Soviet Aggression And Its Effects On The World War II
Introduction
At the beginning of 1930s, the international system changed. There have been significant changes in
all capitalist countries and, as a result of it, the undemocratic leaders get the power, for example Nazi
Regime. The following regime was an exact cause of all upcoming conflicts, especially after elections
of 1933 in Germany, when Hitler came to power. According to a fast moving Nazi aggression across
Germany and Italy, the USSR government decided to come up with a new way of domestic affairs.
The USSR was concerned on not involving itself in any world conflict, especially war. The
cooperation with the Western democratic countries in order to control the aggression of Nazi regimes,
contributed to a creation of a collective ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, French dominant will of the treaty, was to chastise German. Moreover, it illustrates a fast
ache less torture, it exteriorise the idea of a pact influence on Germany. However, it contributed only
to the desperation in country.

Article 231, also well known as the War Guilt Article, was the starting clause of the payment part of
the Treaty of Versailles, which stopped the First World War between the German Empire and the
Allied Associated Powers. The article provided a legal background to enforce Germany to pay
compensations for the war.
Clause 231 was one of the most argumentative bit of the treaty. It stated:
The Allied and Associated Governments affirm and Germany accepts the responsibility of Germany
and her allies for causing all the loss and damage to which the Allied and Associated Governments and
their nationals have been subjected as a consequence of the war imposed upon them by the aggression
of Germany and her allies.
Germans considered this article as a ethnic abasement, imposing Germany to take entire responsibility
for causing the conflict. German legislators tried to encounter the article verbally in an attempt to
create international affinity, while German annalists were focused on undermining the article with an
aim of overturning the entire pact. The Allied rulers were astonished with the German attitude, they
found the clause as the only a crucial juridical base to get reimbursement from Germany.

Essay on African Slave Religion
The Community of Enslaved Africans and their Religious Spiritual Practices.
During a most dark and dismal time in our nations history, we find that the Africans who endured
horrible circumstances during slavery, found ways of peace and hope in their religious beliefs. During
slavery, African s where able to survive unbearable conditions by focusing on their spirituality.
Christianity was amongst the slave community. Being that the vast majority of the slave community
was born in America, converting slaves to Christianity was not a struggle. All slaves were not
Christian, and slaves that had accepted Christianity were not official members of the church. Over
time Slaves made Christianity their own. There would be occurrences where ... Show more content on

African firmly believes that there is a living communion or bond of life which makes for solidarity
among members of the same family. Before Christianity, Africans did have their own system of
salvation. In traditional religions, salvation can and does take the form of courage to face the reality of
morality. The church was looked art as a place for political activity, a source of economic cooperation,
an agency of social control, and a refuge in a hostile white world. Slaves worshiped with great
enthusiasm. Religion, after all, provided a ready refuge from their daily miseries and kindled the hope
that one day their sorrows might end. Planter s actually encouraged religious observances among their
slaves hoping that exposure to Christian precepts might make their laborers more docile, less prone to
run away, and more cooperative and efficient workers. But slaves turned biblical scriptures to their
own purposes forging a theology that often emphasized the theme of liberation. It was easy for them
to see, for example, in the figure of Moses a useful model for their own dreams; like the Israelites,
they too were ready to cross a River Jordan into a promised land of freedom. The religious services
held in the quarters provided slaves with so many positive experiences that, even as they were being
exploited, they managed bravely, but perhaps not too surprisingly, to feel that they were free within
themselves. In this way slaves began to achieve a degree of liberation well

The Historical Causes Of The Winnipeg General Strike In...
Winnipeg General Strike: On, May 1919 a strike occurred in the city of Winnipeg. Workers went on
strike to improve working and living conditions. The employers wanted $0.85/hour and 8 hours of
work/day. May 1st, building and metal traders council voted to go on strike. May 15th, 30 000
workers went on strike as well. Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal went on a strike to support the
strike occurring in Winnipeg. The government declared federal workers to return to work. On June
21st, Bloody Saturday occurred, when the police charged many people. 1 man was killed, 30 injured
and hundreds were killed. The negotiations were not made between strikers and the government
leaders. The strike ended and the strikers thought the strike was a failure. The strike lasted 6 weeks.
The workers were forced to sign the Yellow Dog Contracts which meant they were not allowed to join
a union. (Reilly,2015,1,2,6 para) The historical significance of this event is that workers gathered
together to stand up for their rights and what is right. This was one of the largest strikes that occurred
in Canada. People realized the significance of workers and how they contribute to the community. The

Carol Ann Duffy Rubbish At Adultery
The three poems I am studying are Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy, Rubbish at adultery by Sophie
Hannah and Absence by Elizabeth Jennings. The three poems are each portraying different level of
love relationships, to express their feelings, whether it is trueness, yearning or bitter. The first poem I
am going to study is Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy. In Valentine Duffy introduces the reader to her
own symbol of love, the onion, which is unusual because the onion is a very tremble, malodorous,
bitter and unromantic entity. Duffy throughout the poem uses the onion as a metaphor for love and
develops it in different ways to demonstrate parallels between the onion and love. In Valentine there is
contradiction if Duffy is expressing feelings from a female perspective because usually a woman will
receive a red rose , satin heart and a cute card or kissogram , therefore the persona probably conveys
feelings from a male perspective. Which is a twist by Duffy, a persona who often had a feminist
perspective. In addition Duffy once more has written a poem subject to controversy because there is
negative attitude, a debate in the poem that normal valentines are not as honest this is evident on line
eleven as a single line I am trying to be truthful . For example first and twelfth line is structured as
single lines for attention and both embark on negative adverb not which indicates a rejection of
traditional love. Both lines continues with

America s Relationship With Japan
Before America entered WWII, the U.S. and Japan were trading partners. However, Japan had been
involved in the Pacific Theater of WWII, conquering land across Asia and the Pacific Ocean, before
the U.S. joined the war. As a result, American resources had aided Japan in imperializing other
nations. Critical of America s relationship with Japan, Dr. Seuss released a political cartoon, shown
above. In the cartoon, a man wearing a sweater labeled Japan shops at a store run by a bird, which
dons a hat with a U.S. flag design. The Japanese man orders kerosene, some excelsior and a blow

