Oil Drilling and Pollution
One way that drilling for oil destroys animals homes is that fossil fuels create carbon dioxide, and then
that burned carbon dioxide goes into the atmosphere and then Global Warming is starting to melt the
ice caps that animals live on. Also, drilling the new wells that we have to drill to get the oil, that
makes the amount of land for the animals to make homes go down, and when the land amount goes
down so does the length of the animals, like the polar bear, go down. The average length of the polar
bears mating season is about from the months March until May. Where they want to reproduce is
normally around where seals like to be. But then When Global Warming gets more and more
threatening, they have nowhere to go now. Males tend to be very aggressive during the mating period,
so that kills off the population even more. When the female gets pregnant, she gains at least 44o
pounds because once the ice breaks, she won t be able to hunt for food. Another reason is that if we
happen to have an oil spill, that will devastate all the animals in the Arctic. For example, the oil spill in
the Gulf of Mexico oil spill was created because when the BP operated rig Macondo Prospect
exploded. The area in the Gulf that was affected by the spill was eight thousand five hundred miles, to
nine thousand, four hundred and twenty one miles in 2010. But, the use of technology has really
helped the oil and gas industry because it has stopped useless drilling. An example of this would be

Portrayal Of Women In Trifles
Throughout American Literature women are wrongfully portrayed as worrisome and small minded
objects that are in need of a man to think and care for them. Throughout literary works like Susan
Glaspell s Trifles and Kate Chopin s The Story Of An Hour women are told to stay in the home and
take care of her family. The women are kept in the home, and any life outside of this sphere must first
be approved by her husband. In both of these pieces women are suppressed by this notion, and in
Trifles this oppressive view causes women to form an inseparable bond, and sparks the creation of a
sisterhood.
In Kate Chopin s short story you see, a woman who has heart troubles, Louise Mallard die when her
husband who is supposedly in a fatal accident returns to their home (Chopin). In this story her life is
psychologically torpid, causing her to live an anemic life until her husband s supposed death (Jamil).
When breaking the news to Louise, her sister, Josephine, and a family friend, Richards, take great care
in breaking the news of the her husband s lethal railroad disaster. This is so her heart troubles cannot
cause her to have any problems, like a heart attack happen. Once told the news, Louise begins to
mourn her loving husband s death; weeping, she goes to her room and refuses for anyone to follow her
(Chopin). This, however, is when she recognizes her new found freedom. Louise s marriage is a form
of slavery, where she has to comply with her husband s mandates (Jamil). Even though

Examples Of Rebirth In The Road By Cormac Mccarthy
The Rebirth of a New Man:
A Journey of Hope among the Contradictions Inherent in Human Nature.
A man and a child, father and son, are alone against an inclement nature while pushing a cart filled
with tools, blankets, and things that they have found along the way to the south. About ten years
before the world had been reduced to ashes by an apocalyptic disaster, which it is not known whether
it was caused by a natural event or the foolishness of human beings. The world is reduced to a single
color, gray, that of the ashes covering all that is left, that of hearts and minds, clouded by the pain of
the loss and the terror of solitude. All that is left of the humankind is a few tenacious survivors
struggling unceasingly against hunger and cold, and those who have lost any trace of humanity giving
free vent to the lowest instincts of oppression and violence. But in the novel The Road, Cormac
McCarthy paints a vivid and dramatic picture of the catastrophic consequences of a cataclysm that are
nothing more than an excuse to minimize the outer contingencies with the sole purpose to bring up
what is really dear to his heart, the relationship between a father and a son. They have been
deliberately left unnamed for the whole story to epitomize the archetypes of the man and the child, a
hymn to paternity, and to unconditional love. In a world reduced to the essentials, McCarthy aims not
merely to explore the complexities of the relationship between the two, which in fact remains

Pros And Cons Of School Uniforms
Should students wear school uniforms? This is a topic that has been thoroughly argued, yet to no
prevail on either side. I believe school uniforms overall impact children and the education community
negatively. There are many strong reasons to turn down this policy. These include how the uniforms
effect the children and their learning, the sneakiness behind school administrations who utilize this
system, and how the children feel about the uniforms.
First, is how the uniforms affect the children in a negative way. I know a family just a few houses up
the street whose kids go to a Catholic school. Religion set aside, they have to wear uniforms to school.
Often I see them getting out of the car, ripping off their bows and ties with a sort of disgust. My friend
from that family, Aaron, states on the topic, They are uncomfortable, which actually distracts me more
from learning and paying attention. This shows how school uniforms affect the learning environment
negatively and impact children in a negative way. Everyone has heard the phrase, if you get hurt it s
your own fault. But what if you never get the chance to be hurt? You ll never learn. It s the same way
with something as simple as clothing. If children wear vulgar clothing to school then you can talk to
them and tell them it s wrong. It is bad preparation for the real world if we are telling children what to
do, rather than letting them learn to better prepare themselves for the real world.
Next, is the sneakiness behind the administration and their altered statistics. Long beach California is a
town that incorporates school uniforms into their schooling. The district claims the academic success
and low violence rates are due to the school uniforms. They did leave out the other improvements in
their districts including, promotion of conflict resolution, peer mediation, and parental involvement.
The superintendent of this district made a comment to the Harvard Education Letter stating, It is really
hard to know exactly what is causing the positive effect. This shows how districts are hiding other
information to promote how well uniforms fix problems when in reality, it could be many things. The

Carl Lewis Views On Track And Field
Carl Lewis said the trials on the road to world harmony are no greater than the courage of those who
accept the challenge . Track and field is a sport which includes athletics in running, jumping, and
throwing. The Smithsonian Museum has a lot of different artifacts, but it holds a very important track
jersey: Carl Lewis . Because of crushing records and maintaining determination, Carl Lewis made an
impact on history when he became one of the best track stars.
Carl worked hard everyday even through the rough time to have success in track and field. A little boy
he took a tape measure and put it in his backyard wondering how could a person jump so far (AAseng,
1985). Even though he just a kid athlete have to work hard everyday and use what they got. Since he
was eight he ran around playing with his family ( Carl Lewis, 2017). As a matter of fact he would
jump and play in sandpit (Jacobs, 2017). He spend long hour running in the yard and jumping around.
Although his parents both were track coaches they build their own track club (Jacobs, 2017). Also
they were Carl Lewis first coaches (Jacobs, 2017). Eventually this gave Carl Lewis lots of time to
practice running and jumping. At first Carl Lewis would always lose one day he when up to his dad
and said I am tired of losing (AAseng, 2017). His dad respond and say either work harder or quit
(AAseng, 2017). Although he was always getting frustrated he never give up and work will hard be to
good. This was start of Carl Lewis

