Giorgio De Chirico s Art
Giorgio De Chirico s art can be viewed one that evolved tremendously over time. However, his
artwork portrayed a number of characteristics and traits that differentiated them from the works of
other artists in his time. This is probably why his art remains a puzzling factor to many from the 20th
Century to date. A wide use themes and concepts can be seen in a number of his works. He has played
a huge role in shaping the surrealist works of art.
As mentioned, Giorgio De Chirico s art differed immensely from those of artists at the time. As a
result of this difference, he appeared to be left out and his work segregated especially by the French
arts men and fellow surrealists. His art was characterized by symbolic objects. His manikins, for
example were spotted without upper body parts or faces. They appeared bizarre. Mostly, his paintings
comprised of natural inspirations. Even if he painted a building, the aspect of nature was seen in the
outcome. Additionally, he used color so as to put emphasis of particular objects. He would use
contrasting colors in his mannequins and would place them in odd sizes and relationships so as to
create juxtaposition. An example of this can be seen in The Disquieting Muses, one of his works of
art.
Enigma is one of his most widely used themes. It can be seen his use of ordinary life objects and
figures. These figures have been used in a context that does not appear ordinarily familiar. They all
appear in a position or element that has been

Arbitration Clause And Limitation Clause
Arbitration Clause, Attorneys clause and Limitation to liability clauses
Arbitration section
An arbitration clause is a section in a contract that requires the parties to decide their differences over
an arbitration process. Though such a clause may or might not agree that arbitration happen inside a
specific authority, it always binds the parties to a type of resolution outside of the courts, and is
therefore considered a kind of forum selection clause.
The federal government in The United States has spoken a rule of support of arbitration clauses,
because they want to reduce the load on court systems to resolve arguments. It is found in the Federal
Arbitration Act, which licenses required and compulsory arbitration for which under the ... Show more

that an employee was held to attorney fee clause but the employer was not.
Limitation to liability
It can be an exclusion clause or a term in a contract that pursues to limit the rights of the parties to the
contract. The Unfair Contract Terms Act 1977 applies to all contracts, but the Unfair Terms in
Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999, unlike the common law rules, do distinguish among the
contracts in regard to businesses and contracts between business and consumers so that the laws

Labeling Genetically Modified Organisms And Food Markets
GMO s stands for genetically modified organism, which are organisms that have had their genes
altered or genetically engineered so that it can have resistance to pesticides and have rapid growth .
Food markets around the United States sell products that are organic as well as genetically modified
products but, as a society, we are not fully aware of that. Through reading the The Secret Life of
Plants by Ferris Jabr, it lead us to think about how we are not aware of what produce we buy in our
local food markets. We as a society in this democracy should have the knowledge of what we put into
our body. Labeling Genetically Modified Organisms in food markets allows the consumers to know
what they are eating and help them make the decision to buy the produce or not. GMOs have been
around for quite some time. Farmers have been cross breeding and modifying their crops for
thousands and thousands of years. GMOs were originally made to create the best crops for farmers to
farm and distribute. Elton Robinson, a editor for Delta Farm Press says that Genetically engineered or
GMO crops are safe, reduced in chemical use and contribute to the long term profitability of farmers
all over the world (Robinson). Through these words he conveys that GMOs are vital. A world without
genetically engineered crops would be horrible, food costs would soar, yields would go down, input
costs would rise and many farmers would have to resort to less environmentally friendly methods of
controlling

How Baz Luhrmann s Interpretation of the Prologue Engages the Audience s Attention and Makes
them Want to Watch the Rest of the Film How is it that after watching the opening sequence to Baz
Luhrmann s Romeo and Juliet film (properly titled William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet) about
twenty times, the exhilarating thrill I experience from it still has not faded out? To grab the attention
of the viewers and keep their eyes glued to the screen as the movie starts, the director uses a variety of
special techniques, also to make it clear to the audience that this film is a far cry from the original
dullness associated with Shakespeare play recreations. Firstly, the range of music; the booming ...

This is the thought which Baz Luhrmann wants to put into the audiences mind for their first
impression of not so fair Verona; so after the news report is told, the camera whizzes into the screen
behind the news reader which displays a blown up petrol station, burning away as chaos fills the air.
The serenade of blasting classic opera music, which is played while the images of the shocking city
are presented, makes the seriousness and dramatic quality. The rapid montage of imagery adds to the
rush of adrenaline that is felt when you watch this scene. A police helicopter is shown hovering
unsteadily in the air. Moreover, as if it is being shot from the helicopter, bird s eye view shots are
taken with speed shots many long shots zooming into close ups as the panoramic view of the city is
previewed. It is as if Verona is being shaken by the crime when the noisy helicopter makes the camera
focus shaky. The fast editing which shows us police cars, people being chased and people being
injured makes the upbeat anxiety more effective. Another aspect of the opening, which I found
effective, is the voice over. Made to seem God like, it echoes the story in brief, in a somewhat worried
and disappointed tone of voice. Luhrmann indicates the ongoing vendetta by showing the close up
pictures of the families on Newspaper with flames flickering in front of the headlines,

Feminist Movements By Dorothy Sue Cobble, Linda Gordon,...
Feminist movements have transcended generations while evolving as women s role within and
perspective of society change. These movements ranged from women wanting to simply being viewed
as equal to men in the eyes of employers to women who wanted to completely disassociate themselves
from men. On top of covering a wide range of desires they crossed generational lines as well as race,
class, professional, and ethnic lines. Some of these movements were integrated while others were
exclusively for one group of women. There is no clear cut event or day when women began pushing
for equality but it began around the beginning of the 20th century when women pushed for the right to
vote which culminated with Congress passing the Nineteenth Amendment in 1919 giving women the
right to vote. Feminism Unfinished by Dorothy Sue Cobble, Linda Gordon, and Astrid Henry picks up
the history of feminist movements following the creation of the Nineteenth Amendment. The book
highlights many of the different movements that have occurred from the 1920s until present day, it
was published in 2014 so it discusses some of the latest movements. The authors use the term
feminisms as opposed to feminism since they want to emphasize the fact that there were, are, and will
continue to be many different approaches to improve the quality of life for women in the United
States. Despite the fact that there were many different approaches to solving the issues or improving
their situation it is all

Sustainability And Discredit Arguments For Space Exploration
I am writing this paper to claim that space exploration is a huge waste of resources and we should
focus our efforts on the sustainability of the Earth. I plan to explore the benefits of sustainability and
discredit arguments for space exploration. Sustainability is the more realistic and feasible choice. A
very popular argument for space exploration is to protect our Earth that we have managed to almost
destroy, by finding another planet to retreat to. Many people believe the only option is to spend
billions of dollars, that we do not necessarily have, into space exploration. It is said that there are
Earth like planets that would potentially be able to support life. People believe space exploration is
necessary for long term survival. It is a popular concept that something drastic will happen to Earth,
weather it be caused by man or natural disaster. Basic facts state that if we continue treating Earth the
way we do, Earth will not be able to support human life and will be rendered uninhabitable. With the
information that I and billions of other believe to be legitimate many people jump to space exploration
as the only answer. A popular concept is terraforming. Terraforming is the process of transforming a
hostile environment into one suitable for human life. Being that Mars is the most Earth like planet in
our solar system, it is the best candidate for terraforming. It is believed that terraforming any planet
would take centuries for just the initial steps, and much

