Damnation Conflict Analysis
The movie Damnation showed conflict in values by groups such as the Elwha tribe, people who
worked at the dam, and environmentalists. These groups all had their reasons for why the dam should
be taken down or not. In this paper I will argue that the values held by the different groups involved in
the conflict over these dams have shaped those conflicts: first, the Elwha tribe need abundant
resources and have a spiritual heritage to follow: second, the dam workers need their jobs to support
their families and themselves: third, environmentalists encourage the use of hydroelectricity and the
government use the dams as a renewable source of energy and finally, the environmentalists who
believed hatchery fish is an inefficient way of bringing abundant resources to the river. As you can see
the values held by these groups have shaped those conflicts on why the dam should be either removed
or not.
Firstly, the values held by the Elwha tribe shaped the conflict over these dams because they needed
abundant resources in order to follow their traditions. Certain fishes such as sockeye salmon were not
able to get upstream because of the dam; moreover, this resulted in sockeye salmons not being able to
migrate and have offspring. The values held by the Elwha tribe shaped this conflict because sockeye
salmon is a traditional part of their lifestyle and they need to be able to catch and cook these fish to
follow their traditions. As stated by Steve Ralph, the Elwha tribe considered the

Friedrich Nietzsche was a famous philosopher form Germany. He was born in Röcken bei Lützen,
which is a kingdom in Prussia on October 15, 1844. Friedrich Nietzsche lived a short live and died at
age fifty five. He died in Weimar on August 25, 1900. During Friedrich Nietzsche s life he published
many books, reflect on his religion, and obtained an education. Friedrich Nietzsche had to face many
problems during his life. The problems he faced created his history and influenced his philosophy

Some philosophers agreed with his claims and others tried to discredit or oppose his work. A
philosopher who applied Friedrich Nietzsche s work to his own was Theodore Herzl. He was born on
May 2, 1860 and studied at the University of Vienna. Theodore Herzl developed the Zionist
Philosophy. This philosophy included Friedrich Nietzsche s ideas about war, honor, and state craft.
The philosophy was created to explain what the future of a Jewish state would hold. Both Friedrich

The Story of Bob Marley, Women and their Children Essay
The Story of Bob Marley, Women and their Children
Introduction
The music genre of reggae has become indelibly linked with artist Bob Marley. To this day, nearly two
decades after his death from cancer, Bob s legacy lives on in his popular songs of oppression, racial
strife and resistance. Yet, his heritage is also carried on by the people who he touched. Like any rock
star, famed musician or celebrity, women surrounded him wherever he went. That Bob was not a one
woman man was common knowledge, says Don Taylor, though Bob had been married to Rita
Anderson throughout his climb to the top rungs of the musical ladder (Taylor). The purpose of this
paper is to explore the details of Bob s marriage to Rita, his longstanding relationship with ... Show

Bob was said to be very strict with the trio, which consisted of Rita, her cousin Constantine Dream
Walker, and Marlene Precious Gifford, to the point where the group came to dislike him (White).
Much to Rita s dismay however, Bunny pointed out that Bob was in love with her. Soon after, Bob
started sending her love notes. Rita was confused by this display of emotion since Bob held a strict air
in public. She approached him with her confusion, and the result was a two hour long discussion that
brought the two closer together.
During one discussion, Bob explained his night visions of duppies, or ghosts, to Rita.
Because the girl vehemently disbelieved him, he invited her to stay with him in his bed to witness the
apparitions. Rita accepted the offer, and did indeed witness the specters Bob had so accurately
described, but a sexual relationship was not consummated at that time (White).
By then, Rita was still living with her stern aunt. But that didn t prevent Rita from offering her lover a
place to stay. Bob accepted, though he was forced to sneak in after her cousin went to sleep and leave
before anyone awoke. Furthermore, Bob had to share a bed with Rita and her cousin, and be careful
not to awake Sharon, whose crib remained close to the bed. Eventually, Viola discovered the nocturnal
happenings between the lovers. Thinking that Bob could act as Sharon s father figure, Viola invited
Bob to live with Rita in a shed behind the house.

Racism And Racism In America
The social issue I chose as my topic is racism. If you ever questioned what it would be like to live in
the 1930 s or 1950 s, you don t have to look far. Right now at this moment America is living through
it. The individuals involve are presenting how ugly America really is. Dressed in khakis and polo s,
bearing torches, putting on Nazi memorabilia, and chanting anti black, anti immigrant, anti LGBT,
anti Jewish, anti Muslim chants, white supremacist racists have descended on Charlottesville, VA., in
crowds that may very well be the largest public rally of its kind in generations. With almost no
resistance from local police, these public racists have marched all over town giving Nazi salutes while
chanting. They have shouted every racial slur imaginable and have done so with the full knowledge
that they are being filmed. And this was all before someone used a car like a torpedo to plow into a
crowd. We are living in a dangerous, unstable time and I m sure that Charlottesville isn t an outlier, but
an indicator of things to come. Whatever you thought about 2017 in America, if ugliness, racism, and
hatred aren t at the center of your thoughts, then you should think again. Omi and Winant argue that
the concept of race developed gradually and was created to justify and explain inequality and genocide
that is characteristic of European colonization.
The expropriation of property, the denial of political rights, the introduction of slavery and other forms
of coercive labor,

Essay about Analysis of The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee...
The Glass Menagerie is one of Tennessee Williams most famous play. A sort of autobiographical play
that closely resembles Williams s life before stardom. The play occurs during the 1930 s before world
war two, in an apartment in St. Louis. Where the three main characters reside and confront on a
quotidian basis. Moreover, as well in which they live in their world of illusion. Illusion and reality is
practically what the play revolves around. The characters Tom, his sister Laura and mother Amanda
are attached to an imaginary world in one way or another. Tom has become the head of the household
ever since their father abandoned them. He s an aspiring poet who works in a shoe warehouse. He s

THE ACCOUNTING REVIEW Vol. 77 Supplement 2002 pp. 175 202 Evidence from Auditors about
Managers and Auditors Earnings Management Decisions Mark W. Nelson John A. Elliott Cornell
University Robin L. Tarpley The George Washington University ABSTRACT: This paper reports
analyses of data obtained using a field based questionnaire in which 253 auditors from one Big 5 firm
recalled and described 515 specific experiences they had with clients who they believe were
attempting to manage earnings. This approach enables us to analyze separately managers decisions
about how to attempt earnings management and auditors decisions about whether to prevent earnings

Auditors are required by GAAS to understand their clients incentives and to search for differences
between actual and expected performance that may indicate misstatements, so the auditors who
participated in our study were relatively well positioned to identify specific instances of earnings
management. Because respondents provided transaction level data about attempts covering a range of
financial accounting transactions, including attempts that are purely judgmental as well as attempts
that involve transaction structuring, these data allow us to examine how attempts are affected by the
precision of financial accounting standards2 and by other characteristics of attempts. Unlike studies
that focus on only postaudit information, we consider separately managers decisions about how to
attempt earnings management and auditors decisions about whether to require adjustments.3 Thus, our
study provides evidence about how a key feature of accounting standards (precision of rules) and a
key feature of the financial reporting process (activity of external auditors) influence earnings
management. Results of descriptive analyses indicate that the earnings management attempts in our
sample occurred in numerous accounting areas, including revenue recognition, business combinations,
intangibles, fixed assets, investments and leases, but by far the most frequently identified attempts
involve reserves. Respondents believe that managers attempts were motivated

