Nursing Ethics Case Study
At 12 noon on 12 November 2007, Mrs McKay Hall s vital signs were quite abnormal (pulse 140,
respiration rate 40) (Hope, 2012). This met the requirements to call the Medical Emergency Team
according to hospital policy. The allocated senior nurse, Karen said that she was unaware of Mrs
McKay Hall s condition because a junior nurse did not inform her. However, she wrote a progress note
at 2 pm mentioning that the patient had tachycardia and increased blood pressure. She did not check
the patient and did not take further observations. The practice of a nurse is evaluated with regard to the
hypothetical reasonably competent nurse (Daly, Speedy, Jackson, 2014). On the same day at afternoon
shift, Nurse Baloyi was called in from another ward for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the given case, nurse Kuyper noticed that Mrs McKay Hall had altered level of vital signs.
However, neither she increased frequency of observations nor initiated a medical emergency response,
believing that Dr Ahmed was aware of her condition and had recommenced on antibiotics. Even
though, doctor was aware of the patient s condition, nurse Kuyper has a professional and legal
responsibility to critically analyse the patient s condition to prevent further deterioration. In this
situation, nurse Kuyper did not use autonomy of taking care Mrs McKay Hall appropriately and did
not show positive obligation to act for the benefit of Mrs McKay Hall. Nurse Kuyper even should
critically evaluate Mrs McKay Hall and think about benefits and burdens of conducting observation
frequently and initiating a medical emergency response in order to fulfil a duty not to injure her due to

Difference Between Lewis And Clark
With the roles of Lewis Clark clearly defined; Meriwether Lewis was determined to fulfill his special
interest and prove his pre journey training was valuable to the expedition. He set out to advance
scientific knowledge through discoveries in such areas as botany, biology, and zoology. Lewis love for
botany was well documented, however, he soon discovered that observing, documenting and in some
cases discovering new animal species rivaled his lifelong interest in flora and vegetation. After
Jackson commissioned Captain Lewis to take the journey, Lewis was sent to the American
Philosophical Society in Philadelphia to study for three months with Dr. Benjamin Rush. The training
proved to be invaluable when it came to the journey and

Scada System
Supervisor control and data acquisition
I am going to discuss in brief the SCADA system in GASCO which is one of the biggest MIS in Egypt
as it responsible for control natural gas all over Egypt.
GASCO (Egyptian natural gas company), is the greatest and the only company in Egypt responsible
for transmition of natural gas all over Egypt starting from natural gas wells in seas or deserts and
finally to the huge customers (i.e electrical power station, cement and steel factories)
SCADA system
A SCADA (or supervisory control and data acquisition) system means a system consisting of a
number of remote terminal units (or RTUs) collecting field data connected back to a master station via
a communications system. The master station ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These systems are sold as turn key solutions. The main problem with this system is the overwhelming
reliance on the supplier of the system. Open software systems have gained popularity because of the
interoperability they bring to the system. Interoperability is the ability to mix different manufacturers
equipment on the same system.
Citect and WonderWare are just two of the open software packages available in the market for
SCADA systems. Some packages are now including asset management integrated within the SCADA
system. The typical components of a SCADA system are indicated in the next diagram.

SCADA and local area networks
Local area networks (LAN) are all about sharing information and resources. To enable all the nodes on
the SCADA network to share information, they must be connected by some transmission medium. The
method of connection is known as the network topology.
Nodes need to share this transmission medium in such a way as to allow all nodes access to the
medium without disrupting an established sender.
A LAN is a communication path between computers, file servers, terminals, workstations, and various
other intelligent peripheral equipments, which are generally referred to as devices or hosts. A LAN
allows access for devices to be shared by several users, with full connectivity between all stations on
the network. A LAN is usually owned and administered by a private owner and is located within a

Horatian Satire
Satire first came to life during the Greek and Roman period, the word itself has been derived from
satura a term used by satyrs to define the comical verses they recite that mock and entertain the
audience at the same time. One of the first recognized style in satire is the Horatian Satire, which is
named after the Roman playwright Horace during the 35 BC. Its feature and satirical element leans
more onto a humorous and light hearted side, as the story s aim is to provide entertainment to the
audience or reader. Horatian satire s use of humor provides its critique mostly on societal norms and
pre conceived notions, As such then, the objective of Horatian satire is to be clever and knowing,
whilst evoking humor by exposing the peculiarities ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Satire was put into another medium wherein people see satire now as eye catching because of its
visual representation rather than look for it in novels or critical essays. As satire has been used even in
comic strips currently, it justifies Lebouf s statement, The genre shows no signs of stopping, or even
slowing down (22). Quintero s Understanding Satire analyzes the workings of the genre. He evaluates
the interaction between the work and the reader needed in order to fully grasp the essence of satire,
satirists must ultimately rely on audiences to share a common ground of reason and, as far as literary
satire is concerned, of belief (5). Verifying further the study s claim of TRESE as a reformation of
komik for its application of Menippean satire, Quintero states that the satirist employ fiction in
reaching the truth without forming misrepresentation, its goal of a re formation of thought makes the
readers to abide to the work s context affecting their own perspective as well, Through an aggressive
strategy of distortion or defamation that demands our critical judgment, the satirist seeks to affect our
attitude or perspective

Comparing Frankenstein And Adam
Compare and Contrast Frankenstein and Adam There are differences and similarities in the creation
story of Adam and Victor s creature. Victor Frankenstein and God created beings and put them in the
world. Adam and the creature Victor Frankenstein created resembles each other because, they were
alone, unique, and beings created. The creation of Frankenstein s monster parallels the creation of
Adam in many ways. First of all, both Adam and the monster were created because of love. God loved
the world and He thought that he needs to create a human being who was to take care of the beautiful
earth. The bible says that, God loved humanity and that is why he created man (Adam) in His image
and put him in the Garden of Eden which had everything he needed (Gen. 2:7 9). Adam was placed in
the Garden of Eden and warned not to eat from Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil . On the

no creature like him and asked is God (his creator), to create him a companion just like him. Both
Adam and the creature felt an urge of having companions who were created just like them in their
image. The main difference between Adam and the creature is their creators. Adam was created by
God and given directions on how to live in the world. In contrast, after Victor created the monster, he
left it wandering all alone in the world without any instructions or companion. In addition, after God
created Adam, he was very happy about his creation and that is why He took care of him and gave him
the Garden of Eden as hi home. Adam was given knowledge, wisdom, and abundance of fruits and

Ionian Revolt
Threat affects the dependent variable of state behavior. Walt states that powers will either balance or
bandwagon against another state. If a weak state is on good terms with a powerful state, the weak state
will be unlikely to balance against the stronger state. Furthermore, the weaker state is likely to benefit
from the alliance because of added security. However, if the weaker state perceives the stronger state
as a threat, then the weaker state will balance against the strong state in order to protect itself.
Additionally, if the state is not a good terms with the rival state, it is unable to bandwagon and will
therefore engage in balancing. Balancing can be broken up into internal and external parts. A state can
either build up their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since balance of threat assumes every state is a black box, it does not look at internal causes of
conflict. Within Ionia, they had a history of tension with the Persians. Since Persia had enacted tyrants
over the Greek city states, they already disliked them and were ready to rebel. This reason may have
been a cause of the Ionian Revolt, which Walt did not account for. Notwithstanding this criticism, the
balance of threat theory provides the best explanation for the revolt. It is able to explain the initial
attempt at bandwagoning and the final decision to balance. The theory is able to account for aggregate
power, geographical proximity, offensive capabilities, and offensive intent. This allows more than just
two factors to influence how a state will react. Another strength of Walt s theory is focusing on the
threat rather than the power. Even if a state has great power, a rival state may not react to it if it does
not possess a threat. Vice versa, a state with small power, but a great threat, may cause the rival state
to react by balancing or bandwagoning. Together, the theory of balance of threat is able to provide a
better explanation for the Ionian

Commission Meeting Paper
On March 7, 2017, I attended a commission meeting in the City of Aventura. The City of Aventura is a
council manager form of government. According to the authors Cheon Geun Choi, Richard C. Feiock,
and Jungah Bae (2013) in their article, The Adoption and Abandonment of Council Manager
Government, most U.S. have this type of government, The form of city government typically council
manager or mayor council in the United States represents the fundamental choice of governing
structure by citizens of the local polity, (p. 727) It was my first attending a commission meeting so I