Cost Minimization Analysis Paper
Cost minimization analysis is mostly applied in the health sector and is a method used to measure and
compare the costs of different medical interventions Springer. Cost minimization analysis is the
simplest type of cost analysis. The central focus is that one medical intervention is the same as
another, at lower cost. That is the outcomes must be the same. If an institution wishes to substitute and
anesthesia drug which cost $100 less than another there are several question that need to be answered
prior to changing vendors or manufacturers. The first is quality of the medication. The Food and Drug
Administration requires the drug to have the same active ingredients but the the inactive ingredients
may not necessary be the same. The issue is the drug may be the absorbed different due to its inactive
ingredients.. Some patient may not similarly absorb the medication which may require that greater
quantities may be needed to achieve the anesthetic effect that is desired. As the purchaser of the less
costly medication, I would ask the manufacturer to supply data, in controlled studies to support that
the drug is not only therapeutic from the required active ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Will it cost more to prepare the medication and administer the lower cost medication? If the more
costly medication was for example in a single use vial this may require no more than transferring the
medication form the pharmacy to the operating room, where the anesthesia staff can administer the
medication. If however the the medication is purchased in a multi use vial it may require the pharmacy
to prepare the medication and then be distributed to the operating room or other areas of the hospital.
The man hours associated with this could be significant and more costly than using a single dose vial.
So therefore the direct and indirect cost of preparation need to be

Warehouse 13 Book Report
During this summer, my friends recommended that I watch a season of Warehouse 13 since I m fond
of science fiction movies, television shows, and books. I thought it was well made therefore I watched
all of the episodes and I love most of the seasons. The fifth season seemed rushed and was only six
episodes. Other shows I enjoy watching are Doctor Who, Supernatural, and The X Files but there s an
overabundance of episodes. Warehouse 13 is distinctive by seeing that it won t take up much time.
This show has five seasons and around sixty episodes. They last around forty minutes each so I
finished the series in two weeks. I normally don t binge watch; however, after seeing the Indiana Jones
based episode I finished fairly quickly.

Of the 4 articles analyzed, one was a retrospective study that examined demographic and outcome
data for the 125 patients in a group at high risk for venous CRI (Baskin et al., 2014). The second
article was a randomized, controlled experimental study (Duzkaya, 2016). Consecutively, two were
quasiexperimental studies, one consisting of an intervention group who received an antimicrobial
PICC and patients in a nonintervention group who received nonantimicrobial PICCs (Rutkoff, 2014),
and the other consisted of 160 participants, where 80 received routine care and the other 80 received a
different nursing protocol (Kaya et al., 2016). These articles exposed different strategies to prevent

Another article which also supported the idea of preventing infection by the use of antimicrobial
catheter was The Influence of an Antimicrobial Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter on Central Line
Associated Bloodstream Infections in a Hospital Environment by Glenell S. Rutkoff, MSN, RN,
CGRN. This research included 2 groups consisting of 260 patients each. The nonintervention group
included adult, hospitalized patients who received an unprotected single or dual lumen PICC during a
6 month period. The intervention group included adult, hospitalized patients who had the study
antimicrobial PICC placed during a 6 month period. This study found that the 2 groups were not
significantly different when they were compared using c2 for homogeneity of age, gender (P ¼ .09),
ethnicity (P ¼ .047), and unit (P ¼ .01). There was a statistically significant decrease in the rate of
CLABSI from 4.18/1,000 catheter days to 0.47/1,000 catheter days when the antimicrobial PICC was
used. With the information provided by both of these research articles it can be concluded that the
implementation of antimicrobial and antibiotic use in central lines, diminishes the risk for infection
(Rutkoff, 2014).
A strategy that was also put into practice to decrease the risk of infections of central lines was the
implementation of Chlorhexidine impregnated dressings. This strategy was further discussed in the
article Chlorhexidine Impregnated Dressings and Prevention of

Douglas Hofstadter s Le Ton Beau De Marot
While many forms of writing are absolutely difficult to translate, as shown by Douglas Hofstadter s
analysis of a French poem by Clément Marot in Le Ton Beau de Marot, song lyrics would arguably
require the most effort. In addition to the basic semantic translation required of any text in order to
preserve meaning, translated songs would need to maintain a similar rhythm in both a musical and a
more syntactic sense as the original in order to convey a similar tone. This task means that many songs
could be considered somewhat untranslatable, since in many cases, such prosody could not be
perfectly recaptured in a translation. One song that exemplifies this difficulty is Down and Out by the
band The Academy Is. The first half of the piece in particular builds a vague narrative, which is told
using rhyme schemes, the subversion of common English sayings, and rhythmic repetition of certain
phrases for emphasis. For example, the second verse contains the lyrics out of the house, she grabs the
keys, runs for the hills and doesn t leave a letter. That way the impact will be much better. First of all,
the somewhat simplistic rhyming of the words letter and better serves to illustrate the impact that the
narrator is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

In Tim O Brien s The Things They Carried, he emphasizes a chapter on The Man I Killed , which
describes the characteristics of a young Vietnamese man in which O Brien may or may not have killed
with a grenade. The novel is not chronologically sequenced, which leaves more room for the reader to
engage in a critical thought process that fully bridges the author s mind to their own. In O Brien s
chapter, The Man I Killed , he attempts to humanize the enemy in a way that draws little separation
between the enemy and himself by relating the enemy s life prior to the war to his, and illustrates the
war through the eyes of the soldiers who fought it. To understand The Man I Killed , the reader must
first enlighten themselves upon O Brien s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It wasn t until he went to war and was faced with the enemy that he would realize that the enemy wasn
t so different after all. His jaw was in his throat, his upper lip and teeth were gone, his one eye was
shut, his other eye was a star shaped hole..., writes O Brien as he studies the deceased enemy (118).
Throughout the novel, the author shows consistency with repeating stories and lines in a way to
present a greater image. He reminds the reader of details the elaborate his larger view. When he writes
of the man he killed, he wants the reader to imagine themselves in his shoes, as he imagined himself in
the enemies . As he carefully studies the dead man, he imagines how the boy found himself in the war.
By relating American society to the boy s village of My Khe, he bridges similarities connecting the
two by a culture that promotes defending one s land and ways of life. By saying, he would have been
taught that to defend the land was a man s highest duty and highest privilege, he shows there is
minimal difference between how most Americans view the military and the duty of the villagers in My
Khe (119). Although he had not known the exact history of the boy, he attempted to illustrate in his
own mind what his life may have been like prior to the invasion. The inability for O Brien to walk
away from the body as Kiowa continued to pry him away says he was troubled by the similarities.
Despite Kiowa saying it could have been him lying lifeless on