Thematic Similarities in Fun Home by Alison Bechdel and...
In Fun Home, Alison s dynamic with her father is damaged to a certain extent and she finds inspiration
in how she wants to not make her life the way that she grew up. Just like Alison, Sara in The Bread
Givers, finds inspiration in the dynamic with her own father because she wants to have a life of her
own choosing, but she thinks so highly of father and his love for books and knowledge. These two
girls both look up to their fathers to a certain extent but at the same time they each find resentment in
the culture norms that their fathers push towards on them. Both Alison and Sara are damaged by their
fathers dynamic within the family but they both find inspiration to not get overshadowed by who their
fathers are and want they may want for them but a life of their very own.
Sara faces a number of serious hindrances on her way to making a life of her own. One of them is her
father, who she looks up to and starts to resent later on in life. Her father, Red Smolinsky wants his all
daughters to fulfill their gender roles: maintain the household, take care of children, cook, etc.
Women, in his opinion, do not exist without men and their own function is to serve men in all senses
sexual, psychological and spiritual. Red Smolinsky represents the Old World with its conservative
view on the womanhood. She also starts to hate her father when she understands the ways he has
denied his daughters, her older sisters, lives of their own. Sara tries to resist this new world and her

Water Fiji Research Paper
WATER
Fiji, Dasani, and Zephyrhills

Abstract
Fiji, Dasani, Zephyrhills
In my project I put different brands of water into identical cups and ask my participants to put them in
order from best to worst after trying each one. I hope to learn if manufacturing water a different way
affects the taste of the water. I wanted to do this project, because when you think about water you don
t think about different kinds of water so this project opens your mind to just a daily need.
Fiji Water. Fiji water is a popular brand of water that takes a specific process. The water is from rain
that has been filtered through layers of volcanic rock and slowly gathering the natural minerals and
electrolytes that give Fiji water a soft, smooth taste. (Fiji Water official website) After being filtered
the water gathers in a natural artesian aquifer that is deeply underground in the Fiji Islands so the
water won t be contaminated with elements. The rainfalls are also purified by the winds that travel
across the Island, because unlike most winds these don t carry any acid rain and environmental
pollutants (https://www.leaf.tv/articles/facts about fiji water/). It is never touched by human hands,
which shows that Fiji s water is clean and stays clean because bacteria from hands is never transferred
to the water. Fiji s Nutritional Label says it s 93mg of silica per liter, 18mg of calcium per liter, 15mg
of magnesium per liter, 152mg of salt. This all adds to a pH of 7.7, which means Fiji water is filled
with oxygen (altered states.net). The human body is suppose to have around 7.0 to a 7.4pH balance.

The last risk would be financial issues due to insurance issues. Of 10 million Americans nearly 7
million of them being over 65 rely on some level of assisted care (Weston 2012). This number does
not include the number of people that are under the age of 65. Many people that rely on long term care
live on disability or social security. These people are living on extremely limited income put them and
their families in mental distress trying to figure out how to pay for the needed care. Medicare provides
only 100 days of care following hospitalization (Weston 2012). After the 100 days it then becomes the
responsibility of the patient to either pay out of their pocket or use a supplemental insurance. For
many this is an issue as they do not have any other insurance nor do they have the finances to afford
this care on their own. With patients under Medicaid insurance there is still an issue Medicaid
provides long term care, but only after a patient has deplete his/her finances (Weston 2012). So how
does this affect the organization itself, now with lack of insurance you run the risk of not being paid
for services already rendered. The other risk involved is that if a patient is unable to pay for the care
themselves then they have to resort to other means of care, now the organization has empty beds.
Empty beds mean that there is not a high need for staff members resulting in layoffs. All of these risks

The Threat of Love in Totalitarian Regimes as Depicted in...
Love is the foundation and the weakness of a totalitarian regime. For a stable totalitarian society, love
between two individuals is eliminated because only a relationship between the person and the party
and a love for its leader can exist. The totalitarian society depicted throughout the Orwell s novel 1984
has created a concept of an Orwellian society. Stalin s Soviet state can be considered Orwellian
because it draws close parallels to the imaginary world of Oceania in 1984. During the twentieth
century, Soviet Russia lived under Stalin s brutal and oppressive governments, which was necessary
for Stalin to retain power. In both cases, brutality and oppression led to an absence of relationships and
love. This love was directed towards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Joseph Stalin built up this love with the Cult of Personality . He was glorified with giant statues and
monuments. Stalin appeared daily on the cover of Soviet newspapers; he was in every facet of Soviet
life. Daily visual imagery of Stalin portrayed him as a Georgian peasant, which emphasized socialist
principles of power from the people. In addition, people called him father and teacher of the peoples
(Runyan 66) and a deity, because he replaced the Czar and the Church. These daily images were
engraved in the minds of the people. Thus, the Cult of Personality was flourishing. Propaganda
glorifying Stalin and Soviet ideals brainwashed the minds of Russian people. Stalin successfully
impressed his socialist philosophies on millions of workers and peasants. Over time, socialism
transformed into Stalinism, and it took hold. Stalin was able to hypnotize people towards one belief,
the love of Stalin. A simple cause and effect: they saw imagery of Stalin portrayed heroically everyday
in the news or on posters and they began to idolize him. Stalin is like Big Brother; he was the focus
and with the love and loyalty of his people, he had total power over them and their actions. The
description of Big Brother himself bears a physical resemblance to Stalin and his cult of personality.
Orwell s Big Brother is an all seeing, all knowing figure with ultimate authority. Soviet Russia was

Cinque Terre Day 2: Thursday June 23, 2016 We forced ourselves to get a very early start this

day, and we enjoyed having the little town to ourselves. Or at least it felt that way after the crowds we
experienced the day before. Then, it was on to numero cinque, Monterosso! According to Rick Steves,
it is Cinque Terre s only resort town. Both Bob and I were not expecting to like it as much as the other
towns from this description. However, along with Corniglia, it ended up being one of our favorites.

A New England Nun Analysis
An Analytical Essay of A New England Nun by Mary E. Wilkins Freeman
Independence is an empowering state where one feels no need to rely on another. In the short story A
New England Nun, Mary E. Wilkins Freeman demonstrates the internal struggle of a woman
accustomed to being solitary that she feels confined by her upcoming marriage. The author presents
the characterizations effectively through Louisa s internal independence, the comfort she has with her
household, the relationship she built with her fiancé and the connection she has with her late brother s
dog.
In this short story, Louisa s internal independence plays a major role in who she is as a woman. Mary
E. Wilkins Freeman describes Louisa as an introvert because she is someone who enjoys being alone.
She spends fourteen years of her life being isolated at home, waiting for her fiancé to come back from
his job in Australia. During those years, she learns how to be by herself through the hard times and the
pleasant ones Louisa s feet had turned into a path, smooth maybe under a calm, serene sky, but so
strait and unswerving that it could only meet a check at her grave, and so narrow that there was no
room for any one at her side (Freeman 66). This demonstrates how she is so use to not having anyone
by her side. This is why she creates her own path through all the dark times she had to face on her
own. In many ways this can foreshadow the ending of the short story. This shows how she always
counted on herself and

Basket Of Clams Analysis
Basket of Clams is a watercolor done by artist Winslow Homer, in 1873 AD. Winslow Homer was
known as a Realism painter. This particular piece is a watercolor done on wove paper and it is 11 ½ x
9 ¾ in. The picture depicts two children walking the beach in a Massachusetts town with a bucket full
of clams. In the distance you can see multiple sailboats in port and the big sailboat behind the children
are there to show that this town is very driven by its boating life. There are two formal elements that
Homer uses here to help capture the viewer and that is the use of color and lines. When first looking at
this picture everything tends to be the same color tone except the boy on the left who is wearing a

Alternative Sources Of Alternative Energy
Introduction Since the industrial age, fossil fuels have been used as a source of energy and power. The
fossil fuels are used and converted into coal, oils, and gasses. The products of fossil fuels are mostly
Carbon, which is harmful to the environment, leading to global warming and climate change, and O
zone destruction. These conditions cause global temperature increase, ocean acidification, rising sea
levels, health problems due to pollution, and the destruction of ecosystems (climate.nasa.gov).
Considering these issues, alternative energy sources are something that can be used to help combat
harmful fossil fuels and lessen humanity s Carbon footprint (the amount of carbon dioxide and other
carbon compounds emitted due to the consumption of fossil fuels by a person, group, etc.). There are
multiple alternative and renewable energy sources available on the market today. Some of these
include: solar panels, geothermal systems, and wind turbines; However, another alternative energy
source could be harvesting lightning. Unlike the previous alternative energy sources, lightning can
produce large amounts of power in a single strike. A single lightning bolt carries enough energy
comparable to the energy stored in 145 liters of petrol (Malavika1, Vishal, p. 23). The lightning does
not have to be built or mass produced, only the system used to harvest it. Harvesting the power of
lightning would allow for a decrease on the reliance of fossil fuels for power as well as help solve

