiment of creating life, the creature would not have
turned into a destructive monster, thereby preventing the tragedy.
In contrast, Stephen Jay Gould, in Women s Brains, questions the validity of Paul Broca s study
(1824 80), a professor of clinical surgery at the Faculty of Medicine in Paris, who used unrefined
techniques to prove the lower intelligence of women as compared to men (753). Having been
convinced about the direct link between the intelligence of an individual and the size of brain,
Broca used his knowledge of craniometry, the method of skull measurement, to make a
relationship between the cranial capacity and the development of the brain. As Stephen Gould
puts it, Broca based his arguments on his data, which he collected meticulously from the
autopsies he performed in four Parisian hospitals. He found the average weight of 292 male
brains to be 1,325 grams, while 140 female brains averaged 1,144 grams, a difference of 14
percent of male brain s weight (754). Broca took this to mean that women were born biologically
inferior to men, whom nature endowed with intellectual superiority. According to Gould, this
discovery fuelled acrid misogynist remarks and sarcasms: The theologians had asked if women had
a soul ... some scientists were ready to refuse them

Congenital hearing loss is described as hearing loss that exists at birth. Factors responsible for this
condition include those present during pregnancy (such as hereditary factors), as well as factors
present after pregnancy. An inherited congenital hearing loss could be conductive, sensorineural, or
even a combination of both. The amount or progression of this type of hearing loss varies
according to each individual s case. According to Richard Smith, congenital hearing loss is
syndromic (associated with malformations of the external earor other organs or with medical
problems involving other organ systems) or nonsyndromic (no associated visible abnormalities of
the external ear or any related medical problems)... Over 400 genetic... Show more content on

On the other hand, there is another kind of a genetic factor called autosomal recessive hearing
loss. This means that both parents will typically have normal hearing, but they carry a recessive
gene for hearing loss. The probability of the child being born with hearing loss is 25%. The sex
chromosome X linked hearing loss is when the mother carries the recessive trait for hearing loss
on her sex chromosome and passes it down to the male. This recessive gene would not affect a
female child because paired with her father s gene the trait would remain recessive.
Genetic hearing loss can be seen in several syndromes, in which hearing loss can be a result of the
syndrome; examples of this are Down syndrome (an extra copy of chromosome 21), Usher
syndrome (autosomal recessive), and Treacher Collins syndrome (autosomal dominant). These are
not the only examples, but just a few of them.
Besides genetic factors, there are other causes of congenital hearing loss. These factors occur
naturally as opposed to being genetically passed down from the child s parent(s). Examples of these
natural causes include prenatal illness, infections, or toxins that might have been consumed by the
mother during her pregnancy. Other possibilities might include the conditions that happened at the
time of delivery or shortly after. All of these causes will most likely result

Red Tape Analysis
Public administration can be defined as the process of implementing governmental policies into
results. According to Kettl Public administration exists to implement the law, and the constitutional
system charts the path for authority (2015, p. 56). When a policy has been formed by the legislator,
it is then delegated to the bureaucracy, who are non elected officials with administrative authority,
to carry out public programs. Thus, becoming the job of the administrator to translate the intent of
the legislators by implementing rules and regulations, known as red tape, for citizens to adhere to.

In a small study, symptom data was collected through a web application regarding symptoms of
CHF that identified improvement of symptoms through self management (Dorsch, Farris, Bleske,
Koelling, 2015). Utilizing the data collected in the telehealth program would provide clinicians
with data on weight, blood pressure, medication use and oxygenation (Appendix A). In the CHF
telehealth intervention, patients provide self care based on the provider instructions at discharge
and through office visits. Studies have shown that self management is a major element of CHF
management (Lee, Lennie, Warden, Jacobs Lawson, Moser, 2013). Patient perceived low QOL is
a major predictor of mortality and evaluating the CHF telehealth interventions utilizing qualitative
survey data will help guide any revisions in the plan of care (Hoekstra et al., 2013). The
Minnesota living with heart failure questionnaire (MLHFQ) is a widely used tool in healthcare
that assesses the patient s perception of the effects CHF has on their life (Munyombwe et al.,
2014). Monitoring telehealth data and QOL survey components would provide data on
improvement of CHF care both from a clinical perspective as well as from a patient perspective.

IMPLICATIONS:
Ethically, Xenotransplantation goes against a lot of different views from people. People link this
to why should the animals suffer and be harmed for the sake of keeping someone alive. However,
it also raises the view of the suffering family and friends of those who have to suffer an illness like
diabetes, where is the balance between animal suffering and human benefit? The main ethical view
is why should animals suffer when it isn t certain if it will benefit humans? However, how are
humans meant to learn whether Xenotransplantation works if it isn t tested. Ethical reasons behind
Xenotransplantation plays a huge effect on people s views and opinions towards whether it should

Cultural implications impact s the outcome of Xenotransplantation heavily especially in New