Essay about Different Perspectives of Cuban Revolution
Different Perspectives of Cuban Revolution
Introduction:
The measures taken by Castro and explicitly stated by him at his trial in 1954, from the very beginning
of his anti Batista movement illustrate his initial desires to reform Cuba and ultimately increase its
standard of living. Different understandings can be perceived by reading various books and documents
that focus on the political changes shaping Cuba s modern day society. Each illustrates different
aspects of the insurrection while simultaneously giving the reader an accurate depiction of the
historical occurrences. Authors Perez Stable and Patterson focus on the turbulent circumstances that
lead Cuba through the various leaders, each with his own agenda trying to ... Show more content on

Because of Cuba s reliance on the export of sugar, Cubans were severely limited in terms of
diversifying its economy and raising its standard of living. According to Perez Stable,
Without diversification, jobs would not be createdand living standards raised...Moving Cuba from
classic dependence on sugar to a new form of dependent capitalism, however, required a realignment
of domestic actors, a new role for the state, and a restructuring of Cuba U.S. relations.
These issues appear as reoccurring themes that build the platforms for many of the reforms sought by
Castro himself. This is because these issues address the focal points of concern for most Cuban
citizens.
The second chapter in Perez Stable s book deals more with the political transitions that shaped Cuba s
societal structure during the turbulent early 1900 s. Corruption and problems with the governmental
structure coincided with the economic crises. Many Cubans fostered anti American sentiments and
regarded the Platt Amendment with much contempt. These feelings arose in part because, Application
of the Platt Amendment was a blatant reminder of the limits of Cuban independence. During these
occurrences, the U.S. vacillated between mediating the Cuban crises and relinquishing ties to the
Cuban government. This stemmed in part from the avid anti American sentiments

When I am a new employee, I am slightly hesitant to try new things. Before even trying, I expect to
fail at whatever I am trying for the first time. Then I worry about the consequences of my imaginary
actions. Yet once I have tried something new and fail, I realized that I am more likely to remember
what I learned. I use this as one of my strengths. When learning to drive a car, I was hesitant to take
the hands on approach right away. Once I realized that this is how I learn, once I spend time out of my
head and contracting one what could go wrong, I am a hands on learner. To this day, I am still learning
that mistakes come in all different shapes and sizes. For example, if I print out something for work

Who Really Decides Abortion
Who Really Decides Abortion?
The advocates for legal abortion, or pro choice believe women should have the right to abortion at any
point during a pregnancy. On the other hand, those against pro choice advocate that any abortion
should be considered murder, and want to protect human life. The landmark Supreme Court case Roe
v Wade (1973) allowed women the right to make their own personal medical decisions regarding
abortion, and pro choice women were then protected by a Constitutional Right to Privacy. In the next
three decades, Supreme Court decisions began to limit the ability for young women, and especially
low income women of color to make the decision to end a pregnancy. The Supreme Court was also
called upon repeatedly to decide whether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We see this isn t the case in real world applications, but it should not require government interest to be
challenged at the highest level in order to outlaw discriminative laws and the lawmaking process. It
comes as no surprise to anyone that abortion restrictions especially in the state of Texas were
discriminative, and the acts of a few who challenged the discriminative lawmaking process takes more
than courage. For example, the Supreme Court s assumption that Men acting as legislators, doctors,
judges, or husbands must have a role in women s private decisions (Daly). The bigger picture of this
presumption should bring light to a question for legislative bodies who have the power to pass laws.
Should legislative bodies be considered in contempt for crimes of discrimination for allowing such a
burden towards women to exist. Restrictions passed went against the governmental structure of
political culture laid before us by our Founding Fathers, and after 2 decades some of the previously

The Role Of Commercialism In White Noise By Don Delillo
Life...Made better This is promising the slogan for Dash In convenience stores. It is a promise that
stopping at their store will improve your life. It is a promise that you are not lying to yourself every
time you step through those glass doors. In the book White Noise by Don Delillo, readers experience
the story of this kind of lie and it s consequences. It follows an introspective college professor and his
dealings with his fear of death. It does so against the background of a busy family life, full of colorful
characters. White Noise highlights the truths of humanity in a satirical fashion, expertly weaving the
American dream into the troubled psyche of the main character, Jack. White Noise reveals that the
modern tools of humanity are shallow protections against the reality of life and death.
The role of blinding commercialism in people s lives is to provide comfort in its repetitiveness and
thoughtlessness. Commercialism does not encourage deep thought by any means, it prays on the quick
impulses of the human mind. Murray points this out when talking to Jack about his students and their
dislike of television, Look at the wealth of data concealed in the grid, in the bright packaging, the
jingles, the slice of life commercials, the products hurtling out of darkness, the coded messages and
endless repetitions, like chants, like mantras. (51). Murray s studying the television shows just how
much can be learned about humankind from it. Through the use of a simile,

referred in the advertisements, but this does not improve the patient communication, as most of the

patient, rather than talk more about the condition leading to over medicated and unhealthy society.