Analysis Of. Eliot s Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock
In T.S. Eliot s Love song of J. Alfred Prufrock, Prufrock invites the reader on a journey with him
through his story of love, or love that never was. He speaks to the reader as his love lost and asks her
to stick with him on his journey through time, to learn why their love never transpired. He begins by
showing her his decisions as a young adult, optimistic and confident in time, to prepare for her. Time
goes by, he is now middle aged and insecure of his appearance, now in fear of her rejection and unsure
if he has missed his window. Nearing the end of the poem he has grown older still, having wasted all
time, knowing now that his love story will never be, he is ready to show his lost love, why. Young
Adult Prufrock begins as lite hearted and carefree. He invites his love on a walk at dusk through the
sleazy streets of their town. Begging her not to question him just yet of where they are going, Oh do
not ask what is it let us go and make our visit. (Eliot) Prufrock is confident in time, comfortable in
procrastinating. There will be time, there will be time, to prepare a face to meet the faces that you
meet; there will be time to murder and create; and time for all the works and days of hands that lift and
drop a question on your plate: time for you and time for me, (Eliot) Looking further into the text here,
it leaves the impression that he is stringing the love along, expecting her to wait until he is ready,
assuming that she will always be there when he decides

Innovations Needed for Deep Space Exploration Essay examples
It is within man s blood and nature to explore, and space is our next New World. Man s first
achievement in space travel was the launch of the Sputnik on October 4, 1957. For the next decades,
space travel was roaring like a rocket, fueled by man s desire to explore, man s desire for knowledge,
and man s desire to beat his enemies. However, these impulses have died out as the well of
government funding has been diverted to wars and debts, and the interest of the American people has
been diverted to wars and debts. Amidst all these issues it is debated as to whether or not space travel
is worth the money and the attention of scientists, particularly since humanity faces so many issues on
earth currently. However, because of the past ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Outside of the desire to win, it was an immensely interesting idea to get people into space. The
thought held awe, inspiration, and desire Man was able to go to space, but only if we try, and by golly,
we will. The final reason was not as evident to the public, but still important. Because of space travel s
popular support, scientists were able to flex their creative muscles with seemingly perpetual funding
while being cool doing so. This brought the best minds together and allowed them to open up to ideas
previously thought impossible, especially with the recent advent of electronics. Not only was it
possible to send a rocket into space, it was possible to send a man into space in fact it was possible for
man to go to the moon. Even further, unmanned vehicles could rove around on the surface of Mars,
and in the future unmanned probes would even escape our solar system. All that changed. The hype of
the space bubble did not immediately burst, but instead slowly leaked out, starting after reaching the
moon, the anti climax of the space station, and finishing out with the collapse of the Soviet Union.
There was no competition, we had achieved our goal, and the flow of money was starting to be
noticed. Debts, politics, and wars gained more focus and attention both economically and popularly.
As a result, attention towards space travel dwindled. The National Aeronautics and Space
Administration received a big slash

Scots Law of Contract
All of the case studies are concerned with the Law of Contract, specifically the formation of a contract
and the differences between an invitation to treat and a contract. We will investigate each consumers s
specific contract or lack thereof individually and advise Bruce on his legal position. A contract is an
agreement between two or more parties which in Scotland does not need to take a specific form, as a
spoken agreement is still equally as enforceable as a written contract in certain circumstances such as
in most social and domestic arrangements. A contract creates a legally binding bond between the
parties involved. Contracts are made everyday sometimes without even realising it from buying a

The area of Law concerned in this case is The Law of Contract specifically relating to the revocation
of an offer and counter offers. The case Wolf and Wolf vs Forfar Potato Co Ltd (1984) directly links to
the case between Bruce and Ken. As Bruce is once again dealing with the Law of Contract specifically
the non acceptance of an offer, he is under no legal obligation to sell Ken the rare vinyl at the original
price of £40. When Ken rejected the original offer he created a counter offer which in Scots law is a
completely new offer and caused Bruce s original offer to lapse and was up to Bruce to decide wether
or not to accept the new terms, after Bruce rejected the counter offer all offers between Bruce and Ken
had lapsed. When Ken came back insisting that there was a contract between them and he was entitled
to the album Bruce was in fact under no legal requirement to give Ken the vinyl as all offers had
lapsed and no contract existed between then. In the case of Fisher v Bell (1961) a shopkeeper had

Another goal of the strategic plan was to increase excellence in the programs (Florida State
University, 2017c). Merit based funding would help recruit the brightest students and motivate them to
want to attend the university. High merit students were more enticed to attend an in state college that
provided merit based funding (Domina, 2014).
By providing merit based funding, the university would make a return on investment. There was more
of an increase of revenue for merit based aid compared to aid given to low income students (Weisbrod
et al., 2011). Also, the university would receive preeminent funding from the state that was based on
the preeminent criteria that was mentioned above (The Florida Legislature, 2017). There were other
forms of return on investment. Higher institutions that dispersed merit based funding had a higher
student enrollment and higher number of students receiving a bachelor s degree (Domina, 2014).
Universities needed to keep tuition costs down for students (Patterson, 2016), and merit based funding
was a way to decrease costs to the students who did not qualify for need based funding (Weisbrod et

funding from donations (Florida State University, 2017b). The vision for increasing merit based

Significance Of The Battle Of Remagen
Ludendorff Bridge in Germany: Battle of Remagen during WWII The Ludendorff bridge, the bridge
that connects Remagen and the small village of Erpel was constructed during World War I in 1916 and
was later finished around 1918 1919. During the end of World War II, specifically during the Allied
Invasion of Germany, the bridge was found still standing. In shock, the Allies tried to capture the
bridge. The German troops, which was in the other side of the bridge try their best not prevent the U.S
Army from getting in. The battle that occurred, which was mainly known as The Battle of Remagen
happened during the 1 7 March 1945. This bridge is significant to World War II because its existence
triggers the battle between the German troops and U.S troops, which later give a huge impact towards
the end of World War II.
This bridge or was mainly known as the Remagen Bridge was built mainly due to the support from
General Erich Ludendorff, so the bridge was named after him. As it was built during the World War I,