Gemeinschaft Vs Gesellschaft Summary
Tonnies discusses the concepts of Community and Society in great detail, from the differences
between the two to the wills that fuel them. Perhaps the main argument in the book is the
differences between Gemeinschaft and Gesellschaft, or Community and Society. Tonnies defines
Gemeinschaft as a more intimate grouping of people who rely on each other and have shared goals
that places emphasis on the cohesive unit. On the other hand, Gesellschaft is the impersonal
grouping mainly found in city and urban areas. Societies are made up of people more interested in
personal goals and the places an emphasis on individualism. I agree to an extent that communities
are more personal and intimate and can foster stronger relationships within it. Communities require
people to be more dependent on each other than cities and metropolitan areas and as a result the
chances for tighter bonds are higher. However, present day Society and Community are vastly
different than the time it was written. With technology and travel, communities can grow all over
as well as virtually and can be present in a society location. Another point that Tonnies discusses is

capitalism has had a lasting impact on how people work and seek wealth. As a result, the ways in
which to gain them usually require a Society type of social group where the induvial is

King Henry Allusion
In Act 1, Scene 1 of King Henry V, the audience is given the impression that Henry is a decisive,
magisterial ruler, who considers the consequences of his actions and decisions. Our first
impression of the character comes from a dialogue between Bishops Ely and Canterbury, who are
discussing his unexpected rise to maturity. It is described that he was initially an irresponsible
young man: His companies unlettered, rude and shallow, / His hours filled up with riots, banquets
, sports . The use of parallelism, repetition and tricolon convey this idea. But he is then described
as having changed, rather suddenly, into a studious, noble man, with acumen and decisiveness:

the idea of divine right of kings, and furthermore, the idea of fate and destiny. The use of

How To Calculate Child Support
Child support is not just handed out without a process in the Corona family law sector. There are
guidelines on how to calculate child support and what the non custodial parent and custodial parent
are responsible for when it comes to their minor child s overall care and well being.
Three Common Factors of Calculating Child Support
1)The number of minor (or incapacitated/disabled dependent) children that require financial support.
2)The amount of quality parenting time each of the parents will have with the children.
3)The disposable income of each parent, which is not taken from your gross income, but instead
takes into account various financial considerations as well.
These three factors are not the only ones used to calculate child ... Show more content on

It is known as medical support. This is another factor that can raise or lower the support amount.
The guidelines are designed so that the insurance amount won t go over five percent of the gross
income of the parent who is carrying it. The parent who pays for the health insurance coverage gets
to use the amount as a deduction on the child support worksheet and is part of the calculation.
What that means is that the amount of actual financial child support will be lowered since the court
considers both incomes, therefore both parents are essentially paying for the health coverage
regardless of which one carries it.
Child support is a complex and detailed process even with the strict calculation guidelines in place.
The parents can agree upon an amount or the court may adjust the amount according to the situation.
Regardless of your situation, you need to hire a Corona divorce attorney to help you come to an
agreement or help settle things in the courtroom. Ideally, the goal is for both parties to come to a
reasonable agreement about child support, but that is not always possible. If litigation is necessary,
you will be pleased that you chose an attorney whether you pay or receive child

The Environmental Impacts Coming From Developing Mineral
The environmental impacts coming from developing mineral and energy resources from open pit
mining mainly comes from the extraction of the material once it has been deemed cost effective
to extract. What most often occurs when a site is being mined is that the material removed from
the dig site gets displaced over to the side in an area such as an open quarry mine. After the
materials are extracted the waste material is not placed back and neither is any vegetation that was
once there. One way that could help the surrounding environment would be to keep record of the
amount of material and/or vegetation removed and replace it with a similar amount once the
required material has been extracted. This would give the wildlife that had been... Show more

Mining is a relatively temporary activity due to the limited operating lives of the mining sites,
which are determined by the size and quality of the ore deposit being mined. Water is used in a
variety of applications at mine sites such as the diverting of surface water and the pumping out of
groundwater, which is a concern to all living creatures. The waste water runoff in open pit mining,
after rain water that flows through the mine, can collect numerous hazardous materials and wash
them into nearby streams or rivers. Having a collection well downhill from the mining site can aid
in the collection of this waste water runoff, but would only help if the tank never reached an
overflow situation. Mining operations can work to reduce the quantity of water used and increase
the quality of water available downstream for aquatic ecosystems and other industrial and
municipal water users, especially in areas with dry climates. In Canada, mining had one of the
highest water recycling rates among the industrial divisions, and between 1996 and 2005 reduced
its total water intake around 30%. This drop in the water use happened around the same time that
the value of production increased around 45%, meaning that the water intake per dollar of their
production had also declined. Water management strategies are being used at most

Implementing 5S Concept in Warehouse Management
IMPLEMENTING 5S CONCEPT IN WAREHOUSE MANAGEMENT
5S concept is reference to a list of five Japanese words which transliterated and translate into
English, start with the letter S and are the name of a methodology. The 5S methodology that
including the Seiri (organization), Seiton (neatness), Seiso (cleaning), seiketsu (standardization) and
shitsuke (discipline), is used as a platform for developing an integrated management system by the
parallel use of total productive maintenance (TPM) (Bamber et al., 2000).The practice of 5S aims
to embed the values of organization, neatness, cleaning, standardization and discipline into the
workplace (Osada, 1991). Besides, the 5S concept also widely apply into warehouse management