Disillusionment In The Great Gatsby Analysis
The 1920 s were a time of peace after World War I. However, the harrowing events of the war caused
people to become disillusioned with the American Dream. F. Scott Fitzgerald demonstrates this in his
novel The Great Gatsby. Different elements of the book represent different ways in which the
American Dream declined. Tom and Myrtle s affair shows how people lacked morality, Daisy s
marriage with Tom demonstrates how people gave up happiness for money, Wilson s anger at the
billboard of T.J. Eckleberg represents how the American people felt that God was punishing them, and
Nick s final words to the reader exemplify that repetition of the past is inevitable. Throughout the
novel, Fitzgerald created situations to exhibit disillusionment with ... Show more content on

The end of World War I was, in actuality, just a predecessor for World War II. With brief peace, the
feeling of uneasiness loomed. In Lost Generation in the 1920s: 1919 1927, Carlisle states, Thus in
Europe, World War I clearly gave birth to a set of discontents that would coalesce into World War II,
(Carlisle). This feeling resided in the minds of the people. Fitzgerald expressed this in the last words
of the novel, narrated by Nick Carraway, So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back
ceaselessly into the past, (180). The current is the inevitability of the past recurring. Fitzgerald ends
the novel this way to exhibit that all the events of the war are bound to repeat, and to cement the idea
that humanity will never morally advance. This belief of hopelessness is the last element in the multi
faceted predicament of the American people s disillusionment. F. Scott Fitzgerald used different
components to represent the post war disenchantment with the American Dream. Myrtle s immoral
actions exemplify the lack of respect for ethics, Daisy s marriage shows the preference of the
American People of wealth over happiness, Wilson s anger reflects the feeling of punishment from
God, and the final words of the book display the inevitability of the past repeating. Given the political

Huck Finn Symbolism
Huckleberry Finn: His Journey to Self Discovery
There were many reasons why Mark Twain wrote The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Twain was
trying to point out all the flaws or corrupt judgments that society considered okay to have during that
time. Twain was trying to show that people don t change but they should be mindful of how their
actions and opinions are affecting society. This book also showed that people didn t really have much
freedom, even living in a free country many people were held back by beliefs, authority, age, race, etc.
The author, Mark Twain, also showcased many symbols throughout the book. One symbol that is the
main character, Huckleberry Finn. Huck Finn symbolizes America. Both were born free and were
trying to fight for their freedom back. Two other symbols that I noticed were the river and raft. The
river first represented the possibility of Jim and Huck finding freedom from their imprisonment, but
later on in the book the river represented the actual freedom of the friends. The raft symbolized the
friendship of Jim the slave and Huckleberry Finn the abused child. The two spent lots of time bonding
on the raft as it drifted them to their freedom. All three symbols connect to the author s purpose. The
main connection of the symbols is freedom, but they also help prove that a simple friendship can
break the pattern of the hypocritical ways of society. In The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Mark
Twain uses the protagonist to symbolize self

Ancient Greek Customs
An important festival that occurs is Genesia, especially Athenians, which is a general state festival
where they honor the souls of the dead (Ogden 2007, 88). Ancient Greeks believed that certain rites
were due to those that had passed; death was seen as a passage that was to be marked with a ceremony
(Ogden 2007, 86). Funeral and mourning customs in ancient Greece were very uniform (Ogden 2007,

religious customs devoted to the continual appeasement of both those who had already been properly
buried and those who had not received the due rites (Ogden 2007, 88). It was typical that families of

Art Within Cave Dwellings Dating
One of the earliest evidences of the belief in a higher power comes from deep within the Lascaux
Labyrinth , a deep cave decorated by our Paleolithic ancestors in the stone age, seventeen thousand
years ago (Armstrong 2). The great numbers and locations of art within the Lascaux and surrounding
region gives evidence that these were sacred places for the purpose of rituals, and some have
compared these dwellings to temples (Armstrong 3). Whether art within cave dwellings dating back to
the Paleolithic era, to magnificent churches rising to great heights around the world, the wondrous
temples of the Mayans, a mountain that appears to seamlessly morph into the city of Machu Picchu, to
trailers, tents and fortified compounds, belief in a power higher than one s self has been deeply
ingrained throughout centuries and a multitude of cultures. These different places are what many refer
to as a church, a place to record and follow the rituals specific to their belief and to worship. Through
the generations of the development of the human psyche, belief in a higher power is taught young and
ingrained for many, yet meaningless for some. Furthermore, throughout the evolution of many
centuries, it is inevitable that branches of these religions will follow a different path, create new
churches to better practice their views of religion, and for some, belief in a higher power can be
contorted to the preaching s and worship of hate. There is a fine line between preaching scriptures and

Circle Sentencing as Alternative Dispute Resolutions
While the restorative justice movement has risen in recent years, the idea of circle sentencing, or
peacemaking circles has been practiced in indigenous cultures for quite some time. As we look at
implementing traditional indigenous culture practices as alternative dispute resolutions, we need to
realize the effectiveness and also whether we are ready to use them. The Yukon and other communities
reintroduced circles in 1991 as a practice of the restorative justice movement (Bazemore, 1997, p.27).
Around that same time, Minnesota made the breakthrough in borrowing the practices with each band

They do have the members of most courtrooms with a judge, probation officer, court recorder, and
community members along with the victim and their family. Since the processes are so community
orientated, the actual process of the circle will vary (Roberts, 1996, p.70.) During traditional settings,
prayer at the beginning of the sentence will occur, along with some sort of sacred object, which is
usually a feather that members pass to one another as a talking stick. This gives the person holding the
feather the power to say what they feel, and give the process a sense of organization, and most
importantly, it prevents one on one confrontations (Ulrich, 1999, p.425).
What problems occur with the implementation of aboriginal circles?
When looking at the current criminal justice system in Canada, New Zealand, and Australia, it is clear
that it has failed in the treatment of aboriginal people. This problem has strengthened the idea of
restorative justice as a replacement of the traditional system. When looking at implementing circles
into that realm of restorative justice, there needs to be an agreement that their practices are diverse,
and therefore not to force the issue. Many traditional practices are very spiritually based, and it needs
to be evident that

Roe V. Wade Case Study
In 1973, the Supreme Court took on the case of Roe v. Wade. This Supreme Court case was based on
the right of privacy in reference to abortion. The case ruled that the U.S Constitution effectively
mandates a nationwide policy of abortion on demand. This case is one of the most criticized cases in
Supreme Court history.
The court ruled in a 7 2 vote that the right to privacy under the 14th amendment extended to a women
s decision to have an abortion. However, the right must be balanced against the state s interest in
regulation abortion. Those included protecting prenatal life and protecting women s health. The court
stated that state regulation of abortion is resolved to the third trimester of pregnancy.
Roe believed that the person has