To My Dear And Loving Husband Essay
Marriage: any of the diverse forms of interpersonal union established in various parts of the world to
form a familial bond that is recognized legally, religiously, or socially, granting the participating
partners mutual conjugal rights and responsibilities... (CITATION) In the definition of marriage there
is no mention of love, yet in western civilization, love is considered the deciding factor in taking that
leap. Anne Bradstreet wrote in her poem To My Dear and Loving Husband If ever two were one, then
surely we. If ever man were loved by wife, then thee; if ever wife was happy in a man, Compare with
me ye women if you can (CITATION). Even though she lived in a Puritan home, Bradshaw freely
expressed her love for her husband. This expression could have been viewed as just as radical as
homosexual marriage is today. One of the biggest phrases people supporting the Lesbian, Gay,
Bisexual, Transgender, LGBT, movement use is, Love is love. People associated with this movement
also ask heterosexuals what they would do if marriage was not allowed to them. Yet the Hindi
philosophy says that one marries, and then falls in love. Is the reason America is in such turmoil over
the various types of marriage in comparison to other countries because this country loves first, and
marries second? If love were taken out of the business deal that marriage essentially is, would
America be in less turmoil? America as a country would be better economically and socially if

Persuasive Essay On Genetically Modified Food
At the rate the world is going at now, it is not far fetched to believe that in a few years the world
population could be at ten billion. In order to support all ten billion of these people, actions need to be
taken to ensure everyone will be fed. Some techniques to ensure food security include producing and
supporting the production of genetically modified foods, implicating the practice of urban farming and
aquaculture, better management of wasted foods and educating the general population on food waste.
One solution to help feed the global population is implementing the production of genetically
modified foods. A genetically modified food is an organism in which the genetic material has been
altered in a way that does not occur naturally by mating and/or natural recombination. Genetically
modified crops have been produced since 1994 and have many benefits to them compared to regular
crops. Many genetically modified crops have been altered so the plant has a stronger resilience to
insects, are more tolerable to herbicides, extreme weather conditions and have a longer shelf life. With
a longer shelf life, the crops are able to be exported to more remote locations without spoiling,
providing food to places that lack the ability to grow their own crops. Since these crops are more
resilient to insects, the amount of toxic bacteria that is added to help repel the insects is decreased.
Plants being stronger and more buoyant to common plant problems allow farmers to produce

Analysis Of The Movie Juice
Aristotle was an ancient Greek philosopher and scientist that laid much of the foundation for Western
philosophy. He was a person who sought out explanations that were unorthodox. His principles of
common sense were built on naturalism and self realization, which greatly influenced the world. His
systematic concept of logic touched upon ethics. As an illustration, in the movie Juice, some of
Aristotle s beliefs and principles on friendship, character, and happiness are heavily portrayed
throughout the film. The movie Juice, is a story of four male teenage friends from Harlem. They re

Tom Wolfe s The Right Stuff
After that, Alan Shepard is chosen to be the first man in space and he perfectly landing in the ocean at
the end of his space travel. Then, the other six Astronauts lobbed into space one by one, and all of
them are eventually landed safely. Hence, the press and media treat them as American Heroes despite
their mistakes, such as the Gus Grissom mistakenly pops the top off the capsule at the wrong time. As
the result, NASA became the topic of focus for the people all over the country, which spurred by the

At the beginning, Tom Wolfe s curiosity and interest for the space program promotes him to write the
book about the test pilots, astronauts, and the United State space program. In this book, Wolfe is trying
to send the unique message to the reader, which is that the career of the test pilots and astronauts are
determined by their possession of the right stuff . Moreover, he also uses massive logical evidence
with persuasive sources to prove his opinions. Besides, on the background of the space race between
the Soviet Union and the United States during the Cold War period, seven American astronauts risk
their lives by going into space. After they made unbelievable achievements and contributions in the
space for their country, the citizens regarded them as the American heroes in single combat against the
powerful Russians. In the book, Tom Wolfe depicts the right stuff such as bravery, experience, and the
coolness of the test pilots and seven astronauts, which is in order to prove them as the epitome of the
American Heroism. From this book, the conclusion is that the Heroism is an influential element for
the country during that time period. In essence, the true story of the test pilots and the seven astronauts
conquered the sound barrier and space with their own heroism tell us that this world needs more

Social Classes In Romeo And Juliet
In the book, Romeo and Juliet I learned about social classes and how people were supposed to live
their lives based on what class they lived in. People in this era were either born into their classes or
could marry into another class. They could also become noble by grant of the king or queen. When
reading the script from Romeo and Juliet I wanted to learn more about social classes in the
Elizabethan era. I have learned that a person s color of their shirt was an example of what class they
were in. It was considered a defiance if they wore clothes that were not acceptable in their class. Their
was six main classes in this era the monarch, the nobility, the gentry, the merchants, the yeomanry, and
the laborers. They believed it was God who made these classes. I will be talking about the different
social classes, how many social classes there were, and how they were maintained.
In the Elizabethan era, their lives were governed by strict laws and rule. According to Elizabethan Era,
the Parliament regulated the clothes that can only be worn by each rank and it was considered a
defiance of the order if a laborer wore clothes of the rich. The Parliament governed the citizens very
strictly, and even decided what the people would wear. Stated by Melanie Jones, a person s class
determined how they could dress, where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Longitudinal Waves Lab Report
Our purpose of the lab is to study the different types of waves, along with, their properties. The
procedures we did was to send a single wave to your partner. Then, move one end forward and back to
create a longitudinal wave. Although, you move the slinky up and down to create a transverse wave.
The result that we got was quite surprising. The waves created different energy outputs. We learned
that the different motions we make with a slinky can create different waves.
Introduction
I wanted to see if I can construct waves. Waves can move energy from one place to another. Energy
has particles that pass from one to another. A slinky is a great toy that can demonstrate the two basic
waves, Longitudinal and transverse. Longitudinal are waves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Procedures
Select a lab partner and gather the lab material.
On a smooth surface, stretch the slinky out between you and your partner, to a length of about four
meters.(Caution Do not overstretch the slinky)
Send a single wave to your partner.
Observe what happen to the wave when it reaches your partners ends.
Move one end of the slinky back and forth on the floor repeatedly to create a transverse wave.
Observe the what happens when you vary the rate at which your hand moves or vibrates. Next, make a
series of waves by moving your hand towards and away from your partner to make longitudinal
waves.
Observe the wave and how it travels.
When finishing the lab complete the Answer sheet.
Results
Analysis The main purpose of the lab is to study the two basic waves along with, their properties. The
results we got were diverse from each other. The longitudinal waves compress than stretches to
become a rarefaction. However, with the transverse waves, the medium was much slower when it was
moving up and down. The only similarity that the waves share is that the energy travels through the