Discipline (shitsuke) through continuous training and education to the employees can enhance
their morale, knowledge, and skills which lead to increased quality of work life and work
standards (Osada, 1991). The training program to the employees can directly increase the
productivity of the warehouse because the employees are adapted to the effective skills in material
handling and they can eliminate the unnecessary step in order to improve the warehouse order
cycle time and reach to the cost effectiveness. The well discipline among the employees can increase
the unity level among the employees that come from various departments and finally eliminate the
communication barrier among them that lead to the well interaction among them.
There are 5 elements in the 5S concept that should be implementing by the company in order to
improve the performance of the warehouse and achieve costs effectiveness. These 5 elements in 5S
concept will be discussed and summarize as follow:
Sort (Seiri) The first S focused on eliminating unnecessary items from the warehouse to increase
the space utilization of the warehouse because the cost space of the warehouse is very expensive
that including the utilities, wages of employees, and insurances costs. The products was placed
strategically so that heavy products could be picked first

The Physics Of Underwater Welding
Underwater welding has always fascinated me, especially when I heard about it during my time as
a welding student at Arizona Automotive Institute (AAI). The history behind it has always grasped
my attention for some time now. I always wanted to know more about underwater welding such as
the history, how it works, what it is used for, and the dangers that are associated with the job.
Konstantin Khrenov was a Soviet Engineer, who would later make history by inventing underwater
welding. Khrenov was born in 1894 in Borovsk, Russia. He got his education at Saint Petersburg
State Electrotechnical University (ETU), where he learned about electric welding, engineering, and
mathematics. He had also taught and did research at ETU until 1925.
Underwater welding was not a thing people attempted during the 20th century, because shooting
an electric arc into the water was considered suicide. Although, Khrenov had a desire to find a
way to weld underwater, but faced many challenges such as, trying to find the sporadic outflow of
gas bubbles which would cause major porosity or build up in the welds. During this time, he and
others did research and testing to create a waterproof coating for the electrodes for stable power.
Once he completed this, he tested out the electrodes.
After constant testing and practice he became successful at creating underwater welding in 1932.
Many people were enthused about the idea that two scientists wrote two articles about his
accomplishments. The Navy

Fuel Efficiency In The Trucking Industry
When you are in the store, have you ever wondered how the store gets all that stuff? while you
ponder that question. The train and trucking industry, have been battling it out for years but
recently it has heated up. It has heated up because of environmental issues and traffic. Rail has
won so far and here are the reasons for this. Fuel efficiency is one of the biggest factors. The
battle has bean going on forever but trains always come out on top. Here are some statistics.
Trains can haul 1 ton of freight on average 440 miles on a gallon of fuel. Compare that to a semi
truck carys 1 ton of freight on average 144 miles on a gallon of fuel. Anther of the biggest reasons
for this is capacity a train car can hold a maximum of 315,000 Lbs.

Brain Case Work Case Study
Case Study One: Anne
During the first case study, Anne uses many various brain areas and structures. I chose to focus on
the Occipital Lobe, the Hypothalamus, and the Frontal Lobe. The Occipital Lobe is used when
Anne looks outside and at the easel she is painting on. She must see the objects she is replicating as
well as where she is painting. Another brain area that Anne uses while painting is the
Hypothalamus. This brain structure motivates her to paint what she sees in her garden. The last
brain area that I want to reference is the Frontal Lobe. Anne s Frontal Lobe allows her to move her
body from the window, to the easel, and her hand from the paint, to the canvas.

Nash Coaching Style
According to Nash (2014), a coaching style is the term used by coaches to explain how they
incorporate their values and beliefs into their coaching performance and the way they deliver their
sessions. An experiment was carried out on a group of coaches to analyse their different coaching
styles and to see how they applied these to their personal delivery and whether they were
encouraging and positive in the way they reinforced the most important aspects (What happened,
what was the result and Reference).
Coaches should be professional, always give maximum effort and have a good coaching style. If
they are not able to show good practice, they have to receive more training in order to accomplish
results (Reference).

Before the people found out that the footprints were fake it was known as the most greatest
piece of evidence that the monster was real. William Fraser wrote a letter to the government
about the Loch Ness monster. Fraser noted that a man named Peter Kent stated he was having a
special harpoon gun made for the beast to kill or to capture it for the prize money. According to
Radford Benjamin Kent says he will have twenty hunters on August twenty second for hunting
the beast (2015). Fraser also added in his letter that he did not want Kent and his men to hunt the
beast especially if it is the only one alive. Fraser suggested that some type of government
protection plan might be established for the Loch Ness monster. British Broadcasting
Corporation (BBC) took took the longest and most comprehensive search for the Loch Ness
monster. Their is a strong incentive to protect the Loch Ness monster and other large animals
from being hunted and captured. Locals and other people from the area and around the area
speak of the Loch Ness monster as a solitary animal. Solitary means done or existing alone, this is
well said because their has only been one monster found and seen. Also people not from the area

as breakdown of cartilage, injury of subhondral bone and changes to all articular surfaces. it
presents as pain in weight bearing joints that worsen with use. The joints that are mostly affected
are the distal interphalanges, knees, hips, toes and spine [1]. Kneeosteoarthritis is suspected after a
medical history and physical examination is done. During the physical examination the doctor
will examine the knee and its series of motion. He will pay close attention to areas that are
swollen, tender and painful [2]. There are a variety of diagnostic tests that may help confirm the