Great Expectations Social Commentary Essay
Title That s just what happens when you re rich and you don t have a job, you get crazy. This line,
spoken by Zoey Murphy in Dear Evan Hansen, could not have fit the ideas stated in Great
Expectations any better. One of the major ideas conveyed consistently throughout Great Expectations
is of never being satisfied, and the constant desire for wealth and fame. Also indirectly relayed
through the novel very often is Charles Dicken s social commentary. He looks down upon the desire
for wealth and fame, and this is disguised through his descriptions of the middle class s goal of
becoming high class, and high class mannerisms. This can also be connected to the 21st century. One
of Dicken s main points on social commentary has to do with the ... Show more content on

One great example of this is the way Mrs. Pocket handles her baby. Usually the nurses or her other
daughter Jane take care of the baby, so when Mrs. Pocket takes care of the baby, it is humorous to the
reader. When society first sees her handle the baby, Mrs. Pocket took it the other way, and got its head
upon the table; which was announced to all resent by a prodigious concussion (Dickens 179). It is
clear that Mrs. Pocket doesn t know how to care for her baby, and while laughable, this is also a very
sad situation. It was her baby that she gave birth to, and she doesn t even know how to hold it!
Dickens is clearly making fun of the higher class and how heavily they rely on hired help to take care
of their children. This is seen again later in the chapter. At this point, she is helpless in her attempts of
taking care of the baby. Dickens writes, Into Mrs. Pocket s lap, and gave it the nutcrackers to play
with...forgetting all about the baby on her lap: who did most appalling things with the nutcrackers
(Dickens 179 180). This is an obvious lack of parental nurturing in the Pocket home, and this is an
effect of their wealth and heavy reliance on servants. Dickens makes another point against the upper
class when he shows Pip s lack of control after receiving his sum. Dickens writes, We spent as much
money as we could, and got as little for it as people could make up their minds to give us (Dickens
256). Pip is clearly in panic when he receives such a large sum of money. Due to this, he loses control
and does what he has always wished to do: spend it all! He doesn t know anything else. As an effect of
receiving so much money, Pip spends it impulsively on silly things, such as the gentlemen s society. In
summary, Dickens poked fun at the upper class s mannerisms throughout the entire

Rhetorical Analysis Of Miss Representation
Rhetorical Analysis of Miss Representation
Jennifer Siebel Newsom s documentary, Miss Representation, shows that the media s impact on the
American discourse of women s bodies, women in power, and the same standards of what women
should be. Newsom effectively convinces the audience of Miss Representation that how mainstream
media contributes to the misrepresentation of women in influential positions by having limited
portrayals of women through the use of interviews from influential people, several statistics, and
appealing to emotional sense. Newsom clearly explains how the media portrays gender bias and
stereotypes in TV, films, and advertisements through the use of interviews from influential people.

The Problem Of Immigration And Immigration
This paper will examine the problem of Immigration and Immigration Law. I will first discuss what
Immigration Law is and how it works, then I will define the number one problem of immigration laws,
illegal immigration and why it s so important to follow procedures. It will also address the
consequences after violating the laws. Next the paper discusses three policy solutions to the problems
of illegal immigration: Legalization of Immigrants, Strengthen Border Security, and Immigration
Amnesty. The paper will first explain each policy solution. Then it will analyze the pros and cons, and
potential strengths and weakness of each solution. Last this paper will offer some personal
observations on the problem of immigration.
Three government policy solutions to the problem of illegal immigration include the Legalization of
Illegal Immigrants, the Secure Fence Act of 2006, and Amnesty. If these three government policies
were truly implemented it will help to solve and cut back in illegal immigration activity in the United
States.
Section II
Immigration law refers to the rules established by the federal government for determining who is
allowed to enter the country, and for how long. It also governs the naturalization process for those who
desire to become United States citizens. Finally, when foreign nationals enter without permission,
overstay their visit, or otherwise lose their legal status, they become illegal immigrants, immigration
law controls how detention and removal

The Ones Who Walk Away From The Omelas By Ursula Le Guin
A dream of ignorance The short story The ones who walk away from the Omelas by Ursula Le Guin
does a great job of criticizing the flaws of a capitalist society. What this means is that she talks about
how it has become a standard for someone to become happy at the expense of others. In order to
demonstrate this she presents a society that guarantees eternal happiness at the expense of a single
child who must suffer through it all. The characters are faced with two choices which would be to stay
and accept the child s fate or to walk away and leave for the mountains. Both of these choices do not
involve helping the child but rather abandoning it in both circumstances. This is a criticism of how
people in reality typically treat those who are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Le Guin s exploitation of this in her writing gives us a clear indication of her intended audience. This
once again justifies my theory as to why Omelas is based off of a dream she once had. What the dream
did was remind of her that there are people out there suffering and being completely ignored. The fact
that she contributed towards the continuation of such suffering ultimately inspired her to push for
change in public awareness. An important method that Le Guin uses is to maintain respect by not
acting angry to the general public. If she was calling out individuals disrespectfully then she herself
would be subject to criticism as well. This is why she turns to writing due to past difficulties with
public activism. While she did help influence a few people to help spread the word, she gained more
public criticism as people found her too demanding(jstor.org). Therefore she switched to becoming an
activist through writing literature. Switching through this method has helped gain widespread respect
while further popularizing her cause. An interesting fact about this short and the poverty rate in the
Unites States there seems to be a positive correlation in terms of reducing it. The story was written in
the year 1973 and the poverty rate has reduced by a seven percent(the nation.org). While there is
shown improvements from back then, these

The Paradigm Shift in Consumption
The Paradigm Shift in Consumption: The New Food Equation Consumer behaviors are constantly
changing, as can be seen with the recent trends of obesity in the global north and hunger and
malnutrition in the global south. Understanding global food systems is very important as it helps
explain opportunities and well as problems that exist in the current global food system. In 1950 s and
60 s an industrial food formula, was created in order to take strides towards delivering ample,
affordable, healthy and safe food in the global North (Roberts, 2013). This Industrial formula has not
lived up to its standards however and has caused some disappointment. As new generations emerge, so
do aspirations that food should taste real, provide fulfilling careers, support health, contribute to local
communities, honor the environment and enhance global sustainability (Roberts, 2013: 11). This new
trend has been termed the New Food Equation by Kevin Morgan and is a way to present the food
problem as a challenge and urge people to solve the problem by making good food choices (Rogers,
2013). They are multiple pillars to implementing this new food movement, but food sovereignty and
organic foods are the area of focus today. Members of La Via Campania coined the term food
sovereignty. This was an organization formed in 1992 that represents some 200 million peasants, small
farmers, agricultural workers and indigenous people from seventy different countries (Rogers, 2013:
88). They

Development Of Innovative Educational Methodologies
According to Hall (2005, pp188), Insight into the educational, systemic and personal factors, which
contribute to the culture of professions, can help guide the development of innovative educational
methodologies to improve inter professional collaborative practice. IPE is integral in a healthcare
environment, and serves to allow individuals within the healthcare profession to gain an appreciation
for differing roles. Using the Kolb s Learning Cycle (1984), I will chronologically reflect upon my
experiences of IPE, considering concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualisation
and active experimentation. After having exchanged pleasantries, individuals seemed coy and as
theorised by Tuckman (1965), it was inherent that our team was in the forming stage of development
within a small group. Polite and perfunctory conversation took place, which made it difficult to
progress with the task in hand. Having worked as a member of teams in the past, it was pertinent to
use what little time we had wisely and I felt it necessary to adopt the role of a team leader, akin to that
theorised by the Hersey Blanchard Situational Leadership® model. Here, I styled my leadership in the
manner of selling the task providing information and direction which, accompanied by communication
from individuals in the team, would lead to the sale of the task and potential delegation of
responsibilities and progression with it. However, there were barriers to progress in that; upon