Ready For Junior Year
To begin with, so far I started off on the right track this year and I m satisfied about it. There this one
question that has been constantly repeating itself on my head. Am I ready for junior year? I been
asking this question to myself constantly this school year. I believe that I m not ready for junior year.
The reason why I m saying this is because I feel like there a lot more concepts to know of to be

myself if I m ready or not.
Moreover, I believe that there s still a lot to learn. Last year this question had come up around this

The Murray Darling Basin (MDD)
The Murray Darling River Basin: The Basin can be found in South Eastern Australia and mostly in the
New South Wales, with a hot semi arid North and North East and a warm semi arid South due to the
proximity of the Southern Pacific Ocean ( About The Murray Darling Basin , 2016); vegetation
consists of mostly small shrubs and sparse to semi dense trees. The two largest rivers are the Murray
and the Darling. They both find headwaters in the Australian Alps, along with other tributaries which
flow into the basin, and are influenced by seasonal rainfall but also the La Nina and El Nino oceanic
patterns. The basin itself is a flat plain located on what is known as the Murray Darling Depression
(MDD). The plain as it is roughly seen today was created about 50 60 million years ago the region
was a shallow sea; but the region had been a shallow see many times before this, as sea levels have
risen and fallen over the past few hundreds of millions of years. As a recent the tertiary and quaternary

Organizational leadership means the process of improving actions of line managers and decision
makers through better knowledge and understanding. To operate effectively, organizations need to fit
or align themselves with their environment, strategies, capabilities and leadership skills. To compete
successfully in highly competitive and constantly changing business environment, however,
organizations also need to achieve fitness and the ability to learn and change to fit new circumstances.
In other words, firms can lose their competitive advantage through the lapse of time, therefore
leadership skills are the only sustainable competitive advantage firms can have.
After a colleagues discussion, and a series research, we have decided that Hewlett Packard (HP) will
be the subject of our case study for the Organizational Leadership course project. Reason being, the
HP culture speaks, acts, and operates within their values, which will be further elaborated in their
motto that is widely shared at HP, The HP Way . The core organizational values have been embedded
and practiced by their employees over the years proves that HP is one of the best learning
organizations around today.
Hewlett Packard (HP) is one of those companies that have risen to the top. It is a well known company
with a good name and great financial successes. But is this company able to remain at that top? Could

The Impact Of Imsi Catchers On Mobile Phone Towers On Gsm...
Introduction
IMSI Catchers or Cell Site Simulators are devices that pose as legitimate cell phone towers on GSM
networks in order to either log the IMSI numbers of mobile phones in a specific area or to intercept
mobile phone traffic in a specific area of interest. IMSI stands for International Mobile Subscriber
Identity and is an identifying number that is unique for every mobile phone. This research paper sets
out to understand how IMSI catchers work, when and in what context their deployment would be most
beneficial to investigators, and the legality of this device.
How IMSI Catchers Work
Cellular Networks
A cellular network is a radio network distributed over land areas called cells . Each cell is served by
one fixed location transceiver, which is called a base station . When cells are joined together, they
provide wireless coverage over a large geographic area, within which mobile stations or phones can
communicate with base stations and each other. Overlapping coverage areas allows transmission to be
maintained even when mobile stations are moving between cells. Assigning a different set of
frequencies to neighboring cells avoids wireless signal interference.

Crime scenes are known to have many clues left behind. The obvious would be a the body or bodies,

another kind of evidence; trace evidence. Trace evidence are small pieces of evidence that are laying

The Future Of Personal Transportation
The future of personal transportation is in complete vehicle automation. However, the risks to
individuals are not as high as the media may make it seem. That being said, it is important for the
public to be aware of the new threats involved in driving automated cars. A consumer interest in
online vehicle security will push manufacturers to invest in better security systems to defend against
hacker attacks.
The vast majority of hackers are not looking to murder people. Most likely they seek to invade
privacy, or exploit online services for financial gain. These people are looking to be a nuisance and
possibly trying to harass particular individuals in the process. To look at the threat of vehicle hacking

Many of these systems are incredibly useful, including: satellite radio, Bluetooth connections, and the
monitoring of non electronic systems within the car. Personal connectivity to cars on the road has very
high potential, and should continue to be explored, along with the appropriate security measures. One
of the most blatant issues is that many of these electronic systems are too connected to each other.
Hackers are able to exploit the weakness of one system, and then proceed to manipulate the much
more critical ones, such as navigation assistance, phone connectivity, or steering in the most severe

It is inevitable that people will attempt to break into these systems for their own personal gain. We are
dependent on security experts to come up with new ways to defend the public from hackers, and

Researcher Peiter Zatko said,
If we know that hacking will happen, then car manufacturers have an ethical obligation to implement
preventative measures.
Implementing such large scale connectivity is reminiscent of the beginnings of the internet in the

The Causes Of The Migration Series By Jacob Lawrence
The Migration series by Jacob Lawrence is a sequence of sixty paintings (with captions) portraying
the mass movement of African Americans from the rural South to cities in the North and West during
the beginning of the twentieth century. The artist was the child of African American migrants, and he
grew up during the 1930s in Harlem, where he took art classes. In planning the series, Lawrence did a
lot of library research on the history and causes of the migration. Reading the series from beginning to
end, the viewer can see that he puts the fruits of his learning into the scenes and captions. This paper
explores how the series represents the causes of the Great Migration. I argue that Lawrence shows

Although the pattern does not stay exactly this way throughout the series, the back and forth between
depictions of individuals and groups is pretty common. My point is similar to this one in a scholarly
article: The narrative . . . is not linear, but alternates between the insistent portrayal of the dominant
event in the plot the actual physical displacement of the people and paintings dealing with the main
causes of this mass migration (Tribe 405). This quotation brings us back to the issue of causes, which I
think is related to the opposition individual/society. When Lawrence depicts the causes pushing
African Americans out of the South (like lynching, child labor, injustice, and discrimination), he
usually shows us only one person or a small group, like a family. Some of the causes pulling migrants
away from the South (labor agents, letters from kin) also are shown having their effect on individuals
or small groups. But when

Islam contributed the Arabic script and language to the Sudanic empires, which became known as
centers of learning and culture. The invasion of Ghana by the Muslems along with a disastrous series

After the fall of Ghana, a Black state called Mali became the successor power in West Africa. The

him the most powerful ruler in Africa. Mali was founded by the Mande people of the upper Niger

Yale Symphony Orchestra Analysis
Bassoon, Brass, and Brahms: Highlights from Woolsey Hall On Saturday evening, the Yale Symphony
Orchestra delivered its final performance of the fall in the cavernous Woolsey Hall, featuring guest

alliteration (Beethoven, Berg, and Brahms), the music itself was devoid of repetition and
predictability, with vast dynamic and melodic contrasts highlighting the performance. To begin the

strong dynamic contrast and forceful brass sound throughout the piece. While the French horn and

Particularly exciting was the hair raising fourth movement of the symphony, in which the conductor
came to life, jumping while conducting and giving sweeping, emotional cues to the orchestra. When
the first theme from the sonata form movement began in the strings, it seemed as if it would be
another peaceful movement. However, when the tutti played the theme with a sforzando volume, the
entire audience was reengaged. The orchestra executed with elite technical precision, with all strings
bows in sync. As with the rest of the concert, the group did a nice job contrasting loud, tutti sections
with minor, modulated solos, especially in the flute and clarinet. Even in a hall as cavernous as
Woolsey, the orchestra did a superb job with crisp pizzicato and staccato cutoffs. The only flaw in the
rendition of Brahms symphony was extreme dynamics: the trombones played with such vigor that
their sound began to spread, perpetuating the intonation problems the orchestra had throughout the
concert. Overall, the Yale Symphony Orchestra delivered an exquisite performance, riddled only by
perpetual intonation problems. The audience was very engaged, with a lengthy standing ovation at the
end of the concert, and no cell phones in sight throughout the truest sign of a phenomenal