The effect of utilization of ultrasound via an increase in local blood flow can be used to help
reduce local swelling and chronic inflammation, and, according to some studies promote bone
fracture healing [6]. There are two different ways in which US can be used to treat disease,
continuous and pulsed ultrasound. Continuous ultrasounds are typically responsible for the heating
effect in the tissues because it uses an unmodulated continuous wave ultrasound beam with limited
intensities. In comparison, the pulsed ultrasound beam is modulated to deliver brief pulses of high
intensity separated by longer pauses of no power. It is suggested that pulsed Ultrasound be
recommended for acute pain and inflammation and continuous ultrasound for the treatment of
restricted movement [7]. In general, ultrasound is a safe treatment that has been used in
osteoarthritis therapy for years. It delivers heat to deep structures of the body, and it is thought that
this heat helps improve that way that your body heals. Numerous studies found positive links
between ultrasound and bone healing. It is both cost effective and produced no serious
complications or side effects which is an advantage over other types of treatments used in therapy

Mythical Norm Affects The Construction Of Identity For...
The Mythical Norm affects the construction of identity for Ethnic Minority women. The Mythical
Norm is considered to be what is socially acceptable of an ideal man and woman based on many
factors including race, gender, class, and age. The Ethnic Minority women usually play the inferior
role in society, while the male plays the dominant role and promotes the idea of being superior. The
unit demonstrates the position women are perceived throughout society as they are forced to hide
their own beliefs and capabilities to satisfy the needs of the men. Without the woman s consent, they
are being taught to satisfy the men s standards to become the ideal woman. For example, in
Invisibility is an Unnatural Disaster: Reflections of an Asian AmericanWoman by Mitsuye Yamada
when she recognizes how Asian American woman is lulled into believing that people perceive
her as being different from other Asian women (the submissive, subservient, ready to please, easy
to get along with Asian woman), she is kept comfortably content with the state of things. This is
an ordinary example of how the Mythical Norm comes back in place with the Ethnic Minority
women. In this case, the Mythical Norm plays a role in an Asian American woman s life as if she
is being controlled by the men in her life since in her cultural background the ideal women are to be
the caretaker in the household and nothing more. As well as in American Indian Women Managers:

Nabokov Use Of Symbolism In Lolita
The novel Lolita exposes the pedophilia and perversion in the text; however, the child pornography
invoked is very similar to the abrasive ads, commercials, and images viewed in America. It seems
sanctimonious that such a controversial novel because of the pedophilia, does not take into account
objectifying young girls. Integrity is not the concern in Lolita; a novel that represents the
exploitation towards the young girls is. While Humbert is a perverse and gruesome man that has
pedophiliac desires, Lolita s use of language, form, and contextual writing sends a message
towards the extortion of young girls. To be more specific, in the article, Lolita speaks: Sexting,

Nabokov commences the novel by creating this fictitious character, John Ray Jr. in Lolita s

Nabokov endlessly denied that he was seeking, and John Ray, Jr. stands for all the idiots readers
and critics who are benighted enough to think that such stuff matters in literature (17). The novel
captivates the reader by creating alliteration, anagrams, idiomatic, French phrases, prose style,
traps, and hoax with poetic attributes. Comparatively, Nabokov utilizes and reference Edgar
Allen Poe, the American writer and literary critic who married his 13 year old cousin very
similar to Nabokov with his 12 year old stepdaughter. In the article, Wood goes as far as claiming,
Humbert idealizes the dream of the America s shallow, mass managed culture Nabokov s stylistic
pandemonium really appears when Humbert defines Lolita as a disgusting conventional little girl.
She is the ideal consumer to whom ads were dedicated (24). Lolita is locked and closed from the