As a public administrator, I learned the importance of showing people that you are serving that you
care. For example, when the Vice Mayor took his time greet everyone that came for the meeting, it
showed me that he was a career leader. Other commissioners were already at their seats. Also, I
learned that it is important to do what you think it is important for the people that you are serving. For
example, Commissioner Landman did not vote yes because she did not have enough time to review
the proposal presented. I really admired this decision. I believe it is important to fully know the
pros/cons of a proposal because voting on it, especially when you are a public servant. This goes along
with what author Jered B. Carr (2015) mention about the responsibility of a public official,
Responsibility to the entire council is an essential characteristic of the council manager form and helps
to ensure both transparency and a focus on the public interest rather than the political interests of a
single elected official, (p. 674). Furthermore, I learned that it is important to recognize employees who
are committed to their work. By giving awarding the employees during the meeting, I believe that

A Hovercraft Is An Air Vehicle
INTRODUCTION
A hovercraft is an air vehicle, or ACV, is a craft capable of travelling over Land, water, on the ice , soil
or other surfaces, both travel Speed and stop.
Transporting vehicle also called a hovercraft, that rides slightly above the Earth s surface on a cushion
of air. The air is continuously forced under the vehicle by a fan which generates the cushion that
greatly reduces friction between the moving vehicle and the surface.
The air is usually delivered through ducts and injected at Periphery of the vehicle in a downward ,
inward direction. This has been due to various reasons. The inability to control and maneuver minute
maintenance and noise levels are relatively high compared with the car hard enough to overcome to
keep the car and the air cushion in the margins of modern transportation. It also came along more than
fifty years after the accepted standard cars as a means of transport in many guises, cars, trucks,
recreational vehicles and so forth.

WHO DISCOVERED HOVERCRAFT ?
British inventor Christopher Cockerel in the early 1950s during the experiments were carried out with
a device called the hovercraft. . He is known as the father and innovator of the hovercraft. Christopher
has given a direction to the new generation of hovercraft. The basic principle of the vehicle resting on

Plaque
But should they really spend that much? I guess not as long as they know how to remove plaque from

from good oral hygiene practices.
What is plaque?
Before discussing how to remove plaque from teeth at home, it is first important for us to discuss what
it is and what causes it. After all, you can never treat something without fully understanding what it is,
its causes, as well as consequences.
Plaque is known as the soft, colorless, and sticky film of bacteria that forms on your teeth, gums, and
tongue. It can also form in your dental fillings, dentures and crowns. Since it is made up of invisible
harmful germs, many would always take them for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In this case, you can do your own teeth staining to show whether there are plaques or not. You can
stain plaque by simply chewing red disclosing tablets which you can purchase from drug stores and
grocery stores. You may also use a cotton swab to smudge green food coloring on your teeth. The
colors red and green left on the teeth will give you an idea about the location of plaques and where
you need to brush your teeth again to remove it.
It is important that you check your teeth regularly for plaque presence so that you can ensure that you
remove all plaques properly and that it will not cause untoward problems such as tooth decay and gum
disease.
How to remove plaque from teeth?
How to remove plaque from teeth is the most important question that we have to answer in this article.
There are different home remedies that we all can do in the comforts of our own homes to ensure that
we get rid of these unwelcomed plaques.
Here are 8 ways on how to remove plaque from teeth at home that you can easily do:

Planned Approach to Change
Kurt Lewin and the Planned Approach to Change:
A Re appraisal
Bernard Burnes
Manchester School of Management
 The work of Kurt Lewin dominated the theory and practice of change management for
over 40 years. However, in the past 20 years, Lewin s approach to change, particularly the 3 Step
model, has attracted major criticisms. The key ones are that his work: assumed organizations operate
in a stable state; was only suitable for small scale change projects; ignored organizational power and
politics; and was top down and management driven. This article seeks to re appraise Lewin s work and
challenge the validity of these views. It begins by describing Lewin s background and beliefs,
especially his commitment to resolving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The article concludes by arguing that rather than being outdated, Lewin s Planned approach is still
very relevant to the needs of the modern world.
LEWIN S BACKGROUND
Few social scientists can have received the level of praise and admiration that has been heaped upon
Kurt Lewin (Ash, 1992; Bargal et al., 1992; Dent and
Goldberg, 1999; Dickens and Watkins, 1999; Tobach, 1994). As Edgar Schein
(1988, p. 239) enthusiastically commented:
There is little question that the intellectual father of contemporary theories of applied behavioural
science, action research and planned change is Kurt Lewin.
His seminal work on leadership style and the experiments on planned change which took place in
World War II in an effort to change consumer behaviour launched a whole generation of research in
group dynamics and the implementation of change programs.
978 B. Burnes
Blackwell Publishing Ltd 2004For most of his life, Lewin s main preoccupation was the resolution of
social con flict and, in particular, the problems of minority or disadvantaged groups. Underpinning this
preoccupation was a strong belief that only the permeation of democratic values into all facets of
society could prevent the worst extremes of social conflict. As his wife wrote in the Preface to a
volume of his collected work published after his death:
Kurt Lewin was so constantly and predominantly preoccupied with the task of advancing the

ABA Narrative 1. Describe the purpose of an Activity Based Assessment The purpose of an Activity
Based Assessments is to combine evaluation of a child s play through curriculum. Educational
activities are planned, so they will provide useful information that can help guide and improve the

Through activity based assessment children s social interactions, developmental skills, learning styles

Was each child s performance typical of a child his/her age? Why or why not? Compare to
developmental milestones, standards, grade expectations. Gage understands the numeral words 1
through 9. He demonstrated this when he counted the pepperoni on his pizza. He counted to 8, but
missed the number 5. This is normal because 3 year olds can normally only count to 5. He does
understand counting and one to one counting because he placed three circles of sauce, on three
different crusts, and counted as he placed them on each pizza. It is also typical that he could make the
colored toppings with the same colored bowl. When children are 3 years old they begin to understand
concepts like grouping and matching. (Child Development Tracker, 2003) Heidi did not use any
number words or count when she was playing with the pizza. This is still typical because she has
recently turned 3 and some 3 year old might not be able to recognize numerals zero through nine or
count until they are closer to 4 years old. Like Gage she was able to match the colored toppings to the
same colored bowl, so she showed that she understood how to match color to color during this
assessment. (Child Development Tracker,

Crime Rates In America
In society s day and age, Americans believe that crime has been steadily increasing. This perspective
is based on information provided to the public by criminologist. Our society relies heavily on
statistical data to measure criminality and the effectiveness of the laws that govern society. This data is
collected and formulated to create what is known as national crime reports. These reports were
implemented to improve the structure of the laws that govern our society. In addition these reports
record criminal activity, the type of crimes committed, the locations of criminal trends, the volume of
crimes committed, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These reports are based only on the crimes that have been reported by victims or discovered by police.
In the cases of crimes that are less serious, the data used for these reports are that which resulted in
arrest only (not reported crimes). These reports do not include crimes that have not been reported,
have been omitted from these reports, or cases which prosecutors declined to prosecute due to lack of
evidence. Although these crimes are not indicated on these reports, they still contribute to our society s
criminality.
Another way that crime rates can be deceiving is the views between street crimes and white collar
crimes. To the public eye street crimes, which consist of crimes such as Murder, Rape, Robbery,
Assault, Kidnapping, Arson, etc. is the more devastating to society. Whereas white collar crimes such
as Embezzlement, Tax evasion, Price fixing, Bank fraud, Concealment of product liabilities, etc. are
not seen as detrimental to society. The UCR and NCVS reports tend to focus more on street crime as
apposed to white collar crimes. This can lead the public to believe contrary to reality. When
researching this comparison, we will find an overwhelming disparity which shows that white collar
crime affect society far worse than street crime in the form of financial cost, property lose or damage,
and personal injury or death (Robinson 2011).
In researching the topic of crime rates in America, I have learned that crime rates relate to