A Summary On Data Confignancy
noindent Several existing studies employ simulations to explore the impact of node selfishness on
data delivery performance. The authors in cite{EffNonCoo 15} explore the impact of the nodes non
forwarding and partially forwarding actions on the performance of Epidemic, SnW, and Prophet
protocols in terms of the data delivery ratio and delay. The experimental results demonstrate that
DTNs tolerate a high percentage of non cooperative nodes (20 40% or even 60%) without too much
harm, even though they still utilize the other nodes resources to deliver their own messages.
Meanwhile, synthetic random mobility models are most vulnerable to less cooperation that implies
that DTNs are robust against the nodes non cooperative behavior. ... Show more content on

The Rifle Into The Federal Army
With a new century, came new advancements in technology, and weaponry. Muskets used in the
American Revolutionary War were outdated and inaccurate when it came to the Civil War. The
introduction of the rifle into the Federal Army put the Northern Army leagues ahead of the Southern
Army at the battlefield. Because of the highly industrial based economy in the North, the usage of
rifled bore firearms became widespread in the Federal Army. Moreover, rifles also saw improvements
in loading efficiency, changing the main method of loading to breech loading. Breech loading a rifle,
when compared to the archaic method of ramming the bullet down the barrel or muzzle loading,
greatly reduced the chance of injury caused by the rifle. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This allowed the cylinder of the pistol to spin freely while in half cock, enabling the soldier/wielder to
easily reload whenever he/she felt necessary. With such numerous advantages over the flintlock pistols
, the Colt Revolver essentially revolutionized the way weapons were created and their mechanisms. In
the current day, most firearms operate with a magazine which holds the bullets that are to be fired
from the weapon. Similarly, in the Colt Revolver, there was a cylinder containing the bullets that were
to be shot from the Revolver thereby maximizing the efficiency of weapons.
In addition to advancements in smaller firearms, the US military also saw improvements in the sector
of long range rifles. Muzzle loading muskets from the Revolutionary War were highly inefficient and
and extremely dangerous to use. When on the battlefield, trying to load a muzzle loading musket
became very complicated. If the soldier loaded a bullet but it got jammed, and they tried to fire, the
musket would explode in their face, causing many unnecessary injuries to the soldier force (National
Park Service, Evolution of the Breechloader ). With the invention of the breech loader, loading a rifle
became exceedingly simple. In a breech loading rifle, the soldier loads a cartridge containing the
bullet and the gunpowder into a chamber. They would then proceed to fire the weapon. This method of
loading a weapon was

Theories Of Experiential Learning Theory
Meanwhile, the Theory of Experiential Learning Cycle by David Kolb (Kolb, 1984) is also relevant to
this study. Experiential Learning Theory (ELT) defines learning as the process whereby knowledge is
created through the transformation of experience . Knowledge is a product from the combination of
both grasping and transforming experience. According to him the Experiential Learning Theory model
portrays two dialectically related modes of grasping experience; Concrete Experience and Abstract
Conceptualization, and two dialectically relevant modes of transforming experience; Reflective
Observation and Active Experimentation. Experiential learning is a process of formulating knowledge
that involves a creative tension between the four learning modes that is responsive to contextual
demands. This process is portrayed as an ideal learning cycle or spiral where the ... Show more

These modes are only responsive to certain contexts. Thus, the learning process is portrayed as a
learning cycle where the learner assumes each of the four domains; experiencing, reflecting, thinking,
and acting (Kolb Kolb, 2005). The recursive process is responsive to each other; the learner, learning
experience, and on the content learned. Immediate or concrete experiences are the impetus for
observations and reflections. Without these learning would be impossible even at the very beginning.
Later on, reflections then can be assimilated in the old experience and deduced it into abstract
concepts from which new implications for action are drawn. These new implications are then used for
active experimentation, which leads to new concrete experiences (Kolb Kolb, 2005). With the
production of new concrete experiences it already leads us into a complete cycle of learning under

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Citizenship...
It is said that a Malaysian born citizen s citizenship cannot be revoked by the state government.
According to Lawyer and constitutional law activist Syahredzan Johan, there are two categories of
citizens in Malaysia. The first, are those who were born in Malaysia after the year 1963 and the latter
being known as naturalized citizens. The first categories of people are those who were born in
Malaysia, like the most of us and there is no formal procedure required to apply for a Malaysian
citizenship. In the case of one of the child s parents are not citizens of Malaysia, but is born in
Malaysia, the offspring is still considered to be a Malaysian citizen. But on the other hand, if the child
has one Malaysian parent, but is born in a foreign country, he or she is not a citizen of Malaysia but

Public Education Is An Integral Part Of Human Rights...
Public education is an integral part of human rights system and entire community life; it supports the
evolution of individuals, nations and ensures the development of humankind. However, nowadays
learning is more custom made for the student s needs almost in every country, which is really helpful
for their normal life. The chance to be educated is one of the most important subjective rights of
individuals. Specifically this issue is manifested in activities involving children with certain physical
defects in our social environment. The term invalid is initially defective; we attribute it to these people
an inferiority complex in which they begin to believe. Attitude of ordinary people to people with
disabilities is different biases and prejudices. For today there are 4755902 children, 150000 out of
them belong to children with disability (Today.kz).
According to UNICEF the statistical data states that there are 62081 (1.2%) disabled children in
Kazakhstan, and each year this number increases. More and more children, who have deviations from
the conventional age norm, come in secondary school every year. They need for specialized care,
personal assistance and special mode. Toward our society is an acute problem involving our citizens to
have some features of physical development in the community, the problem of their active adaptation,
socialization and development of the public. Children with disabilities should not be isolated from the
society they belong to.

The Himalayas As A Barrier For The World
One Better Village to Live for All of Us
Some historians believe that the Himalayas acted as a barrier for the last five thousand years,
separating civilized development in China from the rest of the world. (China kept much to herself until
about two hundred years ago. Then the British, using gunpowder invented by the Chinese, forced the
door to China wide open to the West, starting the most humiliating chapter in Chinese history and the
interactions with the rest of the world). Developments in China and the West progressed at a similar
pace, despite their engaging in little intellectual communications. Great thinkers emerged in both parts
of the world about 2500 years ago, paving the way for their respective civilizations to develop
culturally and intellectually, albeit taking completely different approaches.
Confucius (born 551 BC) is the most influential figure in the Chinese history. His thoughts and those
of his followers laid the foundation, the foundation is Confucian ethics described by Fung Yu Lan in A
History of Chinese Philosophy. This is fundamentally different from the major civilizations in other
parts of the world, where traditional religions have played more dominant roles in the course of
development. We are not religious because we are philosophical, from A History of Chinese
Philosophy, for example, death often plays mysterious roles in almost all forms of religions, but not in
the mind of Confucius. When facing a question about the meaning