Summary Of The Story Of Thorstein The Staff-Struck
The story of Thorstein The Staff Struck is very short, but nevertheless, shares many traits and
characteristics of longer sagas. This story shows the characteristic features of traditional family sagas
and although action and violence are present, the narrator s main interests seem to lie in in the
personality and expression of the characters in the story. The events told in this story seem to be
deliberately told in a way to showcase the different characteristics, personalities, and choices of the
main characters as well as highlights their position in this social dilemma. . The conflicts the
characters encounter involve upholding respect from the community while preserving one s own
dignity. Every character in Thorstein creates his or her own argument, each believing that he/she is
just because they are basing their views off the accepted standards of society. This fun little tale tells
the story of an old Viking s son named Thorstein who gets into some trouble with Bjorni, the
community chieftain and wealthiest and most powerful farmer in the district, after he kills three of his
farmhands. The contentious relationship between Thorstein and Thord was not abnormal, as both men
were often in competition with one another through their horse businesses. Their respective
personalities, however, could not be further apart. Thord was one of Bjorni s servants, and was known
as an arrogant man, who constantly bragged about his prestigious position (as a servant). On the other

Equal Employment Opportunity And Employee Rights
Equal Employment Opportunity and Employee Rights Review Many laws have been put into place to
protect employees and employers. The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and the Equal
Employment Opportunity Act of 1972 (EEOA) are two such acts. These laws protect workers from
termination for causes outlined in the acts. Drug testing has become popular for many businesses in
today s society. It upsets many employees because they think that what they do in their own time does
not affect what they do at work. Summary ADA prohibits discrimination against those with disabilities
(DeCenzo, Robbins, Verhulst, 2013). Part of their definition of someone with a disability is one who
has a physical or mental impairment that limits one or more major life activity (DeCenzo, Robbins,
Verhulst, 2013). To be protected a person with a disability must be capable of performing the essential
functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations (DeCenzo, Robbins, Verhulst, 2013).
The qualified person must meet the necessary requirements for the position (DeCenzo, Robbins,
Verhulst, 2013). For example, an employee for Pizza Hut must have a food handler s card. Essential
job functions need to be specific in the job descriptions (DeCenzo, Robbins, Verhulst, 2013).
Reasonable accommodations include activities or modifications to the work environment that allow
the qualified person to perform the work (DeCenzo, Robbins, Verhulst, 2013). For example, the
installation of

Throughout Nonmoral Nature , Gould explains that we need to look at nature without personifying it
or putting human values on it. He believes that those who approach a scientific situation with a pre
established view in mind are preventing the kind of objectivity and fairness that scientific examination
is supposed to produce. Gould explains that the existence of what seems to be evil in nature creates an
argument between scientists and creationists. Many phenomena that occur in nature seem to be wrong
or disturbing, and go against the idea that God creates everything and that everything is benevolent.

Isolation In Beechdel s Fun Home
Fun Home follows the story of Alison as she deals with a dysfunctional family and learns about
herself and her sexuality in the process. In addition to this, another major focus within Fun Home is

There are several times within the work that Alison draws maps in order to show the audience the
physical locations of where the events portrayed took place. But beyond this, the maps serve to both
demonstrate her father Bruce s feelings of isolation and how he was perceived by the community he

The Revolution of 1688
The Glorious Revolution, also known as the Revolution of 1688, refers to the events of 1688 1689.
These events eventually led to the overthrow of Catholic King James II and the ascension (of William
III and Mary II) to the English throne. These events also produced a significant shift in the
relationship between the monarchy and parliament. This paper will discuss the overthrow of King
James II, the rebellion and revolt and the consequences as well as the global effects of the Revolution
in order to explain the importance of this event in world history. James II, king of England from 1685
1688, inherited a very strong position when he came to power. When James II first came to the throne,
he was not very well liked in the eyes of the people of Great Britain, simply because he was a Roman
Catholic King to an overwhelmingly Protestant nation. Like most politicians, James made promises to
protect the peoples personal beliefs. At the beginning of his reign, James had promised to respect his
subject s rights and liberties and protect the Protestant establishment in the church. Despite these
promises, James decided to advance the Catholic tenets over the protestants. He did this by issuing
dispensations to Catholics including the Test Act of 1673, promoting the public celebration of mass,
forcing the universities to admit Catholics, issued a Declaration of Indulgences and also engaged a
campaign to pack Parliament so that he would be able to establish Catholic tolerance by

Native American Supernatural Elements
Native Americans do not explain their supernatural elements the same way other cultures do. Most
other cultures try to talk about gods, or ghosts, or supernatural elements. Native Americans use nature
and spirits to explain the supernatural elements. Native American myths instead rely on nature and
spirits to tell the story, which reflects on their culture s belief system. The Native Americans have
many myths and folktales, and most of them share many common themes and archetypes with other
cultures, myths ,and legends. Almost every Native American myth or piece of folklore revolves
around nature and its power; while spirits are used mainly to explain the unexplainable parts. This

what the Native Americans hold dear. They do not focus on royalty, or how rich you are, but instead

Technology Is Not A Distraction
Technology is not a distraction, it is a benefit. Technology is one of the most controversial and
innovative subjects in recent history. It has been said that technology will preserve the human race,
and we will survive longer in the future due to technology breakthroughs. However, many claim that
technology is destroying our minds and causing us to remain distracted throughout daily life activities.
Recently, teachers and professors have struggled with their students with being distracted by current
technological devices during lectures. Teachers should use technology in the classroom because it
improves student s achievements, keeps student s involved, and promotes higher thinking. For
example, US News journalist Ryan Lytle wrote an article stating an Advanced Placement Calculus
teacher named Stacey Roshan, an instructor at Bullis; a private school for students in grades three
through twelve in Potomac, Maryland. According to Lytle, the students in her class faced the problem
of trying to keep her engaged as she walked them through the difficult mathematics curriculum.
During her previous three years at the school, Roshan notes, students were routinely stupefied by the
traditional classroom lecture and often left class with more questions than answers (Lytle). They
wanted so much more time in the classroom to work on problems, Roshan Says. Ms. Roshan decided
to act on her own initiative and take her students lack of answers from her lectures into her own hands.