  • 2. Enlightenment Impact On Enlightenment Science and Culture, a Significant Impact on Enlightenment Era The Age of Enlightenment, also known as the Age of Reason occurred during the 18th and 19th centuries. It was a time when European politics, philosophy, science, and communications changed the way people embraced the fact that humanity could be improved through rational change. The Age of Enlightenment was a time of growth and change. It paved the way for major advancements in technology, as well as the way people viewed life. New ideas circulated, and Europe began to change as people questioned God s place and began to reposition their Christian faith. From the early age of Enlightenment to the peak, the Enlightenment era had a significant impact on economics, and politics, and religion. Ultimately, the impact that the Enlightenment periods had influencing economics, politics and religion, created a culture influenced by science and change that jump started a new Era. The culture change and scientific advancement created during the Age of Enlightenment created a remarkable turning point in European history as scientists such as Isaac Newton and writer John Locke, and female activists Mary Wollstonecraft questioned the status queue and powerfully motivated change. Impact of Science Science began to make an impact during the Age of Enlightenment at the start. • 3. Perks Of Being A Wallflower Reflection The summer before 7th grade I was introduced to the movie, Perks Of Being A Wallflower, by Stephen Chbosky. I label this movie the most influential piece of art that I have ever been exposed to as it allowed me to familiarize myself with characters who held traits I d recognized in myself long before but hadn t gotten the opportunity to learn. The movie followed an incoming high school freshman, Charlie, and a group of outcast seniors he befriended Sam, Patrick, Mary Elizabeth, and Alice all of whom, were characters who helped shape me into the person I am today. Gay. I had heard the word before when I was younger, maybe eight or nine years old, from a sixth grader who had been spewing forbidden words left and right. I remember asking them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead of only watching the movie because I wanted a sense comfort I had struggled in finding before, I watched it with a more mature mindframe. One of the key components in Perks Of Being A Wallflower is the Rocky Horror Picture Show. In the movie the characters put on a live performance of Rocky Horror weekly. The show plays a big part in some of the characters lives and it started to play a huge role in mine once I payed more attention to it. The more I watched and listened to the story the more I was intrigued. Rocky Horror brought on a lot of firsts for me. It was the first musical I had watched all the way through and enjoyed everything I saw. This lead me to find some of my favorite shows and movies today, like RENT and Glee. Rocky Horror also introduced me to the first transgender character I d ever seen. Granted, Dr. Frank N Furter probably wasn t the best role model for a fourteen year old, but I was mesmerized by the sheer existence of a happy community existing of people who were outcasts and shunned away from society. Rocky Horror also showed in depth how people can change when exposed to new things. Rocky Horror Picture Show starts with a conservative couple, Brad and Janet, who are terrified to be anywhere around a house full of transgender people and by the end of it they come out non judgemental and tolerant. It s a prime example of how you can shift someone who ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Workforce Planning Paper Workforce Planning prior to implementing actions to increase diversity in the IT department, it s necessary to evaluate the diversity and characteristics of the current team to establish the best fit , such as the strengths of the department, the challenges, and how to build on the strengths and address the challenges to create a diverse work environment (Harvard University, 2016). In evaluating the current system, there must be a consideration on whether the future positions or job categories are underutilized for women, minorities, or both as it pertains to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (NC State University, 2011). In essence, the identification of CML s core capabilities and the current and anticipated work demand along with... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, the largest accumulation of IT personnel, Silicon Valley, lacks in diversity of women and minorities and is largely dominated by Caucasian males (Rodriguez, 2015). As a result, there might be a lack of diverse individuals to choose from when reaching the recruitment phase of the project. In addition, the evaluation phase of the diversity project would take the time to complete, since it assesses many aspects of the organization to gather a complete image of the issue. However, the strategic workforce planning supports the overall CML mission to provide excellent service and improve the efficiency of the organization through maximizing the workforce potential (Klingner et al., 2010). Rating: On a scale of 1 10, this recommendation receives a 10 because the implementation of position management assists the employees with job descriptions the necessary skills and qualifications to motivate them and complete their tasks. Additionally, the analytical approach to workforce planning provides a fact based method to understanding the behaviors of the environment and the people. In reviewing the culture of the IT department, it exposes the turnover patterns and causes of the lack of diversity, which will assist the library in hiring and retaining the IT ... Essay on The Most Common Types of Systems Access Controls The most common types of systems access controls Access control requires unique user identification, emergency access procedure, automatic log off, and encryption and decryption of data. In order to maintain confidentiality, integrity and availability of data, it is important to control access to the information system. Controls prevent unauthorized users from accessing the system and/or altering data. They also prevent authorized users from making unauthorized changes to data. Inadequately secured wireless communication Wireless security isn t just a big issue for control systems, but for all uses, mainly because wireless is becoming so pervasive, says Staggs. It s very easy to plug wireless in almost anywhere. However, you have to be able to find the signals and know if someone has put in a rogue point. Before installing wireless, it s important to do a complete assessment to identify the best areas for wireless use and ensure that leakage out of the plant is minimized. There will be a wireless leakage when you have transmitters or wireless enabled workers walking around with tablet PCs or handheld devices. Those devices may be transmitting in an area outside a plant. Solution can be separation by segmenting the wireless networks from the rest of the control network. Additionally, it is strongly advisable to secure wireless access methods to include requiring authentication and enforcing strict access controls for communications leading from the wireless network into the rest of the control network. • 6. Fuel Economy Regulations Fuel Economy Regulations are Crushing the Economy In 1975, the United States government passed the first round of regulations on fuel economy for private passenger vehicles. The corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards were intended to gradually increase the average fuel economy of consumer vehicles in an attempt to reduce the release of the global warming gas carbon dioxide, as well as reduce the United Statesdependence on foreign oil reserves. This action originally seemed to be very effective at slowly improving the efficiency of cars and light trucks, but the bill s period of usefulness has since expired. When President of the United States, Barack Obama raised the fuel economy mandates via executive order to 54.5 miles per gallon... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The sale of many cars that help companies comply with efficiency standards have remained very minimal, because consumers do not want these less functional or comfortable products. In January of 2015, the General Motors Company sold only 542 all electric Chevy Volts, out of 1.5 million total sales (Matthews). As vehicles are forced to achieve higher fuel standards, many cars are forced to get smaller, which sacrifices areas such as comfort and utility in many of America s cars, and consumers simply are not buying this. This lack of desire for fuel efficient vehicles shows that the government, with its fuel efficiency mandates, working against the majority opinion of the people. Also, over the years since CAFE standards were first put in place, the sales of large cars and SUVs has risen dramatically, reaching 2.9 million of 4.9 million total car sales in 2011 (Gardner). These large, heavy, high fuel consumption vehicles make it much more difficult for auto companies to comply with the minimum fuel economy. Even though this increase in the sale of low efficiency vehicles, average fuel economy has gone dramatically up, and has, for all years, been somewhat higher than CAFE minimums (ANWYL). This shows that there is still consumer desire to have fuel efficient vehicles, but it is not a top concern ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Scapegoat In Shirley Jackson s The Lottery Numerous critics have carefully discussed Shirley Jackson s The Lottery in terms of the scapegoat traditions of anthropology and literature, pointing out its obvious comment on the innate savagery of man lurking beneath his civilized trappings. Most acknowledge the power of the story, admitting that the psychological shock of the ritual murder in an atmosphere of modern, small town normality cannot be easily forgotten. Nevertheless, beneath the praise of these critics frequently runs a current of uneasiness a sense of having been defrauded n some way by the development of the story on a whole. But even thought there are many differences in the stories, the biggest similarity they all share is that all four stories are about fitting in the American society. This is an important theme to me since I am starting as a first generation college freshman at Saint Mary s. So coming into this new school I will have to learn how to fit in with the society of the school just as the characters in each of the four stories try to fit in their own environment. Everyone has to go through some type of fitting in when they enter a new environment. But how a person reacts to the process of fitting... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This story is about a female writer who grows up in a Mexican family in America. Her family follows the Mexican tradition of women needing to find husbands and become housewives. Cisneros does not follow this tradition and gets her education, but her family does not approve. Even though Cisneros is a successful writer, all she wanted was to fit in with her father and 6 brothers who he valued so much. She had difficulty fitting in because her family did not see her as equal. When Cisneros graduated from college her father s reaction was, and still no husband, my father shakes his head even now and says I wasted all that education (Cisneros 13). Her father did not value her successful college education at all just because she did not get a husband there. But when Cisneros s eldest brother graduated her father was content as show when Cisneros states, When my oldest brother graduated from medical school, he fulfilled my father s dream that we study hard and use this our heads, instead of this our hands (14). It is hard for Cisneros to fit in her family when she achieved the same amount of success as her brother but her father views it as a waste of time because she is a woman. Due to this inequality she tries fitting in by dedicating all of her writings to her fathers approval. But even though her father does not even read literature, Cisneros achieves this life long goal of her father s approval when she ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Civil War resolved whether the United States is what determined the survival of the Union or whether the Confederacy would gain independence. It is the battle that determined whether the largest slaveholding country in the world would continue to exist as such since it thrived on the fundamental idea that all men are created with an equal right to liberty. Many women, however, took on roles at home while their husbands, fathers, sons and brothers left to fight in the war. Free women were not the only women individuals affected by the war. It was the war that was fighting for the freedom of slaves and thousands of enslaved women began transitioning to being a free woman. Women played many roles during this time and refused to sit waiting for the men in their lives to come back home from battle. No matter what roles/duties they took on, it redefined the traditional role of a housewife and mother than women normally played and their importance in the war effort was very significant. It is speculated that there were hundreds of women that served as spies for both sides during the Civil War. What these women would do was gather valuable information from the military by flirting with male soldiers. They smuggled supplies, medicine, and ammunition across enemy line by hiding everything underneath their skirts. A Confederate spy named Emeline Pigott would gather information by entertaining Union soldiers at parties she held in her own home. She would pass this information along to the Confederate army by leaving secret messages in hiding spots or by crossing enemy lines and delivering messages by hand. However, not many women spies would get away with it, and were quickly caught and arrested. It was their unladylike acts of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 18. Evil Vs. Good And Evil Evil vs. Good Which One