Analysis Of Elizabeth Barrett Browning s Sonnets Of The...
All literature reflects the values, attitudes and beliefs of the context of construction. Thus, this means
that whenever we study any text, we must develop a deep understanding of how the context impacts
upon the purpose of the texts and the writers intended discourses. The comparative study of Elizabeth
Barrett Browning s sonnets of the Portuguese and Scott Fitzgerald s Pros fiction The Great Gatsby
allow for a thorough evaluation of the relationship between the texts contexts and values. Both
composers craft arguments on the nature of and value of life itself within the framework of love and
spirituality. Browning, however writes from the perspective of a woman challenging values of the
conventions of the Victorian era. Whilst, Fitzgerald construct s his text as an indictment on the
emerging hedonistic and capitalist creed of 1920 s America the Jazz Age. As we will move through the
texts, the writer s context will influence their discourses and hence the meaning and significance we
derive from each text. Mortality:
Both Gatsby and the sonnets provide commentary on the meaning and value of life itself. The
composers articulate a number of arguments on human mortality and what does and doesn t constitute
a waste of human life. ( I will change the parts I have highlighted)
The Great Gatsby presents most of the characters using immoral and corrupt means to achieve their
American dream. This results in the physical/metaphorical death of a being. Contextually, The Great

Animals Should Not Be Zoos
Imagine being a zoo animal. Wouldn t the animal want to be free, and not in captivity? There should
not be zoos. From outside of a cage it is barely noticeable, but what is happening to the zoo animals is
not right. There should not be zoos because animals cannot exercise which leads to health issues, they
have little to no space which causes depression, and there are other places that help animals in a safer
and more productive way. The history of zoos is that animals would be in tin cages, now, they live in
fake terrain, so none of these habitats are appropriate for animals. Zoos say that they are helping
endangered animals, but really they are killing them. Most animals in zoos do not get enough exercise
as part of their daily schedule, and when animals exercise is lacking, health issues are occurring more
frequently. For instance, stressed animals signal depression or psychoses. When elephants at zoos
sway from side to side, the people outside of the cage believe it is a normal motion for the animal, but
it is actually a signal of stress. Behaviors like these are mainly caused by a lack of privacy, mental
stimulation and physical exercise. To help the animals, some zoos give tranquilizers or antidepressants
to control these kinds of behaviors in animals. Animals do not deserve this, but still lack exercise. For
example, cheetahs in the wild pace 0% to 5% of their day, but at the Milwaukee County Zoo, 64% of
their day is spent doing this. Cheetahs are one of the most endangered animals at the zoo because at
zoos they only live to age 16 or 17, while in the wild they live to be 30 or older. As a result of this lack
of exercise provided by zoos, zoos are not matching the animals natural exercise behaviors, so the
animals become unhealthy. Most animals stuck in zoos live by themselves even if they are meant to
live in herds. While in the wild, playful african elephants live peacefully and splash each other with
their trunks. In zoos with cages there is not enough space to play and enjoy themselves. The average
size of elephants is 7 feet, and they live in 12 foot enclosed cages, so that leaves them with only 5 feet
to move around. Elephants can not move, nor use their trunks and this causes them to die

How To Write A Forensic Investigation Essay
Abstract Law enforcement agencies have relied on forensic art as one of their investigation methods
for many years. The job of a forensic artist is quite difficult because he or she must reconstruct an
image of an individual based on just hearsay and memory from another individual. The purpose of this
study is to research forensic artists, also known as sketch artists, and their ability to draw up a suspect
through the information provided by a witness. Interviews on two different forensic artists provide
insight of the duties and hardships a law enforcement sketch artist takes on. The process of how law
enforcement sketch artists are able to recreate the face of another individual, and how that picture can
be a very useful piece of evidence for crime reports will also be addressed throughout the study. This
study is relevant to anthropology because it touches on how how an individual perceives those around
them and forensics itself is also one of the key topics discussed in biological anthropology.
Statement of the Research Question Sketch artists are capable of reconstructing the faces of suspects
by either the detailed information (or lack of detailed information) given to them by those who were at
the scene of the crime, which is quite a challenging task to do. The overall questions I want to address
and answer are how accurate are the artist s sketches and whether or not TV shows and or movies
accurately depict the everyday life of a forensic artist.

Causes Of The Jim Crow Laws
My position is that the Jim Crows Laws were entirely outrageous and gave no real hope to the people
who truly needed it. The Jim Crow laws are the laws that made the separation of the nonwhites
(Expert Space) from the whites legal. Some of the whites used to think that they were naturally
smarter and more civilized than blacks (Expert Space). The creation of the Jim Crow laws took place
in about 1880, after World War II ended; it ended due to the Civil Rights Act in the 1950 s. These laws
were started in the US Supreme Court, though there were fifty states that didn t adopt the laws:
Alaska, Arkansas, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New
Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, and Wisconsin. This segregation took place mostly in
the south, like the slavery that was going on in the US up until 1865. This leads to the first cause of
the Jim Crow laws. Racism: it has been going on since the start of man. White people thought and
some still think that they were and are superior to the African American people. It got really bad when
the white people enslaved the people of color in 1619 1865. Most of the former slave owners were so
furious over the ending of the Jim Crow laws, that they continued to treat the black people terribly.
They were ecstatic when the Jim Crow laws were created about fifteen years later so they could
appear superior to the black people once again. There were some people who fought for the rights of

Fate and Free Will in Harry Potter
One of the most pondered questions in human existence is whether our lives are determined by forces
which are beyond our control or by our own free will. It is widely believed that one s own destiny is
created by fate. However, some also consider the possibility that one s own choices can determine the
reality of one s existence. In Harry Potter, JK Rowling uses fate and choice as forces which shape the
events revolving around her protagonist, Harry Potter, as well as the other characters in the story.
Rowling does not side with one idea over the other, but instead, argues that both fate and choice are
significant factors that determine the events which happen during the course of an individual s

Your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of

Each of the students share the common goal of winning the House Cup for their house. Individualism,

Where Do I See Myself
The question is where do I see myself in five to ten years. The honest answer is I don t know where I

about money issues. Also, I hope that I m done with school and have achieved the highest degree in
my career field and hopefully I have no student loans that I need to payoff. Lastly, I see myself some

Comparison Between Othello And Emilia
Perkins 1
Jonathan Perkins
Professor Barbara Russell
COM1102
1 August 2014 Compare and Contrast Desdemona and Emilia in Othello In the play Othello , by
William Shakespeare, there are two significant ladylike assumes that draw in our consideration. One is
the wife of the play s tragic saint Othello; the other is locked in to one of the best malevolent
individuals ever Iago. They are an imperative piece of what goes ahead in the play and inevitably how
the genuine issue of the play is settled. These two females of the play might be investigated in various
ways. To start, both Desdemona and Emilia are the wives of men of activity. Their spouses are in the
Venetian military and standard men as well as men who hold positions and quality. Desdemona is the
wife of Othello who is a General in the armed force with men under his charge. Emilia s spouse is
Iago who is the extremely old of Othello. Next, the two women demonstrate a level of not knowing
anything about the plots in play around them. Unknowingly both Desdemona and Emilia play directly
into Iago s expert arrangement of pulverization. Desdemona and Emilia are likewise faithful wives
who need to satisfy their spouses. Othello accepts that Desdemona is improperly sexual and ; along
these lines Desdemona needs to quiet down his stresses concerning her faithfulness by cooling him,
thusly satisfying him. Desdemona guarantees: I never did Perkins 2 Offend you in my life;