(Dyer et al. 1998). Based on these premises, IT based value co creation research seeks to understand
and explain how IT can help organizations shape and manage relationship inter dependencies and
associated exchanges (e.g., information flows) to yield mutual benefits. As such, Kohli et al. (2008, p.
28) suggest co creation represents the idea that (a) IT value is increasingly being created and realized
through actions of multiple parties, (b) value emanates from robust collaborative relationships among
firms, and (c) structures and incentives for parties to partake in and equitably share emergent value are
necessary to sustain co creation.
Using IT enabled organizational relationships as the unit of analysis, recent studies have empirically
examined how such relationships can yield mutual benefits, especially in the business to business
(B2B) context. Examples include IT based value co creation in supply chain relationships (Cederlund
et al. 2007; Klein et al. 2009; Rai et al. 2012), between platform producers and developers

Cannibalism, The Act Of Ingestion Of Human Flesh By Humans
Cannibalism, or anthropophagy, is the act of ingestion of human flesh by humans. the idea of people
eating other parts of other people is something that wherever and whenever humans have conformed
to their environment and had formed societies. Cannibalism isn t fake, you may see it in books, on
television shows and movies but the fact is that you can see this concept or this way of life throughout
history. The concept of cannibalism, its ethical encumbrances, and its cultural expression in history
and myth are unquestionably universal. To be human is to think about the possibility of cannibalism.
Anthropophagy is hard wired into the architecture of human imagination. This human imagination is
usually conceptualized through common folklore and common stories and the cannibalistic image is
expressed by Cannibal giants, ogres, bogies, and goblins. The idea of cannibalism may strike people
as something that would rarely happen and you don t see it today but the truth is that this barbaric
ideology was rampant throughout the world through many eras of history. It could state in your history
textbook that You can see cannibalism in societies in tribes and in many other places of the world in
the past but you can even see it today, but there is a very small amount of places throughout the world
you can see this unruly act.
Cannibalism isn t just eating ones flesh out of having sustenance but throughout history you can see
cannibalistic acts could have certain motifs and different

Satire On Running
I run. Out of emotion, almost every one you can think of. Love, anger, joy, frustration, excitement, and
so much more. Most people who are not runners, ramble questions along the lines of How do you
enjoy that? , Why is that fun to you , and What s the point? . Running brings me peace, it s a time to
think, a time to pray, and a time to get to know myself better. Yes, completely exhausting myself is the
most relaxing, refreshing part of my day. I run. Between 5 and 8 miles a day, and most of the time my
best runs are on the days where I really didn t really want to get off the couch, but I did anyways.
Running is a battle, in my brain, my legs, my lungs, and my heart. Running is nothing more than a
series of arguments between the part of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You have to block that out, listen to the whisper that says I CAN . That s when you push harder, defeat
the doubt, and let hope arise. That my friend, is when you surprise yourself. Sure, crossing the finish
line after 6.2 miles is a joyful moment, but my favorite part is the process. The sweat, heavy breathing,
calf cramping, gut wrenching weak moments. Those are my favorite, because I always get through
them. It is said that strength grows in the moments when you think you can t, but you do it anyways. I
believe this wholeheartedly, because i can feel that strength grow in each step after that thought of
doubt. Every run is a blessing, and I will run until i can no longer do so. I am proud of every run, even
if i don t place in that race, or if i cut my daily run short because of a muscle pull. In every run i grow.
I grow as a person, my faith grows, my mind grows, and my spirit grows a little more with each step.

William Damon The Death Of Honesty Summary
The essay The Death of Honesty by William Damon explores how honesty is becoming unexpected
and infrequently used in society today. Written in a general style without difficult or complicated
words it is obvious the author intends for his point to be easily understood by his readers. Using a
convincing argument, the virtue of honesty is approached in an objective manner. Published by the
Hoover Institute, Damon s topic of honesty fits well into this publication because the institute fosters
development of freedom. Accordingly Damon s paper outlines the virtue of honesty as necessary for
civilized and democratic society.
By placing his counter argument at the beginning of the essay, he craftily refutes the argument and
provides his views. Using an inductive thesis at the end of his essay works well to explain Damon s
position as he appears to maintain a diplomatic view. The cause and effect rationale is convincing.
Words such as dishonesty, lying, and cheating are used interchangeably, while Damon writes about
dishonesty more than he writes on honesty. Using emotions and ethical dilemmas he details
justifications for lying. Descriptive words are used to highlight his opinion of honesty. Damon defines
honesty as a virtue while giving blame to those he feels responsible for its decline.
Three topic paragraphs, one sentence long are scattered throughout the essay providing transition from
introduction, to summarizing, and closing parts of his paper. They serve to give emphasis to the main
points, first, teaching honesty, second, how this teaching is failing, and thirdly, how civilization
requires honesty. Overall the sentences are sometimes complex providing variety, and allowing flow
that keeps the reading from becoming monotonous. Paragraph lengths are short, consisting of the one
sentence paragraphs to relatively few sentences, often just four, that appear undeveloped, but the
complexity of the sentences allow the thoughts that are expressed to be complete.
While explaining that lying helps in less than ideal situations, Damon details how untruths can
reassure provide compassion, [and] diplomacy . Giving examples of where dishonesty has been not
only the ethical choice but an honorable

The Field Of Sport Management
Comparatively, the field of sport management is a rather new academic discipline (Chalip, 2006),
which has faced some challenges in terms of justifying its prominence in the academic world.
Nonetheless, Chalip (2006) believes it was an unavoidable course for the evolution of sport
management. Mullin (1980) defined the sport manager as follows:
A person whose job entails planning, organising, staffing, directing and controlling to be performed
within the context of an organisation whose primary product or service is sport, or sport related (p3).
The term management has been defined in many different ways through research as it continues to
evolve across various industries. Although, Donnelly, Gibson and Ivancevich (1992) described it as ...

As a result, the professional and elite levels have also grown substantially these last three or four
decades (Vanderzwaag, 1998). Areas such as recreational sporting programs, corporate sponsored
events, sporting news media and sporting goods have been established within the professional realm
of sport as well. It is evident that as the sport industry grew and evolved, it progressively took on the
business attributes of other industries (Masteralexis, Barr Hums, 2014).
Despite similar business industry characteristics, the sport industry has a unique management,
business and legal practice, unique to all other industries. Furthermore, what makes this industry so
unique is the organisational structures that are in place in order to manage, govern and organise sport.
Masteralexis et. al (2014) identified three main management structures of sport; clubs, leagues and
tournaments which are used to manage and organise sport. These management systems encompass a
range of amateur and professional organisations that may apply variations to these structures for the
purpose of producing a sporting event.
For instance, American college sports such as basketball, baseball, track and field, are structured under
the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as an amateur governing body, but are televised
across the United States and structured

Modest Mussorgsky
During the first half of the 19th century, opera was in it s golden age. Composers sought to capture
drama, emotion, and personalities, creating a closer connection with their audience. With this, they
also began to reflect on the concerns of a broad audience; love and loyalty to family and/or nation,
women s desire for independence, struggle for freedom, fear of evil. This want to appeal to the
population sparked the theme of national identity, which came to be known as Nationalism. The
French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars helped spread the concept of a nation as a group of citizens
with a common heritage, rather than as subjects of a ruler. Influence of this idea grew throughout the
19th century. Nationalism unified the people through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Immigrants from Europe, Latin America, Asia, and former African American slaves and their
descendants, brought their own musical traditions from folk to classical. Ethnic divisions were the
distinctions between classical, popular, and folk music. These three categories represented different
attitudes toward notation, composition, and performance. Classical tradition centered on the composer
and the work, and required intricate notation of the score. Popular music was written down and sold as
a commodity, but centered on the performer and the performance, allowing for leeway in the notated
music. Folk music was independent of musical notation, being passed on through oral tradition.
Overall, these three categories often overlapped. Folk tunes were written down and sold as popular
music, arranged for concert performance, or incorporated into classical pieces; classical works were
transcribed and altered for performance in popular venues; and some popular songs became so well
known that they were then passed down orally, like folk