The Origins Of The Viking
The term Viking commonly relinquishes thoughts of ship born warriors and pillagers known as the
Norsemen, or men from the north, who originated in Scandinavia and raided the coasts of Britain,
Ireland and mainland Europe as far east as the Volga River in Russia from the late 8th to 11th century.
The terminology of the Viking has also been denoted by historians as entire populations of Viking Age
Scandinavia and their settlements. Although the Norsemen are infamous for their pillaging and
plundering they were also intensely focused on establishing sufficient trade routes throughout Europe
and implementing economically sustainable villages with functional currency. Although the barbarian
invasions undoubtedly deepened the initial economic crisis and the emergence of the barbarian
kingdoms made traveling less safe which accelerated the collapse of long distance trade. At the same
time also declining the importance of the cities as cultural and trade centers. The claim that the
barbarian invasions resulted in a long tenured period of general economic and cultural decline can be
argued against with sufficient evidence. Considering the economic crisis started much earlier and
could not be reversed neither by the reforms of Diocletian nor of Constantine. It was not until after
this initial depression that the extensive trade routes of the Norsemen were able to redefine Europe
economically and culturally.
The established Norse trade network included trading relationships

and the many issues it brings about. He implies that this conflict will bring about disaster on both
families. The play begins with the chorus entering and introducing the story with the prologue. Then,
two Capulet servants enter boasting about what they would do to the Montagues. Immediately, we can
tell that the conflict extends beyond just the family themselves. Just then, they spot a Montague
servant and try to trick him into starting a fight. Just as the Montague servant draws his sword,
Benvolio arrives and tries to stop the fighting. However, Tybalt arrives and insults him along with all

As they see him approaching, Benvolio advises the Montagues to leave and promises to find out what

marry Juliet. He only agrees to consent if Juliet herself does. However, he encourages Paris to woo
Juliet and invites him to the Capulet s party later that evening. Lord Capulet gives his servant a list of
those invited and sends him on his way. On the streets, the servant runs into Romeo and Benvolio and
asks for help in reading the list. Through him, Romeo and Benvolio find out about the Capulet s party.
They decide to attend, Romeo doing so in order to see Rosaline. The scene once again changes to
Lady Capulet, Juliet, and the nurse discussing marriage. Lady Capulet tells Juliet of Paris intention to

In the play, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, the character Brick is the main focal point. Brick is the favorite in

Tennis Has Long Been A Favorite Sport Of Mine Due To The
Tennis has long been a favorite sport of mine due to the constant movement and the sense of
suspension that it creates. The observer never knows what the players are going to do next with
respect to where, how hard, or even how soft they will send or hit the ball. All of this movement is not
just by chance however, physics is at work throughout every moment the ball is on the court. Starting
with the basics we must look first at force. Force can be defined as the strength or energy exerted or
brought to bear which causes motion or a change in motion. There are multiple forces acting on the
ball throughout the course of a match. The main force being exerted comes from the racket which gets
its energy from the player. Other forces acting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since hitting the ball is really how the game of tennis is played these laws of motion are very
important. Another concept that is important when looking at the physics of tennis is gravity. As
mentioned earlier, one of the main forces acting on the ball is the force the ground exerts on the ball to
make it bounce back up into the air. The force of gravity is what pulls the ball to the ground so the
ground can exert its force on the ball. Just like everything else on Earth, or any planet or celestial body
for that matter, gravity is acting on the ball at all times. Now, from the previous discussion on force we
know that force is in a direct relationship with acceleration. So, because the exact force of gravity is at
all times acting on the ball. The ball is constantly accelerating. Now, due to the force of the players on
the ball and the ground on the ball once it hits the ground it is always accelerating in different
directions; however, it will always tend to be pulled down toward the ground due to gravity. One can
calculate the exact force of gravity on the ball by multiplying the mass of the ball times the
acceleration due to gravity which is always of the value of 9.8 m/s2. Another concept of physics that
plays a role in tennis is that of momentum. We have previously discussed that the racket exerts a force
on the ball and the ball exerts a force on the

Cyrus The Great Thesis
Cyrus II otherwise known as Cyrus the Great was the first Achaemenid emperor. Cyrus II was born
around 580 B.C. in Anshan, Iran (Persia) in which Cyrus was supposed to have been said to grow up
there. Cyrus is supposedly the grandson of the Median king Astyages. When Cyrus was born,
Astyages had a dream that one day Cyrus would overthrow him as the ruler. As a result of this dream,
he ordered for baby Cyrus to be left in the mountains to die, but he was found by some herders who
then raised him as their own. After 10 years, Astyages heard that the boy that he had sent to the
mountains had not been killed after all, but had lived, so he allowed him to return to his birth parents.

Computer Networks And Its Impact On The Retail Store Front
With the use of mainframe computers, we have gained cost effective critical transaction processing
because of the mainframe s scalability; reliable hardware and software compatibility; and, the
mainframe s security infrastructure makes maintaining and managing the mainframe more feasible.
Compared to commodity servers, mainframe transaction processing is scalable because many
businesses experience massive increases in computational loads (Hallman, 2015). Let us consider this
circumstance: During a retail store front s hours of operation, there may be many customers making
product purchases. Simultaneously, there may be many customers seeking refunds on their product
purchases. One can also consider that this retail store front offers its services over the Internet with the
use of an e commerce operation called metrics management. This e commerce operation encompasses
web analytics, channel metrics, financial metrics, and product metrics. With the use of metrics
management, one can measure the effectiveness of the Internet channel and the retail store front
channel by analyzing the quantity of product purchases and product refunds to deduce which channel
promotes a financially effective service; or, one could objectively consider to have these channels
work in tandem to capture a product purchase in any way possible. In this circumstance, the quantity
of product purchases and product refunds are metrics that require computational loads because the
mainframe would store and

Reforming Inequality Research Paper
Reforming Inequality Despite dipping below ten percent between the late 1960 s and early 1970 s, the
income gap in the United States has climbed steadily over the last fifty years. From its low point in
1973, the wealthiest Americans income share now exceeds even that which they held in 1928, on the
eve of the Great Depression. Experts have pointed to several potential culprits, including the
underrepresentation of lower and middle class citizens in legislatures, the shrinking power of
organized labor, the expanding power of organized business, and a tax system that seems to
disproportionately favor those at the top at the expense of those on the bottom. These factors vary
greatly in level of impact and the feasibility of potential solutions, ... Show more content on

No matter how effective a plan may be at the former, if it cannot succeed at the latter it will never be
implemented. Convincing enough voters to support the tax plan will be extremely difficult, due to
both the high levels of ideological opposition to taxes and the resources and organizational strength of
the measure s primary opponents. Per an April 2016 Gallup poll, 61% of Americans believe that the
wealthy pay too little in taxes (Gallup), so Americans at least agree in principle that taxes should be
increased for the wealthy. Additionally, by emphasizing elements of the measure that could appeal to
conservative voters, such as keeping money from leaving the economy, candidates could generate
crossover appeal to both conservative and liberal parts of the electorate. The chief difficulty,
ultimately, will be overcoming the formidable organizations those with a vested interest in keeping
taxes low can bring to bear. Just as they did in the 1970 s, business and financial leaders will marshal
their extensive capacity to launch multi faceted campaigns (Hacker 125), exerting pressure on
incumbent candidates to distance themselves from the new tax policy and organizing opposition via
advertising, political action committees, and donations. To counteract this disadvantage, candidates
must mobilize wealthy liberal activists sympathetic to the cause of tax

Elizabeth Barrett Browning Influences
The Victorian Period is marked by Queen Victoria s reign from 1837 to 1901. The Romantic Period
preceded the Victorian Period and served as a transition period between 20th century literature. The
salvaging of themes in classical literature and medieval literature were repurposed into the writings of
the English Victorian Period. The Victorian writers exhibited well established styles of writing from
previous eras, while at the same time pushing various customs to new and interesting directions. Every
aspect of society was unstable and suspect to change because of industrialization and technology
evolving. The economy expanded, the Church was being undermined, and factory production
increased. Some writers saw the rapid and unpredictable change ... Show more content on