Protein Supplementation
Protein supplementation is most commonly carried out by athletes who rely on the protein for the
repair and growth of cells within the muscles, to aid recovery of the body post exercise and possibly
for the increase in muscle size. At present the effects of protein supplementation are not fully
understood as many studies have failed to meet a general consensus (Wolfe, 2000).
Protein Excess
Body of Text
It is often said that those on high protein diets will increase body fat than those not on these diets. A
study was carried out by Bray et al. (2012) to see what would happen when subjects overeat under the
following conditions: a low protein diet, a normal protein diet and an excess protein diet, on energy
expenditure, lean body mass and body ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When an athlete is in an energy balance their input of energy equals their output. For this athlete if
they have an excess of protein it must be noted where the excess is coming from, i.e. from a deficit of
lipids or carbohydrate. If there is a deficit of lipids it would not be as serious as if there was a deficit
of carbohydrates. If an athlete had a deficit of carbohydrates their physical performance could be at
risk of depletion (Phillips, Moore and Tang, 2007).
With regards to excessive protein consumption there are many contradicting studies that argue on
either side of excessive protein having a harmful impact on the body. It appears that the most
detrimental effect for an athlete would be if the excess protein meant there was a decreased
carbohydrate intake (Tipton and Wolfe, 2004). Decreased carbohydrate intake can cause
Protein Timing
An aspect of great importance in relation to protein supplementation is the timing in which it is
ingested. Protein supplementation should be consumed immediately after or up to an hour after
resistance training to attain the full benefit of the nutrient (Phillips, Moore and Tang,

Family Deployment Analysis
Military children and families face multiple challenges just for being part of this culture, these
challenges are not limited to disruption in family routines, extended separations, mental health
problems and parenting difficulties that be related to exposure to traumatic events (Paley, Lester,
Mogil, 2013). One such challenge is deployment. What is deployment, it is the sending of military
personnel and materials to a specific destination from their home installation (Military, 2015).
Deployment encompasses the preparation and personal needs that are needed before, during and after
deployment. All families preparing for a deployment separation go through a process defined by the
stages of preparation, survival, and reunion and with each stage comes with different stressors and
adjustments for the military member and family members left behind. The stages are predeployment,
deployment, sustainment, redeployment and post deployment ((Devoe, Ross, 2012), within these
stages are the seven emotional stages of deployment anticipation of departure, detachment and
withdrawal, emotional disorganization, recovery and stabilization, anticipation of return, return
adjustment and renegotiation and reintegration and stabilization (Morse, 2006).
From a theoretical perspective of ecological system deals with human development ... Show more

The purpose of the family care plan is to ensure that each service member has made adequate
arrangements for their dependents in preparation for deployment (DoD, 2010). Another community
resource is the Family Advocacy Program (FAP). FAP is a prevention process which involves leaders,
offering them a variety of tools for educating, preventing, identifying, assessing and treating family
violence and help families to identify specific problem areas and teaches them how to overcome
difficulties by constructively resolving issues (Anonymous,

Nobodies Innocence
I really went home, I could not dissapoint Phoebe like that. After seeing her cry killed me, I m starting
to wonder if I should have wrote that note, If I did not I would be up west until I was thirty. Geez she
would be a women by then, she would not be good ol innocent Phoebe. I m not sure if I left if Phoebe
would ever forgive me, to be honest I m not sure if I would be able to forgive myself. Now, that I
think about it writing the note was the best idea I have ever had. If I did not write the note, I would
have never opened my eyes, and realized that nobodies innocence could be protected for their life.
Phoebe really helped me, she opened my eyes, and made me realize that instead of worrying about her
innocence I need to worry about being there for her and being her role model. ... Show more content

I guess it was because I did not try and I was focusing on things that were less important, but seeing
you today made me realize what is important, and I will have my last chance in September. To be
honest I was not to sure of myself, I was not sure if that was true or if I was just telling myself that. I
guess I just don t really have the desire to devote my life to school, but I didn t tell Phoebe that I just
thought that, I mean I guess like a soliloquy.
I went to go tuck Phoebe into bed, and she did something that really killed me, she kissed me
goodnight! SHE HAS NEVER DONE THAT! Goodnight Holden, I love you. She made me really
happy, I was speechless I did not really know how to answer I was so happy. I love you too goodnight.
I m still scared for my parents to come home. I m not sure if they wanna see me, and I m not sure how
they will react, I don t want Phoebe to see a negative reaction from my parents towards me, she s still
so young she does not deserve to see that. Well in my head I kept saying to myself At least I m

General Sheridan
After the invasion of Normandy, France by the Allies in World War II, the Allies pushed the German
Army back towards Germany. For the Allies, the war looked to conclude by Christmas of that year,
1944, and to do so required a major push across Europe to Berlin. Operation Market Garden would the
largest airborne battle during the war and would be led under Field Marshal Sir Bernard Montgomery
who was in command of the 21st Army Group. What was thought to be the final push into Berlin,
Germany by the Allies proved to be wrong during Operation Market Garden. The Allies ultimately
lost the battle and were forced to delay movement into Germany. The Battle of Arnhem was the most
famous battle during Operation Market Garden, known as a bridge too far , where the British 1st
Airborne Division, led by Major General R.E. Urquhart, and the Polish 1st Independent Parachute
Brigade were dropped in the Netherlands to secure the key bridges at Arnhem. Ultimately the mission
failed for the British due to lack of resupply and reinforcements from the British XXX Corps on the
ground. MG Urquhart did not demonstrate the steps in mission command, understand, visualize, lead
and direct during the Battle of Arnhem, which also contributed to losing the battle. Operation Market
Garden involved two plans by the Allies; Operation Market was the airborne plan and Operation
Garden was the ground plan. The Allied airborne units of the 101st Airborne Division, 82nd Airborne
Division, and 1st

Consumerism Worldview
There are many different types of worldviews that that are held among the countless people of this
world. Consumerism is one that is very prominent in this day in time. Consumerism absolutizes
consumption by believing that we can find fulfillment by accumulating wealth and everything that
comes with it. (Wilkins Sanford, 2009). There are many different elements of consumerism I will
discuss, along with how this worldview of consumerism compares with the Christian worldview, and
lastly, I will express how knowing what the Bible says about consumerism affects my life personally.
According to Wilkins and Sanford (2009), there are several elements of a consumerism worldview;
accumulating and using things brings fulfillment, money is power, we need just a little bit more,
people are viewed as objects to consume, and if something ceases to fulfill me or meet my needs it
should be discarded. With the idea that by accumulating and using things brings fulfillment, whether it
be fulfillment of material things or fulfillment of emotional needs, this worldview neglects to fulfill
our deepest emotional needs leaving us always desiring more to fill that void. Money is power leaves
people always striving to accumulate wealth so they can have power and control over situations,
because you are only important or significant if you have wealth. Also with the consumerism
worldview, we always feel that we need a little bit more, because what you already have is never
enough, due to material

The Central Problems Of International Politics
ne of the central problems of international politics is that of cooperation or lack of cooperation.
Though, cooperation is not always possible or a welcome idea when it comes to states making
decisions. Creating and claiming value are two of the most fundamental aspects of negotiation strategy
that exist, but there is tension with one another. In any negotiation, the delegates need to decide which
course of action to take whether that be competitive, cooperative, or some of both. David Lax and
James Sebenius call this the negotiator s dilemma. It is similar to the prisoners dilemma in game
theory, because this is a way of using rational choice and strategic thinking to describe situations. In a
book written by D. Lax and J. Sebenius The Manager as Negotiator: The Negotiator s Dilemma:
Creating and Claiming Value, the authors argue that negotiation includes both cooperative and
competitive elements, and that these elements exist in tension. The dilemma in this situation is in
deciding whether to pursue a cooperative or a competitive strategy. The authors suggest several
strategies to resolve this dilemma, and how to encourage cooperative approaches to creating mutually
beneficial outcomes. Conflict analysts tend to view negotiations either as a matter of cooperating to
create value, or as a matter of competing to claim values. In the value creating view, negotiators work
primarily to increase the available resources, to find joint gains or win win solutions,

Ford Motor Company Marketing Strategy Essay
Ford Motor Company Marketing Strategy
Ford Motor Company is one of the world s largest producers of cars and trucks and one of the largest
providers of automotive financial services marketing vehicles under the eight brands shown below.
The Company is a publicly traded company listed on the New York Stock Exchange. During 2002, the
company made 6.7 million vehicles and employed 328,000 people worldwide. Business partners
include 25,000 dealers and more than 10,000 suppliers.