Fight Club Consumerism
David Fincher s film, Fight Club (1999), puts the internal struggles for meaning that heterosexual
white men experience within today s society into motion. Charles Guignon examines the film s violent
and sexual factors as well as how they pose a meaningful appeal to violence, primarily, in the young
men of our society. Moreover, the film stirs up a fascination with violence that many of us may feel,
an attraction to inflicting pain and experiencing pain ourselves (35). Through concepts of absent
fathers, consumerism and an aimless being, Fight Club platforms a provocative view on how men in
modern society have lost their identity through emasculation and the extremely disturbing activities
they combat in order to find it again. Fight Club asserts the path to finding one s meaning is not simple
and, in turn, develops into a despairing and inconclusive struggle. The excessive consumerism in the
film signifies a sign of emotional emptiness. The film provides the viewer extensive knowledge on
contemporary American society by raising important questions about the embraced values in that
society. With the struggle for finding meaning and the prevalent masculine identity crisis manifested
in Fight Club, why do some men s daily lives fail to satisfy them in contemporary society? And
correspondingly, how is the main character, Edward Norton, truly nameless?
In Fight Club, Ed Norton s character, let his name be the Narrator. In the very beginning of the film,

comes to social marketing look no other than Whole Foods we ve been initiating in giving our target
audience what they want. For our products, we try to make it eco friendly as possible. We try to
eliminate harmful ingredients in our cleaning products. It can leverage their tactics by putting

American Victory Dbq
The american victory was a very long hard battle that the americans won with skill and fighting hard.
The american victory was because of a variety of reasons. They were hard fighters and wanted
freedom, they knew the most of their geography, they got aid from france and spain who provided
them troops and an army and they received the best training from french generals and george
washington. In this essay i will show you how they used geographic information and the aid from
spain and the french to win their freedom from britain as well as their courageous patriotic fighting
spirit Topic from yellow One reason why they won the war was because they had knowledge about the
geography of the colonies and they could use hills and other geographic features that the british didn t
know about to ambush them. The british were not trained to fight in the colonial terrain which was
very different from british terrain and they had no idea where to hide and it was a disadvantage. In the

William the Holy Conqueror
Even though William the Conqueror descended from a line of Vikings who had lived in France for
over 200 years, William had more of an impact on the English language than the majority of
influential English born people of the time. The French speaking Normans brought a whole new
vocabulary to England, whose language was closely related to German. (Barlow 8). He even
introduced the Norman legacy of building castles, including the Tower of London. Although he is
most well known for the Norman invasion of 1066 that overthrew the Anglo Saxon reign which had
lasted for over six centuries, William was a very religious man. He was moral and righteous by the
standards of the time, and devoted much of his time to the Norman church. William was born in 1028
and was the only son of Duke Robert I of Normandy who later died on a voyage to Jerusalem. After
his father s death in 1035, he was knighted at the age of fifteen and the Norman magnates accepted
William as duke even though he was an illegitimate child; he was actually known as William the
Bastard. This caused William serious problems later in life and he had to overcome several massive
obstacles one of which was surviving numerous rebellions; which his mother somehow got him
through. William relied heavily on King Henry I of France for protection. He faced substantial
difficulty maintaining control over Normandy but by his early twenties he emerged a powerful leader.
William then gathered an army to protect his estate. He

The Pert Studebaker Case Essay
The Pert Studebaker. Case Study
Case Background
From 1916 to 1966, Studebaker automobiles were manufactured in South Bend Indiana. Vicky
Roberts became owner of Roberts s Auto Sales and Service (RASAS) when she inherited a Studebaker
dealership. RASAS is a diversified business that includes three sales and service car dealerships, two
auto parts stores, a large body shop, a car painting business and an auto salvage yard. Ms. Roberts is
considering expanding the business to include vintage car restoration. She has just acquired a 1963
Avanti Studebaker. She would like to restore the car to mint condition and use the car as advertising
for the new business in an upcoming Studebaker meet. The meet is in 45 days. Roberts has a total ...

The business of restoration would be on a project basis. RASAS would initiate the process of
restoration only on request. The proposed car restorations can be divided into three categories. Basic
restorations involve getting the car up and running while a mint condition restoration transforms the
car to its original form. A customized restoration includes anything that goes beyond the original form.
RASAS envisions working with customers to achieve any kind of restoration they choose. RASAS
will also work with customers to provide or acquire parts needed for do it yourself restorations.
(Ritzman et al, 2007).
As RASAS is required to procure parts for restoration, these parts could be ordered in bulk, stocked up
and used to sell to customers who only require parts. A benefit of holding inventory is that it could
help reduce time for procurement of parts. However, this aspect has to be checked in terms of the
amount of inventory RASAS is capable of holding.
The cost and time factor analysis would purely depend on the nature of the project. It could vary from
just a basic restoration to mint condition restoration.
(Question 2)
RASAS s parts manager, body shop manager, and chief mechanic have provided estimates of the time
and cost associated with the activities required for the mint condition restoration of the Avanti. Figures
1 and 2 (Appendix) summarize the activities, time estimates and precedent relationships.

Hamlet and The Spanish Tragedy
The parallels shown between Hamlet and The Spanish Tragedy demonstrate the influence Kyd s play
had on Shakespeare. The similarities can be seen throughout the plot lines and context of both plays.
While using the plays as different tools, both are used for expediting revenge. Shakespeare, through
the impact of Kyd s play, established and perfected an ideal plot for a play expressing revengeful
tragedy. The actions and thoughts that Hamlet shows greatly displays many characteristics from The
Spanish Tragedy. Hamlet models himself after Hieronimo in the way he approaches revenge.
However, Hamlet wants his victims to suffer not only on earth but in the afterlife. Kyd and
Shakespeare utilize both meta theaters to exact revenge and reveal guilt. The intention of a play within
a play by Kyd is used for the format of Hieronimo s death. It varies from that of Hamlet in layout and
context. Hamlet plans precisely how he will avenge his father s death and when he will strike. Hamlet
exclaims, When he is...about some act/ That has no relish of salvation in t / Then trip him...And that
his soul may be damned and black/ As hell (Shakespeare III.iv.94 100). Killing Claudius in a sinful
state will satisfy him, his father, and affect him by suffering in the afterlife as well. Hieronimo also
plots his revenge, but is solely concerned with achieve earthly revenge. The Spanish Tragedy includes
a play that is longer in duration than that of Hamlet. Kyd does this to allow the audience to

theory that suggests defeating a terror group with force, and using economic incentives to turn the
populace against them, thus removing their base of support. Theoretical Approach Whether or not
states should utilize force to go against terrorists that are based in another country is huge discussion.