Performance Analysis
A Monologue is an extended, uninterrupted speech by a character in drama. It is used to experience
and understand the thoughts and/or feelings of the character. The task required a four to five minute
solo production on a character using various forms of theatre and a creative, original idea.
The theme of my performance was Your Past Haunts Your Present. This was represented in the
performance where Katie, the protagonist, set out on a journey to escape her constant fear of being
brutally attacked. She suffers from post traumatic stress after this event. The actions of talking to a
counsellor about the traumatic experience and proving the attacker guilty were all steps to contribute
to her recovery. It seemed that this did not help her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some aspects of the performance could have been improved dramatically on the solo performance in
general.
The performance as an experience, confidence building and extended myself outside of my comfort
zone which was a challenge. Within a group situation this issue is not an issue at all. I was not being
completely comfortable in my character. I thought I was taking a risk which perhaps may have been
too great.
Many improvements could have been made enhance my performance to a higher level. A suggestion
which was thought of after the fact was to punch glass with a clenched fist with one hand rather than
two hands and smashing it side ways. This was the weakest point of my performance and made me
lose confident with my acting.
Despite the fact scene one ended too abruptly that it was a technical issue, rather than my own it
influenced my performance to the extent some may not have made sense.
The performance itself was adequate however it could have been improved. Playing a person suffering
from PTS was interesting and complex. It allowed me to practice my dramatic skills and extend
myself overall. The pitch of my voice could have been improved, and stronger, but it seemed to suit
my character well. Pauses are used to emphasis important phrases. Long, necessary pauses contributed
to my play especially in the third and final scene. Although my character had a low, troubled voice,
projection always has to be good and my voice could

Summary Of The Reverse Dive By Jessamyn Hope
And it hits me, not then, but today, thirty years later. Thirty years too late (91). Those are the words of
Jessamyn Hope when speaking about her experience with regret regarding her life s decisions, the
major theme for her essay. Her essay tells the story about how she failed to overcome two life
challenges, one having a direct physical impact and the other having a delayed impact. The essay The
Reverse Dive by Jessamyn Hope is a narrative essay looking to persuade its reader through the use of
analogy, empirical evidence, and appeal to emotion that one should face their challenges while they
can to avoid regrets.
Hope uses the analogy of the reverse dive and copping with her mother s illness to convey to the
reader that being around a loved one when experiencing something like this could be as scary as
attempting a death defying trick. These two challenges are implied to be connected. Hope states that
the reverse dive [...] had been haunting [her] for over a year (77). She has been avoiding attempting it
and she is afraid of what could come with trying it. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her use of the diving story really allowed her to express her experience with her mother without the
reader feeling unable to relate, the fact that these events happened directly to her gave her whole
argument more power due to the fact that she is able to say she did that first hand and she felt guilt
prior to the events, and her appeal to emotion allowed her to give the reader a glimpse of the regret she
felt thinking back on the whole experience. It is very challenging to think back on painful events and
critique what one did wrong, Hopes essay urges the reader to try overcome their challenges so they
won t be able to share the same feeling as regret as she

Life Can Bring Out The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly
Life can bring out the good, the bad, and the ugly. Most people can identify one person who shares
these three traits. Heroes usually take the form of the good, while villains take the form of the bad or
even the ugly. However, one thing remains certain. Most people who are brought up to become heroes
are unsung heroes. They are not famous, nor recognized for their deeds. Instead, this breed of heroes
commits themselves to the greater good, not to the fame or extravagant lives some heroes eventually
live. Ho Chi Minh is one example of this. His actions throughout the course of his life were for the
greater good of the Vietnamese people. In the year 1890, a person whose name will be known

independence was when he took part in protests against the French in 1908. As a result of this, he was
expelled from the National Academy in Hue where he was studying. He then moved to Southern
Vietnam where he became a school teacher in 1909. After 2 years of teaching, he decided to work as a
cook at a French Steamship Company. For two years he traveled the world on a steamship and visited

Thai, Chinese, Russian, and English. These skills would help him later in life. When World War 1

insight on how persuasive he was, and how his social skills helped him greatly. People working with

would become a full fledged communist. He became a symbol of the Vietnamese community in

Differences Of Sundiata And The Epic Of Gilgamesh
Sundiata, West African King of Mali, spent most of his childhood years physically impaired, later
gaining powers and capabilities to serve in his given position. Gilgamesh, on the contrary is the King
of Uruk and a tyrant beast who has promiscuous characteristics. In both epics, the protagonists venture
out on journeys to pursue different goals. In terms of geographic location, Sundiata s passage occurs
in western African amongst the Mande people in the Mali Empire (Miller 354). On the other hand, the
Epic of Gilgamesh focuses on Sumerians in Mesopotamia (Modern day Iraq) (Miller 27, 30). The two
historical epics have many parallel themes such as origins, superhuman traits, and heroism; amongst
these are also many differences, for example the battles fought by both Kings and dependence on
technologies in different cultures.
Origins and Potentially Flawed History. The primary and most significant trait that both epics have in
common is the origins. Before the stories were written down, they were told orally and passed down
as oral histories. Griots serve as the primary form of verbal translation and histories; playing major
roles in passing down the Sundiata Epic (Miller 342). The Epic of Gilgamesh is later written down on
sun dried clay tablets in cuneiform. Miller describes cuneiform as a written script of wedge shaped
marks (Miller 29). Moreover, both stories carry flaws in their histories. It is likely that points are left
out of both historical tales. In western