Browning wanted to write a novel poem. In her book called Elizabeth Barrett Browning s Spiritual
Progress, Linda Lewis states that Mrs. Browning s poem would fill a volume and it was the romance
she had been hankering after so long, written in blank verse (20). In 1856, Barrett Browning published
Aurora Leigh which is her longest work. In her article Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Expatriate
Women Poetry, Allison Chapman states that Aurora Leigh represents a decisive shift in women s
poetry away from the English poetess and toward a more muscular, political, public, epic poetics (4).
In Victorian England, an educated woman with unusual talents had almost no opportunity to make use
of her skills in a world that was dominated by men (Chapman 4). The poem exemplifies that a woman
could live by herself in London and become prosperous. Two years after Aurora Leigh was published
Elizabeth Barrett Browning was writing again about political turmoil in Italy. Browning published
Poems Before Congress in 1860 which was about Italy struggling for independence and unity once
more. Included in the Poems Before Congress collection is A Curse for a Nation, which criticized
slavery in America (Preston 24). In her book, Elizabeth Barrett Browning s Spiritual Progress, Linda
Lewis explains that the poet was so invested in Italian politics that her obsession weakened her
nervous system (18). On June 20th, 1861, her poor health took a turn

Benefits And Advantages Of Flexible Work Arrangement...
Flexibility is the willingness to change or compromise. When flexibility exists in the workspace, both
the employee and employer maximize their productivity. Workspace is a space in which employees
execute work for the company employing them. Workspace flexibility is comprised of the decisions
made by the company and the employee to better tailor when, where, and how an individual will work
to meet the needs of both the employee and the company. Workspace flexibility encompasses a large
array of arrangements that allow individuals to both contribute to their firm, while also being able to
have a schedule that better suits their needs. A business s objective is to create a smart management
strategy in its workspace that will increase its productivity while lowering costs, thus making the
business more efficient. It is believed that increasing flexibility can be a means to achieve this. I can
be very expensive to do this; however, the benefits outweigh the costs. Flexible work arrangement
strategies can be separated into categories including scheduled hours, amount of hours, and work
location. Flexibility in the workspace helps employers and employees reach their ultimate goal of
maximizing their profit. Flexible Work Arrangements Flexible work arrangement is a spectrum of
work structures that alters the time and/or place that work [is achieved] on a regular basis (Worldat

Giant Steppes Toward Freedom by Ancestors
It is difficult for many Americans today to imagine taking everything they own and moving to a new
country because of religious and political freedoms. With these freedoms taken so much for granted,
we rarely think of the steps taken by our ancestors to gain that liberty. When looking at attempts in
history to gain freedom, it is usual to look to the founding fathers of America and their sacrifices.
However, other groups of people have strived for the same thing, one such group being the people of
the divided German states shortly after the Seven Year s War. Through several generations of
Germans, these people moved across country, across continent, and eventually even across the ocean
to America in order to gain that much desired freedom. In about 1763, the Germans were experiencing
many problems. With the seven years war just behind them, much of the land had been destroyed.
Crops were trampled, and properties were decimated, making the living conditions in Germany very
difficult. On top of that, the war had left the political system in a state of chaos. At that time, Germany
was not together as a nation but was rather divided into forty two different states. Unified Germany as
we know it today did not come about until much later, in about 1872. During this time minority
religions struggled in the German states. Evangelical Christians such as Baptists were not looked well
upon, as well as Mennonites who were pacifists and did not believe in serving in the military.

Chromebook Advantages And Disadvantages

about your kid being glued to it in class or one of said students, it has been present. The Chromebook
has been regarded as a way to revolutionize learning, but it also has a slew of consequences. So we are
left with the everlasting question of whether or not it is a viable method of learning.
It can be seen that there are obvious disadvantages in the system, but some other effects, whether it
has to do with health, the environment, or costs, go unnoticed by the general populous. In a study done
by the American Optometric Association, it is shown that using computers in school increases the
odds of a problem called Computer Vision Syndrome, which causes problems such as headaches,
eyestrain, dry eyes, and blurred vision. Another medical problem has been given the lovely name Text
Neck . It is a condition that is caused by exerting more pressure on the upper vertebrae of the spine,
which causes wear and tear on the spine and could result in mass amounts of pain or required surgery.
Also to be noted, it takes 79 gallons of water, 33 pounds of miscellaneous minerals, and 100 kilowatt
hours of energy, while printing a textbook requires about 2 kilowatt hours of energy and two thirds of
a pound of materials. While we re on the subject, let s talk about costs. While textbooks may seem
expensive, they require very little for upkeep, not to mention things like networking and

Robby s friend Garth in Robby s point of view. This is important because this is what sparks Robby s
behavioral changes. Then John, as an outsider looking in on the situation moves onto how he views
Robby. He understands Robby s behavior is wrong but he lets it go because of all the awful things that
Robby has gone through growing up. Wideman now finds that his mother is starting to accept that
Robby is a product of his environment and the events lead up to his wrong doings. John visits Robby

A Brief Look at France
II. Essay One The state which we today call France has undergone significant change since its origins
as the territory of Gaul. Between the years 480 and 1780, this territory was reshaped in terms of both
its physical boundaries and its inhabitants and rulers, creating a rich history of the nation of modern
France. First, in order to analyze the evolution of the state of France, it is necessary to define the
concept of the state. A state is a territory, defined by physical or imagined boundaries, containing a
population of people that is governed by a select few of those people. Within the state, the government
has authority and the power to impose their power on the rest of the population, enacting laws such as
taxation, fighting wars, and implementing a criminal justice system. It is now appropriate to consider
the territorial expansion and, at times, contraction of France from 480 and 1780. Before France was
united in any kind of Frankish state, the territory we now call France was mostly comprised of an area
called Gaul. This area, existing in parts of Spain and Rome, parts of present day Belgium, Germany,
Austria and other European nations, and south of England and the English channel, was inhabited by
the Gauls up until the end of Roman rule in the 1st 3rd centuries CE. The region was populated by
tribes and loosely connected governing bodies up until the 5th century CE, when it first began to take
shape under Clovis. Clovis I had established himself as the first

Health Risks From The Coal Ash Spill
Ultimately, Dr. Shea found very little actual health risks from the coal ash spill. According to Dan
Way, Dr. Shea reported that short term toxic harm resulted from the spill, and that there were only
isolated cases of coal ash contaminating groundwater (2014). However, there was agreement that long
term monitoring was necessary at the Dan River to assess longer term damages.
Additionally, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published a response update to assess
potential impacts to human and aquatic life (2014). The method the EPA employed was to analyze
surface water and sediments for contaminants and compare those results to its screening levels. To
assess impact to human health, the EPA compared the sediment data to health risk screening levels and
compared drinking water samples to Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) as well as to other
indicators. Overall, the EPA found those levels found in sediment data and water samples to not
exceed human health screening levels and thus determined that there wasn t significant risk to human
health, although the EPA did recommend that people do not come in direct contact with coal ash as it
could still pose health risks. These findings were consistent with that of Dr. Shea.
Secondarily, the EPA compared the sediment data and water samples to ecological risk based
screening levels. In this study, the EPA did find some levels to exceed ecological screening levels in
both the sediment data and water samples. The action that the

Friedrich Engels. The Communist Manifesto is a pamphlet that was written to let the public know how
the working class was being treated, and to try to get rid of the class system that existed at the time.
Marx believed that many of the workers throughout England were not being treated fairly and that
something needed to be done about it. Marx explains, The history of all hitherto existing society is the
history of class struggles. 1 He continues on to talk about how while looking at human history you

Due to all of this happening Marx became very depressed during this time. All of this eventually led to
his death on March 14, 1883. 4 In The Communist Manifesto Marx argues in order to understand
human history you must not see it as a story of great individuals or conflict between states . 5 Instead
you must look at the class struggles to understand this great conflict. Marx thought that at this time the
two important classes of people were the bourgeoisie and the proletariats. The bourgeoisie were those
people who owned the factories and processed the raw materials, and the proletariats were those
people who had very little and were forced to sell their labors to the capitalists. The bourgeoisie were
those who dominated society, and the proletariats were those that were labeled as the middle class.
Yet, it was not just a struggle between these two classes; it is just that these two classes were the two
that Marx uses due to the fact that they have very different status in society and financial situations. It
was the struggle between classes that would eventually lead to a revolution. Marx was right, and soon
enough the bourgeoisie class disappeared and the class struggle ended. 6 In conclusion, Marx was a
very influential part of society at this time in history. He and Engels both used their knowledge of
society and what they though was right