Disability In Still Alice
Independent film can be examined by 5 terms: the relation in its work process, it means of production,
the financing of its film, its conception of quality films and its system of consumption (Bordwell,
Staiger and Thompson, 1985, p.317). The second film that will argue the representation of a minority
group is the independent drama film, Still Alice (2014) directed by Richard Glazer with his partner
Wash Westmoreland. Still Alice worked on a smaller budget in comparison to MBY totalling up to
only $5 million which was attached to small independent production company, Killer Films which is

  • 2. Giorgio De Chirico s Art Giorgio De Chirico s art can be viewed one that evolved tremendously over time. However, his artwork portrayed a number of characteristics and traits that differentiated them from the works of other artists in his time. This is probably why his art remains a puzzling factor to many from the 20th Century to date. A wide use themes and concepts can be seen in a number of his works. He has played a huge role in shaping the surrealist works of art. As mentioned, Giorgio De Chirico s art differed immensely from those of artists at the time. As a result of this difference, he appeared to be left out and his work segregated especially by the French arts men and fellow surrealists. His art was characterized by symbolic objects. His manikins, for example were spotted without upper body parts or faces. They appeared bizarre. Mostly, his paintings comprised of natural inspirations. Even if he painted a building, the aspect of nature was seen in the outcome. Additionally, he used color so as to put emphasis of particular objects. He would use contrasting colors in his mannequins and would place them in odd sizes and relationships so as to create juxtaposition. An example of this can be seen in The Disquieting Muses, one of his works of art. Enigma is one of his most widely used themes. It can be seen his use of ordinary life objects and figures. These figures have been used in a context that does not appear ordinarily familiar. They all appear in a position or element that has been ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Arbitration Clause And Limitation Clause Arbitration Clause, Attorneys clause and Limitation to liability clauses Arbitration section An arbitration clause is a section in a contract that requires the parties to decide their differences over an arbitration process. Though such a clause may or might not agree that arbitration happen inside a specific authority, it always binds the parties to a type of resolution outside of the courts, and is therefore considered a kind of forum selection clause. The federal government in The United States has spoken a rule of support of arbitration clauses, because they want to reduce the load on court systems to resolve arguments. • 4. Labeling Genetically Modified Organisms And Food Markets GMO s stands for genetically modified organism, which are organisms that have had their genes altered or genetically engineered so that it can have resistance to pesticides and have rapid growth . Food markets around the United States sell products that are organic as well as genetically modified products but, as a society, we are not fully aware of that. Through reading the The Secret Life of Plants by Ferris Jabr, it lead us to think about how we are not aware of what produce we buy in our local food markets. We as a society in this democracy should have the knowledge of what we put into our body. Labeling Genetically Modified Organisms in food markets allows the consumers to know what they are eating and help them make the decision to buy the produce or not. GMOs have been around for quite some time. Farmers have been cross breeding and modifying their crops for thousands and thousands of years. GMOs were originally made to create the best crops for farmers to farm and distribute. Elton Robinson, a editor for Delta Farm Press says that Genetically engineered or GMO crops are safe, reduced in chemical use and contribute to the long term profitability of farmers all over the world (Robinson). Through these words he conveys that GMOs are vital. A world without genetically engineered crops would be horrible, food costs would soar, yields would go down, input costs would rise and many farmers would have to resort to less environmentally friendly methods of controlling ... • 5. How Baz Luhrmann s Interpretation of the Prologue Engages... How Baz Luhrmann s Interpretation of the Prologue Engages the Audience s Attention and Makes them Want to Watch the Rest of the Film How is it that after watching the opening sequence to Baz Luhrmann s Romeo and Juliet film (properly titled William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet) about twenty times, the exhilarating thrill I experience from it still has not faded out? To grab the attention of the viewers and keep their eyes glued to the screen as the movie starts, the director uses a variety of special techniques, also to make it clear to the audience that this film is a far cry from the original dullness associated with Shakespeare play recreations. Firstly, the range of music; the booming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the thought which Baz Luhrmann wants to put into the audiences mind for their first impression of not so fair Verona; so after the news report is told, the camera whizzes into the screen behind the news reader which displays a blown up petrol station, burning away as chaos fills the air. The serenade of blasting classic opera music, which is played while the images of the shocking city are presented, makes the seriousness and dramatic quality. The rapid montage of imagery adds to the rush of adrenaline that is felt when you watch this scene. A police helicopter is shown hovering unsteadily in the air. Moreover, as if it is being shot from the helicopter, bird s eye view shots are taken with speed shots many long shots zooming into close ups as the panoramic view of the city is previewed. It is as if Verona is being shaken by the crime when the noisy helicopter makes the camera focus shaky. The fast editing which shows us police cars, people being chased and people being injured makes the upbeat anxiety more effective. Another aspect of the opening, which I found effective, is the voice over. Made to seem God like, it echoes the story in brief, in a somewhat worried and disappointed tone of voice. Luhrmann indicates the ongoing vendetta by showing the close up pictures of the families on Newspaper with flames flickering in front of the headlines, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Feminist Movements By Dorothy Sue Cobble, Linda Gordon,... Feminist movements have transcended generations while evolving as women s role within and perspective of society change. These movements ranged from women wanting to simply being viewed as equal to men in the eyes of employers to women who wanted to completely disassociate themselves from men. On top of covering a wide range of desires they crossed generational lines as well as race, class, professional, and ethnic lines. Some of these movements were integrated while others were exclusively for one group of women. There is no clear cut event or day when women began pushing for equality but it began around the beginning of the 20th century when women pushed for the right to vote which culminated with Congress passing the Nineteenth Amendment in 1919 giving women the right to vote. Feminism Unfinished by Dorothy Sue Cobble, Linda Gordon, and Astrid Henry picks up the history of feminist movements following the creation of the Nineteenth Amendment. The book highlights many of the different movements that have occurred from the 1920s until present day, it was published in 2014 so it discusses some of the latest movements. The authors use the term feminisms as opposed to feminism since they want to emphasize the fact that there were, are, and will continue to be many different approaches to improve the quality of life for women in the United States. Despite the fact that there were many different approaches to solving the issues or improving their situation it is all ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Sustainability And Discredit Arguments For Space Exploration I am writing this paper to claim that space exploration is a huge waste of resources and we should focus our efforts on the sustainability of the Earth. I plan to explore the benefits of sustainability and discredit arguments for space exploration. Sustainability is the more realistic and feasible choice. A very popular argument for space exploration is to protect our Earth that we have managed to almost destroy, by finding another planet to retreat to. Many people believe the only option is to spend billions of dollars, that we do not necessarily have, into space exploration. It is said that there are Earth like planets that would potentially be able to support life. People believe space exploration is necessary for long term survival. It is a popular concept that something drastic will happen to Earth, weather it be caused by man or natural disaster. Basic facts state that if we continue treating Earth the way we do, Earth will not be able to support human life and will be rendered uninhabitable. With the information that I and billions of other believe to be legitimate many people jump to space exploration as the only answer. A popular concept is terraforming. Terraforming is the process of transforming a hostile environment into one suitable for human life. Being that Mars is the most Earth like planet in our solar system, it is the best candidate for terraforming. It is believed that terraforming any planet would take centuries for just the initial steps, and much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Great Expectations Social Commentary Essay Title That s just what happens when you re rich and you don t have a job, you get crazy. This line, spoken by Zoey Murphy in Dear Evan Hansen, could not have fit the ideas stated in Great Expectations any better. One of the major ideas conveyed consistently throughout Great Expectations is of never being satisfied, and the constant desire for wealth and fame. Also indirectly relayed through the novel very often is Charles Dicken s social commentary. He looks down