Now all car companies work very hard to find out what people really want from cars, and they try to
build cars to fit the preferences. Market research uses all the same empirical tools as experimental
psychology, but with larger research budgets, better defined questions, more representative samples of
people, and more impact. Ideally, marketing s empiricism works like Rogerian psychotherapy: it holds
up a mirror to ourselves, reflecting our beliefs and desires so we can recognize, remember, evaluate,
and transform them.
Ford Motor Company is undergoing a transformation that is putting their customers at the center of
everything they do. Their vision is to be the world s leading consumer company for automotive
products and services. That requires a much different headset than that of a traditional automobile
manufacturer one that concentrates intensely on the people who buy and use their products.
Obviously, they had had a pretty good idea of what their customers wanted in the past, or we wouldn t
be approaching our 100th anniversary.
For nearly a century, Ford Motor Company has worked to improve people s lives and be a responsible
and valuable member of the community. In recent years, they have expanded and accelerated their
corporate citizenship efforts, and worked to integrate them into their overall business strategy.
But today s customer and today s competition requires a deeper level of understanding. Traditional
market research is fine,

  • 2. Damnation Conflict Analysis The movie Damnation showed conflict in values by groups such as the Elwha tribe, people who worked at the dam, and environmentalists. These groups all had their reasons for why the dam should be taken down or not. In this paper I will argue that the values held by the different groups involved in the conflict over these dams have shaped those conflicts: first, the Elwha tribe need abundant resources and have a spiritual heritage to follow: second, the dam workers need their jobs to support their families and themselves: third, environmentalists encourage the use of hydroelectricity and the government use the dams as a renewable source of energy and finally, the environmentalists who believed hatchery fish is an inefficient way of bringing abundant resources to the river. As you can see the values held by these groups have shaped those conflicts on why the dam should be either removed or not. Firstly, the values held by the Elwha tribe shaped the conflict over these dams because they needed abundant resources in order to follow their traditions. Certain fishes such as sockeye salmon were not able to get upstream because of the dam; moreover, this resulted in sockeye salmons not being able to migrate and have offspring. The values held by the Elwha tribe shaped this conflict because sockeye salmon is a traditional part of their lifestyle and they need to be able to catch and cook these fish to follow their traditions. As stated by Steve Ralph, the Elwha tribe considered the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The Story of Bob Marley, Women and their Children Essay The Story of Bob Marley, Women and their Children Introduction The music genre of reggae has become indelibly linked with artist Bob Marley. To this day, nearly two decades after his death from cancer, Bob s legacy lives on in his popular songs of oppression, racial strife and resistance. Yet, his heritage is also carried on by the people who he touched. Like any rock star, famed musician or celebrity, women surrounded him wherever he went. That Bob was not a one woman man was common knowledge, says Don Taylor, though Bob had been married to Rita Anderson throughout his climb to the top rungs of the musical ladder (Taylor). The purpose of this paper is to explore the details of Bob s marriage to Rita, his longstanding relationship with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bob was said to be very strict with the trio, which consisted of Rita, her cousin Constantine Dream Walker, and Marlene Precious Gifford, to the point where the group came to dislike him (White). Much to Rita s dismay however, Bunny pointed out that Bob was in love with her. Soon after, Bob started sending her love notes. Rita was confused by this display of emotion since Bob held a strict air in public. She approached him with her confusion, and the result was a two hour long discussion that brought the two closer together. During one discussion, Bob explained his night visions of duppies, or ghosts, to Rita. Because the girl vehemently disbelieved him, he invited her to stay with him in his bed to witness the apparitions. Rita accepted the offer, and did indeed witness the specters Bob had so accurately described, but a sexual relationship was not consummated at that time (White). By then, Rita was still living with her stern aunt. But that didn t prevent Rita from offering her lover a place to stay. Bob accepted, though he was forced to sneak in after her cousin went to sleep and leave before anyone awoke. Furthermore, Bob had to share a bed with Rita and her cousin, and be careful not to awake Sharon, whose crib remained close to the bed. Eventually, Viola discovered the nocturnal happenings between the lovers. Thinking that Bob could act as Sharon s father figure, Viola invited Bob to live with Rita in a shed behind the house. ... • 5. Racism And Racism In America The social issue I chose as my topic is racism. If you ever questioned what it would be like to live in the 1930 s or 1950 s, you don t have to look far. Right now at this moment America is living through it. The individuals involve are presenting how ugly America really is. Dressed in khakis and polo s, bearing torches, putting on Nazi memorabilia, and chanting anti black, anti immigrant, anti LGBT, anti Jewish, anti Muslim chants, white supremacist racists have descended on Charlottesville, VA., in crowds that may very well be the largest public rally of its kind in generations. With almost no resistance from local police, these public racists have marched all over town giving Nazi salutes while chanting. They have shouted every racial slur imaginable and have done so with the full knowledge that they are being filmed. And this was all before someone used a car like a torpedo to plow into a crowd. We are living in a dangerous, unstable time and I m sure that Charlottesville isn t an outlier, but an indicator of things to come. Whatever you thought about 2017 in America, if ugliness, racism, and hatred aren t at the center of your thoughts, then you should think again. Omi and Winant argue that the concept of race developed gradually and was created to justify and explain inequality and genocide that is characteristic of European colonization. THE ACCOUNTING REVIEW Vol. 77 Supplement 2002 pp. 175 202 Evidence from Auditors about Managers and Auditors Earnings Management Decisions Mark W. Nelson John A. Elliott Cornell University Robin L. Tarpley The George Washington University ABSTRACT: This paper reports analyses of data obtained using a field based questionnaire in which 253 auditors from one Big 5 firm recalled and described 515 specific experiences they had with clients who they believe were attempting to manage earnings. Auditors are required by GAAS to understand their clients incentives and to search for differences between actual and expected performance that may indicate misstatements, so the auditors who participated in our study were relatively well positioned to identify specific instances of earnings management. Because respondents provided transaction level data about attempts covering a range of financial accounting transactions, including attempts that are purely judgmental as well as attempts that involve transaction structuring, these data allow us to examine how attempts are affected by the precision of financial accounting standards2 and by other characteristics of attempts. Unlike studies that focus on only postaudit information, we consider separately managers decisions about how to attempt earnings management and auditors decisions about whether to require adjustments.3 Thus, our study provides evidence about how a key feature of accounting standards (precision of rules) and a key feature of the financial reporting process (activity of external auditors) influence earnings management. Results of descriptive analyses indicate that the earnings management attempts in our sample occurred in numerous accounting areas, including revenue recognition, business combinations, intangibles, fixed assets, investments and leases, but by far the most frequently identified attempts involve reserves. Respondents believe that managers attempts were motivated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Fun Home, Alison s dynamic with her father is damaged to a certain extent and she finds inspiration in how she wants to not make her life the way that she grew up. Just like Alison, Sara in The Bread Givers, finds inspiration in the dynamic with her own father because she wants to have a life of her own choosing, but she thinks so highly of father and his love for books and knowledge. These two girls both look up to their fathers to a certain extent but at the same time they each find resentment in the culture norms that their fathers push towards on them. Both Alison and Sara are damaged by their fathers dynamic within the family but they both find inspiration to not get overshadowed by who their fathers are and want they may want for them but a life of their very own. Sara faces a number of serious hindrances on her way to making a life of her own. One of them is her father, who she looks up to and starts to resent later on in life. Her father, Red Smolinsky wants his all daughters to fulfill their gender roles: maintain the household, take care of children, cook, etc. Women, in his opinion, do not exist without men and their own function is to serve men in all senses sexual, psychological and spiritual. Red Smolinsky represents the Old World with its conservative view on the womanhood. She also starts to hate her father when she understands the ways he has denied his daughters, her older sisters, lives of their