U.s. Foreign Policy History
The course of U.S. foreign policy history can be understood through watersheds, or critical points.
These points can serve as dividing lines that illuminate shifts in policy and opinion. However, thinking
of this history in terms of critical moments or turning points can simplify the complex actors,
sentiments and tendencies that create and influence foreign policy. These critical points are not
necessarily the sole cause of massive shifts in policy, but often add impetus to pre existing tendencies.
Nonetheless, watersheds can help the public digest patterns in foreign policy, playing an important
role in how American s perceive their role in the world. According to Brzezinski, America s
relationship with the world has been characterized by cycles of extroversion and introversion , or
involvement and isolationism. Throughout the nation s history, Americans have witnessed and
influenced many shifts or turns in this cycle, caused, exacerbated or illuminated by several critical
events. Through this lens, the Spanish American War, Pearl Harbor, the Vietnam War and 9/11 are
critical points that added the impetus to shift the cycle of U.S. foreign policy in the other direction.
The Spanish American war paved the way for American Imperialism, illuminating a shift towards
interventionist policies. Emerging from post WWI isolationism, the attack on Pearl Harbor created an
immediate national consensus, realigning foreign policy towards international involvement and

The Issue of Media and Responsible News Coverage
October 14, 2013 Introduction The topic I chose to explore more in depth with is the issue of media
and the ethics behind responsible news coverage. I wanted to examine the guidelines of media
reporting as well as if proper aspects of responsibility, morality, and privacy is taking place when the
news instantly reports on different public issues, crimes, and incidents around the country. For
example, your child is at school when a gunman invades and openly shoots many other children and
teachers in the building. It feels like switch, within minutes of the event even occurring pictures are
shown on the TV of a classroom maybe even your own child and her class walking out of the building
in fear, that night it s on the front page of the newspaper and you had no idea. Is this acceptable? Are
there any rules or say in approving this? For me personally I would be angry in that their was no
consent for that my child to be shown in that way after something so terrible happening. I wanted to
investigate media coverage and events in relation to ethical guidelines of how scenarios should be
handled and if they are, in fact, followed in the ways learned in our from our textbook. Background In
our world today, we hear in an instant what has happened and is happening to other people in different
places around the country in a matter of minutes. The media will report on every single detail of that
story and even photographs anyone involved with the incident but is this ethical? Does