Paul Laurence Dunbar Sympathy Essay
Sympathy In Paul Laurence Dunbar s poem Sympathy, he chose the image of a caged bird to represent

symbolize a slave for many reasons. Birds were the complete opposite of slaves, birds were free and
seemed to always be full of joy. Whereas slaves were caged and mistreated by their owners. The
comparison between the two gives the reader a sense of irony. In the first stanza, Dunbar says he

Many of his poems expressed the oppression of African Americans. In this poem, Dunbar chose to use

parts of world comics and represent western and eastern comics. So they will have some differences in

particular style on the world comics.
V. The comparison of America comics and Japanese manga.
America comics and Japanese manga are two important and big comic schools. Although they have
some similar aspects, they have more differences because of different background. Then, I will
compare these two kinds of comics in three aspects.
A. Styles and content
The first is drawing style. America comics is almost about superheroes, these characters are drawn
hasty and careless. And it is colorful. Japanese manga s pictures are delicate, and its characters are
beautiful.
The second is content. America comics is just about superheroes, and it mainly express individualistic
heroism. Its stories are more close to reality, and its content is almost about fighting. Japanese manga s
themes are abundant. It includes works in a broad range of
genres: action adventure, romance, sports and games, historical drama, comedy, science among others.
[3]Every aspect of live can be drawn to manga. Japanese manga is more flexible than America comics.
B. Development
American historians generally divide comics chronologically into «ages». The first period, called
«Golden Age», extends from 1938 (first appearance of Superman) to 1954

turn around the fortunes of any enterprise. For Example, Founded in 1911, the rapidly growing
Swedish pharmaceutical company Pharmacia, showcased its first demonstration of market power with
the purchase American rivals Upjohn in 1995 and Monsanto less than five years later. During that time
Monsanto, had been developing the anti inflammatory drug known as Celecoxib , which had been
eyed by Pfizer during its development stages. Beaten to the punch by Pharmacia, the American Pfizer
announced the purchasing deal of Pharmacia as a whole in July 2002 with the transaction tag of $60bn
(U.S). Less than seven years later Pfizer would agree to purchase rival Wyeth for approximately
$68bn (U.S). Today, Pfizer Inc. is worth as much as twice its value at $172bn (U.S). Taking another
example, at one point Bank One Corp was the sixth largest bank in U.S.It was the first of many
dominions that would be purchased by the millennials new born that is J.P Morgan Chase. After a
string of successful mergers on its own, including its own consolidation of Chicago Corp and the

Internal Devaluation And Its Effects On The Economy
Furthermore, the Fund also recognized that after nearly four years of internal devaluation, the
economic strategy had not succeeded. The idea of an internal devaluation is that if you create enough
mass unemployment and push wages down far enough, the economy can become more competitive
due to lower labor costs. This allows exports to grow, and import competing industries to also do
better, improving the trade balance. Since exports add to economic growth and employment, and
reduced imports do the same, the economy can recover in this scenario due to increasing net exports
(exports minus imports). Normally this could be attempted through a devaluation of the currency. But
the troika has only recently shown any intention of trying to push the euro s value down against
external trading partners; and of course since it is a common currency, the more depressed economies
within the currency union can t devalue against the others (e.g. Spain versus Germany). This leaves
internal devaluation as the remaining hope for recovery for countries such as Spain, Greece, and
Portugal. In other words, despite the negative impact of the fiscal austerity, the theory is that internal
devaluation based on lower labor costs can drive recovery based on the growth of net exports.
But it took years to reach this point despite crushing levels of unemployment and mandated reductions
in the social wage (e.g., pensions and health care). The Fund finds that from 2008 2012, there was

Ernesis Quesnay Essay
To think that the world we live in today would be drastically different, if it was not for the
innumerable amount of philosophers and physiocrats who had contributed their minds and time to
various subjects. Ranging from Voltaire to John Locke, these fellow men and women have helped
excel our progress to a better future; One splendid example is a fellow French man by the name of
François Quesnay. François Quesnay, similar to other scholars of his time, believed there were
numerous flaws within society and how we the people, live our daily lives. Furthermore, contributing
as an economist and physiocrat, François Quesnay believed in various subjects such as the proposition
that government policy should not interfere the natural economic laws, ... Show more content on

From that point onward, François Quesnay would later contribute to the well known Encyclopédie,
and titled his works as Fermiers in 1756 and Grains in 1757. Along this point in time, François
Quesnay had also begun publication of Tableau économique, a work that displays Quesnay s system of
political economy that was released in 1758. On the other hand, through the works that François
Quesnay had published, he had impacted and influenced his beliefs such as his economic ideas and his
physiocratic ideas. To begin with, in the contributions he made to the Encyclopédie, he conveys that
agriculture has the capability to generate a vast amount of income for the nation when the setting is
correctly set for operation; Francois Quesnay further clarifies by stating that in order to generate a vast
income via agriculture, the operation must be helped by large scale enterprises that were backed up by
abundant capital. Another great example, Tableau Economique, a writing devised to portray his system
of political economy as I stated previously, however, it also illustrates the income that each and every
economic class receives of his time period; In addition, François Quesnay

Essay about Business Forecast
Business Forecast
This Paper examines and compares various forecasting techniques used for qualitative and
quantitative business forecasting and their use in Firstlogic Inc., to forecast the demand under
conditions of uncertainty. Time series and Delphi forecasting methods are considered for this research
to evaluate their ability to make effective decisions regarding the future.
Business Forecasting
Business forecasting is the process of studying historical performance for the purpose of using the
knowledge gained to project future business conditions so that decisions can be made today that will
aid in the achievement of established goals. Forecasting plays a crucial role in today s uncertain global
marketplace. Forecasting is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is in these situations that modern methods of business forecasting can be especially useful. Modern
forecasting methods are usually grouped into two main categories: qualitative methods, and
quantitative methods. Qualitative analysis includes the intuitive and knowledge based approach as
discussed earlier. The decision maker reviews all of the information available, and then makes an
estimated forecast. Quantitative techniques are used mostly when qualitative information is not
available. In contrast, qualitative techniques are based on an analysis of data (Namvar, 2000, p.8).
Delphi Forecasting Method
Qualitative forecasting techniques are: executive committee, the Delphi method, and surveys of the
sales force, surveys of customers, historical analogy, and market research. The objective of most
Delphi applications is the reliable and creative exploration of ideas or the production of suitable
information for decision making. The Delphi Method is based on a structured process for collecting
and distilling knowledge from a group of experts by means of a series of questionnaires interspersed
with controlled opinion feedback (chase, 2003, P471).
The Delphi method is a variation of the executive committee approach. But the interaction is indirect,
iterative and structured. The basic premise of Delphi method is to identify a group of experts and each
of them are given a set of questions or issues,

Even more difficult is the explanation of this process in conditions of group decision making where
each individual member of a decision making unit is influenced and influence other members as well.
Motivation of single members and their rate of involvement in the purchase process can also vary
according to the rate of personal usage of the purchased product or interest in this particular buying
task for the firm. Therefore, it is necessary to take into consideration personal effects and interaction
of members within a unit and emotional motives for decision making about a purchase in
communication (Gilliland Johnston, 1997).