The Vampire Is Not A New Manifestation Of The Fears Of A...
The vampire is not by any means a new manifestation of the fears of a society. Their presence in
human culture can be traced back for centuries in human folklore. The first Anglicized representations
of the creature in literature date back to the English poetry of the early 1700s, and were then followed
in the fiction genre by such works as John William Polidori s The Vampyre, Sheridan Le Fanu s
Carmilla, and of course, Bram Stoker s Dracula. For the audiences of the 18th century, vampires
embodied many of the following common fears shared between the people: of illness, both mental and
epidemic, of an embraced sexuality, particularly that of women s and homosexuals , and of foreigners.
As the archetypical vampire evolved throughout the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Butler s vampires do not embody the fears and anxieties of the society they infiltrate; rather, Butler
shifts the monstrosity from the vampiric figure to the social ills those figures face. The reader is not
inspired to reject the vampire as villain but rather to demonize the systematic oppression which, in the
case of Fledgling, the protagonist struggles against. The vampire then, in Butler s work, has evolved
beyond its current literary form. Science is as integral as myth in the text, and Shori, Butler s dark
skinned, female, sanguinarian protagonist is not only a progressive creature of legend but a
manufactured being blending the technology of the human body with that of the Ina. Shori cannot
simply be categorized alongside many other vampires because of this distinction she stands above and
beyond, blending race and transcending concepts of creation and origin in order to forge a new
identity for the vampire in literature. She truly stands as a stepping point toward the elusive cyborg a
new biological citizenship being crafted by her very existence in Butler s universe, and what else is
the cyborg but an attempt at that very determination of self? Before addressing the cyborg, the concept
of the other and its place in Butler s novel must be addressed as the bridge between the two theories.
Friedrich Wilhelm Hegel was one of the first philosophers to define the concept of otherness and the

The Man In The High Castle Analysis
Human Reliance on Outside Forces
We live in the world our questions create (David Cooperrider). Inquiry is the base of society, all
answers come from questions that were once asked. Questioning can influence people s decisions to
act in certain ways and determine how they live, and people s lives change the world. The Man in the
High Castle, written by Philip K Dick, follows a full cast of characters from an endangered Jewish
man named Frank Frink to a high up Japanese man named Mr. Tagomi. The book takes place in a
world after World War Two, but one very different from present time, a world where Germany and
Japan, along with the other Axis powers, won the war. The planet is overcome with racism and
distrust. Jewish people are killed every day and the ones still alive are forced into hiding and change
their names. Both men live very different lives, Frink is in hiding as a Jew while Tagomi is a wealthy
antique seller. The one thing they have in common is the I Ching, a highly regarded oracle of sorts. It
predicts the future and provides advice along with it; and everyone follows that advice no matter what
they are told. They do this partially because after the Axis powers won the war, every person was
required to have an I Ching in their home. This caused the residents to become reliant on the oracle for
their every need. The I Ching provides advice in the form of special hexagrams which have a
corresponding prophecy of sorts. In The Man in the High Castle Philip K.

Who Is Andrew Jackson A Good President
It is hard to argue that any president of the United States has made no mistakes; however, Andrew
Jackson left a long lasting impact on presidency campaigns and made it what it is today. In reference
to the Great President Model Lecture, Jackson falls under the category of being great for multiple
reasons; one is being that he had served more than one term, another that he accomplished something
of long term importance and significance. In the two terms he had served, he had forever changed the
way campaigns are held. Jackson had a very bias opinion and somewhat of a short temper. Since he
was president, he often times made rash decisions without having others opinions and that upset many
people. Andrew Jackson was a very independent man and thought he could make many decisions on

Music Culture And The Music Industry
Born in the late 1950 s, my dad, Robert, has experienced, first hand, the vast changes in the music
industry. The first step into the music culture was at the start of middle school when my dad joined the
school band. Playing the trumpet and baritone was the bait that caused him to become immersed in
music. This initial love of music led to the creation of a garage band with a group of friends adding
piano and guitar to the mix. Age 13 signified the second step into the music industry with the purchase
of his first record, the Eagles Hotel California . This catchy tune was my dad s first record because the
lyrics and beat had an appeal most other songs did not have at the time. Five years later, marked the
third step into the music industry by attending his first concert, The Who. This concert left a lasting
impression on anyone who witnessed it because it was not just the radio anymore, it gave a visual
form to the music. Listening to a song on the radio and witnessing the band members perform the song
live are two vastly different experiences. That being said, it has been years since my dad has attended
a concert. Although the concert was initially an experience that left a lasting impression on my father,
it did not turn him into a concert fanatic. As he grew and matured over the years, as did his taste in
music. Through his travels with the United States Air Force, he was exposed to a broad variety of
cultures along with their different music and sounds. Although his

Hollywood Sexism
Power in Hollywood
Women are more than 50 percent of the population in America. Everyday woman face sexism but,
Hollywood in particular has many cases of misogynism. Despite Hollywood projecting progressive
ideas they severely lack in the sexism part. Misogynist portrayal of women in Hollywood results from
men having the power in Hollywood.
Women are a low percent of those behind the camera. In 2014, a whopping 85 percent of films had no
female directors, 80 percent had no female writers, and one third lacked female producers, according
to a San Diego State University study (Davidson). How can there be strong women characters if there
are not that many women working behind the scenes? With the lack of women behind the camera, the
roles women play are often degrading and sexist. Women are often portrayed in service jobs such as
waitresses instead of in leadership roles. In the top 500 films from 2007 2012, 28.8 percent of women
wore sexually revealing clothes while men only accounted for 7 percent (IndieWire). TV and movies
teach girls from a young age that they are meant to be a wife or homemaker and not much else. It is
hard to dream to be a doctor or a CEO of a big company if you do not see it when you turn on the TV.
And it is not that women are not qualified to work behind the camera, they are just not given the
chance. It is hard to change your portrayal in film and TV if you are not the one writing the characters
or directing.