  • 2. Oil Drilling and Pollution One way that drilling for oil destroys animals homes is that fossil fuels create carbon dioxide, and then that burned carbon dioxide goes into the atmosphere and then Global Warming is starting to melt the ice caps that animals live on. Also, drilling the new wells that we have to drill to get the oil, that makes the amount of land for the animals to make homes go down, and when the land amount goes down so does the length of the animals, like the polar bear, go down. The average length of the polar bears mating season is about from the months March until May. Where they want to reproduce is normally around where seals like to be. But then When Global Warming gets more and more threatening, they have nowhere to go now. Males tend to be very aggressive during the mating period, so that kills off the population even more. When the female gets pregnant, she gains at least 44o pounds because once the ice breaks, she won t be able to hunt for food. Another reason is that if we happen to have an oil spill, that will devastate all the animals in the Arctic. For example, the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico oil spill was created because when the BP operated rig Macondo Prospect exploded. The area in the Gulf that was affected by the spill was eight thousand five hundred miles, to nine thousand, four hundred and twenty one miles in 2010. But, the use of technology has really helped the oil and gas industry because it has stopped useless drilling. An example of this would be the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Portrayal Of Women In Trifles Throughout American Literature women are wrongfully portrayed as worrisome and small minded objects that are in need of a man to think and care for them. Throughout literary works like Susan Glaspell s Trifles and Kate Chopin s The Story Of An Hour women are told to stay in the home and take care of her family. The women are kept in the home, and any life outside of this sphere must first be approved by her husband. In both of these pieces women are suppressed by this notion, and in Trifles this oppressive view causes women to form an inseparable bond, and sparks the creation of a sisterhood. In Kate Chopin s short story you see, a woman who has heart troubles, Louise Mallard die when her husband who is supposedly in a fatal accident returns to their home (Chopin). In this story her life is psychologically torpid, causing her to live an anemic life until her husband s supposed death (Jamil). When breaking the news to Louise, her sister, Josephine, and a family friend, Richards, take great care in breaking the news of the her husband s lethal railroad disaster. This is so her heart troubles cannot cause her to have any problems, like a heart attack happen. Once told the news, Louise begins to mourn her loving husband s death; weeping, she goes to her room and refuses for anyone to follow her (Chopin). This, however, is when she recognizes her new found freedom. Louise s marriage is a form of slavery, where she has to comply with her husband s mandates (Jamil). Even though ... • 4. Examples Of Rebirth In The Road By Cormac Mccarthy The Rebirth of a New Man: A Journey of Hope among the Contradictions Inherent in Human Nature. A man and a child, father and son, are alone against an inclement nature while pushing a cart filled with tools, blankets, and things that they have found along the way to the south. About ten years before the world had been reduced to ashes by an apocalyptic disaster, which it is not known whether it was caused by a natural event or the foolishness of human beings. The world is reduced to a single color, gray, that of the ashes covering all that is left, that of hearts and minds, clouded by the pain of the loss and the terror of solitude. All that is left of the humankind is a few tenacious survivors struggling unceasingly against hunger and cold, and those who have lost any trace of humanity giving free vent to the lowest instincts of oppression and violence. But in the novel The Road, Cormac McCarthy paints a vivid and dramatic picture of the catastrophic consequences of a cataclysm that are nothing more than an excuse to minimize the outer contingencies with the sole purpose to bring up what is really dear to his heart, the relationship between a father and a son. They have been deliberately left unnamed for the whole story to epitomize the archetypes of the man and the child, a hymn to paternity, and to unconditional love. In a world reduced to the essentials, McCarthy aims not merely to explore the complexities of the relationship between the two, which in fact remains ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Pros And Cons Of School Uniforms Should students wear school uniforms? This is a topic that has been thoroughly argued, yet to no prevail on either side. I believe school uniforms overall impact children and the education community negatively. There are many strong reasons to turn down this policy. These include how the uniforms effect the children and their learning, the sneakiness behind school administrations who utilize this system, and how the children feel about the uniforms. First, is how the uniforms affect the children in a negative way. I know a family just a few houses up the street whose kids go to a Catholic school. Religion set aside, they have to wear uniforms to school. Often I see them getting out of the car, ripping off their bows and ties with a sort of disgust. My friend from that family, Aaron, states on the topic, They are uncomfortable, which actually distracts me more from learning and paying attention. This shows how school uniforms affect the learning environment negatively and impact children in a negative way. Everyone has heard the phrase, if you get hurt it s your own fault. But what if you never get the chance to be hurt? You ll never learn. It s the same way with something as simple as clothing. If children wear vulgar clothing to school then you can talk to them and tell them it s wrong. It is bad preparation for the real world if we are telling children what to do, rather than letting them learn to better prepare themselves for the real world. Next, is the sneakiness behind the administration and their altered statistics. Long beach California is a town that incorporates school uniforms into their schooling. The district claims the academic success and low violence rates are due to the school uniforms. They did leave out the other improvements in their districts including, promotion of conflict resolution, peer mediation, and parental involvement. The superintendent of this district made a comment to the Harvard Education Letter stating, It is really hard to know exactly what is causing the positive effect. This shows how districts are hiding other information to promote how well uniforms fix problems when in reality, it could be many things. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) in Southern ... • 6. Carl Lewis Views On Track And Field Carl Lewis said the trials on the road to world harmony are no greater than the courage of those who accept the challenge . Track and field is a sport which includes athletics in running, jumping, and throwing. The Smithsonian Museum has a lot of different artifacts, but it holds a very important track jersey: Carl Lewis . Because of crushing records and maintaining determination, Carl Lewis made an impact on history when he became one of the best track stars. Carl worked hard everyday even through the rough time to have success in track and field. Cost Minimization Analysis Paper Cost minimization analysis is mostly applied in the health sector and is a method used to measure and compare the costs of different medical interventions Springer. Cost minimization analysis is the simplest type of cost analysis. The central focus is that one medical intervention is the same as another, at lower cost. That is the outcomes must be the same. If an institution wishes to substitute and anesthesia drug which cost $100 less than another there are several question that need to be answered prior to changing vendors or manufacturers. The first is quality of the medication. The Food and Drug Administration requires the drug to have the same active ingredients but the the inactive ingredients may not necessary be the same. The issue is the drug may be the absorbed different due to its inactive ingredients.. Some patient may not similarly absorb the medication which may require that greater quantities may be needed to achieve the anesthetic effect that is desired. As the purchaser of the less costly medication, I would ask the manufacturer to supply data, in controlled studies to support that the drug is not only therapeutic from the required active ... • 12. Douglas Hofstadter s Le Ton Beau De Marot While many forms of writing are absolutely difficult to translate, as shown by Douglas Hofstadter s analysis of a French poem by Clément Marot in Le Ton Beau de Marot, song lyrics would arguably require the most effort. In addition to the basic semantic translation required of any text in order to preserve meaning, translated songs would need to maintain a similar rhythm in both a musical and a more syntactic sense as the original in order to convey a similar tone. This task means that many songs could be considered somewhat untranslatable, since in many cases, such prosody could not be perfectly recaptured in a translation. One song that exemplifies this difficulty is Down and Out by the band The Academy Is. The first half of the piece in particular builds a vague narrative, which is told using rhyme schemes, the subversion of common English sayings, and rhythmic repetition of certain phrases for emphasis. For example, the second verse contains the lyrics out of the house, she grabs the keys, runs for the hills and doesn t leave a letter. That way the impact will be much better. The novel is not chronologically sequenced, which leaves more room for the reader to engage in a critical thought process that fully bridges the author s mind to their own. In O Brien s chapter, The Man I Killed , he attempts to humanize the enemy in a way that draws little separation between the enemy and himself by relating the enemy s life prior to the war to his, and illustrates the war through the eyes of the soldiers who fought it. His jaw was in his throat, his upper lip and teeth were gone, his one eye was shut, his other eye was a star shaped hole..., writes O Brien as he studies the deceased enemy (118). Throughout the novel, the author shows consistency with repeating stories and lines in a way to present a greater image. He reminds the reader of details the elaborate his larger view. When he writes of the man he killed, he wants the reader to imagine themselves in his shoes, as he imagined himself in the enemies . As he carefully studies the dead man, he imagines how the boy found himself in the war. By relating American society to the boy s village of My Khe, he bridges similarities connecting the two by a culture that promotes defending one s land and ways of life. By saying, he would have been taught that to defend the land was a man s highest duty and highest privilege, he shows there is minimal difference between how most Americans view the military and the duty of the villagers in My Khe (119). Although he had not known the exact history of the boy, he attempted to illustrate in his own mind what his life may have been like prior to the invasion. Alfred Prufrock, Prufrock invites the reader on a journey with