In the 1997 Gilliland and Johnston published a model of B2B communication effects mentioned
individual preferences influencing business buying decision and other factors which create the
dynamics of the DMU. Most of presented opinions in accessible literature presume that decision
making about organization purchase is influenced more or less by rational arguments than emotional
arguments. However, an emotional message has an essential role in forming individual attitudes,

Rsmt Task 1
RSMT Task 1 Role Development for Advanced Nursing Practice SMT2 Dr. Laura Bevis December 5,
2012 RSMT Task 1 A1. The nursing profession has evolved significantly over the decades. One of the
factors that have greatly influenced these changes has been the involvement of nurses in the
development of theories and data base needed to support the advancement of our profession. In the
last half of the twentieth century, nurse researchers (1950s) and nurse theorists (1960s and 1970s)
greatly contributed to the expanding body of nursing knowledge with their studies of nursing practice
and the development of nursing models and theories (American Nurses Association, 2010, p. 16). Like

Nurses involvement in policy debates brings our professional values to bear on the process. (Warner,
2003) The Master s prepared nurse s goal as an advocate should be to fight to enhance the client s
wellbeing in every possible way, at every available opportunity. This can be achieved by being part of
organization that advocate for patients right as well as for better working condition for our colleagues.
Also, nurses could choose to get involved in politics or lobby on behalf of other nurses. A5. The
experience, training and formal education should give the Master s prepared nurse an exceptional
ability to balance helping the patient obtain the physical and psychosocial care needed. Nurses manage
a healthcare consumer s care in order to maximize independence and quality of life (American Nurses
Association, 2010, p. 40). At the same time the client or family often require assistance navigating a
system that has sometimes physical as well as logistical or economic barriers. Be it as a case manager
or as an asset in any unit; the Master s prepared nurse should be able to utilize the systems to ensure
the patient is provided with the best care possible and the best achievable outcomes within the
limitations of available resources. A6. Before becoming a nurse I did not have an idea of how big of a
variety of roles a nurse can have. One role that really surprised me was that of a consultant. A Master s
prepared nurse role as a consultant

Indians Vs. The Constitution Essay
They are Native Americans who are trying to build better lives for themselves but are stopped in there
tracks by the state supreme court. Proposition 5 passed in November of 98, which would allow more
gambling in the Indian reservations. The proposition was ruled to be unconstitutional. Now the
Indians are rebutting the fact that they are sovereign and the ballot was passed.
Under existing law, Indian tribes operate as semi sovereign nations, and are liable under federal law
only. Recently, the long standing political and legal tension between the Indians and the government,
which has characterized the relationship since colonization, has entered into the debate over tribal
gaming. Indian gaming is not new to California. In fact, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many tribes contend that, as sovereign nations, they are not subject to state regulation. The state has
demanded the tribes to cease their gambling operations and enter into an agreement with the state,
which will allow quot;legal quot; tribal gaming. Some tribes have agreed to Wilson s demands,
recently signing the Wilson Pala Compact that provides state control of tribal gaming and also
establishes a limit on the size of gaming operations. The majority of tribes have refused to agree to the
terms of the Wilson Pala Compact, however, claiming that it is inflexible and grants the state too much
power over tribal affairs.
Proposition 5 provides the terms of a tribal gaming compact and requires the Governor to permit any
tribe to enter into the compact upon request. In general terms, Proposition 5 s compact contains fewer
restrictions upon tribal gaming than is provided for in the Wilson Pala Compact and is more protective
of Indian sovereignty. The differences relate to such diverse issues as the number of slot machines
permitted, the type of games authorized, the degree of state involvement in regulating tribal gaming,
employee rights, local community involvement, liability provisions, and the applicability of state
health and safety requirements.
Two constitutional concerns arise from the language of the proposition. The first is whether the
proposition establishes a statute, or

Honesty In The Meaning Of Honesty
Student ID: 12172021
Deceptive honesty, deception that highlights honesty. Can we use honesty to justify deceit? We can
say an individual is honest when they do not lie, but what about an individual that brings out the truth
in others? One s ability to understand, interpret, and conjure the truth may make them even more
truthful than someone who is always honest.
Why are you fearful? (42:2) are the first words spoken by Jacob at the start his sons journey to Egypt.
This innocent question carries with it an overarching theme of Genesis that there is no need for fear
when being honest. In the story of Jacob s son, Joseph, one can see how deception can bring out fear
and in doing so, evoke even more truth. The story of Joseph s deceit toward his brothers would
perhaps be more accurately called one of honesty. His original lie ultimately gave way to far more
truth than deception. Joseph s lie gave us insight into his own character and allows us to better
understand why he was chosen by God to be an interpreter of His words.
In the first of meeting between Jacob and his brothers in Egypt truth immediately begins to arise from
Joseph s duplicity. The language used by Joseph and Jacob, both of whom have a strong connection to
God, at the very beginning of chapter 42 already insinuate a need for honesty. The idea of the land s
nakedness (42:10) referred to many times is a symbol of the naked uncensored truth that Joseph s
brothers will extol. The surprising honesty of