Shall Gain Control? Good and evil are a contradiction that works together. What I mean by this statement is that although good and evil are two very separate things, they could not exist without each other. Good is anything of which can be morally right. Evil is anything of profound wickedness. They are very different, aren t they? Now, read a newspaper, listen to a story, or turn on the news. It is not definite, but you most likely will hear about an occurrence that caused someone harm. Nowadays, people mostly hear about slashing in the streets, kidnappings, murders, and so many more gruesome things. These are all examples of evil. Now, listen some more. In some cases, there are heroes, who protect people from these tragic events. And, since heroes are doing good, while criminals are doing bad, they sort of are working together. I am not at all saying that bad things are really considered something we need in our lives. For example, wouldn t it be so much better for kids to walk to school not in fear that because they live in a shady neighborhood, they might get hurt? Or wouldn t we all be happy if robbers did not exist and we would not have to lock almost everything we own? Well, we would be happier, but there is very little way to stop evil, even in one city! There is a population of approximately seven billion people in the world, so even one city would be insanely difficult to protect. The truth is, there are so ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While worldwide 436 nuclear reactors generate about 15% of the world s supply every year (Carson). Some people feel as though we need to expand the fleet of nuclear reactors and increase nuclear power production. Nuclear energy may be one of the best ways to combat global warming and reduce CO2 emissions, however if the radiation and nuclear waste that it produces is better for our environment than the CO2 is still uncertain. In the United States the nuclear powerplants use uranium235 as the nuclear fuel to produce energy. Most of the uranium that the United States uses is found in Wyoming and New Mexico (Nuclear Energy). There are many conventions to the gothic genre which indulges details on gothic architecture, spirituality and lucid descriptions in the first person along with dialogues. It is widely accepted that both the novella, Carmilla and the short stories from The Bloody Chamber include these aspects of gothic literature. Patriarchal dominance is often defined as a system of male domination and in gothic fictionit is traditional for the male to in fact save the weak and fragile female out of danger; further dominating his role. Although Carmilla was written during the Victorian Era, one would aspect a male dominated patriarchal system to be followed, but Le Fanu doesn t succumb to the traditional but in fact subverts it by casting the villain as female who preys on young and vulnerable women ultimately for power. However, where Carmilla does indeed follow the traditional gothic horror narrative where the victims are always presented as succumbing to a temptation that inevitably, has metaphysical consequences; in Carmilla the victims die from an unknown malady. The dates of the First Seminole War are debated but most believe that it occurred between 1816 and 1818. This war took place after the War of 1812and tensions were still high between the United States, Spain, and Great Britain. This was used as a strategic point during the conflict and tried to recruit Seminoles into the American army. After the War of 1812 was over, the fort built near the Apalachicola River was taken over by African Americans and was then deemed the Negro fort. The people in neighboring states were outraged by this and couldn t believe it really existed. General Andrew Jackson wanted this fort to be gone and threatened Spain about it. Soon after, Fort Scott was built right above the Florida border in response to the Negro fort. It was put there so the American troops could watch over what was happening in Florida. Trusts can be created by the action of the landowner or by third parties. Heidi acquires an equitable interest in the land under implied trust due to the deposit she made when Alex purchased the property (Williams Glynn Bank v Boland (1981) AC 487). Having been convinced about the direct link between the intelligence of an individual and the size of brain, Broca used his knowledge of craniometry, the method of skull measurement, to make a relationship between the cranial capacity and the development of the brain. As Stephen Gould puts it, Broca based his arguments on his data, which he collected meticulously from the autopsies he performed in four Parisian hospitals. He found the average weight of 292 male brains to be 1,325 grams, while 140 female brains averaged 1,144 grams, a difference of 14 percent of male brain s weight (754). Perhaps the main argument in the book is the differences between Gemeinschaft and Gesellschaft, or Community and Society. Tonnies defines Gemeinschaft as a more intimate grouping of people who rely on each other and have shared goals that places emphasis on the cohesive unit. On the other hand, Gesellschaft is the impersonal grouping mainly found in city and urban areas. Societies are made up of people more interested in personal goals and the places an emphasis on individualism. I agree to an extent that communities are more personal and intimate and can foster stronger relationships within it. Communities require people to be more dependent on each other than cities and metropolitan areas and as a result the chances for tighter bonds are higher. However, present day Society and Community are vastly different than the time it was written. With technology and travel, communities can grow all over as well as virtually and can be present in a society location. Another point that Tonnies discusses is the two different wills which fuel the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I agree with this argument partly because it has occurred. The rise of modern capitalism has had a lasting impact on how people work and seek wealth. • 38. King Henry Allusion In Act 1, Scene 1 of King Henry V, the audience is given the impression that Henry is a decisive, magisterial ruler, who considers the consequences of his actions and decisions. Our first impression of the character comes from a dialogue between Bishops Ely and Canterbury, who are discussing his unexpected rise to maturity. It is described that he was initially an irresponsible young man: His companies unlettered, rude and shallow, / His hours filled up with riots, banquets , sports . The use of parallelism, repetition and tricolon convey this idea. But he is then described as having changed, rather suddenly, into a studious, noble man, with acumen and decisiveness: Consideration like an angel came, / And whipped th offending Adam out of him, / leaving his body as a paradise / T envelop and contain celestial spirits.... He is beyond ordinary human nobility and beyond ordinary capabilities. Consideration is also personified as acting upon Henry, suggesting that this change was not a result of his efforts, but rather that some external force had selected Henry to lead England through this time. This reflects the idea of divine right of kings, and furthermore, the idea of fate and destiny. The use of parallelism, and the metaphor of the flood convey the idea that this change was unprecedented and occurred extremely rapidly. There are guidelines on how to calculate child support and what the non custodial parent and custodial parent are responsible for when it comes to their minor child s overall care and well being. Three Common Factors of Calculating Child Support 1)The number of minor (or incapacitated/disabled dependent) children that require financial support. 