own. Sara tries to resist this new world and her ... Water Fiji Research Paper WATER Fiji, Dasani, and Zephyrhills Emily Brynn Davison Lake Butler Elementary School Abstract Fiji, Dasani, Zephyrhills In my project I put different brands of water into identical cups and ask my participants to put them in order from best to worst after trying each one. I hope to learn if manufacturing water a different way affects the taste of the water. I wanted to do this project, because when you think about water you don t think about different kinds of water so this project opens your mind to just a daily need. Fiji Water. Fiji water is a popular brand of water that takes a specific process. The water is from rain that has been filtered through layers of volcanic rock and slowly gathering the natural minerals and electrolytes that give Fiji water a soft, smooth taste. (Fiji Water official website) After being filtered the water gathers in a natural artesian aquifer that is deeply underground in the Fiji Islands so the water won t be contaminated with elements. The rainfalls are also purified by the winds that travel across the Island, because unlike most winds these don t carry any acid rain and environmental pollutants (https://www.leaf.tv/articles/facts about fiji water/). It is never touched by human hands, which shows that Fiji s water is clean and stays clean because bacteria from hands is never transferred to the water. Fiji s Nutritional Label says it s 93mg of silica per liter, 18mg of calcium per liter, 15mg of magnesium per liter, 152mg of salt. The last risk would be financial issues due to insurance issues. Of 10 million Americans nearly 7 million of them being over 65 rely on some level of assisted care (Weston 2012). This number does not include the number of people that are under the age of 65. Many people that rely on long term care live on disability or social security. These people are living on extremely limited income put them and their families in mental distress trying to figure out how to pay for the needed care. Medicare provides only 100 days of care following hospitalization (Weston 2012). After the 100 days it then becomes the responsibility of the patient to either pay out of their pocket or use a supplemental insurance. For many this is an issue as they do not have any other insurance nor do they have the finances to afford this care on their own. With patients under Medicaid insurance there is still an issue Medicaid provides long term care, but only after a patient has deplete his/her finances (Weston 2012). So how does this affect the organization itself, now with lack of insurance you run the risk of not being paid for services already rendered. The other risk involved is that if a patient is unable to pay for the care themselves then they have to resort to other means of care, now the organization has empty beds. • 12. The Threat of Love in Totalitarian Regimes as Depicted in... Love is the foundation and the weakness of a totalitarian regime. For a stable totalitarian society, love between two individuals is eliminated because only a relationship between the person and the party and a love for its leader can exist. The totalitarian society depicted throughout the Orwell s novel 1984 has created a concept of an Orwellian society. Stalin s Soviet state can be considered Orwellian because it draws close parallels to the imaginary world of Oceania in 1984. During the twentieth century, Soviet Russia lived under Stalin s brutal and oppressive governments, which was necessary for Stalin to retain power. In both cases, brutality and oppression led to an absence of relationships and love. This love was directed towards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Joseph Stalin built up this love with the Cult of Personality . He was glorified with giant statues and monuments. Stalin appeared daily on the cover of Soviet newspapers; he was in every facet of Soviet life. Daily visual imagery of Stalin portrayed him as a Georgian peasant, which emphasized socialist principles of power from the people. In addition, people called him father and teacher of the peoples (Runyan 66) and a deity, because he replaced the Czar and the Church. These daily images were engraved in the minds of the people. Thus, the Cult of Personality was flourishing. Propaganda glorifying Stalin and Soviet ideals brainwashed the minds of Russian people. Stalin successfully impressed his socialist philosophies on millions of workers and peasants. Over time, socialism transformed into Stalinism, and it took hold. Stalin was able to hypnotize people towards one belief, the love of Stalin. A simple cause and effect: they saw imagery of Stalin portrayed heroically everyday in the news or on posters and they began to idolize him. Stalin is like Big Brother; he was the focus and with the love and loyalty of his people, he had total power over them and their actions. • 14. A New England Nun Analysis An Analytical Essay of A New England Nun by Mary E. Wilkins Freeman Independence is an empowering state where one feels no need to rely on another. In the short story A New England Nun, Mary E. Wilkins Freeman demonstrates the internal struggle of a woman accustomed to being solitary that she feels confined by her upcoming marriage. The author presents the characterizations effectively through Louisa s internal independence, the comfort she has with her household, the relationship she built with her fiancé and the connection she has with her late brother s dog. In this short story, Louisa s internal independence plays a major role in who she is as a woman. Mary E. Wilkins Freeman describes Louisa as an introvert because she is someone who enjoys being alone. She spends fourteen years of her life being isolated at home, waiting for her fiancé to come back from his job in Australia. During those years, she learns how to be by herself through the hard times and the pleasant ones Louisa s feet had turned into a path, smooth maybe under a calm, serene sky, but so strait and unswerving that it could only meet a check at her grave, and so narrow that there was no room for any one at her side (Freeman 66). This demonstrates how she is so use to not having anyone by her side. This is why she creates her own path through all the dark times she had to face on her own. In many ways this can foreshadow the ending of the short story. This shows how she always counted on herself and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 16. Alternative Sources Of Alternative Energy Introduction Since the industrial age, fossil fuels have been used as a source of energy and power. The fossil fuels are used and converted into coal, oils, and gasses. The products of fossil fuels are mostly Carbon, which is harmful to the environment, leading to global warming and climate change, and O zone destruction. These conditions cause global temperature increase, ocean acidification, rising sea levels, health problems due to pollution, and the destruction of ecosystems (climate.nasa.gov). Considering these issues, alternative energy sources are something that can be used to help combat harmful fossil fuels and lessen humanity s Carbon footprint (the amount of carbon dioxide and other carbon compounds emitted due to the consumption of fossil fuels by a person, group, etc.). There are multiple alternative and renewable energy sources available on the market today. Some of these include: solar panels, geothermal systems, and wind turbines; However, another alternative energy source could be harvesting lightning. Unlike the previous alternative energy sources, lightning can produce large amounts of power in a single strike. A single lightning bolt carries enough energy comparable to the energy stored in 145 liters of petrol (Malavika1, Vishal, p. 23). The lightning does not have to be built or mass produced, only the system used to harvest it. Harvesting the power of lightning would allow for a decrease on the reliance of fossil fuels for power as well as help solve ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Hands up drop the weapon!, the professor had a baby in his hands along with a ray gun. He went to release the ghosts, but something went wrong. BOOM! It went up in flames. After the scene all that was found was the baby, no ghosts, the ghosts powers were gone, but the police did not know where, only the baby. Jack! What the heck are we going to do about the weather. There were no signs of this weather before any of this happened. It has been a month! Nervously said Nick. Jack responded, I don t know, but we are climbing to the top of the building where the weather panel is to find this out. Kshhh go to your classes, said the lady in the intercom. Those intercoms have been messed up since the weather has been going on. In my Geometry class the water leaks took out our power. Nick and Jack went up to the door leading to the rooftop, but there was some weird insulation surrounding the edges of the door. Footsteps were heard. Jack Flame, Nick Harden, what are you doing? Introduction IMSI Catchers or Cell Site Simulators are devices that pose as legitimate cell phone towers on GSM networks in order to either log the IMSI numbers of mobile phones in a specific area or to intercept mobile phone traffic in a specific area of interest. IMSI stands for International Mobile Subscriber Identity and is an identifying number that is unique for every mobile phone. This research paper sets out to understand how IMSI catchers work, when and in what context their deployment would be most beneficial to investigators, and the legality of this device. How IMSI Catchers Work Cellular Networks A cellular network is a radio network distributed over land areas called cells . Each cell is served by one fixed location transceiver, which is called a base station . When cells are joined together, they provide wireless coverage over a large geographic area, within which mobile stations or phones can communicate with base stations and each other. Thus, this means that whenever we study any text, we must develop a deep understanding of how the context impacts upon the purpose of the texts and