  • 2. Nursing Ethics Case Study At 12 noon on 12 November 2007, Mrs McKay Hall s vital signs were quite abnormal (pulse 140, respiration rate 40) (Hope, 2012). This met the requirements to call the Medical Emergency Team according to hospital policy. The allocated senior nurse, Karen said that she was unaware of Mrs McKay Hall s condition because a junior nurse did not inform her. However, she wrote a progress note at 2 pm mentioning that the patient had tachycardia and increased blood pressure. She did not check the patient and did not take further observations. In this situation, nurse Kuyper did not use autonomy of taking care Mrs McKay Hall appropriately and did not show positive obligation to act for the benefit of Mrs McKay Hall. Difference Between Lewis And Clark With the roles of Lewis Clark clearly defined; Meriwether Lewis was determined to fulfill his special interest and prove his pre journey training was valuable to the expedition. He set out to advance scientific knowledge through discoveries in such areas as botany, biology, and zoology. Lewis love for botany was well documented, however, he soon discovered that observing, documenting and in some cases discovering new animal species rivaled his lifelong interest in flora and vegetation. After Jackson commissioned Captain Lewis to take the journey, Lewis was sent to the American Philosophical Society in Philadelphia to study for three months with Dr. Benjamin Rush. Interoperability is the ability to mix different manufacturers equipment on the same system. Citect and WonderWare are just two of the open software packages available in the market for SCADA systems. Some packages are now including asset management integrated within the SCADA system. The typical components of a SCADA system are indicated in the next diagram. [pic] SCADA and local area networks Local area networks (LAN) are all about sharing information and resources. To enable all the nodes on the SCADA network to share information, they must be connected by some transmission medium. The method of connection is known as the network topology. Nodes need to share this transmission medium in such a way as to allow all nodes access to the medium without disrupting an established sender. A LAN is a communication path between computers, file servers, terminals, workstations, and various other intelligent peripheral equipments, which are generally referred to as devices or hosts. A LAN allows access for devices to be shared by several users, with full connectivity between all stations on the network. • 5. Horatian Satire Satire first came to life during the Greek and Roman period, the word itself has been derived from satura a term used by satyrs to define the comical verses they recite that mock and entertain the audience at the same time. One of the first recognized style in satire is the Horatian Satire, which is named after the Roman playwright Horace during the 35 BC. Its feature and satirical element leans more onto a humorous and light hearted side, as the story s aim is to provide entertainment to the audience or reader. Horatian satire s use of humor provides its critique mostly on societal norms and pre conceived notions, As such then, the objective of Horatian satire is to be clever and knowing, whilst evoking humor by exposing the peculiarities ... Satire was put into another medium wherein people see satire now as eye catching because of its visual representation rather than look for it in novels or critical essays. As satire has been used even in comic strips currently, it justifies Lebouf s statement, The genre shows no signs of stopping, or even slowing down (22). Quintero s Understanding Satire analyzes the workings of the genre. He evaluates the interaction between the work and the reader needed in order to fully grasp the essence of satire, satirists must ultimately rely on audiences to share a common ground of reason and, as far as literary satire is concerned, of belief (5). Verifying further the study s claim of TRESE as a reformation of komik for its application of Menippean satire, Quintero states that the satirist employ fiction in reaching the truth without forming misrepresentation, its goal of a re formation of thought makes the readers to abide to the work s context affecting their own perspective as well, Through an aggressive strategy of distortion or defamation that demands our critical judgment, the satirist seeks to affect our attitude or perspective ... Victor Frankenstein and God created beings and put them in the world. Adam and the creature Victor Frankenstein created resembles each other because, they were alone, unique, and beings created. The creation of Frankenstein s monster parallels the creation of Adam in many ways. First of all, both Adam and the monster were created because of love. God loved the world and He thought that he needs to create a human being who was to take care of the beautiful earth. The bible says that, God loved humanity and that is why he created man (Adam) in His image and put him in the Garden of Eden which had everything he needed (Gen. 2:7 9). • 7. Ionian Revolt Threat affects the dependent variable of state behavior. Walt states that powers will either balance or bandwagon against another state. If a weak state is on good terms with a powerful state, the weak state will be unlikely to balance against the stronger state. Furthermore, the weaker state is likely to benefit from the alliance because of added security. However, if the weaker state perceives the stronger state as a threat, then the weaker state will balance against the strong state in order to protect itself. Additionally, if the state is not a good terms with the rival state, it is unable to bandwagon and will therefore engage in balancing. Balancing can be broken up into internal and external parts. Within Ionia, they had a history of tension with the Persians. Since Persia had enacted tyrants over the Greek city states, they already disliked them and were ready to rebel. This reason may have been a cause of the Ionian Revolt, which Walt did not account for. Notwithstanding this criticism, the balance of threat theory provides the best explanation for the revolt. It is able to explain the initial attempt at bandwagoning and the final decision to balance. The theory is able to account for aggregate power, geographical proximity, offensive capabilities, and offensive intent. This allows more than just two factors to influence how a state will react. Another strength of Walt s theory is focusing on the threat rather than the power. Even if a state has great power, a rival state may not react to it if it does not possess a threat. Vice versa, a state with small power, but a great threat, may cause the rival state to react by balancing or bandwagoning. Planned Approach to Change Kurt Lewin and the Planned Approach to Change: A Re appraisal Bernard Burnes Manchester School of Management  The work of Kurt Lewin dominated the theory and practice of change management for over 40 years. However, in the past 20 years, Lewin s approach to change, particularly the 3 Step model, has attracted major criticisms. The key ones are that his work: assumed organizations operate in a stable state; was only suitable for small scale change projects; ignored organizational power and politics; and was top down and management driven. This article seeks to re appraise Lewin s work and challenge the validity of these views. It begins by describing Lewin s background and beliefs, especially his commitment to resolving ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The article concludes by arguing that rather than being outdated, Lewin s Planned approach is still very relevant to the needs of the modern world. LEWIN S BACKGROUND Few social scientists can have received the level of praise and admiration that has been heaped upon Kurt Lewin (Ash, 1992; Bargal et al., 1992; Dent and Goldberg, 1999; Dickens and Watkins, 1999; Tobach, 1994). As Edgar Schein (1988, p. 239) enthusiastically commented: There is little question that the intellectual father of contemporary theories of applied behavioural science, action research and planned change is Kurt Lewin. His seminal work on leadership style and the experiments on planned change which took place in World War II in an effort to change consumer behaviour launched a whole generation of research in group dynamics and the implementation of change programs. 978 B. Burnes Blackwell Publishing Ltd 2004For most of his life, Lewin s main preoccupation was the resolution of social con flict and, in particular, the problems of minority or disadvantaged groups. Underpinning this preoccupation was a strong belief that only the permeation of democratic values into all facets of society could prevent the worst extremes of social conflict. Through activity based assessment children s social interactions, developmental skills, learning styles and behaviors are all evaluated through their play. (Curtis, 2015) 2. Gage understands the numeral words 1 through 9. He demonstrated this when he counted the pepperoni on his pizza. He counted to 8, but missed the number 5. This is normal because 3 year olds can normally only count to 5. He does understand counting and one to one counting because he placed three circles of sauce, on three different crusts, and counted as he placed them on each pizza. It is also typical that he could make the colored toppings with the same colored bowl. When children are 3 years old they begin to understand concepts like grouping and matching. (Child Development Tracker, 2003) Heidi did not use any number words or count when she was playing with the pizza. This is still typical because she has recently turned 3 and some 3 year old might not be able to recognize numerals zero through nine or count until they are closer to 4 years old. Maysonet CJA/204 08 April 2013 Prof. Ron Alter Crime Rates In America In society s day and age, Americans believe that crime has been steadily increasing. This perspective is based on information provided to the public by criminologist. Our society relies heavily on statistical data to measure criminality and the effectiveness of the laws that govern society. This data is collected and formulated to create what is known as national crime reports. These reports were implemented to improve the structure of the laws that govern our society. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These reports are based only on the crimes that have been reported by victims or discovered by police. In the cases of crimes that are less serious, the data used for these reports are that which resulted in arrest only (not reported crimes). These reports do not include crimes that have not been reported, have been omitted from these reports, or cases which prosecutors declined to prosecute due to lack of evidence. Although these crimes are not indicated on these reports, they still contribute to our society s criminality. Another way that crime rates can be deceiving is the views between street crimes and white collar crimes. To the public eye street crimes, which consist of crimes such as Murder, Rape, Robbery, Assault, Kidnapping, Arson, etc. is the more devastating to society. Whereas white collar crimes such as Embezzlement, Tax evasion, Price fixing, Bank fraud, Concealment of product liabilities, etc. are not seen as detrimental to society. The UCR and NCVS reports tend to focus more on street crime as apposed to white collar crimes. This can lead the public to believe contrary to reality. When researching this comparison, we will find an overwhelming disparity which shows that white collar crime affect society far worse than street crime in the form of financial cost, property lose or damage, and personal injury or death (Robinson 2011). Although the Norsemen are infamous for their pillaging and plundering they were also intensely focused on establishing sufficient trade routes throughout Europe and implementing economically sustainable villages with functional currency. Although the barbarian invasions undoubtedly deepened the initial economic crisis and the emergence of the barbarian kingdoms made traveling less safe which accelerated the collapse of long distance trade. At the same time also declining the importance of the cities as cultural and trade centers. The claim that the barbarian invasions resulted in a long tenured period of general economic and cultural decline can be argued against with sufficient evidence. Considering the economic crisis started much earlier and could not be reversed neither by the reforms of Diocletian nor of Constantine. It was not until after this initial depression that the extensive trade routes of the Norsemen were able to redefine Europe economically and culturally. The established Norse trade network included trading relationships ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Does Shakespeare Present The Conflict In Romeo And Juliet In Act I of the play, Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare addresses the topic of feuding families and the many issues it brings about. He implies that this conflict will bring about disaster on both families. The play begins with the chorus entering and introducing the story with the prologue. Then, two Capulet servants enter boasting about what they would do to the Montagues. Immediately, we can tell