him through his story of love, or love that never was. He speaks to the reader as his love lost and asks her to stick with him on his journey through time, to learn why their love never transpired. He begins by showing her his decisions as a young adult, optimistic and confident in time, to prepare for her. Time goes by, he is now middle aged and insecure of his appearance, now in fear of her rejection and unsure if he has missed his window. Nearing the end of the poem he has grown older still, having wasted all time, knowing now that his love story will never be, he is ready to show his lost love, why. Young Adult Prufrock begins as lite hearted and carefree. He invites his love on a walk at dusk through the sleazy streets of their town. Begging her not to question him just yet of where they are going, Oh do not ask what is it let us go and make our visit. (Eliot) Prufrock is confident in time, comfortable in procrastinating. There will be time, there will be time, to prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet; there will be time to murder and create; and time for all the works and days of hands that lift and drop a question on your plate: time for you and time for me, (Eliot) Looking further into the text here, it leaves the impression that he is stringing the love along, expecting her to wait until he is ready, assuming that she will always be there when he decides ... Because of space travel s popular support, scientists were able to flex their creative muscles with seemingly perpetual funding while being cool doing so. Some techniques to ensure food security include producing and supporting the production of genetically modified foods, implicating the practice of urban farming and aquaculture, better management of wasted foods and educating the general population on food waste. One solution to help feed the global population is implementing the production of genetically modified foods. A genetically modified food is an organism in which the genetic material has been altered in a way that does not occur naturally by mating and/or natural recombination. Genetically modified crops have been produced since 1994 and have many benefits to them compared to regular crops. Many genetically modified crops have been altered so the plant has a stronger resilience to insects, are more tolerable to herbicides, extreme weather conditions and have a longer shelf life. With a longer shelf life, the crops are able to be exported to more remote locations without spoiling, providing food to places that lack the ability to grow their own crops. Since these crops are more resilient to insects, the amount of toxic bacteria that is added to help repel the insects is decreased. Xia textit{et al.} cite{Sig4UDD 113} explore the impact of IS and SS nodes on social based routing protocols under uncertain node cooperation. In particular, a signaling game approach (Sig4UDD) is proposed where Bayesian Nash equilibrium and perfect Bayesian equilibrium are employed to analyze the nodes one stage and multi stage interactions (Fig. ref{Sig4UDDScheme}). Meanwhile, a belief system is established to help the nodes predict the type of their encounters and decide whether to forward a message to them or not. The experimental results demonstrate that nodes in Sig4UDD can effectively establish their beliefs based on their previous interactions that can decrease the transmission cost significantly while improving the data delivery delay. • 28. The Rifle Into The Federal Army With a new century, came new advancements in technology, and weaponry. Muskets used in the American Revolutionary War were outdated and inaccurate when it came to the Civil War. The introduction of the rifle into the Federal Army put the Northern Army leagues ahead of the Southern Army at the battlefield. Because of the highly industrial based economy in the North, the usage of rifled bore firearms became widespread in the Federal Army. Moreover, rifles also saw improvements in loading efficiency, changing the main method of loading to breech loading. Breech loading a rifle, when compared to the archaic method of ramming the bullet down the barrel or muzzle loading, greatly reduced the chance of injury caused by the rifle. In ... With such numerous advantages over the flintlock pistols , the Colt Revolver essentially revolutionized the way weapons were created and their mechanisms. In the current day, most firearms operate with a magazine which holds the bullets that are to be fired from the weapon. Similarly, in the Colt Revolver, there was a cylinder containing the bullets that were to be shot from the Revolver thereby maximizing the efficiency of weapons. In addition to advancements in smaller firearms, the US military also saw improvements in the sector of long range rifles. Muzzle loading muskets from the Revolutionary War were highly inefficient and and extremely dangerous to use. When on the battlefield, trying to load a muzzle loading musket became very complicated. If the soldier loaded a bullet but it got jammed, and they tried to fire, the musket would explode in their face, causing many unnecessary injuries to the soldier force (National Park Service, Evolution of the Breechloader ). With the invention of the breech loader, loading a rifle became exceedingly simple. In a breech loading rifle, the soldier loads a cartridge containing the bullet and the gunpowder into a chamber. They would then proceed to fire the weapon. This method of loading a weapon was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Theories Of Experiential Learning Theory Meanwhile, the Theory of Experiential Learning Cycle by David Kolb (Kolb, 1984) is also relevant to this study. Experiential Learning Theory (ELT) defines learning as the process whereby knowledge is created through the transformation of experience . Knowledge is a product from the combination of both grasping and transforming experience. According to him the Experiential Learning Theory model portrays two dialectically related modes of grasping experience; Concrete Experience and Abstract Conceptualization, and two dialectically relevant modes of transforming experience; Reflective Observation and Active Experimentation. Without these learning would be impossible even at the very beginning. Later on, reflections then can be assimilated in the old experience and deduced it into abstract concepts from which new implications for action are drawn. These new implications are then used for active experimentation, which leads to new concrete experiences (Kolb Kolb, 2005). According to Lawyer and constitutional law activist Syahredzan Johan, there are two categories of citizens in Malaysia. The first, are those who were born in Malaysia after the year 1963 and the latter being known as naturalized citizens. The first categories of people are those who were born in Malaysia, like the most of us and there is no formal procedure required to apply for a Malaysian citizenship. In the case of one of the child s parents are not citizens of Malaysia, but is born in Malaysia, the offspring is still considered to be a Malaysian citizen. Public education is an integral part of human rights system and entire community life; it supports the evolution of individuals, nations and ensures the development of humankind. The chance to be educated is one of the most important subjective rights of individuals. The term invalid is initially defective; we attribute it to these people an inferiority complex in which they begin to believe. Attitude of ordinary people to people with disabilities is different biases and prejudices. For today there are 4755902 children, 150000 out of them belong to children with disability (Today.kz). According to UNICEF the statistical data states that there are 62081 (1.2%) disabled children in Kazakhstan, and each year this number increases. The Himalayas As A Barrier For The World One Better Village to Live for All of Us Some historians believe that the Himalayas acted as a barrier for the last five thousand years, separating civilized development in China from the rest of the world. (China kept much to herself until about two hundred years ago. Then the British, using gunpowder invented by the Chinese, forced the door to China wide open to the West, starting the most humiliating chapter in Chinese history and the interactions with the rest of the world). Developments in China and the West progressed at a similar pace, despite their engaging in little intellectual communications. Great thinkers emerged in both parts of the world about 2500 years ago, paving the way for their respective civilizations to develop culturally and intellectually, albeit taking completely different approaches. Confucius (born 551 BC) is the most influential figure in the Chinese history. His thoughts and those of his followers laid the foundation, the foundation is Confucian ethics described by Fung Yu Lan in A History of Chinese Philosophy. This is fundamentally different from the major civilizations in other parts of the world, where traditional religions have played more dominant roles in the course of development. These points can serve as dividing lines that illuminate shifts in policy and opinion. However, thinking of this history in terms of critical moments or turning points can simplify the complex actors, sentiments and tendencies that create and influence foreign policy. These critical points are not necessarily the sole cause of massive shifts in policy, but often add impetus to pre existing tendencies. Nonetheless, watersheds can help the public digest patterns in foreign policy, playing an important role in how American s perceive their role in the world. According to Brzezinski, America s relationship with the world has been characterized by cycles of extroversion and introversion , or involvement and isolationism. Throughout the nation s history, Americans have witnessed and influenced many shifts or turns in this cycle, caused, exacerbated or illuminated by several critical events. Through this lens, the Spanish American War, Pearl Harbor, the Vietnam War and 9/11 are critical points that added the impetus to shift the cycle of U.S. foreign policy in the other direction. The Spanish American war paved the way for American Imperialism, illuminating a shift towards interventionist policies. • 40. The Issue of Media and Responsible News Coverage October 14, 2013 Introduction The topic I chose to explore more in depth with is the issue of media and the ethics behind responsible news coverage. I wanted to examine the guidelines of media reporting as well as if proper aspects of responsibility, morality, and privacy is taking place when the news instantly reports on different public issues, crimes, and incidents around the country. For example, your child is at school when a gunman invades and openly shoots many other children and teachers in the building. It feels like switch, within minutes of the event even occurring pictures are shown on the TV of a classroom maybe even your own child and her class walking out of the building in fear, that night it s on the front page of the newspaper and you had no idea. Is this acceptable? Are there any rules or say in approving this? For me personally I would be angry in that their was no consent for that my child to be shown in that way after something so terrible happening. I wanted to investigate media coverage and events in relation to ethical guidelines of how scenarios should be handled and if they are, in fact, followed in the ways learned in our from our textbook.