The Evil Force In Beowulf
In the darkness of time, there will come a time in someone s life that might refer to an evil force.
Whether it was a bad day, an upset parent or a person of political power. In Beowulf the warriors had
to overcome a very large force of evil that seems to put an extravagant tole on the town and the way
that they prosper in life everyday. As the monster of the town decides to overturn his trust with
beowulf s father and break the peace offering, he murders numerous of innocent people. Lying dead
and motionless, the town goes up in flames, there was no fire but they were flames of fear. In the
towns distress, people began to lose hope and prosperity. The townsmen eventually felt hopeless, a
destructive force of evil was tearing their friends and family limb by limb, vein by vein. The monster
had no sympathy for what he was doing. Before this evil force came up from the depth of evil,
everything was so perfect for everyone. There never seemed to be any dramatic issues, but that all
came to a close. So times were pleasant for the people there until finally one, a fiend out of hell, began
to work his evil in the world. (Beowulf 99 101). All he cared about what was his next meal going to
be. Coming in the far sight of the deep ocean came a hero that was so long waited for. As it stated in

How Camping Can Be A Responsible Camper While You Enjoy...
Camping is a fun, low cost way to enjoy the summer with family and friends. Here are a few tips that
will help you be a responsible camper while you enjoy the wild. 1. For bug repellent try citronella
candles and Avon Skin So Soft instead of toxic chemical insect repellents. 2. Wear long sleeves and
long pants at dawn and dusk when insects are most active. 3. Stay on trails to protect habitat and avoid
snake encounters. Snakes sense vibrations, so walking with a buddy or a group is not only wise, it will
announce your presence to snakes who just want to avoid encountering YOU! 4. Invest in a good
sleeping pad, or at the least, put an exercise mat under your sleeping bag. 5. Block ice lasts longer than
bagged ice. Make your own at home by filling milk jugs or water bottles. The less you open the
cooler, the longer the ice will last. 6. Never hang lanterns on trees because the heat can cause serious
harm. 7. Pack a small plastic bucket for dish washing and never use the bathhouse sink for this task. 8.
Hungry critters can be very clever and destructive. Keep food locked in vehicles or tied up in trees. 9.
Freeze chili, soups and stews in zip lock bags, then heat them after they thaw. The frozen bags help
keep ice from melting in the cooler. Rice and pasta can also be cooked ahead of time and reheated on a
camp stove. 10. Pita pockets keep their shape better than loaf bread. 11. Disposable water bottles make
great dispensers for salad dressings and sauces. 12.

Marie Curie Chapter Summary
A third book that attempts to fix the leaky pipeline is Marie Curie (Giants of Science) by Kathleen
Krull. This book walks the reader through the life of the famous scientist Marie Curie, who conducted
research on radioactivity throughout her years as a chemist. It focuses a lot on her personal life, which
included multiple periods of depression. One of the ways she would get out of her sadness is by
conducting research and studying. Krull explains how Yet her sadness was eventually lifted, perhaps
as a results of forcing herself to keep so busy. Education became an obsession (Krull, 2009, p. 20).
Marie believed from a young age that, as a woman, she was just as intelligent as men were, although
many people during that time did not think so. When pondering this thought, Marie glossed right over
Comte s assertion that women were naturally inferior . Instead, she treasured a contemporary novelist,
Eliza Orzeszkowa, who wrote that a woman possesses the same rights as a man...to learning and
knowledge (Krull, 2009, p. 25). Much like Henrietta in Look Up!, Marie Curie overcame societal
pressure to not chase the dreams that she was passionate about. She showed the whole world how
smart a woman could be, and she went on to win several awards, including two Nobel Peace Prizes. ...

Conformity In Today s Society
Everybody strives to survive and has a will to stay alive. This is easily achieved by attaining the basic
necessities for survival; water, food, and shelter. In Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games, individuals
have access to all of these, although they may sometimes struggle to actually come into their
possession. Even still, these are not enough to ensure survival in the world of Panem. The Capitol uses
totalitarianism to govern its people, controlling every single aspect of every single person s life. This
system brings survival to a completely new level in this society: conformity. Suzanne Collins utilizes
her novel s characters, along with their wills to survive, to convey that conformity is key to survival,
even in the real world. To conform ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Not conforming to society s expectations, or even just standing out in any manner, can affect an
individual and how they are treated by others. They can be seen as an outsider and could potentially be
treated in such a way that could impact them negatively, hindering their survival. Within a group of
adolescents, this can be seen through teasing. In a group of adults, this is exemplified by constant
criticism of one s actions and choices. Suzanne Collins believes that in order to survive in the world
today, you must follow social norms, to a certain degree, in order to be happy in the long run. This is
extremely relevant today, as opposed to society over twenty years ago, as the modern age is extremely
individualized. Everybody is encouraged to be themselves, but within a set boundary of norms, which
is ironic. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is an entertaining work of fiction, yet it unveils
truths pertaining to society today. Survival in terms of staying alive is typically not an issue in our
world, but survival in terms of being socially accepted is. Suzanne Collins beliefs on conformity and
survival explain that former is impossible without the latter. Survival cannot be achieved without
conforming to any degree, as depicted by the Capitol s totalitarianism and the importance of sponsors
in The Hunger Games. Be yourself, just not too

duty, in my opinion, he owes to those whom he intends to consume his product. This concluded that
Stevenson did owed a duty of care to Donoghue even though she is not the one who bought the drink

Atkin put forward the neighbour principle, which states that:

systems, they also carry the potential of imposing irreversible physiological impairment to patients
and their families. In an effort to ameliorate cost inflation, undue detriment, and the potential for
litigation, a multifactorial approach must be taken to improve patient outcomes. Key components in
allaying drug related errors from a nursing perspective include: implementing safety and quality
measures, understanding the roles and responsibilities of the nurse, embracing technological
safeguards, incorporating interdisciplinary collaborative efforts, and continued emphasis upon quality
control. From a pragmatic standpoint, the nurse is ultimately the last line of defense before a potential
ADE reaches the patient (Tzeng, Yin, Schneider, 2013). As such, methods which promote quality and
safety play a