that the conflict extends beyond just the family themselves. Just then, they spot a Montague servant and try to trick him into starting a fight. Just as the Montague servant draws his sword, Benvolio arrives and tries to stop the fighting. The observer never knows what the players are going to do next with respect to where, how hard, or even how soft they will send or hit the ball. All of this movement is not just by chance however, physics is at work throughout every moment the ball is on the court. Starting with the basics we must look first at force. Force can be defined as the strength or energy exerted or brought to bear which causes motion or a change in motion. There are multiple forces acting on the ball throughout the course of a match. The main force being exerted comes from the racket which gets its energy from the player. Other forces acting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since hitting the ball is really how the game of tennis is played these laws of motion are very important. Another concept that is important when looking at the physics of tennis is gravity. As mentioned earlier, one of the main forces acting on the ball is the force the ground exerts on the ball to make it bounce back up into the air. The force of gravity is what pulls the ball to the ground so the ground can exert its force on the ball. Just like everything else on Earth, or any planet or celestial body for that matter, gravity is acting on the ball at all times. Now, from the previous discussion on force we know that force is in a direct relationship with acceleration. So, because the exact force of gravity is at all times acting on the ball. The ball is constantly accelerating. Now, due to the force of the players on the ball and the ground on the ball once it hits the ground it is always accelerating in different directions; however, it will always tend to be pulled down toward the ground due to gravity. One can calculate the exact force of gravity on the ball by multiplying the mass of the ball times the acceleration due to gravity which is always of the value of 9.8 m/s2. Another concept of physics that plays a role in tennis is that of momentum. We have previously discussed that the racket exerts a force on the ball and the ball exerts a force on the ... Cyrus II was born around 580 B.C. in Anshan, Iran (Persia) in which Cyrus was supposed to have been said to grow up there. Cyrus is supposedly the grandson of the Median king Astyages. When Cyrus was born, Astyages had a dream that one day Cyrus would overthrow him as the ruler. Computer Networks And Its Impact On The Retail Store Front With the use of mainframe computers, we have gained cost effective critical transaction processing because of the mainframe s scalability; reliable hardware and software compatibility; and, the mainframe s security infrastructure makes maintaining and managing the mainframe more feasible. Compared to commodity servers, mainframe transaction processing is scalable because many businesses experience massive increases in computational loads (Hallman, 2015). Let us consider this circumstance: During a retail store front s hours of operation, there may be many customers making product purchases. Simultaneously, there may be many customers seeking refunds on their product purchases. One can also consider that this retail store front offers its services over the Internet with the use of an e commerce operation called metrics management. This e commerce operation encompasses web analytics, channel metrics, financial metrics, and product metrics. With the use of metrics management, one can measure the effectiveness of the Internet channel and the retail store front channel by analyzing the quantity of product purchases and product refunds to deduce which channel promotes a financially effective service; or, one could objectively consider to have these channels work in tandem to capture a product purchase in any way possible. In this circumstance, the quantity of product purchases and product refunds are metrics that require computational loads because the mainframe would store and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From its low point in 1973, the wealthiest Americans income share now exceeds even that which they held in 1928, on the eve of the Great Depression. Experts have pointed to several potential culprits, including the underrepresentation of lower and middle class citizens in legislatures, the shrinking power of organized labor, the expanding power of organized business, and a tax system that seems to disproportionately favor those at the top at the expense of those on the bottom. Per an April 2016 Gallup poll, 61% of Americans believe that the wealthy pay too little in taxes (Gallup), so Americans at least agree in principle that taxes should be increased for the wealthy. Additionally, by emphasizing elements of the measure that could appeal to conservative voters, such as keeping money from leaving the economy, candidates could generate crossover appeal to both conservative and liberal parts of the electorate. The chief difficulty, ultimately, will be overcoming the formidable organizations those with a vested interest in keeping taxes low can bring to bear. Just as they did in the 1970 s, business and financial leaders will marshal their extensive capacity to launch multi faceted campaigns (Hacker 125), exerting pressure on incumbent candidates to distance themselves from the new tax policy and organizing opposition via advertising, political action committees, and donations. In 1856, Barrett Browning published Aurora Leigh which is her longest work. In her article Elizabeth Barrett Browning and Expatriate Women Poetry, Allison Chapman states that Aurora Leigh represents a decisive shift in women s poetry away from the English poetess and toward a more muscular, political, public, epic poetics (4). In Victorian England, an educated woman with unusual talents had almost no opportunity to make use of her skills in a world that was dominated by men (Chapman 4). Giant Steppes Toward Freedom by Ancestors It is difficult for many Americans today to imagine taking everything they own and moving to a new country because of religious and political freedoms. With these freedoms taken so much for granted, we rarely think of the steps taken by our ancestors to gain that liberty. When looking at attempts in history to gain freedom, it is usual to look to the founding fathers of America and their sacrifices. However, other groups of people have strived for the same thing, one such group being the people of the divided German states shortly after the Seven Year s War. Through several generations of Germans, these people moved across country, across continent, and eventually even across the ocean to America in order to gain that much desired freedom. In about 1763, the Germans were experiencing many problems. With the seven years war just behind them, much of the land had been destroyed. Crops were trampled, and properties were decimated, making the living conditions in Germany very difficult. On top of that, the war had left the political system in a state of chaos. At that time, Germany was not together as a nation but was rather divided into forty two different states. Unified Germany as we know it today did not come about until much later, in about 1872. During this time minority religions struggled in the German states. • 31. A Brief Look at France II. Essay One The state which we today call France has undergone significant change since its origins as the territory of Gaul. Between the years 480 and 1780, this territory was reshaped in terms of both its physical boundaries and its inhabitants and rulers, creating a rich history of the nation of modern France. First, in order to analyze the evolution of the state of France, it is necessary to define the concept of the state. A state is a territory, defined by physical or imagined boundaries, containing a population of people that is governed by a select few of those people. Within the state, the government has authority and the power to impose their power on the rest of the population, enacting laws such as taxation, fighting wars, and implementing a criminal justice system. It is now appropriate to consider the territorial expansion and, at times, contraction of France from 480 and 1780. Before France was united in any kind of Frankish state, the territory we now call France was mostly comprised of an area called Gaul. This area, existing in parts of Spain and Rome, parts of present day Belgium, Germany, Austria and other European nations, and south of England and the English channel, was inhabited by the Gauls up until the end of Roman rule in the 1st 3rd centuries CE. According to Dan Way, Dr. Shea reported that short term toxic harm resulted from the spill, and that there were only isolated cases of coal ash contaminating groundwater (2014). However, there was agreement that long term monitoring was necessary at the Dan River to assess longer term damages. Additionally, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) published a response update to assess potential impacts to human and aquatic life (2014). The method the EPA employed was to analyze surface water and sediments for contaminants and compare those results to its screening levels. To assess impact to human health, the EPA compared the sediment data to health risk screening levels and compared drinking water samples to Maximum Contaminant Levels (MCLs) as well as to other indicators. Overall, the EPA found those levels found in sediment data and water samples to not exceed human health screening levels and thus determined that there wasn t significant risk to human health, although the EPA did recommend that people do not come in direct contact with coal ash as it could still pose health risks. These findings were consistent with that of Dr. Shea. Secondarily, the EPA compared the sediment data and water samples to ecological risk based screening levels. Many people question why he chose a caged bird to symbolize a slave for many reasons. Birds were the complete opposite of slaves, birds were free and seemed to always be full of joy. Whereas slaves were caged and mistreated by their owners. The comparison between the two gives the reader a sense of irony. In the first stanza, Dunbar says he knows how the caged bird feels. • 44. Internal Devaluation And Its Effects On The Economy Furthermore, the Fund also recognized that after nearly four years of internal devaluation, the economic strategy had not succeeded. The idea of an internal devaluation is that if you create enough mass unemployment and push wages down far enough, the economy can become more competitive due to lower labor costs. This allows exports to grow, and import competing industries to also do better, improving the trade balance. Since exports add to economic growth and employment, and reduced imports do the same, the economy can recover in this scenario due to increasing net exports (exports minus imports). Normally this could be attempted through a devaluation of the currency. But the troika has only recently shown any intention of trying to push the euro s value down against external trading partners; and of course since it is a common currency, the more depressed economies within the currency union can t devalue against the others (e.g. Spain versus Germany). This leaves internal devaluation as the remaining hope for recovery for countries such as Spain, Greece, and Portugal. In other words, despite the negative impact of the fiscal austerity, the theory is that internal devaluation based on lower labor costs can drive recovery based on the growth of net exports. But it took years to reach this point despite crushing levels of unemployment and mandated reductions in the social wage (e.g., pensions and health care). • 53. Honesty In The Meaning Of Honesty Student ID: 12172021 Deceptive honesty, deception that highlights honesty. Can we use honesty to justify deceit? We can say an individual is honest when they do not lie, but what about an individual that brings out the truth in others? One s ability to understand, interpret, and conjure the truth may make them even more truthful than someone who is always honest. Why are you fearful? (42:2) are the first words spoken by Jacob at the start his sons journey to Egypt. This innocent question carries with it an overarching theme of Genesis that there is no need for fear when being honest. In the story of Jacob s son, Joseph, one can see how deception can bring out fear and in doing so, evoke even more truth. The story of Joseph s deceit toward his brothers would perhaps be more accurately called one of honesty. His original lie ultimately gave way to far more truth than deception. Joseph s lie gave us insight into his own character and allows us to better understand why he was chosen by God to be an interpreter of His words. In the first of meeting between Jacob and his brothers in Egypt truth immediately begins to arise from Joseph s duplicity. The language used by Joseph and Jacob, both of whom have a strong connection to God, at the very beginning of chapter 42 already insinuate a need for honesty. The idea of the land s nakedness (42:10) referred to many times is a symbol of the naked uncensored truth that Joseph s brothers will extol. The surprising honesty of ...