2)The amount of quality parenting time each of the parents will have with the children. 3)The disposable income of each parent, which is not taken from your gross income, but instead takes into account various financial considerations as well. This is another factor that can raise or lower the support amount. The guidelines are designed so that the insurance amount won t go over five percent of the gross income of the parent who is carrying it. The parent who pays for the health insurance coverage gets to use the amount as a deduction on the child support worksheet and is part of the calculation. What that means is that the amount of actual financial child support will be lowered since the court considers both incomes, therefore both parents are essentially paying for the health coverage regardless of which one carries it. Child support is a complex and detailed process even with the strict calculation guidelines in place. The parents can agree upon an amount or the court may adjust the amount according to the situation. Regardless of your situation, you need to hire a Corona divorce attorney to help you come to an agreement or help settle things in the courtroom. • 41. The Environmental Impacts Coming From Developing Mineral The environmental impacts coming from developing mineral and energy resources from open pit mining mainly comes from the extraction of the material once it has been deemed cost effective to extract. What most often occurs when a site is being mined is that the material removed from the dig site gets displaced over to the side in an area such as an open quarry mine. After the materials are extracted the waste material is not placed back and neither is any vegetation that was once there. One way that could help the surrounding environment would be to keep record of the amount of material and/or vegetation removed and replace it with a similar amount once the required material has been extracted. This would give the wildlife that had been... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mining is a relatively temporary activity due to the limited operating lives of the mining sites, which are determined by the size and quality of the ore deposit being mined. Water is used in a variety of applications at mine sites such as the diverting of surface water and the pumping out of groundwater, which is a concern to all living creatures. The waste water runoff in open pit mining, after rain water that flows through the mine, can collect numerous hazardous materials and wash them into nearby streams or rivers. Having a collection well downhill from the mining site can aid in the collection of this waste water runoff, but would only help if the tank never reached an overflow situation. Mining operations can work to reduce the quantity of water used and increase the quality of water available downstream for aquatic ecosystems and other industrial and municipal water users, especially in areas with dry climates. In Canada, mining had one of the highest water recycling rates among the industrial divisions, and between 1996 and 2005 reduced its total water intake around 30%. This drop in the water use happened around the same time that the value of production increased around 45%, meaning that the water intake per dollar of their production had also declined. • 43. The Physics Of Underwater Welding Underwater welding has always fascinated me, especially when I heard about it during my time as a welding student at Arizona Automotive Institute (AAI). The history behind it has always grasped my attention for some time now. I always wanted to know more about underwater welding such as the history, how it works, what it is used for, and the dangers that are associated with the job. Konstantin Khrenov was a Soviet Engineer, who would later make history by inventing underwater welding. Khrenov was born in 1894 in Borovsk, Russia. He got his education at Saint Petersburg State Electrotechnical University (ETU), where he learned about electric welding, engineering, and mathematics. He had also taught and did research at ETU until 1925. Underwater welding was not a thing people attempted during the 20th century, because shooting an electric arc into the water was considered suicide. Although, Khrenov had a desire to find a way to weld underwater, but faced many challenges such as, trying to find the sporadic outflow of gas bubbles which would cause major porosity or build up in the welds. During this time, he and others did research and testing to create a waterproof coating for the electrodes for stable power. Once he completed this, he tested out the electrodes. After constant testing and practice he became successful at creating underwater welding in 1932. Many people were enthused about the idea that two scientists wrote two articles about his accomplishments. The Navy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Mythical Norm Affects The Construction Of Identity For... The Mythical Norm affects the construction of identity for Ethnic Minority women. The Mythical Norm is considered to be what is socially acceptable of an ideal man and woman based on many factors including race, gender, class, and age. The Ethnic Minority women usually play the inferior role in society, while the male plays the dominant role and promotes the idea of being superior. The unit demonstrates the position women are perceived throughout society as they are forced to hide their own beliefs and capabilities to satisfy the needs of the men. Without the woman s consent, they are being taught to satisfy the men s standards to become the ideal woman. For example, in Invisibility is an Unnatural Disaster: Reflections of an Asian AmericanWoman by Mitsuye Yamada when she recognizes how Asian American woman is lulled into believing that people perceive her as being different from other Asian women (the submissive, subservient, ready to please, easy to get along with Asian woman), she is kept comfortably content with the state of things. This is an ordinary example of how the Mythical Norm comes back in place with the Ethnic Minority women. In this case, the Mythical Norm plays a role in an Asian American woman s life as if she is being controlled by the men in her life since in her cultural background the ideal women are to be the caretaker in the household and nothing more.