It stated: The Allied and Associated Governments affirm and Germany accepts the responsibility of Germany and her allies for causing all the loss and damage to which the Allied and Associated Governments and their nationals have been subjected as a consequence of the war imposed upon them by the aggression of Germany and her allies. Germans considered this article as a ethnic abasement, imposing Germany to take entire responsibility for causing the conflict. German legislators tried to encounter the article verbally in an attempt to create international affinity, while German annalists were focused on undermining the article with an aim of overturning the entire pact. The Allied rulers were astonished with the German attitude, they found the clause as the only a crucial juridical base to get reimbursement from Germany. The historians ... The church was looked art as a place for political activity, a source of economic cooperation, an agency of social control, and a refuge in a hostile white world. Slaves worshiped with great enthusiasm. Religion, after all, provided a ready refuge from their daily miseries and kindled the hope that one day their sorrows might end. Planter s actually encouraged religious observances among their slaves hoping that exposure to Christian precepts might make their laborers more docile, less prone to run away, and more cooperative and efficient workers. But slaves turned biblical scriptures to their own purposes forging a theology that often emphasized the theme of liberation. It was easy for them to see, for example, in the figure of Moses a useful model for their own dreams; like the Israelites, they too were ready to cross a River Jordan into a promised land of freedom. The religious services held in the quarters provided slaves with so many positive experiences that, even as they were being exploited, they managed bravely, but perhaps not too surprisingly, to feel that they were free within themselves. The three poems are each portraying different level of love relationships, to express their feelings, whether it is trueness, yearning or bitter. The first poem I am going to study is Valentine by Carol Ann Duffy. In Valentine Duffy introduces the reader to her own symbol of love, the onion, which is unusual because the onion is a very tremble, malodorous, bitter and unromantic entity. Duffy throughout the poem uses the onion as a metaphor for love and develops it in different ways to demonstrate parallels between the onion and love. In Valentine there is contradiction if Duffy is expressing feelings from a female perspective because usually a woman will receive a red rose , satin heart and a cute card or kissogram , therefore the persona probably conveys feelings from a male perspective. Which is a twist by Duffy, a persona who often had a feminist perspective. In addition Duffy once more has written a poem subject to controversy because there is negative attitude, a debate in the poem that normal valentines are not as honest this is evident on line eleven as a single line I am trying to be truthful . For example first and twelfth line is structured as single lines for attention and both embark on negative adverb not which indicates a rejection of traditional love. Both lines continues with ... Twain was trying to point out all the flaws or corrupt judgments that society considered okay to have during that time. Twain was trying to show that people don t change but they should be mindful of how their actions and opinions are affecting society. This book also showed that people didn t really have much freedom, even living in a free country many people were held back by beliefs, authority, age, race, etc. The author, Mark Twain, also showcased many symbols throughout the book. One symbol that is the main character, Huckleberry Finn. Huck Finn symbolizes America. Both were born free and were trying to fight for their freedom back. Two other symbols that I noticed were the river and raft. The river first represented the possibility of Jim and Huck finding freedom from their imprisonment, but later on in the book the river represented the actual freedom of the friends. The raft symbolized the friendship of Jim the slave and Huckleberry Finn the abused child. The two spent lots of time bonding on the raft as it drifted them to their freedom. Whether art within cave dwellings dating back to the Paleolithic era, to magnificent churches rising to great heights around the world, the wondrous temples of the Mayans, a mountain that appears to seamlessly morph into the city of Machu Picchu, to trailers, tents and fortified compounds, belief in a power higher than one s self has been deeply ingrained throughout centuries and a multitude of cultures. • 26. Life Can Bring Out The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly Life can bring out the good, the bad, and the ugly. Most people can identify one person who shares these three traits. Heroes usually take the form of the good, while villains take the form of the bad or even the ugly. However, one thing remains certain. Most people who are brought up to become heroes are unsung heroes. They are not famous, nor recognized for their deeds. Instead, this breed of heroes commits themselves to the greater good, not to the fame or extravagant lives some heroes eventually live. Ho Chi Minh is one example of this. • 27. Differences Of Sundiata And The Epic Of Gilgamesh Sundiata, West African King of Mali, spent most of his childhood years physically impaired, later gaining powers and capabilities to serve in his given position. Gilgamesh, on the contrary is the King of Uruk and a tyrant beast who has promiscuous characteristics. In both epics, the protagonists venture out on journeys to pursue different goals. In terms of geographic location, Sundiata s passage occurs in western African amongst the Mande people in the Mali Empire (Miller 354). On the other hand, the Epic of Gilgamesh focuses on Sumerians in Mesopotamia (Modern day Iraq) (Miller 27, 30). The two historical epics have many parallel themes such as origins, superhuman traits, and heroism; amongst these are also many differences, for example the battles fought by both Kings and dependence on technologies in different cultures. Origins and Potentially Flawed History. The primary and most significant trait that both epics have in common is the origins. Before the stories were written down, they were told orally and passed down as oral histories. Griots serve as the primary form of verbal translation and histories; playing major roles in passing down the Sundiata Epic (Miller 342). The Epic of Gilgamesh is later written down on sun dried clay tablets in cuneiform. Miller describes cuneiform as a written script of wedge shaped marks (Miller 29). Moreover, both stories carry flaws in their histories. It is likely that points are left out of both historical tales. In western ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 29. The Vampire Is Not A New Manifestation Of The Fears Of A... The vampire is not by any means a new manifestation of the fears of a society. Their presence in human culture can be traced back for centuries in human folklore. The first Anglicized representations of the creature in literature date back to the English poetry of the early 1700s, and were then followed in the fiction genre by such works as John William Polidori s The Vampyre, Sheridan Le Fanu s Carmilla, and of course, Bram Stoker s Dracula. For the audiences of the 18th century, vampires embodied many of the following common fears shared between the people: of illness, both mental and epidemic, of an embraced sexuality, particularly that of women s and homosexuals , and of foreigners. Butler s vampires do not embody the fears and anxieties of the society they infiltrate; rather, Butler shifts the monstrosity from the vampiric figure to the social ills those figures face. The reader is not inspired to reject the vampire as villain but rather to demonize the systematic oppression which, in the case of Fledgling, the protagonist struggles against. The vampire then, in Butler s work, has evolved beyond its current literary form. Science is as integral as myth in the text, and Shori, Butler s dark skinned, female, sanguinarian protagonist is not only a progressive creature of legend but a manufactured being blending the technology of the human body with that of the Ina. Shori cannot simply be categorized alongside many other vampires because of this distinction she stands above and beyond, blending race and transcending concepts of creation and origin in order to forge a new identity for the vampire in literature. She truly stands as a stepping point toward the elusive cyborg a new biological citizenship being crafted by her very existence in Butler s universe, and what else is the cyborg but an attempt at that very determination of self? Before addressing the cyborg, the concept of the other and its place in Butler s novel must be addressed as the bridge between the two theories. Friedrich Wilhelm Hegel was one of the first philosophers to define the concept of otherness and the other. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 30. The Man In The High Castle Analysis Human Reliance on Outside Forces We live in the world our questions create (David Cooperrider). Inquiry is the base of society, all answers come from questions that were once asked. Questioning can influence people s decisions to act in certain ways and determine how they live, and people s lives change the world. The Man in the High Castle, written by Philip K Dick, follows a full cast of characters from an endangered Jewish man named Frank Frink to a high up Japanese man named Mr. Tagomi. The book takes place in a world after World War Two, but one very different from present time, a world where Germany and Japan, along with the other Axis powers, won the war. The planet is overcome with racism and distrust. Jewish people are killed every day and the ones still alive are forced into hiding and change their names. Both men live very different lives, Frink is in hiding as a Jew while Tagomi is a wealthy antique seller. The one thing they have in common is the I Ching, a highly regarded oracle of sorts. It predicts the future and provides advice along with it; and everyone follows that advice no matter what they are told. They do this partially because after the Axis powers won the war, every person was required to have an I Ching in their home. This caused the residents to become reliant on the oracle for their every need. The I Ching provides advice in the form of special hexagrams which have a corresponding prophecy of sorts. In the two terms he had served, he had forever changed the way campaigns are held. Jackson had a very bias opinion and somewhat of a short temper. • 32. Music Culture And The Music Industry Born in the late 1950 s, my dad, Robert, has experienced, first hand, the vast changes in the music industry. The first step into the music culture was at the start of middle school when my dad joined the school band. Playing the trumpet and baritone was the bait that caused him to become immersed in music. This initial love of music led to the creation of a garage band with a group of friends adding piano and guitar to the mix. Age 13 signified the second step into the music industry with the purchase of his first record, the Eagles Hotel California . This catchy tune was my dad s first record because the lyrics and beat had an appeal most other songs did not have at the time. Five years later, marked the third step into the music industry by attending his first concert, The Who. This concert left a lasting impression on anyone who witnessed it because it was not just the radio anymore, it gave a visual form to the music. Listening to a song on the radio and witnessing the band members perform the song live are two vastly different experiences. That being said, it has been years since my dad has attended a concert. Although the concert was initially an experience that left a lasting impression on my father, it did not turn him into a concert fanatic. Despite Hollywood projecting progressive ideas they severely lack in the sexism part. Misogynist portrayal of women in Hollywood results from men having the power in Hollywood. Women are a low percent of those behind the camera. In 2014, a whopping 85 percent of films had no female directors, 80 percent had no female writers, and one third lacked female producers, according to a San Diego State University study (Davidson). How can there be strong women characters if there are not that many women working behind the scenes? With the lack of women behind the camera, the roles women play are often degrading and sexist. Women are often portrayed in service jobs such as waitresses instead of in leadership roles. In the top 500 films from 2007 2012, 28.8 percent of women wore sexually revealing clothes while men only accounted for 7 percent (IndieWire). TV and movies teach girls from a young age that they are meant to be a wife or homemaker and not much else. It is hard to dream to be a doctor or a CEO of a big company if you do not see it when you turn on the TV. This book walks the reader through the life of the famous scientist Marie Curie, who conducted research on radioactivity throughout her years as a chemist. It focuses a lot on her personal life, which included multiple periods of depression. One of the ways she would get out of her sadness is by conducting research and studying. Krull explains how Yet her sadness was eventually lifted, perhaps as a results of forcing herself to keep so busy. Education became an obsession (Krull, 2009, p. 20). Marie believed from a young age that, as a woman, she was just as intelligent as men were, although many people during that time did not think so. When pondering this thought, Marie glossed right over Comte s assertion that women were naturally inferior . Instead, she treasured a contemporary novelist, Eliza Orzeszkowa, who wrote that a woman possesses the same rights as a man...to learning and knowledge (Krull, 2009, p. 25). In Suzanne Collins The Hunger Games, individuals have access to all of these, although they may sometimes struggle to actually come into their possession. Even still, these are not enough to ensure survival in the world of Panem. The Capitol uses totalitarianism to govern its people, controlling every single aspect of every single person s life. Within a group of adolescents, this can be seen through teasing. In a group of adults, this is exemplified by constant criticism of one s actions and choices. Suzanne Collins believes that in order to survive in the world today, you must follow social norms, to a certain degree, in order to be happy in the long run. This is extremely relevant today, as opposed to society over twenty years ago, as the modern age is extremely individualized. Medication Errors From A Nursing Medication Errors Shonda Delmage Baker College of Cadillac 04/24/2015 Medication Errors Each year, roughly 1.5 million adverse drug events (ADEs) occur in acute and long term care settings across America (Institute of Medicine [IOM], 2006). An ADE is succinctly defined as actual or potential patient harm resulting from a medication error. To expound further, while ADEs may result from oversights related to prescribing or dispensing, 26 32% of all erroneous drug interventions occur during the nursing administration and monitoring phases (Anderson Townsend, 2010). These mollifiable mishaps not only create a formidable financial burden for health care systems, they also carry the potential of imposing irreversible physiological impairment to patients and their families. In an effort to ameliorate cost inflation, undue detriment, and the potential for litigation, a multifactorial approach must be taken to improve patient outcomes. Key components in allaying drug related errors from a nursing perspective include: implementing safety and quality measures, understanding the roles and responsibilities of the nurse, embracing technological safeguards, incorporating interdisciplinary collaborative efforts, and continued emphasis upon quality control. From a pragmatic standpoint, the nurse is ultimately the last line of defense before a potential ADE reaches the patient (Tzeng, Yin, Schneider, 2013).