upon the desire for wealth and fame, and this is disguised through his descriptions of the middle class s goal of becoming high class, and high class mannerisms. This can also be connected to the 21st century. One of Dicken s main points on social commentary has to do with the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One great example of this is the way Mrs. Pocket handles her baby. Usually the nurses or her other daughter Jane take care of the baby, so when Mrs. Pocket takes care of the baby, it is humorous to the reader. When society first sees her handle the baby, Mrs. Pocket took it the other way, and got its head upon the table; which was announced to all resent by a prodigious concussion (Dickens 179). It is clear that Mrs. Pocket doesn t know how to care for her baby, and while laughable, this is also a very sad situation. It was her baby that she gave birth to, and she doesn t even know how to hold it! Dickens is clearly making fun of the higher class and how heavily they rely on hired help to take care of their children. This is seen again later in the chapter. At this point, she is helpless in her attempts of taking care of the baby. Dickens writes, Into Mrs. Pocket s lap, and gave it the nutcrackers to play with...forgetting all about the baby on her lap: who did most appalling things with the nutcrackers (Dickens 179 180). This is an obvious lack of parental nurturing in the Pocket home, and this is an effect of their wealth and heavy reliance on servants. Dickens makes another point against the upper class when he shows Pip s lack of control after receiving his sum. Dickens writes, We spent as much money as we could, and got as little for it as people could make up their minds to give us (Dickens 256). Pip is clearly in panic when he receives such a large sum of money. Due to this, he loses control and does what he has always wished to do: spend it all! He doesn t know anything else. As an effect of receiving so much money, Pip spends it impulsively on silly things, such as the gentlemen s society. In summary, Dickens poked fun at the upper class s mannerisms throughout the entire ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Newsom effectively convinces the audience of Miss Representation that how mainstream media contributes to the misrepresentation of women in influential positions by having limited portrayals of women through the use of interviews from influential people, several statistics, and appealing to emotional sense. • 10. The Problem Of Immigration And Immigration This paper will examine the problem of Immigration and Immigration Law. I will first discuss what Immigration Law is and how it works, then I will define the number one problem of immigration laws, illegal immigration and why it s so important to follow procedures. It will also address the consequences after violating the laws. Next the paper discusses three policy solutions to the problems of illegal immigration: Legalization of Immigrants, Strengthen Border Security, and Immigration Amnesty. The paper will first explain each policy solution. Then it will analyze the pros and cons, and potential strengths and weakness of each solution. Last this paper will offer some personal observations on the problem of immigration. Three government policy solutions to the problem of illegal immigration include the Legalization of Illegal Immigrants, the Secure Fence Act of 2006, and Amnesty. If these three government policies were truly implemented it will help to solve and cut back in illegal immigration activity in the United States. Section II Immigration law refers to the rules established by the federal government for determining who is allowed to enter the country, and for how long. It also governs the naturalization process for those who desire to become United States citizens. Finally, when foreign nationals enter without permission, overstay their visit, or otherwise lose their legal status, they become illegal immigrants, immigration law controls how detention and removal ... • 11. The Ones Who Walk Away From The Omelas By Ursula Le Guin A dream of ignorance The short story The ones who walk away from the Omelas by Ursula Le Guin does a great job of criticizing the flaws of a capitalist society. What this means is that she talks about how it has become a standard for someone to become happy at the expense of others. In order to demonstrate this she presents a society that guarantees eternal happiness at the expense of a single child who must suffer through it all. The characters are faced with two choices which would be to stay and accept the child s fate or to walk away and leave for the mountains. Both of these choices do not involve helping the child but rather abandoning it in both circumstances. This is a criticism of how people in reality typically treat those who are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Le Guin s exploitation of this in her writing gives us a clear indication of her intended audience. This once again justifies my theory as to why Omelas is based off of a dream she once had. What the dream did was remind of her that there are people out there suffering and being completely ignored. The fact that she contributed towards the continuation of such suffering ultimately inspired her to push for change in public awareness. An important method that Le Guin uses is to maintain respect by not acting angry to the general public. If she was calling out individuals disrespectfully then she herself would be subject to criticism as well. This is why she turns to writing due to past difficulties with public activism. While she did help influence a few people to help spread the word, she gained more public criticism as people found her too demanding(jstor.org). Therefore she switched to becoming an activist through writing literature. Switching through this method has helped gain widespread respect while further popularizing her cause. An interesting fact about this short and the poverty rate in the Unites States there seems to be a positive correlation in terms of reducing it. The Paradigm Shift in Consumption The Paradigm Shift in Consumption: The New Food Equation Consumer behaviors are constantly changing, as can be seen with the recent trends of obesity in the global north and hunger and malnutrition in the global south. Understanding global food systems is very important as it helps explain opportunities and well as problems that exist in the current global food system. In 1950 s and 60 s an industrial food formula, was created in order to take strides towards delivering ample, affordable, healthy and safe food in the global North (Roberts, 2013). This Industrial formula has not lived up to its standards however and has caused some disappointment. As new generations emerge, so do aspirations that food should taste real, provide fulfilling careers, support health, contribute to local communities, honor the environment and enhance global sustainability (Roberts, 2013: 11). This new trend has been termed the New Food Equation by Kevin Morgan and is a way to present the food problem as a challenge and urge people to solve the problem by making good food choices (Rogers, 2013). They are multiple pillars to implementing this new food movement, but food sovereignty and organic foods are the area of focus today. Members of La Via Campania coined the term food sovereignty. This was an organization formed in 1992 that represents some 200 million peasants, small farmers, agricultural workers and indigenous people from seventy different countries (Rogers, 2013: 88). Development Of Innovative Educational Methodologies According to Hall (2005, pp188), Insight into the educational, systemic and personal factors, which contribute to the culture of professions, can help guide the development of innovative educational methodologies to improve inter professional collaborative practice. IPE is integral in a healthcare environment, and serves to allow individuals within the healthcare profession to gain an appreciation for differing roles. Using the Kolb s Learning Cycle (1984), I will chronologically reflect upon my experiences of IPE, considering concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conceptualisation and active experimentation. After having exchanged pleasantries, individuals seemed coy and as theorised by Tuckman (1965), it was inherent that our team was in the forming stage of development within a small group. Polite and perfunctory conversation took place, which made it difficult to progress with the task in hand. Having worked as a member of teams in the past, it was pertinent to use what little time we had wisely and I felt it necessary to adopt the role of a team leader, akin to that theorised by the Hersey Blanchard Situational Leadership® model. Here, I styled my leadership in the manner of selling the task providing information and direction which, accompanied by communication from individuals in the team, would lead to the sale of the task and potential delegation of responsibilities and progression with it. However, there were barriers to progress in that; upon ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. Summary Of The Story Of Thorstein The Staff-Struck The story of Thorstein The Staff Struck is very short, but nevertheless, shares many traits and characteristics of longer sagas. This story shows the characteristic features of traditional family sagas and although action and violence are present, the narrator s main interests seem to lie in in the personality and expression of the characters in the story. The events told in this story seem to be deliberately told in a way to showcase the different characteristics, personalities, and choices of the main characters as well as highlights their position in this social dilemma. . The conflicts the characters encounter involve upholding respect from the community while preserving one s own dignity. Every character in Thorstein creates his or her own argument, each believing that he/she is just because they are basing their views off the accepted standards of society. This fun little tale tells the story of an old Viking s son named Thorstein who gets into some trouble with Bjorni, the community chieftain and wealthiest and most powerful farmer in the district, after he kills three of his farmhands. The contentious