the writers intended discourses. The comparative study of Elizabeth Barrett Browning s sonnets of the Portuguese and Scott Fitzgerald s Pros fiction The Great Gatsby allow for a thorough evaluation of the relationship between the texts contexts and values. Both composers craft arguments on the nature of and value of life itself within the framework of love and spirituality. Browning, however writes from the perspective of a woman challenging values of the conventions of the Victorian era. Whilst, Fitzgerald construct s his text as an indictment on the emerging hedonistic and capitalist creed of 1920 s America the Jazz Age. As we will move through the texts, the writer s context will influence their discourses and hence the meaning and significance we derive from each text. • 35. Animals Should Not Be Zoos Imagine being a zoo animal. Wouldn t the animal want to be free, and not in captivity? There should not be zoos. From outside of a cage it is barely noticeable, but what is happening to the zoo animals is not right. There should not be zoos because animals cannot exercise which leads to health issues, they have little to no space which causes depression, and there are other places that help animals in a safer and more productive way. The history of zoos is that animals would be in tin cages, now, they live in fake terrain, so none of these habitats are appropriate for animals. Zoos say that they are helping endangered animals, but really they are killing them. Most animals in zoos do not get enough exercise as part of their daily schedule, and when animals exercise is lacking, health issues are occurring more frequently. For instance, stressed animals signal depression or psychoses. When elephants at zoos sway from side to side, the people outside of the cage believe it is a normal motion for the animal, but it is actually a signal of stress. Behaviors like these are mainly caused by a lack of privacy, mental stimulation and physical exercise. To help the animals, some zoos give tranquilizers or antidepressants to control these kinds of behaviors in animals. Animals do not deserve this, but still lack exercise. For example, cheetahs in the wild pace 0% to 5% of their day, but at the Milwaukee County Zoo, 64% of their day is spent doing this. Cheetahs are one of the most endangered animals at the zoo because at zoos they only live to age 16 or 17, while in the wild they live to be 30 or older. As a result of this lack of exercise provided by zoos, zoos are not matching the animals natural exercise behaviors, so the animals become unhealthy. Most animals stuck in zoos live by themselves even if they are meant to live in herds. While in the wild, playful african elephants live peacefully and splash each other with their trunks. In zoos with cages there is not enough space to play and enjoy themselves. The average size of elephants is 7 feet, and they live in 12 foot enclosed cages, so that leaves them with only 5 feet to move around. • 39. Causes Of The Jim Crow Laws My position is that the Jim Crows Laws were entirely outrageous and gave no real hope to the people who truly needed it. The Jim Crow laws are the laws that made the separation of the nonwhites (Expert Space) from the whites legal. Some of the whites used to think that they were naturally smarter and more civilized than blacks (Expert Space). The creation of the Jim Crow laws took place in about 1880, after World War II ended; it ended due to the Civil Rights Act in the 1950 s. These laws were started in the US Supreme Court, though there were fifty states that didn t adopt the laws: Alaska, Arkansas, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Vermont, and Wisconsin. This segregation took place mostly in the south, like the slavery that was going on in the US up until 1865. This leads to the first cause of the Jim Crow laws. Racism: it has been going on since the start of man. White people thought and some still think that they were and are superior to the African American people. It got really bad when the white people enslaved the people of color in 1619 1865. Most of the former slave owners were so furious over the ending of the Jim Crow laws, that they continued to treat the black people terribly. They were ecstatic when the Jim Crow laws were created about fifteen years later so they could appear superior to the black people once again. There were some people who fought for the rights of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), the RTT Assessment Program aimed to provide funds targeted towards a variety of assessments that would provide data on our schools. Data collected would review a number of elements within the education system, especially student achievement across the nation. • 41. Fate and Free Will in Harry Potter One of the most pondered questions in human existence is whether our lives are determined by forces which are beyond our control or by our own free will. It is widely believed that one s own destiny is created by fate. However, some also consider the possibility that one s own choices can determine the reality of one s existence. In Harry Potter, JK Rowling uses fate and choice as forces which shape the events revolving around her protagonist, Harry Potter, as well as the other characters in the story. Rowling does not side with one idea over the other, but instead, argues that both fate and choice are significant factors that determine the events which happen during the course of an individual s development. Upon being assigned to a house, each student strives to follow the standard and expectations of their particular group, whether it is the brave Gryffindors, the loyal Hufflepuffs, the wise Ravenclaws, or the cunning Slytherines. Their house becomes almost like a cult in which they live by: Your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory and spend free time in your house common room (85). Each of the students share the common goal of winning the House Cup for their house. Individualism, therefore, is constrained and each student is forced to act in a particular way in which they are expected to. Aside from the Sorting Hat, other forces of fate also take part in determining the students house associations. For example, Harry is sorted into Gryffindor, the same house his parents belonged to. Similarly every member in the Weasley family had been a Gryffindor, while every member in the Malfoy family had been a Slytherine. This reinforces the idea that the events in each character s life are predestined. Right now I have no idea what I want to do with my life. Hopefully, I will move out of my parents house, get married to someone that I can see spending the rest of my life with and have a couple of children. I want to be a father so my kids can carry on the family name and most importantly to watch them grow up and raise them like my parents have done for my brother and myself. I hope in ten years that I will be at a steady and stable job that I enjoy going to every day and that I make enough money to support my family and not be worrying about money issues. Also, I hope that I m done with school and have achieved the highest degree in my career field and hopefully I have no student loans that I need to payoff. One such challenge is deployment. What is deployment, it is the sending of military personnel and materials to a specific destination from their home installation (Military, 2015). Consumerism absolutizes consumption by believing that we can find fulfillment by accumulating wealth and everything that comes with it. (Wilkins Sanford, 2009). There are many different elements of consumerism I will discuss, along with how this worldview of consumerism compares with the Christian worldview, and lastly, I will express how knowing what the Bible says about consumerism affects my life personally. According to Wilkins and Sanford (2009), there are several elements of a consumerism worldview; accumulating and using things brings fulfillment, money is power, we need just a little bit more, people are viewed as objects to consume, and if something ceases to fulfill me or meet my needs it should be discarded. With the idea that by accumulating and using things brings fulfillment, whether it be fulfillment of material things or fulfillment of emotional needs, this worldview neglects to fulfill our deepest emotional needs leaving us always desiring more to fill that void. Money is power leaves people always striving to accumulate wealth so they can have power and control over situations, because you are only important or significant if you have wealth. • 50. The Central Problems Of International Politics ne of the central problems of international politics is that of cooperation or lack of cooperation. Though, cooperation is not always possible or a welcome idea when it comes to states making decisions. Creating and claiming value are two of the most fundamental aspects of negotiation strategy that exist, but there is tension with one another. In any negotiation, the delegates need to decide which course of action to take whether that be competitive, cooperative, or some of both. David Lax and James Sebenius call this the negotiator s dilemma. It is similar to the prisoners dilemma in game theory, because this is a way of using rational choice and strategic thinking to describe situations. In a book written by D. Lax and J. Sebenius The Manager as Negotiator: The Negotiator s Dilemma: Creating and Claiming Value, the authors argue that negotiation includes both cooperative and competitive elements, and that these elements exist in tension. The dilemma in this situation is in deciding whether to pursue a cooperative or a competitive strategy. The authors suggest several strategies to resolve this dilemma, and how to encourage cooperative approaches to creating mutually beneficial outcomes. Conflict analysts tend to view negotiations either as a matter of cooperating to create value, or as a matter of competing to claim values. In the value creating view, negotiators work primarily to increase the available resources, to find joint gains or win win solutions, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