relationship between Thorstein and Thord was not abnormal, as both men were often in competition with one another through their horse businesses. Their respective personalities, however, could not be further apart. Thord was one of Bjorni s servants, and was known as an arrogant man, who constantly bragged about his prestigious position (as a servant). On the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Equal Employment Opportunity And Employee Rights Equal Employment Opportunity and Employee Rights Review Many laws have been put into place to protect employees and employers. The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) and the Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1972 (EEOA) are two such acts. These laws protect workers from termination for causes outlined in the acts. Drug testing has become popular for many businesses in today s society. It upsets many employees because they think that what they do in their own time does not affect what they do at work. Summary ADA prohibits discrimination against those with disabilities (DeCenzo, Robbins, Verhulst, 2013). Part of their definition of someone with a disability is one who has a physical or mental impairment that limits one or more major life activity (DeCenzo, Robbins, Verhulst, 2013). To be protected a person with a disability must be capable of performing the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations (DeCenzo, Robbins, Verhulst, 2013). The qualified person must meet the necessary requirements for the position (DeCenzo, Robbins, Verhulst, 2013). For example, an employee for Pizza Hut must have a food handler s card. Essential job functions need to be specific in the job descriptions (DeCenzo, Robbins, Verhulst, 2013). Reasonable accommodations include activities or modifications to the work environment that allow the qualified person to perform the work (DeCenzo, Robbins, Verhulst, 2013). • 20. The Revolution of 1688 The Glorious Revolution, also known as the Revolution of 1688, refers to the events of 1688 1689. These events eventually led to the overthrow of Catholic King James II and the ascension (of William III and Mary II) to the English throne. These events also produced a significant shift in the relationship between the monarchy and parliament. This paper will discuss the overthrow of King James II, the rebellion and revolt and the consequences as well as the global effects of the Revolution in order to explain the importance of this event in world history. James II, king of England from 1685 1688, inherited a very strong position when he came to power. When James II first came to the throne, he was not very well liked in the eyes of the people of Great Britain, simply because he was a Roman Catholic King to an overwhelmingly Protestant nation. Like most politicians, James made promises to protect the peoples personal beliefs. At the beginning of his reign, James had promised to respect his subject s rights and liberties and protect the Protestant establishment in the church. Despite these promises, James decided to advance the Catholic tenets over the protestants. He did this by issuing dispensations to Catholics including the Test Act of 1673, promoting the public celebration of mass, forcing the universities to admit Catholics, issued a Declaration of Indulgences and also engaged a campaign to pack Parliament so that he would be able to establish Catholic tolerance by ... It has been said that technology will preserve the human race, and we will survive longer in the future due to technology breakthroughs. However, many claim that technology is destroying our minds and causing us to remain distracted throughout daily life activities. Recently, teachers and professors have struggled with their students with being distracted by current technological devices during lectures. Teachers should use technology in the classroom because it improves student s achievements, keeps student s involved, and promotes higher thinking. For example, US News journalist Ryan Lytle wrote an article stating an Advanced Placement Calculus teacher named Stacey Roshan, an instructor at Bullis; a private school for students in grades three through twelve in Potomac, Maryland. According to Lytle, the students in her class faced the problem of trying to keep her engaged as she walked them through the difficult mathematics curriculum. During her previous three years at the school, Roshan notes, students were routinely stupefied by the traditional classroom lecture and often left class with more questions than answers (Lytle). • 23. How Can Organizations Shape And Manage Relationship Inter... IT BASED VALUE CO CREATION IN HUB SPOKE DYADS IT based value co creation research is concerned with inter organizational arrangements and processes in which two or more organizations leverage IT to form mutually beneficial partnerships or alliances (Grover et al. 2012). In such relationships, the partnering organizations seek to generate value that is greater than the value they could create independently by relying upon market mechanisms alone (Dyer et al. 1998). Based on these premises, IT based value co creation research seeks to understand and explain how IT can help organizations shape and manage relationship inter dependencies and associated exchanges (e.g., information flows) to yield mutual benefits. As such, Kohli et al. (2008, p. 28) suggest co creation represents the idea that (a) IT value is increasingly being created and realized through actions of multiple parties, (b) value emanates from robust collaborative relationships among firms, and (c) structures and incentives for parties to partake in and equitably share emergent value are necessary to sustain co creation. Using IT enabled organizational relationships as the unit of analysis, recent studies have empirically examined how such relationships can yield mutual benefits, especially in the business to business (B2B) context. Examples include IT based value co creation in supply chain relationships (Cederlund et al. 2007; Klein et al. 2009; Rai et al. 2012), between platform producers and developers ... • 27. William Damon The Death Of Honesty Summary The essay The Death of Honesty by William Damon explores how honesty is becoming unexpected and infrequently used in society today. Written in a general style without difficult or complicated words it is obvious the author intends for his point to be easily understood by his readers. Using a convincing argument, the virtue of honesty is approached in an objective manner. Published by the Hoover Institute, Damon s topic of honesty fits well into this publication because the institute fosters development of freedom. Accordingly Damon s paper outlines the virtue of honesty as necessary for civilized and democratic society. By placing his counter argument at the beginning of the essay, he craftily refutes the argument and provides his views. Using an inductive thesis at the end of his essay works well to explain Damon s position as he appears to maintain a diplomatic view. The cause and effect rationale is convincing. Words such as dishonesty, lying, and cheating are used interchangeably, while Damon writes about dishonesty more than he writes on honesty. Using emotions and ethical dilemmas he details justifications for lying. Descriptive words are used to highlight his opinion of honesty. Damon defines honesty as a virtue while giving blame to those he feels responsible for its decline. Three topic paragraphs, one sentence long are scattered throughout the essay providing transition from introduction, to summarizing, and closing parts of his paper. They serve to give emphasis to the main points, first, teaching honesty, second, how this teaching is failing, and thirdly, how civilization requires honesty. Overall the sentences are sometimes complex providing variety, and allowing flow that keeps the reading from becoming monotonous. Paragraph lengths are short, consisting of the one sentence paragraphs to relatively few sentences, often just four, that appear undeveloped, but the complexity of the sentences allow the thoughts that are expressed to be complete. While explaining that lying helps in less than ideal situations, Damon details how untruths can reassure provide compassion, [and] diplomacy . Charles Guignon examines the film s violent and sexual factors as well as how they pose a meaningful appeal to violence, primarily, in the young men of our society. Moreover, the film stirs up a fascination with violence that many of us may feel, an attraction to inflicting pain and experiencing pain ourselves (35). Through concepts of absent fathers, consumerism and an aimless being, Fight Club platforms a provocative view on how men in modern society have lost their identity through emasculation and the extremely disturbing activities they combat in order to find it again. Fight Club asserts the path to finding one s meaning is not simple and, in turn, develops into a despairing and inconclusive struggle. The excessive consumerism in the film signifies a sign of emotional emptiness. William the Holy Conqueror Even though William the Conqueror descended from a line of Vikings who had lived in France for over 200 years, William had more of an impact on the English language than the majority of influential English born people of the time. The French speaking Normans brought a whole new vocabulary to England, whose language was closely related to German. (Barlow 8). He even introduced the Norman legacy of building castles, including the Tower of London. Although he is most well known for the Norman invasion of 1066 that overthrew the Anglo Saxon reign which had lasted for over six centuries, William was a very religious man. He was moral and righteous by the standards of the time, and devoted much of his time to the Norman church. William was born in 1028 and was the only son of Duke Robert I of Normandy who later died on a voyage to Jerusalem. After his father s death in 1035, he was knighted at the age of fifteen and the Norman magnates accepted William as duke even though he was an illegitimate child; he was actually known as William the Bastard. This caused William serious problems later in life and he had to overcome several massive obstacles one of which was surviving numerous rebellions; which his mother somehow got him through.
